Macbook Pro (4gb DDR3, i5) - keeps crashing black screen

and freezing.. what can I do? I'm not v. tech savvy, so any help pls, break it down very simply.. it's driving me nuts.
Spent £2k on this machine a couple of years ago and now it's playing up.

TS4088 MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012): Intermittent black screen

My new MacBook Pro is running Mountain Lion and the screen suddenly goes black while I am working. It seems that the machine is running, but the screen just goes black and does not show the login box or anything else.
In order to get back to the login, I either have to restart it, or close the machine and open it again.
This seems to be the same problem reported for the MacBook Pro 2010-2011.

I too have started having this problem. I am running OSX 10.9.4. Has anyone gotten any answers to why this may be happening? This issue just recently started. I can't say it was caused by any recent update.

You can have Apple replace the logic board, but it will be at your expense. The free replacement program has ended.

Got a MacBook Pro 13' (2011) that keeps crashing occasionally

I purchased this MacBook Pro early at 2011 and fully upgraded it including extended RAM.
The Mac works great most of the time but occasionaly it crashes with no apparent reason.
I have no idea if this is a software problem or a hardware malfunction or both.
Laptop specifications:
Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 8 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
Running OS X Lion 10.7.5.

Macbook Pro Intel Core i5 keeps crashing

My Macbook Pro has been slow lately and it crashes at least twice everyday and I have to force it to shutdown. When it crashes, the screen freezes and only the mouse moves. The clock is not moving and same with the power percentage. I usually have Spotify and Chrome running. Chrome will pop up a message saying that scripts is not responding even though it was just Facebook. What can I do?

My Mac will freeze and only the mouse will move. The clock at the top of the bar will not move and same with the power percentage. I can some how click on the application screen but it will take a long time to move. Bascially everything is very slow and it barely moves.

My instant watch for netflixs is not working on my macbook pro. I just shows a black screen. I know that the problem is not Silverlight, so what other type of software or upgrades am I missing?

Go figure both Apple support and Netflixs support "have never seen a problem quite like mine" the same day my free trial has ended. And no the, problem is not with my Netflixs account because they charged my debit card just fine. I'm trying to play instant movies on my netflixs account and every time I click on a movie or show it just shows up a black screen with no play controls. According to Netflixs I'm either missing a peice of software or I need to uninstall and reinstall a program or plug-in or something. At first they thought it was Microsoft Silverlight, but I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling that several times and nothing has changed, plus since I had no play controls as well the problem is definetly not Silverlight. So I was wondering what other types of software or plug-ins are needed to play Netflixs movies or if anyones else has had the same issue and knew how to fix it. And I know that it is a problem with my Macbook Pro, because my netflixs accout still works on my sister's computers. I've tried restarting my computer, restarting Firefox, signing out and back in on Netflixs, praying to God, clearing my cookies and chache, saying nice things to my laptop, yelling at my laptop, and pretty much everything under the sun. Nothing I do is fixing it. Please someone help me figure this out.

I solved this problem tonight. I have a MacBook Pro with 10.5.8. I know, it's old. But I love my Netflix and I recently noticed that Firefox plays Netflix much better. Then I suddenly got this message that I needed to download the latest Silverlight - it only takes 30 seconds! - WRONG. However, after much searching, I finally did the steps in order and it worked.
This was after repeatedly downloading Silverlight from the Netflix site without success. So here's what I did:
1. Went to http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx
2. Followed the directions. I felt like such an idiot for not doing it right before.
3. Go to your hard drive and search for "Silverlight" to locate ANY existing Silverlight files: .dmg, etc.
[also check your Libary/ Internet Plug-ins, but the above search is faster]
4. Drag it all to the trash and empty it.
5. Go back to the Get Silverlight page and click on the Install on that page, not the Netflix site.
6. Note the steps for Safari or Mozilla Firefox - I wanted Firefox, so I follwed those instructions.
7. Once it's installed, close all the browsers and Restart that bad boy. Right away.
8. Open a browser, go to Netflix and proceed to joyfully rot your brain with Netflix content. Yay!

On a MacBook Pro Mid-2009, i got a black screen.

I use to run Windows XP for gaming. Recently, my logic board has been replaced. Now, i am unable to boot into my Windows partition : i am getting a black screen.
I deleted it with BootCamp assistant and created a new one.
Now, when i insert the windows install dvd, after reboot still stuck on black screen. I tried with XP install dvd and a brand new windows 7 install DVD.

Try smc and pram resets:
SMC
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

Macbook pro - was doing my work and black screen appeared, shut down, and won't turn back on

i was doing my work, plugged a usb in the port, and then my screen went black and turned itself off.
i used my power plug on a different mac and it still worked, but when i plugged it into my macbook pro the green like flashes once and then dissappears.
the macbook will not turn on at all.

I had same problem.
After installing, respectively Mountain Lion and Lion, the same error came again in both instalations. I tryed to replace the hard disk, and installed again, but the same error came up.
BUT now have two days running with Windows 8 on it and it run perfectly. I installed from boot camp and has not opened OX again.
So it is quite obvious that Apple has fixed it well enough. Windows cant haddel hardware issue better.

MacBook Pro 13" (2010) on Win 7x64- Black screen coming out of hibernation

I've got a brand new MacBook Pro 13" that I've installed Windows 7 (a legitimate copy) on using Bootcamp 3.1, and I use that as my primary OS. However, I'm having an extremely annoying issue where if the laptop is returning from a hibernation state, the screen will stay black for a good 30 seconds to a minute (with no blinking white cursor) before the Windows logo even appears. After searching around on the forums I've yet to see any solutions to this problem. Anyone have any tips?

MacBook Pro won't boot - stays on black screen and beeps every few seconds

My MacBook Pro has been having issues - when powered on wont boot past the white screen and more recently will just stay on black screen and beeps every 5 seconds. I had someone look at it and it seems apparently the motherboard is the problem
and either needs fixing or replacing. As I am traveling in Nicaragua the closest apple store is in Managua (capital). Would I be able to get the motherboard looked at and replaced if need be at this apple store? Also, does anyone know the approximate price for the motherboard to be replaced? Up until a few days ago the laptop was still turning on and working every now and then but now stays on black screen and beeps.

First, replace the memory modules. You can buy more memory at OWC or Crucial. It can also be replace by a reseller.
If it doesn't work, the RAM slots are damaged, so your logic board has to be replaced. It costs more than a half of the price of your MacBook

MacBook Pro seems to boot up, but black screen

I have a MacBook Pro from around Oct 2006, intel processor, uses 2x512 MB PC2-5300 RAM.
I changed the RAM to a 2x1 GB kit, but found that one of the new RAM modules was dead on arrival. I confirmed this was the case by using the new RAM in a different machine, and sure enough one of the modules just arrived was dead. This is no problem, I can send it back.
However ...
Now I have put back my old 2x512 MB RAM configuration, which was previously working fine. And my MacBook Pro will boot, no flashing lights indicating an error, and no beeps indicating an error. But the screen is blank. I have checked to make sure the RAM modules are seated correctly (they are) - I also tried switching the RAM modules in the slots just in case there is any funk with that.
I further tried the CRTL + option + P + R to reset the PRAM of the motherboard, that doesn't seem to work.
I'm starting to feel the graphics adapter is dead, since there is no output at all onto the screen.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Look at the black screen after booting under a strong light, either from the front, or through the Apple logo on the top. Do you see faint images for your normal desktop pattern?

And you can try to seek out an external display and see if you get any image.

My old Macbook Pro will no longer turn on (black screen)....

..... but I finnally got an external harddrive to transfer my music and photos to my new Macbook Pro yesterday. Great timing. Is there a way to transfer files to the external harddrive even though my computer wont start?

here's what you can do,
you can take out the hard drive in your old mb and put it in your external enclosure.
once that's done, you can transfer all the files you need from your old hard drive.
