Macbook PRO 5.1 temperature

Hi everybody,
i'm converting an avi file into DVD format, obviusly both core temp of my core 2 duo work almost 100% and temperatures are around 74°, but i'm not able to hear any fan noise. When does they will start to speed up and cool down the processor? Is there a program that can force the fan rpm?

SMC Fan Control just allows you to set a higher minimal speed, the normal hardware/OS X system of fan adjustment is still at work.
The normal OS X/hardware system is when the CPU gets hot, the fans increase speed to keep the temperture down. It all depends upon what the CPU is doing and the ambient room temperture being able to remove the heat from the CPU's.
Increasing the fans speed a tiny bit, say a extra 1000 RPM's from 2000 RPM and leaving it that way, keeps the CPU cooler all the time, so when it does start working, it doesn't get as hot as quickly because it's working from a lower starting temperture.
If your gaming or using the CPU heavy, well it's going to get hot regardless and OSX is going to kick in and race the fans to 4000+ if it needs too. But most times people don't place great demand on the CPU's, they want to just be able to lower the temperture a bit so it's more comfortable and that's what SMCFanControl can do.
You shouldn't be having the fans on 4,000 RPM all the time, that's excessive and yes, could wear them out faster. However a fan is less expensive to replace than a logicboard.
You might want to run a Hardware Test, one of your fans might have stopped working and that results in a hot machine. You can replace the fan yourself, but if it's under warranty/AppleCare you should have them do it.

MacBook pro 1.86GHz Temperature Reading

I'm just curious on what you all think because to be honest after reading all the stories about temperature of the MacBook Pro I decided to get the kernel hack for reading the temperature sensor.
With the MagSafe plugged in, brightness turned to full and the Better Performance mode selected I used it for some general web browsing and Instant Messaging. Also did some basic video editing with video recorded on the iSight. Left all this running for about 10 minutes and took a temperature reading.
The reading came out as shown here:
60 Celsius or 140 Fahrenheit.
After leaving on same settings but idle and not doing anything I took another temperature read out and discovered it only dropped to 59 Celsius.
Are those temperatures within reason?
The area above the F keys are hot to touch and bordering on untoucheable. Likewise for the area on the underneat of the laptop.
Everywhere else on the chassis seems to be moderately warm.
What are all your thoughts on the above temperature read outs?

The heaviest load would have been video editing. Under such a load 60 C is reasonable. The subjective temperatures you felt on the metal strip behind the function keys and on the case bottom are typical.
59 C after an period of inactivity following video editing is a bit high but doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. But if you start with the computer at ambient room temperature, do nothing or only very light work and the CPU stabilizes at 59 C that's somewhat high unless your ambient temperature is rather high. Sleep your computer for a time until it cools down, then resume it and monitor the CPU temps while at idle or low load for a good while.
I use an aluminum tilt stand when my MBP is on my desk, or will be in my lap for an extended period of use.
Plugged in, my light-duty (writing and Web surfing) temperatures typically range from the mid 40s to low 50s C. My keyboard and trackpad are not warm and the left palm rest area is at or about body temperature. So the computer remains comfortable to use. The CPU temperatures for comparable activity drop by several degrees. When I'm doing web surfing I'm usually selecting material for download, which results in more activity than just web surfing alone.
Even when I'm doing heavier duty work that frequently pegs the CPUs my computer remains comfortable to use. So I don't have a heat problem.

MacBook Pro Retina 15" Temperature

Hi there,
I'm currently using Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro, and using CPUID Hardware Monitor (which I can only assume is accurate) I've noticed the temperatutre of my cores sits at 55 - 65 degrees celsius when idle, but after less than a minute of running GTA IV through Steam (as a test) the hottest core gets to a whopping 105 degrees celsiuis (the others are at 103 or 104). And yes, the fans are engaging at full bore pretty quickly, and then I notice the cores start to run at 75 - 80 degrees celsius which seems much more reasonable.
The Mac itself is about six months old, and I understand from reading through other topics that the heat tolerance of these Macs is somewhat higher than that of a regular laptop, however I just wanted to ensure that this was normal because I can't really find much information on their temperature tendencies (albeit through my brief google search).

It is normal. What is not normal is running games that use the CPU and GPU to such an extent that the temps near critical shutdown. Modern laptops are really not game machines. They are built for small size, minimum weight, and little interior space. This means that cooling capabilities are limited.
If you want to play those types of games, then use a desktop computer with a good cooling system.

Macbook Pro 13" 2012: Temperature?

Hey guys,
So I recently purchased my 2012 Macbook Pro 13" and am loving it. The specs run:
- 2.9ghz
- 8 gb ram
- 750 HDD
- Intel Graphics 4000
My only problem is that when I play World of Warcraft/Diablo 3 the computer heats up pretty quick. During play it hits about 94C and the fans are running at about 5700rpm. I was on the phone with an Apple specialist and he said he plays WoW on his MBP and it tends to get pretty hot. But, I wanted to get some feedback from the community. Is this temperature dangerous to my computer or is it regular when running games and am I just acting stupid?
P.S: I'm not worried about graphics. I ran WoW fine with my intel graphics 3000, 2.7ghz i7, 256SSD computer.

macs run hot (especially when playing games or watching videos) as the Apple rep said. Your mac will shut down in the event it gets so hot to the point where it may cause damage.

Macbook Pro Retina Hight temperature

Hi Guys,
A few months ago I bought a Macbook Pro from you with 16GB of Retina
256GB SSD and HD.
I installed on my MACBOOK PRO software ISTAT which measures the temperature of
I was really scared and even as much as it heats. Already
I reached the mark of 92 degrees celcius here. Almost temperature a water to boil. He even miss the keyboard at times that

I downloaded and installed the system and smcFanControl improved somewhat, but
the temperature gets too easy at 80 or 85 degrees.
Have you googled including ventilated bases for notebooks to see if it improves
this situation.
Sometimes even here in my office where I have air conditioning temperature
reaches 79 degrees easily.
I have worked with the screen brightness below half, because I noticed that
also influences the temperature increase.
If'll see some video on the web, the temperature goes up there.
Anyway, I paid this notebook and dear of you who want instructions
are the experts to solve my problem.

It's on the Sensors menu of iStat...... since posting that I've seen the cpu tempreture get up to 90 but the fans don't seem to automatically speed up, I ended up manually putting them to maximum which cooled it right down very quickly

2012 Macbook Pro Retina High Temperatures

I recently started noticing my 2012 Macbook Pro Retina was feeling warm to the touch on my legs. I installed temperature gauge and was startled by the temperatures I saw.
Idling the CPU is around 40-45 C but spikes easily to 70-80 with any activity. As an example when Intellij compiles my java code my CPU will jump to 80C
The SSD temperatures is constantly at 65C.
I tried reseting the NVRAM with the instructions from Apple website. It didn't make any differences.
What is even more concerning is the fan speed does not change! It stays right around 2000 RPM no matter what the temperature is.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with their 2012 Retina? I recently had it at the Apple Store for repair to replace my screen, ghosting issues.

The actual case temperature is much lower. Macbook pro w/ retina Temperature normal or not?

I got a brand new Macbook pro with retina about 4 days ago with the following specs: 13 inch 16GB ram i7 (the best upgraded 13 inch laptop). I noticed that the top right of my keyboard (above the power button) is getting slightly warm. The temperature using temperature gauge displays 45 degrees (for CPU) when the laptop is just turned on. The only app I downloaded so far is Skype, which is not even logged in.
The temperature goes up to 50-55 while browsing the internet (Safari). Right now (while I'm writing this), it is 48 degrees with 1289 RPM.
I wouldn't say the laptop is hot... I would say it is warm. However, when playing some games, it does go up to 65 to 70 (sometimes even 75), and the surface does get hot. The laptop is on a table, I don't use it on my bed or pillow or anything.
Could someone who have the same laptop maybe download the app and check what their temperatures are like? And whether or not this is a big issue.

I'd strongly recommend to go with the refurb model because of the dedicated graphics card. You are saving $40, getting dedicated graphics card, and a 0.4 ghz boost.
Now the 0.4 ghz isn't necessarily the biggest factor here, but the GT 650m sure is.

MacBook Pro Retina Core Temperature

Hi,
I've just bought the new high end Haswell 15" Macbook Pro Retina and have been installing all my stuff.
I noticed that it was feeling very hot so took a look at iStat which showed the CPU at 12% yet all the cores at 60-80 degrees.
Is this normal? Seems very hot to me considering I wasn't really straining the system.

What is a safe temperature for my Macbook Pro to be at before I should worry?

No, it's probably not anything to worry about. If the computer becomes dangerously hot it shuts down automatically. Depending upon a specific model, CPU, what is loaded at the time the temperatures can range between 30º and 90º C. Playing certain games or performing processor intensive activities can drive up the operating temperatures. Keep the computer well ventilated, don't use it in a room where the air temp is about 85º F without very good external cooling, don't use it for long periods at very hight temperatures.

Temperatures are normal, so your MacBook Pro is working correctly. Fans will turn on automatically when temperature is high, so don't worry about that. If you see that fans don't turn on, reply back because it would be a hardware problem

Macbook pro 2011 heating issue

I have the 2011 Macbook pro. The temperature has always been a problem. If im running 1 program like safari it will normally be around 95 - 105 degrees. If i have a few apps open it goes up to about 150.
For some reason over the past few days wether i have an app open or not the temp sky rockets to 190 - 200. I have no idea what could be wrong. Maybe one of my fans have broken and 1 cant keep the computer cool by itself. If theyre are even 2 fans i have no clue.

Macbook Pro Heat Issues

I got my Macbook Pro a few months ago and ever since then the CPU has been getting very hot very quickly, When I loaded up Runescape for the first time it was only using 33% CPU and it was 83 degrees Celcuis. Does anyone think I should get Apple to check out my Macbook Pro?

1. Download the free SMC fan control application, which allows you to vary the fan and temperature of your laptop.
2. Keep your laptop as cool as possible. Okay, it already looks pretty cool, but I'd avoid computing on your lap (which can double the heat of your MacBook), and be aware of temperature-sensitve activities like burning disks, playing Flash movies, and putting the laptop on surfaces that absorb heat. Your laptop should work fine doing all this, but high temperatures aren't your machine's friend.
3. Passive heat devices like Little Feet allow better airflow under your MBP.
In other words...don't worry, but be aware.

Macbook Pro CPU Core's temperature measurments

I have a late 2011 15-inch Macbook Pro OS X 10.8.4 with BootCamp installed.
In OS X environment, the CPU core temperatures are around 40 - 44C, while in idle or with a minimum Safari browsing the net.
When in Bootcamp with Windows 7 Professional, in the similar operating/application condition, but the my Macbook's CPU Core Temperatures are always about 52 - 55C (10 degrees higher than in OS X).
While doing heavy stuffs such as Virus Scan, Time Machine, Data Backup, Video Editing etc ... on both environments the CPU core temperatures could go up to upper 80's degree C.
Is it normal ? if so, is there any explanation for 10 degrees warmer while in BootCamp/Windows ?

Poor battery life and high temperatures on MacBook Pro Retina 15"

I'm having never-ending problems with poor battery life and high temperatures on a MacBook Pro Retina 15"
I took it in for service and they told me it needed a new logic board and replaced it. When I asked why they were vague about the reasons, they said "it just needed one, it failed some test". I now have the computer back and it runs the same way it always did. I bought this laptop because it was supposedly capable of high end video editing in 1080P (or so Apple's website claims) and also photo editing.

However, when I'm just browsing the web and emailing it runs quite warm and battery life is quite poor. Sometimes doing those same activities I would say it gets so warm it's almost uncomfortable to have on your lap and the fans are running fast enough to become noticably noisy. I'm also driving only one screen at and a time and I heard that the MacBook Pro can supposedly do three screens.
If actually try to do something like video editing with final cut pro the laptop gets really hot, the fans are on full blast and battery life drops to only an hour or two. I think when I rendered just a 3 or 4 minute clip once I got less than hour of battery life. I will have to time again.
Anyway most people (including the sales guys) are telling me no way this is not normal. When I play with demos in the store browsing the web they are not getting warm or hot to the touch. My friend's 2013 MacBook Air is also NOT getting warm to the touch doing the same activities.
I installed iStat Pro so I could check the temperature and fan speeds. I'm seeing temperatures of 70+ on the GPU, 85+ on the GPU diode and 65+ on the CPU heatsink along with elvated fan speeds above 5K which becomes noticeably noisy. I understand that might be normal for the most processor intensive tasks but it really doesn't seem right for just light web browsing and e-mailing. (I also may have viber and skype open but that shouldn't matter). CPU usage is usually running between 2-10% as this is all happening to.
Furthermore, straight from the specs:
Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching
I am assume "GPU" and "GPU diode" are temp measurements on the discrenete NVIDIA video card, especially since MacBook Airs from the same and newer generatio do not have this reading. Since Apple Claims the graphics "automatically switches" it seems all the harder to believe the GPU is reaching 85+ when in theory it shouldn't even be activated. I mean, shouldn't the INtel HD Graphics 4000 be capable of simple web browsing and e-mailing? Especially with only one screen activated (be it it the internal or an external)?
What should I do here? When I asked the repair guys "OK well what is the normal operating temp range for the various sensors" they said "Sorry Apple doesn't provide that info".

Just web browsing and basically doing nothing I'm hear a lot of aduible fans, I'm getting 85C+ on GPU diode, 65+ on cpu heatsink. I since installed anohter program that shows me not just the CPU heatsink but the cores and the cores are at 90C+.
Seems like a lot of heat for doing nothing. Not only that but I have these problems with no external monitor while on battery power too.
I don't know what to do. They already replaced the logic board. Others seem to get advertised battery life out of Apple products and not have products that get **** near hot enough to burn you while just web browsing or watching a movie let alone advertised tasks like Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.

MacBook Pro (mid 2012) reaches quite high temperatures. Is this normal?

I'm currently using a mid 2012 Macbook Pro with the 15" high resolution screen add-on (it's the model that was released alongside the new retina versions). The processor is a 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7.
I've seen a lot of claims about MacBooks running at high temperatures, but I've hardly seen numbers as high as mine. I've had my MacBook reach 100 °C (212 °F) up to 105 °C (221 °F) in some situations (such as when compiling software). I've seen 105 °C being reported as a critical temperature at which the system might decide to shut down to protect itself, so I'm worried that this might be an unnatural temperature and that it might be affecting the lifespan of my PC.
I've also experienced cases where, while being on charge but idle (or running non-intensive tasks such as text editing or watching non-HD videos), the PC would at some point begin spinning the fans to very high speeds and reaching temperatures between 85 °C (185 °F) and 95 °C (203 °F). The aluminum body of the computer gets very hot (especially near the hinge where the screen is attached) and in some cases my fingers can feel the unconfortable temperature even when just typing on the keys. I should note that this is happening during the summer, during which the temperatures outside float around 32 °C (89 °F), but I'm still worried it could keep happening later on during the year.
My warranty is expiring in a month so I'm wondering whether I should get my pc checked before it's over.
What do you think about these temperatures? Is there anything I should worry about? Should I contact Apple?

You can ship your MBP for examination and servicing by contacting Apple, but you will be without the MBP for a period of time. First determine you warranty status:
