MacBook Pro 6,2 Existing scanners do not show up in System Preferences

I have a MacBook Pro 6,2 and I just installed OS X Yosemite. While attached to my home network (wired), neither of my scanners show up when I try to add them in System Preferences. Also, they do not show up in the Hardware list in a System Information report. One is an Epson V600 and the other is an HP ScanJet 5590. Both of them work just fine on my MacPro 4,1 running OS X 10.8.5, although, oddly, the HP doesn't seem to have a scanner queue even though it works just as it should (scanning with Acrobat Pro).
Why are these devices absent from the "add printer or scanner" list and how do I force my MacBook Pro to see them?

Welcome to the forum.
How did you name your comps and your AE project(s)?  If you used numbers at the beginning or the end, that may be interfering with AE's Increment and Save feature.  Try renaming your comps and projects without using numbers.

Are these osx's available for my machine? Can I buy them.
    Yes.

I don't know why I don't have one of them since I get any updates available?
Software updates don't upgrade your current operating system to a new one, you have to purchase a newer operting system if you want one.
If you want iCloud, first you have to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.6 (10.6.8 preferred), then you can download Lion from the app store.
Snow Leopard requirements:  $29 USD from Apple : http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Lion general requirements: $29 USD app store.
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space

  • Why does Windows 7 not show up in System Preference's "Startup Disk"

Why does Windows 7, installed via Boot Camp, show up when you hold down the option key when booting but the drive does not show up in System Preferences under the Startup Disk icon.
As an aside Windows 7 runs perfectly on my MacBook.
    - Mike

Now I found I'm not alone. My situation is similar but not exactly the same.
I recently switched from the white MacBook to latest mac mini, tried installing XP Pro not successful for some reasons then tried Win7 (build 7000). On my old macbook this worked perfectly.
Got win7 updated and picked win7 as startup disk in windows, used that for few days without going back to leopard. On just one occasion I booted with 'alt' key pressed (using a PC keyboard) I have choices of drives so I thought everything was fine. As soon as I booted into leopard I found no win7 partition in system>preference>startup disk, OMG I couldn't boot back to win7 since then. From that point onwards the 'alt' key didn't work for me. Every time only leopard can be booted.
    What can I do now?
Why it was OK in macbook but didn't work on mini? Is it worth investing on a mac external keyboard just to get the 'option' key?

  • Why does my macbook pro, less than a year old, not show airplay

My new apple tv does not work with my new macbook pro.  No silly box/triangle icon shows up on the operating system.  I cannot use airplay.  No help anywhere.  No documentation.  No diagnostics.  Just fail. Fail. FAIL.  Now my Apple TV will not upgrade...it tries and FAILS.

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.

  • My Macbook Pro Retina's serial number does not show up on Apple's warranty check page?

My Macbook Pro which I bought around 2 weeks ago doesn't show up in Apple's warranty check website it just says:
"We're sorry, the number you have provided cannot be found in our records. Please verify the number and try again, or contact us.'"
Currently I do not have any problem with the machine. But I always like to check the warranty in any product when I buy it and it got my attention what is said. An important detail is that I bought it from an Apple Authorized Reseller. I have try also registering from webpage to register my devices and this showed up: We're sorry, but this serial number is either invalid or it is for Apple software or accessories. If you are trying to register Apple hardware other than an accessory, please check your information and try again.

Firstly, is your Macbook Pro a new one.   The apple registration site is now closed and the details are usually sent to Apple via the sales slip or seller.   Have you checked to see if the serial number on the machine itself matches that number you provided to Apple?
At this busy busy time of the year you should also expect delays but in the event the situation continues you will need to get on to Apple Support.   Can't tell where your location is so go via ...
Contact Apple for support and service
find your national flag and proceed from there.

  • I have a macbook pro from ~2011. the arrangement tab normally shown in display system preferences no longer appears. how can i restore it to the menu?

looking to connect macbook to television. used to connect easily until i presented PPT for class. now "arrangement" tab no longer displayed, and macbook display does not show on TV

Use Finder and search for 'Microsoft Word'.  If it shows up, launch it from Finder and when it appears in Dock, right click the icon and select Options > Keep in dock.
If finder does not find Word it has somehow been deleted.

  • Check bubble not showing up in system preferences and safari

Ever since I have upgraded to Snow Leopard on my new macbook pro I cannot see the check bubble that should be on some websites and in finder such as this example in system preferences:
    http://img8.imageshack.us/i/screenshot20091109at554.png/
there should be two bubbles next to each power option, the bubbles look like this:

When I use firefox everything is fine, but is there a way to get it to work throughout my computer?, thanks.

I don't know what you think is missing. The screen shot you posted looks fine except for the buttons on the toolbar. If you still think that there is something missing, then I would guess it has to do with whatever you used to change the buttons in the toolbar.
Edit: I don't have the options at the top; is that where you should see something? Regardless, I go back to blaming whatever you've loaded that is affecting the buttons.

  • Apogee Duet Not Showing up in System Preferences, device is getting power.

I've got a newer Mac Book Pro with only the Firewire 800 port. I've hooked up my Apogee duet through an 800/400 Firewire cable. The Duet has power but is not showing up as an audio interface option in my system preferences. I've downloaded the latest software from Apogee and installed it, then restarted but nothing's working right now. I'd greatly appreciate and help or suggestions.
    Thanks

I have the same MBP. All new. Have just received notice rom Apogee that my machine lacked an audio driver.
On their recommendation I updated the OS to 10.6.2. and vioila!

  • I just bought a trackpad and the Icon does not show up in system preferences

I just bought a magic trackpad and went to install it on my computer.  When I go into system preferences it does not have the trackpad icon to select.  My computer is a IMac 9,1 Intel Core 2 Duo

Support started for the Magic Trackpad in Snow Leopard 10.6.4.   If you're still on Leopard as your profile indicates, it's to old to use the trackpad.

  • ICloud Not Showing Up In System Preferences... Is it cause I'm not running OS Lion?

I am not provided the iCloud option in my System Preferences.
Is this because I'm not running OS Lion?
    Or...?

Exactly so. 10.7.2 is required for Lion. Snow Leopard cannot connect to it; you can enter the mail server settings manually in Mail and there is an unsupported hack which allows you to sync calendars and which may or may not be reliable: and of course you can access your data online at icloud.com, but not sync it to your Mac.

  • Icloud is not showing up in system preferences on my imac

I am working on OSX 10.68 and I have just purchased icloud. For some reason, it isn't showing up in my system preferences. Anyone?

iCloud is not supported using 10.6.8, you must upgrade your version of OSX to (minimum of 10.7.2), upgrading to the current version (if your Mac will support it) is preferable (10.8.3)
iCloud is a free service, how did you manage to pay for it?

  • Ort Express- my network suddenly not showing up. System preferences, advanced/network shows network. Opened Airport Utility options grayed out except configure other but no luck. No set up assistant option to reenter.  Not sure where to go from here?.

    Airport Express.
My network suddenly not showing up.  Openend system preferences/Network & my network is there. When I open Airport Utility, most option are grayed out except "configure other" with no change.  Utility does not provide option for setup assistant where I could just start over.  So no wifi without network set up and can't use ethernet/router to troubleshoot.  I am stuck any assistance helpful.

So I went back to the PC after my original post, and somehow I was able to connect to the AirPort wireless network in the Windows Wireless Network List. Once I did this, it showed up in the AirPort Utility, and I was able to access the internet. I have no idea what fixed the problem, but maybe it was simply a matter of waiting a few minutes before connecting to the network?

  • I am trying to set up icoud on my macbook pro. But, Icloud is not shown on my System Preferences?

    Hi,
icloud does not show in my System Preferences on my macbook. I am rying to set it up. Where else should I be looking?

What OS are you running? You need to have 10.7 Lion for the basic iCloud or 10.8 Mountain Lion for the full iCloud. While 10.7.5 will allow you to access iCloud you will be limited unless you can upgrade to 10.8 Mountain Lion.
    This is from Apple Support:
    Minimum operating system requirements
You may also use iCloud with the following operating system versions:
    Mac
OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later*
    * Note: Although you can use OS X Lion as noted above, you will not
be able to take advantage of some iCloud features, such as Shared Photo Streams, iCloud Tabs, Find My iPhone Lost Mode, Documents in the Cloud for iWork, and Find My Friends location-based alerts.

  • Does a usb cab to 60 Watt L-Tip Power Adapter charger for Apple MacBook Pro Laptop Charger exist

    does a usb cable
does a Usb cable to60 Watt L-Tip Power Adapter charger for Apple MacBook Pro Laptop Charger exist? i have an external battery pack i would like to use to charge my iphone and macbook pro.

Not that I am aware of.  An Internet search on your part will be required.  If you should find something to that effect, note it will not be endorsed by Apple and the magnetic connector will probably be in violation of Apple patents.
    Ciao.
