If you have records that show that you've taken your MacBook Pro in for a year to fix the machine, I would escalate the problem to Apple Customer Relations - unfortunately I don't have a number for Spain.
It would only seem logical to me that if you've been trying to have the machine repaired during the time that the 'recall' was in effect that you should be eligible for a new logic board. But only customer relations will be able to make that call.
Good luck - take the issue as high up the food chain as you can and see what happens.

I want to buy it on sale this friday, so a quick answer will make me happy :)

You should - if you're in the UAE, for instance, you should get an Arabic keyboard (you may have to specify when you configure your machine - I don't know, I live in the US).

  • My MacBook Pro be ballin' - beachballin' that is. Big freeze problems.

    Hi,
My MacBook Pro has decided to start freezing up and beachballing whenever I use Skype, Mail, Plex and sometimes when I use Launchbar. Usually my MacBook locks up for anything from several seconds to a few minutes, making it nearly impossible to get even basic things done. Typically, whenever I load up or type something into the above apps is when it locks up. Mail just locks up whenever I do anything when it's in the foreground. If I leave these apps open, the freezing spreads to other apps I regularly use, such as Safari, or even Activity Monitor or the Force Quit Window when I'm trying to diagnose the problem and quit the problem apps.
It's happened to me a couple of times before over the past year, and I thought I'd fixed it by deleting then reinstalling Skype and Growl (which was also slowing things down a lot) using AppZapper. But that hasn't helped much this time.
It was getting so bad that I tried deleting all my plist files in ~/Library/Preferences, in the hope it was a corrupt plist file. But the same apps cause the same slowdown after having done that, too. Actually, Skype and Launchbar seem a little bit better now. Skype hangs now after I press enter to send a message in Skype. Actually typing is (sometimes, but not always) OK. Launchbar only hangs for a few seconds, and not all the time now. Mail is still awful.
Looking in Console, which I'm not very familiar with, brings up some recurring messages that don't look good:
(I'm not sure if this one is relevant, but it keeps appearing every few seconds)
    18/09/2010 14:20:44 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.jft.PdaNetMac[13262]) posix_spawnp("/Applications/PdaNetMac.app/Contents/MacOS/PdaNetMac", ...): No such file or directory

    18/09/2010 14:20:50 org.apache.httpd[13263] Unable to open logs
The weird thing is I deleted pdanet ages ago. And searching in Launchbar, Spotlight and Houdahspot shows no relevant pdanet files other than my web receipt for buying it. The above error message keeps repeating ad infinitum.
I suspect these errors have more to do with the problem:
    18/09/2010 15:17:27 Skype[14047] Error loading /Library/QuickTime/DigitalVoodoo.component/Contents/MacOS/VoodooSDDV10: dlopen(/Library/QuickTime/DigitalVoodoo.component/Contents/MacOS/VoodooSDDV10, 262): Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/DigitalVoodooLib.framework/Versions/A/DigitalVoodooLib

18/09/2010 15:17:51 Skype[14047] Failure with ATSFontGetUnicodeCharacterCoverage(). Disabling font fallback optimization for characters not renderable.
These errors keep repeating as long as I have Skype open.
This message kept repeating when I opened Mail just now:
18/09/2010 15:50:30 Mail[14568] Failure with ATSFontGetUnicodeCharacterCoverage(). Disabling font fallback optimization for characters not renderable.
So perhaps this is a font problem? Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help appreciated. I rely a lot on my MacBook for my work, so the faster I can fix this without having to erase and install, the better. But I'll suck it up and reinstall if that's the only solution.
    Thanks in advance! (^_^)

    Thanks for the reply. (^_^)
I had a look at the links and found I'd attempted much of what was there already.
Step 2 (clearing the font cache) in the font article looked useful, but I've found it's not helped, unfortunately. In fact, these new error messages have popped up in Console since I cleared the font cache and restarted:

Launchbar also produces similar results as the top half of that pile of errors, as well as the previously mentioned Quicktime Voodoo component errors. Perhaps that problem is significant, too, I don't know... Right now, I'm about ready to just give up and erase and reinstall. But that doesn't prevent the problem from happening again, nor knowing what I can restore from backups without resurrecting the same problems... Any takers?

  • I erased my new macbook pro 2013 retina. now to reinstall os I have problem

3 weeks ago I bought a new brand macbook pro 2013 retina; but  I erased the whole hard with the intention of making my mac look just like the 1st day. I thought starting it up again is as easy an iPhone. ( you know, when you erase an iPhone you don't have to download ios again). but then I found out it's not that easy. I tried every possible way to reinstall mavericks like building a bootable flash drive using terminal, diskmakerX, etc. but no luck; I was desperate so talked to developer od the diskmakerX app and he told me the only way for me is to redownload mavericks directly form my new macbook pro; I tried it too, but since here in my country, Iran, internet speed is really slow besides that the country IP is in usa sanctions, downloading a huge file like mavericks which is about 5.3 GB was not an easy task; anyway, everytime I started the downloading it disconnected after a while and I had to click to download  again after a few times doing so now when I try to start downloading get this error :"a server with the specified hostnamecould not be found" or "could not find installation information for this machine"
now my newly bought macbook pro is completely useless
I would really really appreciate it if anyone could help me with this friggin' issue; it is driving me crazy
Thank you in advance for your time and energy and GOD bless you

well I have a mb Air, is it ok?
No.  It has to be the same MBP model as yours.
To clone, you attach an external HDD to a MBP and open DISK UTILITY>RESTORE and fill the appropriate fields with the host MBP and the external HDD.  Click on Restore and then the data with the OSX will be copied to the external HDD.
Then attach the HDD to the recipient MBP (yours) and boot the MBP with the OPTION key held down.  The external HDD will appear, select it and boot the MBP.  Again select DISK UTILITY>RESTORE.  Select the external HDD as the Source and the MBP as the Destination and click on Restore.  The data with the OSX will be copied on to your MBP from the external HDD.  It then should be functional.
    Ciao.

  • I get an error message when trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. The message says "windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have anything connected to my computer. How do I fix this?

I'm trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. I went through the process of bootcamp telling it to install windows 7. Once the windows boot manager started an error message came up. The error message says " windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have a usb connected to my computer. I  am using windows 7 professional install disc. I  can't figure out what i am doing wrong. The same message keeps coming up over and over. Am I doing something wrong or is it something else?

Well, shucks, i just spent almost 30 minutes trying to find your model user guide to explain it better, I guess they never got around to making it.....
I would just borrow another Windows disk and try installing it again and if it does it again then you might take it to an Apple Store and see if one of the "Genius' " can figure it out.
Make sure your internet is enabled and click on your blank desktop and at the top of your screen is a Help menu option, enter PRAM and it should give you a list of things relating to Pram. It may take a few seconds to list anything as it has to connect to Apples severs first. It should list the things you may have to fill back in when your done.
"P-ram" stores some common information that is used in the background, your date, time, startup disk, etc, that you don't have to re-fill when you restart, it's a little different for each computer.

  • MacBook Pro Mid 2010 13", Lion 10.7.2, keyboard backlight / ALS not working

Since upgrading to Mac OS X Lion I have had problems with keyboard backlight and the ambient light sensor. I realized that the problem seems to be caused by ambient light sensor or hardware detection issues. LCD is not auto-dimming with light intensity variation. Since then I've done a Snow Leopard clean install and upgraded to Lion with no success. Then I have done clean installs of Lion using USB Keys with versions 10.7.0, 10.7.1 and 10.7.2 and the problem persists. Under Snow Leopard everything works like a charm.
SMC and PRAM reset did not solve the problem.
When I press F5 and F6 to adjust the backlight nothing comes up on the screen.
    No settings under Keyboard menu.
Any ideas on how to solve this?

    Max,
I have the same model MacBook Pro as you. Have you tried erasing your internal disk, reïnstalling Snow Leopard from your grey Mac OS X Install DVD, and running Software Update to get it  to 10.6.8, to see if it also misbehaves under Snow Leopard?

  • Macbook Pro 2010 Forced to Restart - is there a major problem with it?

A couple of days ago my 2010 Macbook Pro told me it had to restart because of some error. I got it August 2010, in December 2010 it had a hard drive failure. Since then its just gotten hot a lot and then about a month or two ago I had to take it into an Apple Store because it was running so slowly it became unuseable, which happened just before the hard drive failure of 2010. But I managed to find the source of it myself (no thanks to the geniuses...) and cleared it up (though it still ran quite slowly). The trackpad has always had issues of not responding and recently both the keyboard and trackpad stopped responding completely (which I filmed in case there were any further issues) and luckily I have a bluetooth keyboard and wireless mouse so this was not too big a problem. After a day, they miraculously started working again. Another issue that has happened a couple times is when the sound stops working, which again miraculously starts working again with a restart. Anyway, the restart issue happened after all of the above and the report it gave me is below:

  • 10.6.4 Macbook Pro will no longer connect to Apple bluetooth keyboard/mouse

I installed the 10.6.4 update and my MacBook Pro 17" froze after a while. I rebooted and now the bluetooth will not connect or my Apple wireless keyboard or Mighty Mouse. I can also no longer turn the bluetooth off.
    Anyone else having problems?

Same thing happened to me. I had the same problem updating from 10.6.2 to 10.6.3 also.
I was able to fix it again (in the update from 10.6.3 to 10.6.4) using the same approach:
Look in both /Library/Preferences (the library folder at the root level of your hard drive) and ~/Library/Preferences (the library folder inside your user folder). Delete the file com.apple.Bluetooth.plist from both locations then shut down the computer fully before restarting.
It is important to click shut down (and not just restart). I don't know why, but it won't work if you just click restart.

  • MacBook Pro Earth Hum Issue: Fairly certain I know the problem, I could just use some advice.

Been a MacBook Pro user for almost a year now. I had an issue with my charger a couple of months ago, as it got a split (my own fault) and despite trying to a DIY job, I thought a new one would be best. However, since it was only one part of the charger, I thought I'd try looking for just the part in question. So I went to eBay, which in hindsight was probably a terrible idea. This was the part I got...
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230946261873?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1 497.l2649
99.6% feedback, UK seller and at the time, quite good reviews from other buyers. Everything seemed pretty good. However, in less than a month, not only is the charger visually deterioating (something that in a year, I never experienced on my original charger) and worse, I'm getting a buzz when it's plugged in, most notably when I have headphones in (also never happened on my original charger). Unplug the charger, it goes away. Both my V-Modas and Earbuds work fine on other devices. The earbuds are terrible with the buzz. So I tried my old, DIY-fixed charger and low and behold, the buzz disappeared.
Not only that, but I've got two, albeit very very small, shocks from this charger. I've stopped using it now and went back to the old charger that whilst works, isn't in the best condition. Going to have to get a new one ASAP.
My question, mainly, is would it be safe to assume a brand new charger direct from Apple, or from PC World (a local authorised seller) would work without any of these issues? Secondly, do we think that perhaps the "genuine" charger I was sold is far from it? The quality is flimsy compared to the original one I got, which doesn't seem fitting. Could I have a bit more than a simple 'broken product' dispute on my hands?

Yep, that's the one. That seller has agreed to refund it upon testing.
Also, having spoken to AppleCare, my original charger (with the cable tear) could still be replaceable under warranty, so I'm getting that looked at tomorrow.

  • MacBook Pro will not boot - have replaced hard drive and problem persists

    Macbook Pro Mid 2010
4gb ram, 2.4 GHz Intel core 2 duo
Originally when I received a folder with a flashing question mark upon startup, I assumed I had a failed hard drive. I went ahead and installed a new 500GB hard drive in my machine and installed OS X Snow Leopard. I upgraded to OS X Mavericks, and I had everything running properly. The next day, I went to startup and my Mac would not boot again. The dreaded folder and question mark were back.
I'm wondering what else could be causing this problem? Is it something I can diagnose and repair myself or will I be better off taking it into someone at this point?
    Thank you!

You can try replacing the hard drive cable...
Have you tried resetting the PRAM and SMC?
Does the hard drive boot when connected externally?

  • Install an SSD from my old macbook pro into a new one without reformat - time machine problem!

    Hi all!
I've bought a new macbook pro 13" 2012 to replace my old macbook pro 2010.
In my old macbook pro 2010 I was using an Sandisk 480 SSD that has everything working and installed, as I sold the old one, I put my hard drive and format it to sell to my friend.
In the new macbook 2012, I soon I receive it, I replace the HDD with my old SSD an everything works normally except some problems that I'm discovering now!
MY new macbook boot without no problems and until now every software that I've testes is working ok! Some of them ask me to register again but all of them is working.
My problems starts with my VPN configuration, the new macbook looses all my VPN connections, but as it wasn't so much (only 6) I'm reconfiguring them as I need it.
My worst problem is happening with time machine backup. When I start my mac with the tima machine disk, it ask me if I want to inherit the old backups and I click to accept it, but the systems spends a lot of time searching for the time machine disk and them shows an error telling that is impossible to write on the disk.
I've checked the disk in disk utility and it's mounted as read/write. But I've tried to create a new directory on the disk and receive an error of operation denied!
What or where should I look to solve this problem?? Thanks!

You can resolve that by installing the 10.6.6 Combo Updater instead of the smaller incremental updater.
+BTW, you should never use a version of OS X that's older than the version that shipped with the computer.+
