I am sharing my macbook pro over a network with windows 7, however through windows 7 I can access my whole computer instead of just the shared files!

    Hi Sig,
The issue is that i only want the shared folders to be accessed through windows 7.
Whats the point otherwise to have shared folders?

  • Can my MacBook Pro use boot camp with Windows 7 with BitLocker encryption?

I'm at wit's end with this, and I'm hoping I can get some advice here.  I've read so many forum, posts and reviews that I'm not entirely sure what I can trust.
I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (MacBookPro8,3). I need to run Windows encrypted for work purposes. It needs to be real windows with full-disk encryption (FDE). The business tools run in boot camp, but not in Parallels, because Parallels doesn't support DirectX 11. I would also benefit greatly from an SSD.
I do not want to do anything hacky like removing the Mac reocovery partition, because I've read that just loading Disk Utility in OS X might mess up your patrition boot tables as it tries to "fix" things. I don't want to have to manually reocover to fix stuff or chance losing data.
I have read (and tried) installing BitLocker on Windows 7 Ultimate under boot camp, but ran into the partition limit on my internal HDD. A maximum of 4 partitions are allowed, and between OS X, its recovery, boot camp, and the Windows partition, all 4 are used.
I have considered one of the following, which may work:
Install OWC's Data Doubler Kit with an additional 240GB SSD (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DDMBS6E240/). I would replace the internal SuperDrive with the HDD, and install the new SSD on the faster SATA 6G port. Windows would be installed on the SSD and OS X would stay on the HDD.
Replace the internal HDD with a new SSD (keeping the SuperDrive). I would lose OS X altogether and just have Windows installed.
Forget the entire thing and just buy a PC for work.
My thoughts are that with option both options #1 and #2, I don't even know if these setups will allow BitLocker. In both cases, Windows will be the only partition on the drive, so I'm assuming that when BitLocker is installed, there will be room for the new partition it creates. With option #1, I'm pretty sure I'd still be using Boot Camp, but how would that would for option #2? Is boot camp used even though there is no Mac partition? Would I still need to keey the Mac Recovery partition for this to work? I'd probably need to use Boot Camp drivers under Windows, I think.
I'd certainly be interested in using a self-encrypting drive (SED), especially a SSD, but I'm concerned that most of them appear to require TPM or BIOS functions that Mac's EFI does not provide. Such a drive would allow me to drop BitLocker, but I would need to be use the self-encryption actually works on this setup. From what I've read, most of the SED drives will work just fine under EFI, but you won't be able to set or access the encryption password, which pretty much makes these drives unencrypted.
I've read that BitLocker can be configured to use a flash drive as a decryption key, but I haven't been able to test that yet. I'm tried creating bootable flash drives under Windows and OS X, and none of them seem to appear when I access the boot menu (hold option during boot chime). I don't even know if this system supports bootable USB flash drives, or whether they can be used as a BitLocker key under boot camp.
For the record, I have attempted to use an external thunderbolt drive as my Windows partition, but Windows doesn't want to be installed on removable media, and even if it worked, I believe you can only boot OS X from thunderbolt. I do have a second OS X install booting from the thunderbolt drive, so I know that works. Also, FileVault 2 is installed on my OS X partition, and I read something about FV2 using the Recovery partition somehow so you can't remove the recovery partition to make room for BitLocker.
So ... does anyone have any suggestions preferably based on personal experience as to whether options #1 or #2 should work for my needs?
At this point, I'm really thinking I should just bite the bullet and purchase a PC that I will forever look down upon.

Are you using a MacBook Pro? Is everything installed on the same drive?
I would love to know how that install was performed. When I install Windows under boot camp, my MacBook Pro drive ends up with 4 partitions: Mac, Mac Recovery, Windows, and a small partition that I believe is used by boot camp.
Installing BitLocker on Windows requires the creation of a new small partition that Windows will boot off. The small partition is unencrypted, while the primary Windows partition will get encrypted. The following post discusses the maximum partition issue: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22753791#22753791
Has anyone installed Windows through boot camp on it's own drive, and if so, can BitLocker be installed on that without reaching any partition limit? I'm assuming that's possible, but would like to know before I spend hundreds on new hardware.

  • MacBook Pro 11/2007 problem with SSD OCZ Vertex Series 250 GB

    Hi,
you can read my detailed problem in the OCZ board here:
    http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64941
    The short version:
    - I bought an OCZ Vertex SSD with 250 GB for my 2 years old MacBook Pro
    - System Details: MacBookPro3,1; Boot Rom: MBP31.0070.B07; CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz; SMC: 1.18f5
    - The first 250 GB OCZ SSD was an firmware 1.3 and I could install it with Snow Leopard very easy. After 2 days the HDD just disappeared and it also didn't work in an other PC with an internal SATA port and also not with an external disk with sata to FireWire / USB
    - I RMA'ed the disk with OCZ and received a new one with firmware 1.4. I tried to install the computer from scratch and it couldn't write the partition when the SSD was connected to the internal SATA port of the MBP. I used the external SATA to USB and formated the disk with another mac. Then I could install SL from scratch but after some hours the computer began to stall and after the reboot it tried to run fschk and I got the error: "kernel[0]: disk0: I/O error."
(again: Further details please have a look at the link above)
    - When I boot the system through firewire with the SSD connected through SATA to Firewire it works like a charm but that doesn't make sense (Having a MBP with an external boot drive)
    - I RMA'ed the disk again and last week I received the third one but it had the exact same problem.
So now OCZ told me to ask apple for a possible solution. Does anybody have an idea what to do?
I've read two posts about OCZ problems and they wrote about efi 1.7 problem and with efi 1.6 it would work. Didn't try it out yet - should I?
    Thanks for you help!

  • My macbook pro is having problems with external hardrive installation

I bought a seagate 2TB external hard drive and every time that I get to the part of the installation where it asks me to "activate" this product my computer tells me "not responding".  I called seagate tech support and they told me that I have something wrong with my operating system.  My macbook pro is still OS 10.4 version, so it's time to upgrade, which is what I'm trying to do by backing up all of my files before I install snow leapard, but I'm getting stuck at this seemingly simple step of activation.  Is there any ideas of where to go from here?

What sort of activation is this?  Sounds like something you really don't need unless the drive is somehow locked.
I think I would do the following:
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.  If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • Satellite Pro L850 1DR - Problems with Windows 7 Update KB2887069

I am having problems installing Update KB2887069.
It appears to install okay ... invites me to restart ... when I do it says it is configuring ... gets to 7% then starts the restart ... shows it is configuring again ... up to 7 or 9% ... then reports it is failing and restoring ... restarts again ... and that's it ... not installed and reference to Windows Update confirms it has failed.
All the other updates I had today installed okay once I realised KB2887069 was the problem and omitted it from the update.
I'm running Win 7 Prof Serv Pack 1 - 64-bit on a Toshiba Satellite Pro L850 1DR. I use Microsoft Security Essentials as my AV software.
For now I have had to hide the update ... but anyone any bright ideas how to overcome the problem. I have tried Microsoft's site but as yet there are no answers that have provided a solution for me.
    Thanks in anticipation!!

I am "replying to myself" on this one so if anyone else has experienced a similar problem they can see what I did to resolve the matter.
I contacted Microsoft and received excellent support ... although it took a long old time (over the course of 3 days) to resolve the problem, the staff at Microsoft knew their stuff and proceeded tenaciously to overcome every obstacle.
I did feel somewhat sorry for them that one little update should result in the need to offer so much commitment to just one customer ... I was also grateful the resolution was achieved over a time when I was not that busy!
Additional Info: I refer above to 3 days ... for those interested, the time was spent as follows:
Day 1: about an hour and a half covering all the basic checks including sfc /scannow etc after which the update would still not install. (I had done these but accepted Microsoft needed to have the opportunity to check the situation for themselves).
Day 2: a technician called me at a pre-agreed time and having done a few more checks decided to re-download Windows 7.1 (over 3 GB ... on my connection that took a long time) and re-install it (without affecting my data, thank goodness ... but again the process of installation took a long time). The technician left me to do all the updating (a further 3-400MB). Time commitment for me about 5 hours ... but I was able to work on other things while the download, install etc was on as long as I kept half an eye on the screen.
Day 3: the same technician called me back (just when he said he would) ... told him I had no problems with updates (incl KB2887069) but was getting a weird message in Outlook when following hyperlinks and also I could not install IE11 for some reason. Both problems were resolved and other tiny matters sorted over the course of one hour.
Summary: problem therefore took up to 7.5 hours of my time to overcome, approximately half of which I was able to turn my attention to other things on another machine. In my view an acceptable investment of time to have the peace of mind of knowing everything is working just as it should be. I was impressed with Microsoft's staff who were as reliable as they were friendly and patient.

  • Macbook pro 2012 bluetooth problem with magic mouse

I have a MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 running Mac OS X 10.7.4
It's two days old and Bluetooth has stopped working.. I use bluetooth for my apple magic mouse.
I know it's the Bluetooth app and not the mouse as I changed the mouse batteries and double checked it with my old iMac.
The Bluetooth app has become sluggish and unresponsive.
I have restarted and logged out and in.
    Run permissions.
    Switched Bluetooth off and on.
    Scratched my beard.
    Any ideas or similar problems?

Not sure which Bluetooth app you are referring to ...
    Try deleting Bluetooth preferences ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    /LIbrary/Preferences
    Click Go
Move the   com.apple.Bluetooth.plist   file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Now open System Preferences > Bluetooth and try re "pairing" the mouse.

  • Macbook Pro late 2013 - problem with login screen resolution

    Hi,
I've got problem with login screen resolution, after upgrade to Yosemite. I use the 4rd resolution (last one) on my Mac Pro (late 2013), and after restart login screen is always on optimum mode... But it's only about the login screen.
Do you know how can I fix it? I would like to have the same resolution on every screen.
    thx in advance

I  Reformatted the CF card  on the new computer   it works fine now on the new Mac Pro
Interesting point about  the low power  of the usb ports   I had to deal with all devices ejecting them selves  when the mac pro  was idle or slept  Drobo needed a Firmware update and another drives  needed  me  to change the sleep setting  or the Mac Pro   to never and  i also  had to deploy a  script to write to each device  ever minute,   this  kind  of sold the problem  with external Hard drives.   I wonder if the lowering  power  to a CF card   can eject  it  in a manor  which would make the  computer  think it is corrupt.
I have looked at  buying a power usb Hub    but seems only one or two  of the ports are powered.
Seems to be a bit problem with the mac pro especially  as everything has to be connected externally
Will assume the Firewire Connector does not work.

  • MacBook Pro 2012 hinge problem with single click sound when i open it

when i go to sleep and shut my macbook off and close the screen next morning i open my screen and i hear a single click noise??
im paranoid ita a brand new macbook its not a hard drive fail it just a single click sound when i open it to turn on
and heres a video of the hinge is this is whats causing the single click sound? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEUt2p783nA

I have this problem too with my Mid-2012 MBP non-retina. The screen would click once, after being left for a long time, and would be fine after that, until you close it and re-open it again after a long time. It is especially loud in the morning so I think it is temperature dependent. Happened about 3 months after buying. I took it to Apple. First time they replaced the entire screen. They had to since that is the only way to replace the hinge. When I got it back, the screen still clicks. Took it back to Apple again. Second time they just tightened the screws securing the display with the unibody. When I got it back the second time, the screen still clicks. Took it back to Apple again. The third time they replaced the entire screen AGAIN! When I got it back, the problem was fixed for 2 days, then the screen started clicking again so I'm back to square one. I'm wondering whether I should take it to Apple the forth time, but then again, they've already replaced the screen twice which didn't work so I'm not sure what more they can do. It's either this is normal, which implies the screen hinge is really badly designed or the clicking has nothing to do with the screen at all.

  • Since I downloaded Mavericks on my MacBook Pro, I have problems with my email. Some accounts do not work. Some do.

Some accounts do work, others not. I have removed the not working accounts and than added them again, didnt fix the problem. For the record; all accounts work perfectly on my other devices, Ipad and Iphone.

Yep, everything worked fine before Mavericks. I removed the account that didnt work at all and re-installed it, didnt work. All accounts work fine on my other devices like Ipad and Iphone, so it's not in the account itself.

  • Macbook Pro - "Invalid Password" problem with home Wifi

    Hi folks,
As of 5 days ago...my MBP refuses to connect to my wifi at home. It constantly returns a "invalid password" response.
It has been connecting to this same wifi network for years, and nothing has been updated or changed on the network settings.
My iPhone and non-Mac computer can connect without trouble.
The MBP can connect to OTHER wifi networks, no problem.
As per here: Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity - Apple Support
I deleted all existing networks and re-started, but issue remains. This wifi uses a WPA2 password.
Something must be corrupted / broken on my MBP...but I can't seem to "start from scratch" to get my wifi working again. Extremely furstrating. Liek I said, my other devices can connect wirelessly without issues.

Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
        Restart the computer.
        Start up in Safe Mode.

  • My MacBook Pro 13" (2012) is running Windows 7 on Bootcamp and there is an issue with the headset I'm using.

My MacBook Pro 13" (2012) is running Windows 7 on Bootcamp and there is an issue with the headset I'm using. I use a cheap Logitech Stereo Headset H130, but since there is only on audio plugin on the computer, I purchased a 3.5 mm 4-pin smartphone audio adapter thingy. That allowed me to put both my the sound coming to my headset & the microphone on my headset onto one wire. Everything worked wonderfully when running the Mac OS since they probably have support for that kind of stuff. The problem is though that once I try to use the same method in Windows 7, the OS doesn't recognize my headset microphone at all, but, instead when recording my voice decides to use the built-in mac microphone. Using this adapter still allows me to hear from my headset, but not use the microphone and that becomes a problem. It might be so that Windows 7 doesn't have support\drivers for that... How should I continue from here on out? Any advice?

From what I have read from others on here you may be out of luck. You would need the appropriate Windows drivers for the Cirrus chip in the Mac and no one has been able to successfully locate them. Apple wouldn't support this since Windows is an optional install.
Sorry to bring the bad news.
