MacBook Pro (9,2) Thunderbolt Port does not project mirror image correctly

Scenario:
Using an Apple Mini Display Port to VGA adapter
MacBook Pro (9,2)
Thunderbolt port
Various projectors
Epson 450w
Epson 460
Epson PowerLite 45+
Using Mirroring setting in Display preferences.
Symptoms:
Inserting the Apple Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter (with the projector cable attached) into the Thunderbolt port causes a black scrambled image screen.  Switching resoutions does not resolve the issue.  One resolution setting came close to being viewable, but multiple images of desktop were seen.
Resolution (for me and maybe you):
Attempted multiple Thunderbolt software updates and FW updates, no success (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5219).  Successful: Prior to startup, insert Apple Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter (with the projector cable attached) into the Thunderbolt port, do a PRAM reset, adjust resolutions to your preference.  Should work.  Only tested with Apple branded Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter.

The solution worked.

I can't install my old logic 8 on my new macbook pro. It says it does not support powerpc applications anymore. what do i need to do?? this is ridiculous!!!

Logic 8 will probably run on your new machine but the installation program contains some older PPC code for pre Intel Macs. This was not a problem as all OSX versions contained the "Rosetta" PPC emulation, that is, up until Lion when all PPC emulation was dropped.
There are ways to do this however, try searching Google for:  Installing Logic 8 under Lion or Mountain Lion.

To check your model go to About This Mac (by clicking on the Apple icon, top left) and then select more info. If you wish to use mirroring you will need one from 2011 or later running OSX 10.8 or later. The alternative would be to use 3rd party software like Airparrot.

    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

I am trying to install a brand new WD 500 gb sata internal hd in my macbook pro. the original install dvd does not recognise the hd. all hardware is ok. any help?

For some reason OS X disks (whatever edition or flavors) that are supplied with Apple products only seem to contain a limited knowledge of available hard drives on the market at the time of thier publishing. This (rather opportunistically) creates a "Best Before" stale-OS X-software-copy situation where upgrading to or replacing a defective internal SATA hard drive with a newer, better or larger one is a largely hit and miss affair.
If you buy the latest and greatest disk drive available for any older Mac you are likely to run into unresolvable problems making a clean re-install of your own, old edition or flavor of OS X onto any newer or larger hard drive since the OEM (gray) "OS X Install Disks" that Apple supply with retail products seem to contain only time-sensitive lists/mapings of then-known target drives that the Drive Management Tool in the then-published old "Installer Software" will support.
Presumably new (colorful "X") retail versions of OS X (10.whatever.whatever) also contain time-limited Installers with limited knowledge of and adaptability to/compatability with a limited number of old hard drives then kicking-around on the market.
This is especially a problem nowadays since the countless "puny old" hard drives that have been on the market are largely obsolete in a few months time, as manufacturers continue to produce larger and cheaper units, discontinuing older puny products... So if your drive fails you need an exact old (or similar familial) replacement drive for your "backup copy of OS X" to do a fresh, clean OS X re-install. Otherwise you need to purchase a new retail version of OS X, since yours is now effectively obsolete. Purchasing an old, puny drive to re-install your version.flavor of OS X to avoid buying a new version of OS X is a rather false economy.
If you still have a working old hard drive with your old polluted 10.version.flavor of OS X still working on it you apparently must clone it with Time Machine or the newest version of Disk Utility (disk image copying) to most newer, larger drives, and a clean reinstall to such new hard drives is not possible.

  • Pro 2840 No mini DP detection on Macbook Pro 2014 from 'thunderbolt' port. Help!

May have relation to this issue http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVision-displays/Lenovo-ThinkVision-Pro2840m-4K-no-DisplayPort-signa...
The solution for which is apparently a firmware update (firmware updates are not public and require sending the monitor to lenovo.)
Now as far as I understand it, this monitor can display at 60hz over through it's mini display port. New macbook pros don't have a display port output, but have a thunderbolt output which the more astute among you will know is effectively the same thing as a mini display port output.
Now upon connecting the thunderbolt cable from my macbook to the pro 2840m, nothing happens. The monitor acts like it's recieiving no signal (although recognises the connection) and my macbook doesnt detect a new monitor.
I've had absolutely no luck finding a solution to this problem and given how common my hardware is I can't be the only one. Does anyone have any ideas? Stuck using the monitor at 30hz and I'd rather have a refund than continue on like this.
    Thanks for reading!

Out of own experience I can say that the fault here is with your cable. For 4K@60Hz you absolutely need a TRUE DisplayPort 1.2 certified cable (be it DP, miniDP or Thunderbolt). I was supprised despite silly brands like StarTech.com, Intronics or ACT caliming their DP-DP cables to support DisplayPort 1.2, to experience for myself that in fact they didn't at all. I had to try 4 different cable brands, to finally find one DP-DP cable by Delock (from the 8277x family) which truely supported DisplayPort 1.2 signals.

help! i've googled around, but none seems to solve my problem
my macbook pro is early 2011, 13", running lion.
the philips monitor is vga only, so i have a mini display port to vga adaptor and connecting it to the vga.
the screen on my mbp does turn blue, but no input is detected on the external monitor.

If it does not detect the display automatically, try going to system preferences>displays, click detect displays.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 DVI HDMI out does not work with TV when the power cable is connected

My Macbook Pro (Early 2011) DVI HDMI out does not work with TV when the power cable is connected. If get the blue screen and then can use the macbook but nothing is displayed on the TV. If i go into display I can see that there are two screens but nothing displayed on the TV. If i take the power cable out at this point the TV shows the second desktop as expected. If i then reconnect the cable, the screen flickers, as though it is being affected by the power cable, and the screen goes blank on the TV. Only if i remove the DVI cable do i get the blue screen again. If i remove the power cable and reconnect it will do it every single time, so i cannot see it being a TV issue or a minor glitch.
I have had this working previously but at the minute it seems to not be playing ball....any thoughts
    Thanks

  • Macbook pro default maximum screen size does not cover the bottom inch

Kind of frustrated by my new macbook pro.
At the bottom of the screen, there's the icon bar (icon dock), which is about inch height. I adjusted it to smaller size, about half inch. This is what I did, not sure if related to my problem.
At the beginning, I thought it was Safari's problem. Later I found all programs has the problem. I'll use Safari as example to describe the problem though.
When I open Safari, it does not expand to the bottom inch of the screen, as if the icon dock prevents it expanding to the icon bar area of original icon bar size (i.e., inch, not half inch I'm using), and as if there was a line at the bottom inch. I click the plus sign (maximum screen), it still leave the inch uncovered. However, if I use full screen modle, Safari would covers the whole screen.
when not in full screen model, I can drag the bottom edge of Safari, but can only drag to the virtual icon bar line (at bottom inch position). When bottom edge is at the virtual line, the drag arrow is single direction pointing to up. However, I could move Safari to lower and cover the bottom inch area (with icon bar on the top), and then drag the top edge to make it cover all screen area.
What makes more annoying is if a new tab automatically opens, Safari will goes to the size with the bottom inch uncovered. This problem does not happen if program runs in full screen model.
I tried a few programs, all have such problem. Looks to me default maximum screen size excludes the bottom inch (because by default that area is supposed to be occupied by icon bar although I changed the size or just simply hide the icon bar).
Anyone know why? How to solve the problem? TIA.

    called Apple, the solution is:
    1, turn on sound
    2, shutdown
3, press and hold these four keys the same time: left option, left command, R, and P
4, press and release power button to restart
5, after first starting chime sound, continue hold those four keys
6, after second starting chime sound, release keys
this resets some settings --- not sure what is reset though.

  • MacBook Pro 17" (mid 2010) desktop does not fill entire screen

    Hi,
First of all I apologize for posting such a long question but in order to best describe the problem I am having with my MacBook Pro, I had to mention every detail.
I recently installed windows 7 x64 home premium on my new MacBook Pro 17 inch (mid 2010). After successfully installing the Bootcamp drivers (version 3.1) I have noticed that my screen resolution has become slightly smaller than before. There are half an inch thick black bars on the right side as well as on the top of the screen.
This problem is not limited to windows, I'm having the same problem in mac osx after the windows 7 installation. Even on the start up gray screen.
I have tried almost every trick in the book, adjusting the screen resolution from the display settings menu (which by the way are on 1920x1080), checking all the settings on the nvidia control panel, resetting the SMC, resetting the VRAM, running the hardware diagnostic test (short as well as the long one), formatting the windows partition, formatting the Mac OSX partition then performing a fresh install of both. So far, I have been frustrated with failure.
After trying my best to resolve this issue on my own, I tried my luck with apple support. The customer representative was very helpful and listened carefully as I explained the problem to him. He asked me first to check for any available updates on my mac osx as well as in win 7. I told him that I had already installed every available update in both the OS's. He then asked me to reset the SMC and after that to reset the VRAM. Even though I had already tried this, I still gave it another shot but that didn't help.
Since my MBP was still under the standard warranty, (I have also purchased the Apple Care Protection Plan) he asked me to take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider. I took his advice and went to the nearest AASP. The Apple Engineer over there performed the same steps, adjusting screen resolution, resetting SMC and VRAM, but even he was not able to resolve this problem. He suggested that I should get my graphics card replaced or if required upon inspection, the logic board replaced. To be very honest, I was very skeptical about his suggestion as the laptop is brand new, hardly 2 months old. How is it possible that there could be a problem with the hardware? I asked him whether it is possible to restore the firmware of the graphics card as the problem could be software related. He said that Apple have not started issuing firmware restoration CD's for the latest mid 2010 MBP's so a firmware restore won't be possible. My best bet would be to get the graphics card replaced or the whole logic board replaced.
So you see, I have been down almost every possible road which could have lead to resolving this issue but unfortunately I am stuck with it. I hope any of you could offer a different approach in order to get rid of this annoying problem.
Any help would be highly appreciated. (Trust ME!!!)
PS: I have also posted this question on the Bootcamp forums page. Since the problem is not limited to windows 7, I decided to post here as well.

UPDATE: I just came back after a visit to the apple service provider here in New Delhi. They have replaced the logic board on my macbook pro and guess what? the situation is still the same. No difference what so ever as far as the screen resolution is concerned. I can still see those black bars in the exact same places i.e. the right hand side as well as on the top of the screen. Even the size of the black bars are still the same.
I am so upset right now. After trying my best in order to solve this problem I went to the AASP with high hopes. I was very confident that after replacing the logic board this annoying problem would go away but unfortunately that's not the case. Even the Apple Engineer was clueless on how to solve this problem.
I think I'll call apple care and speak to the customer relations regarding a replacement.
If any of you can come up with a solution to this problem please let me know.
    I'm all ears!!!

  • My Macbook Pro Retina's serial number does not show up on Apple's warranty check page?

My Macbook Pro which I bought around 2 weeks ago doesn't show up in Apple's warranty check website it just says:
"We're sorry, the number you have provided cannot be found in our records. Please verify the number and try again, or contact us.'"
Currently I do not have any problem with the machine. But I always like to check the warranty in any product when I buy it and it got my attention what is said. An important detail is that I bought it from an Apple Authorized Reseller. I have try also registering from webpage to register my devices and this showed up: We're sorry, but this serial number is either invalid or it is for Apple software or accessories. If you are trying to register Apple hardware other than an accessory, please check your information and try again.

Firstly, is your Macbook Pro a new one.   The apple registration site is now closed and the details are usually sent to Apple via the sales slip or seller.   Have you checked to see if the serial number on the machine itself matches that number you provided to Apple?
At this busy busy time of the year you should also expect delays but in the event the situation continues you will need to get on to Apple Support.   Can't tell where your location is so go via ...
Contact Apple for support and service
find your national flag and proceed from there.

    Hi rbarnes1121,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
From what I understand, your trackpad on you MacBook Pro can be erratic and perform commands that you are not meaning for it to perform. In this situation, I would recommend reading over the attached article to help troubleshoot this situation.
