Macbook pro a/c adapter not charging

The Apple a/c adapter that charges the Macbook Pro (daughter's computer) does not charge the computer nor does the green light on the cord light up.  Was going to test someone's else Macbook Pro adapter to see if the issue is with the original adapter and not the internal battery.  Assume the adapter just needs to be replaced.  Not for sure if there was some type of electrical surge or problem that caused the adapter to go bad.

Hi
Had the problem of "battery not charging" on Macbook Pro 2006
Charger connecter lit up green
It was very new non apple battery from OWC
Looked at the System Profile only 16 cycles on the battery
AC charger was shown as "connected"
Battery showed up so not a problem with poor connection or not properly inserted (I had tried taking the battery in and out several times) but the profiler said "Charging: No"
Charger worked on another Macbook so that wasnt the problem
I tried the SMC reset where you sleep, shutdown, take out the battery, press power supply for 5 secs, reconnect AC, reinsert battery etc - No luck
Then I read the SMC also controls the sleep wake cycle and lid closure.
I cant exactly remember what I did because I was so ****** off by this stage and starting to lose concentration but I think I closed the lid and let the computer go to sleep and then opened it again to rewake.
After doing this 3 times the bloody thing now shows the battery is charging
A bit random I know but saved me having mental breakdown
I would love to know if this helps anyone else!

  • Macbook Pro Early 2011 says (Not Charging)

Hello, my Macbook Pro Early 2011 says (Not Charging) when I unplugged the charger, so I can't see how much battery percentage it has, the battery life runs normally, but I can't see where it goes because of the (Not charging) message. I can only see it when I plug the power adapter, but once I unplugged it, it comes the (Not charging) message again. please help. thank you.

ok, the problem is that it says (Not charging) even though the power adapter is not plugged in. It is charging normally but doesn't show the battery percentage because it shows a (Not charging) message. The only way to know the battery percentage is plugging in the power adapter, but once I unplugged it, the (Not charging) message appears again and don't let me see how much battery it has left.

If you have Apple Care or your computer is still under warranty, give them a call and get a case number.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Macbook pro 13 in 2010 not charging?

hi! i recently bought a macbook pro 2010 around a month ago, put of no where it stopped charging and i didn't realize until after my laptop had already died, i had the charging port replaced thinking that could be the problem but sure enough it still does not work, the battery indicator flashes one green light for 5 seconds, the magsafe L charger i have shows an orange light when i plug it into the outlet and when i plug it into the computer, when i unplug the charger from the laptop the battery indicator does flash that one light again, can anyone tell me what could be wrong? i cannot do much with it considering its dead and wont turn on.  i already tried leaving it alone to charge all night and it still made no difference.

If you try different outlets and that does not help, try to borrow a different charger and see if that works.  If not, or you cannot borrow one, take the MacBook Pro and charger to an App,e store genius bar and have them tested.

Thought it was just batt low but it would not even charge, neither the battery sign located on the left side wouldn't show any sign/blink/color. Hi i'm sorry but what is  SMC?
    System Management Controller
The System Management Controller (SMC) is responsible for many  low-level functions on Intel-based Macs.  These functions include:
Responding to presses of the power button
Responding to display lid opening and closing on portable Macs
    Battery management
    Thermal management
    The SMS (Sudden Motion Sensor)
    Ambient light sensing
    Keyboard backlighting
    Status Indicator Light (SIL) management
    Battery status indicator lights
Selecting an external (instead of internal) video source for  some iMac displays

  • Macbook pro 15' power adapter not working

When I was using macbook pro 15' early 2008 this morning, the power adapter suddenly did not work. The led light on the power adapter blanked and the status bar showed that I was using the battery. I am sure about the power adapter is fine cause I try it on another macbook pro and it works well. I have tried to take off the battery and the power adapter for 30 secs and then press the power button. But it does nothing good. I have tried to press the option + command + "R" + "P" and power button to reset PRAM. But the problem is still there. Now I have run out my battery what should I do ?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
It sounds like the power board inside the MacBook Pro has failed, best get it to an authorised repair centre.

    Hi ohhellonat,
If you are having unusual power or battery issues with your MacBook Pro, you may want to try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC). You may find the following article helpful:

  • Macbook pro 5,3 will not charge the battery

the 85w charger will not charge my macbook battery, the indicator turns orange indicating that its charging, but the battery charge level does not increase.  either its the charger or its the battery not accepting a chare.
is there any way to distinguished between what one it is other than purchasing a new charger?

See Step #1 for power/battery issues. Do a SMC Reset.

  • Macbook pro 15'' 2011 will not charge while playing games under win7 64

During the game (under high load ex. crysis2), the charging LED changes from orange to green and the computer does not charge,
even the battery drains slowly. If battery charge is 100%, in about 50 minutes after the start of the game, the battery charge drops to 94% and
when I quit the game the charging LED changes from green to orange... What's the deal?  (Sorry for my english, i'm italian ).

I've just bought a 17" MBP and I'm having the same issue, but in OSX and Linux just the same.  In one incident, my battery was running low so I plugged it in, but it still died about 10 minutes later because it continued to draw more power than the Magsafe plug could provide.  Needless to say, there was quite a bit of filesystem corruption from the sudden power loss.  That this is a common issue to 2011 MBPs does not magically make it "acceptable", especially when the fix consists of providing a more powerful charger.
For a $2500 laptop this is absolutely ridiculous.  If the thing draws 100w under peak usage, make a damned charger that provides 120w.  In the worst case, it will keep the computer running without unduly stressing the battery.  In the best case, it will charge the battery much faster.

  • I can't get any of my applications to open. I can't connect to my Wi fi and my MacBook Pro says it's not charging. It is 4 yrs old and I've taken it in for repairs 3 times this year. Also was told my cd rom packed it in. Is it possible I need a new one?

Frustrated with my Mac book pro. It's 4 yrs old and I've taken it in 3 times this year for different issues. Just last week they said my Cd Rom has packed it in. As of this week, I can't connect to wifi or get any of my applications to respond. Also won't hold a charge :(.  Is it possible I need a new one? I paid 2200.00 for thus one. Seems like it should last longer than that. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You would do better to ask in the Mac Forum - this is the iPad forum.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15 inch not charging

Plugged in my laptop this morning and it refuses to charge. Have checked the transformer to wall section and it's working fine, not sure what to do now.
    Is this a common problem?
Really urgent because I use it for work, can't get an appointment at the Genius Bar until Sunday.

I fear if you can't fix it there, we can't fix it from here...
    This might help.
You may also see if an AASP is perhaps nearer and faster than the Genius Bar.
Other than that, you can only try finding out what it is, the charger or the Mac, by seeing if you can try your charger with another Mac, or your Mac with another charger, so then you'll be at least prepared when heading to the Genius Bar. Friends? Family? Neighbors?

  • Macbook Pro 13" (2010) will not charge

    Hey!
My chargers don't turn yellow when I plug it in. It doesn't light up at all.
    All help would be appriciated

Have you tried different outlets with the same behavior?
If it is charged now, what is the stae of the battery, apple menu, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power and then the battery condition, charge cycle count, capacity, and under AC does it say anything about the charger?

  • Connecting kurzweil sp88 to GB I want to connect my Kurzweil sp88 to GB. The Kurzweil has a baffling array of buttons and possible MIDI channels. It also has the old style MIDI plug ins. I've got the MIDI out connected to my MacBook Pro via USB adapter.

I have my Kurzweil connected to my MacBook Pro via an adapter (old style MIDI from Kurzweil to USB adapter connecting to Mac). The Kurzweil has a baffling array of buttons and possible MIDI channels. Can anyone please tell me which of the channels I should use? Also, should I leave the MIDI In cable out of the Kurzweil? Thanks for as detailed an answer as possible. If you like you can respond directly to me at [email protected]

First of all I do not own this keyboard. But a quick look at the manual (found on the internet) says that when first powered up the SP88 is in Internal Sounds mode. Meaning you hear the sounds selected when playing the keyboard. It also stated that the default Midi Transmit Channel is Midi Channel #1.
Looks like you would need to go to the SP88 Keyboard's MIDI SETUP and simply select LOCAL OFF. Now the keyboard should be ready to transmit Midi Out only and no internal sounds should be heard.
Next you may or may not need to do this but you might need to go into the Utilities Folder found in your Applications Folder on your Mac and double click AUDIO MIDI SETUP the keyboard Icon. Figure #1 below.
Next you need to make a physical connection from the Midi Out of the SP88 to the Midi In on your Midi Interface. Figure #3 below. You may need to Click on Add Device first. Figure #2 below.
In the examples shown below I have a Yamaha Electronic Drum Kit that is Midi Out only... not USB out. I had to plug a Midi cable from the Midi Out Port on the back of my Drum Module to the Midi In Port on the back of my Motu 828 Audio Inferface which is connected to my Mac. Next I created the Audio Interface and Drum Module "Devices" as mentioned above.
I then double clicked on the Drum Module and made my Midi Out Selections. Figure #4 Below. And once it was setup and the icons closed I used my mouse to draw a virtual cable connection from the Drum Module Out to the Audio Interface In. Figure #3 below. This is how I got my Midi Devices to talk to one another.
Once you have made your setup as I have outlined create a MIDI Instrument Track in Garageband, select an instrument for example a Piano then Record Enable that track in Garageband and see if you now hear what you are playing. In this example the SP88 is a Midi Controller only and you will only hear sounds selected in Garageband which is what you want.
Keep in midi your setup may be different than mine. You can keep your SP88 Keyboard on the default Midi Channel #1. That would be a good place to start. Garageband receives Midi on all channels.
