MacBook Pro Address Book

I opened my address book today and it was empty except my card and Apples card. I went to ".Mac" and hoped the backup would restore it. It too looks empty. What could cause this and how can I restore all of the info?
Thanks,
Lazair64

Welcome to the discussions, Lazair64.
I don't know what causes it (though I suspect it is related to synchronising) but this sometimes helps:
Quit Address Book. In folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook drag file AddressBook.data to the desktop. Rename AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data and restart AB. If your contacts are back shout "Hallelulia". If not, quit AB again and repeat the drag/rename process, this time with AddressBook.data.beforesave.
If you get your contacts back, now is probably a good time to use the AB menu item File/Back up Address Book.

  • I cannot sync my MacBook Pro address book (Mac OS X Version 10.5.8) with my iPad that has iCloud. Please help.

I cannot sync my MacBook Pro address book (Mac OS X Version 10.5.8) with my iPad, that has iCloud. I can get my music and photos to sync, but not my address book or calendar. I have tried turning off iCloud, but that does not work. Please help.

You may install Snow Leopard OS, maximize the RAM to 8 GB and install a larger HDD, or spend a lot of money and install a SSD.

Any thoughts. No other issues also with calendar synchs, etc.

How does one merge the contents of my verizon iphone contact list and my macbook address book and my yahoo contact list and have ongoing syncing without mobile me? thanks

THANK YOU! I have been using companion link up until you posted this. This makes it so much easier to keep my business contacts on my phone. Much faster too! I use the Exchange Server so I'm hoping by doing this, my contacts will be synced via wireless. I'll let you know if it works. Thanks again for the great post.

  • Importing iphone contacts to new macbook air address book

I haven't discovered a way to get all my iphone contacts onto my macbook air address book - can anyone advise how this can be done?

What you want to do is first be very careful when following these steps, and second, make sure your iPhone has been synced with the computer it was set up with originally so it makes a backup of the data.
To force the iPhone to back up, plug it into the computer it was synced with originally, right click on the iPhone from the list, and select Back Up.
Once you have backed up your iPhone data, follow these next steps -- it can be scary, but you'll be fine, that's why you backed up before hand:
*First off, you want the contacts to be locally on the phone, not on an exchange server or mobileme, etc, to do this follow these steps:*
    1) In your iPhone settings, go to mail contacts calendars, select the account that has your contacts, slide the bar for contacts OFF.
    2) A dialog will come up asking if you want to delete the contacts from the iPhone, and you choose NO.
That step will copy the contacts from your exchange or mobileme server locally onto the iPhone.
*Secondly you will then sync it with the new Air by following these steps:*
    1) Plug the iPhone into the Air, and when it asks to erase and sync choose no.
    2) Go to the Info tab and select the checkbox for Sync Address Book Contacts -- DON'T CHOOSE ANY OPTIONS NEAR THE BOTTOM THAT SAY TO REPLACE INFO ON THE DEVICE.
    3) Click Sync, and allow the info to sync. It may give an option to Merge or replace, make sure to press Merge.
*Once you're done syncing again, you can re-enable the contact syncing again:*
    1) Go back to the settings on your iPhone/iPad, and mail, contacts, calendars, then to the account you turned off the contact syncing on. Turn the contact syncing on again, this time since you just want what's on the server, choose to delete the contacts from the device. You can also choose to merge the contacts if there's stuff you had on the Air that you wanted back on the exchange server.
    Enjoy!
Oh and these steps work for calendar information as well.

  • My Mac Book Pro address book has multiple addresses and when I try to "look for duplicates" it says there are none?

My Mac Book Pro Address Book has multiple addresses for the same person from syncing before I cloud. When I try to "look for duplicates" it returns "no duplicates found" why does that happen? How can I correct it?

For which version of Mail and OS?

  • How do I transfer my iPhone 4S contacts to my MacBook Pro Adress Book?

What I Want: I want to sync my iPhone 4S contacts into the Address Book on my MacBook Pro.
Problem: Everything else syncs fine, but my contacts.
I have everything under iCloud turned On to sync onto my MacBook Pro, but it doesn't sync the contacts into the Address Book, or at all for that matter.
When I go into System Preferences, then try to choose iCloud(which is not there), I select MobileMe. I never remembered signing up for MobileMe before, but I still tried my icloud username/password with no luck. This is where it's weird. I restarted my laptop, click on MobileMe again and it had me logged in, except I get this error "An error was returned from the server" and I can't choose what to sync because it's all grayed out and unchecked. Does anyone know how to fix this?
P.S. Both devices are fully updated, latest OS and I just did a backup/sync with iTunes a few minutes ago, but same result. I tried it over the WiFi and hardwired.

I would sign out again, then update your Mac (latest version, not 10.7.3 as shown in your signature), open "Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and then choose iCloud and sign in again. I would also do the same on your iOS device (sign out and in). Make sure to confirm the message when you will be asked to merge the contacts with iCloud.

  • Transfer macbook pro addresses to ipad?

I've been told that I can transfer my address book and calendar from MacBook Pro (10.6.8) to my iPad (6.1.2), but I've had no luck so far. When I go to itunes, it tells me that calendar and contacts are being transferred by air with icloud. I don't have icloud on my MacBook, and the items that are being transferred are facebook type things or contacts from facebook. What do I need to do?

Getting closer is great and being able to sync the password across devices says that you're almost there. Yes, you will need to upgrade to at least 10.7 for the iCloud sync to work like you're looking for it to. Don't allow the past issues of others to discourage you from doing this. You have to understand that there are millions of Apple device users in the world and just a small hand full occasionally have issues. Moving to 10.7 should resolve all of this. HAVE FAITH!! lol
If you decide not to upgrade to 10.7, you can try the following as I know of a few people who have done this successfully.
Open iCal in Snow Leopard (if is up to date, it should be Version 4.0.4 (1395.7).
Select 'Preferences' from the iCal Menu.
    Go to the Accounts tab.
Click the + sign to add a new account.
Select the 'CalDAV' option under the Account type.
Enter your 'User name' which is your iCloud .me email address.
    Enter your iCloud 'Password'.
Now comes the tricky part; the 'Server address'. See below.
It will be of the form pXX-caldav.icloud.com (the XX would be numbers of the dedicated server). I was able to determine this value by sending an invite to another one of my other email accounts and clicking the 'Accept' button. This will open the reply in a web browser. If you look at the long URL, at the end there is a pXX value and that's the dedicated server.
Once that is done, the calendar will show up iCal. However, a few minor updates will need to be done so that it behaves just like in Lion's iCal.
Click the 'Server Settings' tab for your new calendar and update the 'Server address' with your pXX-caldav.icloud.com.
Next you need to update the 'Server path'. The way that it was configured is based on the MobileMe configuration and it needs to be updated to the iCloud. The value that MobileMe has is/principals/users/1.XXXXXXXXXX/ (The XXXXXXX is the dedicated number for your account. Update the path to /XXXXXXXXXX/principal/.
Update the 'Port' to 443 and select the 'Use SSL' option if is not selected.
Restart iCal in Snow Leopard. The Calendar will refresh.

  • Syncing new iphone my contacts disappeared from my Mac pro address book? How to replace?

I am missing my contacts from Address Book on my MacBook Pro after syncing with new iPhone 4. Address are still auto-filling from Mail addressing. How do I get Addresses back into Address book?

If you have disabled the iOS device due to the passcode lockout, there is no option but to restore via the recovery mode...which resets the device to factory condition.  If there is no backup available there just isn't anything you can do.

  • Need a real expert...I can't sync macbook air address book to iphone

    running 10.7.5
    1.  I have an Address Book in my MacbookAir Dock and it has a lot of contacts in it.
    2.  Tryed to sync them to my iphone going through normal steps and no contacts transfer to iphone.
    3.  Tried to do it manually...in MacbookAir I went to:    finder / home / application support / (BUT...no Address Book in there)
    4.  Went to a backup disc and found an Address Book file in Application Support of my backup....tried to copy it and a pop-up said I'm "not authorized" to make this copy.
    Any help would be appreciated...Ken

modular747...I appreciate your help...but before I wrote my inquiry I did the 'normal syncing steps' and nothing happened.
    1.  Opened up my iTunes on my macbook.
    2.  Plugged my phone into my macbook.
    3.  In iTunes (on my Macbook):   Found my iphone/device in my iTunes on my macbook and clicked on it.
    4.  In iTunes (on my Macbook):   Clicked on Info in iTunes
    5.  In iTunes (on my Macbook):   Clicked on Sync Contacts....then clicked on Sync.
    6.  My macbook went through a short process like it downloaded contacts but when I open up contacts on my iPhone there are no contacts.
These are the 'normal steps' that I had already done.....if I'm clueless let me know.
    Thanks....Ken

  • Sync'ing iPhone Contacts with MacBook's Address Book

Hey folks, just bought my first Mac which has an empty address book and I am just wondering if it is possible to transfer my iPhones contact list with the Mac's address book.
And then if and when I make any changes or additions to either then they will sync when my iPhone is plugged into iTunes?
Also, similar question with my iPhone callender and iCal?
    Thanks in advance,
    James

Hi! I have a similar problem, which happens quite often because I usually charge my iPhone 4 by connecting it to MacBook and at the same time the synchronization is done.
If I edit my contacts in Mac's address book, there's no problem, the sync will work. But if I edit my existing contact on the phone, for example by adding a number, changing any data or adding a custom info type, these will be lost after the second sync with MacBook. It's probably because during the first sync the data is not updated in Mac's address book and then in the second one the contact card from Mac is transferred back to the iPhone.
    Any remedy to that?

All I'm trying to do is Sync my contacts from my iPhone (3Gs - iOS4) to my new MacBook Pro Address Book - how do I go about doing this? It seems like something should of popped up and asked me to merge them, but it didn't..

Is your new MacBook Pro the Mac that's controlling your iPhone? If not, that's the first thing you need to fix. Then plug in your iPhone to the Mac, launch iTunes if it doesn't already launch, select your iPhone under "Devices" on the left, then click on the "Info" tab. That's where you'll find sync settings for Address Book.
