This applies to the new (late 2008) MacBook Pro with the aluminum unibody enclosure
I've seen several people report this problem, but also I've seen threads about this problem wrongly conflated with other problems. The other threads include:

This thread is specifically about the problem typified as follows:
- This is an electrical tingling. It is not a painful shock or zap. It is most noticeable when brushing against the aluminum surface of the Mac.
- This only occurs when plugged in using the 2-prong adaptor, not when using the 3 prong, not when running on battery (not plugged in).
- It does not always occur. It seems to happen when plugged in with the 2-prong adaptor for an extended period like overnight.
- This is not a physical vibration, and has no audible component.
- I have verified that the outlet is wired properly: correct polarity, effective grounding, correct voltage, neutral does not appear to be floating
Here is my story of trying to get this fixed so far:
1. Call #1 to Apple Support
- They told me they had never heard of this problem before
- They said I should reset the SMC (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411). This strikes me as a simple if-all-else-fails-reboot solution. Not sure how a firmware reset will affect a hardware problem
- They then said they have seen this problem before and it is caused by faulty wiring. (yes, contradicts the first statement). This too seems like a cop out. I'll have to check it out though.
2. Call #2 to Apple Support
- "It says here you are hearing some sort of vibration" (aaaaaarg....no!)
- We recommend using the 3 prong adaptor
- You should bring in the machine to an Apple store to be fixed. Yes this is a known problem and we have a solution. I made an appointment to bring it in.
- I asked for a reference for this known problem and was told "CP 191"
3. Trip to see the "genius" at the Apple Store
- The genius starts out by telling me, " Sure, I've heard of other Macs doing this. I once had an old MacBook that did this."
- He then goes in the back with the machine to "test it"
- He comes out and says he was unable to duplicate the problem. This is not a surprise since it takes hours for it to manifest.
- He then proceeds to tell me that when it is ungrounded (such as using the 3 prong), then this is expected.
I am stunned. Thereafter ensues a long conversation of him trying to convince me that it is not a defect that this laptop, when used with factory supplied 2-prong adaptor, exhibits an electrical charge shocking the user. Some of his arguments:
- it's a complicated piece of power using machinery, like a car. To which I replied that if I had a car that shocked me when I tuned the radio, I would demand it be fixed.
- I asked him for Apple documentation that states that this is the expected behavior. All he could produce was documentation recommending that 3 prong adaptor be used when possible.
- He told me that all laptops are grounded through their cases. I said fine, but a properly functioning laptop would not need to shed excess voltage such that the user can feel it.
- It's just static electricity that builds up on this case
- You can place a shield or protector over the aluminum palm rest.
He told me that since we were past the 14 day window, he could not replace the laptop. I asked if it made a difference that the ticket was opened in the first 14 days and he said no. I asked if I could get just a replacement power brick to see if that made a difference. He replied that they did not have those parts available.
After arguing for over an hour, and it being clear that I was not going to just leave, he finally brought the manager over. She asked what I wanted and I reiterated that all I wanted was for the laptop to be repaired or replaced. She agreed to replace it, but...
- Since it was bought online it would need to be sent back (could not be replaced in the store). It would take 7-10 days
- They would not assist in any way in backing up or transferring the data. We would lose everything n the drive (as it was being replaced). I could not keep the old drive and just send the computer back
- The new one might also exhibit the problem. One of geniuses volunteered that he was sure it would. (IMO, if true, this simply means that the model is defectively designed)

Unfortunately, I went through the same thing. I do believe my issue was different, though (vibration).
I received contradictory information from 4 or 5 Apple reps over the phone, the Apple retail store refused to repair/replace the machine, and I was told that I may have to pay for labour if I took it to a reseller (obviously incorrect). In the end, I just returned the **** thing and bought a Macbook in-store. With the money I saved, I'm going to build a desktop PC with twice the power.
In my opinion, the service was much worse than the defective machine. I came very close to not buying another mac...

    Just an adapter to change the US plug style to the one in the country you are going to. The AC charger will do the rest. It is rated for 120-240 volts and will adjust on  its own.

    This is the second time I've encountered this issue with Time Capsule using Time Machine automatic backup. I haven't found the following specific error message in the list of troubleshooting issues: "Time Capsule cannot complete the backup. The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/MacBook Pro.sparsebundle” is already in use."
    I'm not certain what causes this issue. I think it may have something to do with having to force shutdown with apps still open when the beachball hangs and the MacBook has to be rebooted.
    Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

    The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    It is not safe to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
    1a. If you don't own another Mac
    If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
    If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
    To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
    If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    Some models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you may not be able to reinstall 10.6 even from the original discs, and Internet Recovery may not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
    1b. If you do own another Mac
    If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    2. Partition and install OS X
    If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
    Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In thePartition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
    After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
    Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
    3. Other issues
    If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
    If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
    When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information.

    You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
    Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)

    Far as your Safari problem do these things until it's resolved:
    1: Software Update fully under the Apple menu.
    2: Check the status of your plug-ins and update (works for all browsers) also install Firefox and see if your problems continue. You should always have at least two browsers on the machine just in case one fails.

    After looking at a few of the links I found a mathematical equation that assisted me.
    Inches = Pixels/DPI
    eg: 3 inches = 300 pixels/100 DPI
    Using this equation and the fact that iPhone 4s takes photos that are 3264 x 2448 I was able to work out the largest print I could make with 300 DPI.
    Width 3264 pix/ 300 DPI = 10.88 inches
    Height 2448 pix/ 300 DPI = 8.16 inches
    Therefore, the largest print (with 300DPI) I can make of these photos is 10.88 inches x 8.16 inches.
    Which is great!
    So is it critical for me to change the dpi in say photoshop or does it not matter as long as I don't go above the 10.88 inches x 8.16 inches?
    From what I can gather the smaller I resize the photo the higher the DPI and the bigger I stretch the photo the lower the DPI?

    Yes, it should work with a mini-displayport to VGA adapter.  Since a 12wx also can take DVI you could use a mini-displayport to DVI adapter instead.  Why go analog when you can keep it in digital!
    I guess the usb is for the pen.

    Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
    If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
    and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.

    I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant from my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.  It keeps saying that I only have 2 devices setup, my iPad and my macbook pro.  When I mess with the setting on my mac mini, it goes from saying that that is one of the devices to my macbook pro being the 2nd device.  I think that something happened as a result of my using the migration assistant and now it thinks that my macbook pro and my mac mini are one and the same computer.  Any ideas?

    The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
    In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem.  Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page.  Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
    If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them. 
    (I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

    Logging into itunes store on each machine wth different Apple IDs is OK Autorising each others machines with the other Apple ID is OK. This is completley separate from Home Sharing
    For Home Sharing to work you need to
    File > Home Sharing > Create Home Share.
    You need to select one of the two Apple IDs you are using and ENTER THIS ON BOTH MACHINES WHEN CREATING THE HOME SHARE.
    Home sharing will then work

    The mac help is: Finder window/Help/Mac Help. It provides answers to a lot of common questions, including file sharing.
    As for the ethernet cable, you can either buy another one (inexpensive and available in many places including Walmart), or just unplug it from your modem temporarily and plug it back in when you're done.
    As for Target disk mode, take a look at this Apple article:

    As I mentioned, I prefer using the ethernet/file sharing method if I need to copy a lot of files; however, there is another way around if you have an external drive and just want to copy one or two files. Just plug the external into one computer, copy the file onto it, unplug, plug into the other computer and copy.

    You need a Firewire cable to run between the two Macs.  Using Utility>Migration Assistant running on your new MacBook Pro, transfer what you want (with all the preferences and such) from your MacBook to your MBP.  Here's more info from Apple.
    You might have an issue with the Serial number for Office, but hopefully you have that around.
