MacBook Pro and aluminium MacBook power query...

Hi Guys,
I have a 15in MacBook Pro and my wife has a 13in aluminium MacBook. The power supplies are rated differently but is there one that will charge both? For example will her power adaptor charge mine safely?
We're trying to reduce the clutter on our desk, so one less power cable would be welcome!
Cheers for any help!
HNY

Hiya,
there is a *firmware update* for older macbooks; if your wife has not got the 2007/8 one, have a look on this *general LIST* . This then enables you to use the new power adapter on both machines.
Do ensure to read all documentation prior to installing the firmware update if you need it (the notes will be attached to each relevant download).
Hope that helps.

Read the MacBook Pro User Guide that came with your Mac.
"Cleaning your MacBook Pro When cleaning the outside of your MacBook Pro and itscomponents, first shut down your MacBook Pro and unplug the power adapter. Thenuse a damp, soft, lint-free cloth to clean the computer’s exterior. Avoid gettingmoisture in any openings. Do not spray liquid directly on the computer. Do not useaerosol sprays, solvents, or abrasives that might damage the finish.

  • Office 365 Excel Power Query Preview Problem Signing In -- Appears Corrupted, Please Repair

The image below shows that Excel "thinks" I'm signed in with an organizational account that has Power BI Preview, yet Power Query from Excel doesn't think I'm signed in and says it's corrupted when I try to sign in.  I was trying to use the
online search to find the odata feed that I have set up for Office 365 Power BI Preview.  So, alternatively, when I go to other data sources and specify the odata feed that is set up properly and available, Microsoft says "access forbidden".
Clearly, account credentials aren't being passed correctly.  I have read other posts on this forum and have verified that I have the latest Power Query Preview, that I only use lower case letters to sign in, that IE cache is clear.  I have repaired,
uninstalled and re-installed Power Query Preview multiple times, with no change in this behavior.
    Any ideas?
    Neil

Zarar, yes, tried that, and much more.
Even though Power BI is supposed to navigate through firewalls, I believe we are having firewall problems.
I need to ask our network people to open up for Microsoft on this one, but there's no good information out there on the sites/IPs required to make Power BI Preview work.
In addition, the complexity that comes with using domain credentials, Microsoft Account (live) credentials, and Organizational credentials (O365) on the same computer at various times of the day complicates matters.
That said, I can take my machine to my home network and get as far as attempting to connect to the odata feed I set up -- except the data source is on a computer with an internal IP and Power Query cannot resolve the local computer name -- i.e. x.x.local.
So now, I have two questions:
    1. What IPs need to be unblocked to make Power BI work?
    2. Is there a way to get the odata feed to work when the datasource is on an internal network (the datasource is working and tests okay from Power BI Admin -- but does not resolve the machine name when coming in through Excel via the odata feed from an off-site
    location

  • Refresh Pivot Bug in Power Query version 2.16.3822.242

I have an Excel file with Power Query and several Pivot Tables built from the Power Query data. The Pivots are built from the table loaded to a worksheet, and there is a timeline date slicer connected to all those various Pivot Tables.
In build 2.16.3822.242, refreshing the Pivot Table (either by right-click/Refresh, or programmatically via macro) causes the date timeline slicer to disappear (literally be deleted from the sheet).  The Pivot Refresh succeeds fine.
This does not occur when using Power Query Version: 2.16.3785.242. So for the time being, my only workaround is to avoid installing the newer build.
Any ideas what's causing it?  I told my coworker (the primary user of the file) that she could still use the file and go filter every pivot's date range separately, rather than the slicer, but that is laborious and for now she is just going to remote-desktop
into a computer that doesn't have build 3822 installed yet.

Hey Ed, I apologize for un-proposing your answer so quick, I was on my Windows Phone but the forum loading spinner wouldn't leave the text entry field, so I couldn't input a reply until I got home.
I actually found a solution just today. This may not be the 'only' solution, but it worked well.  When I had previously thought I had a solution, it only 'worked' because my subsequent refresh after making the table change didn't add any new rows of
data (all the rows it would have returned that day were already there).  Today I made the change and then refreshed, and the new rows were formatted as the Power Query intended them to be.
The settings I used were to set the table to "do not preserve formatting" and to "overwrite existing cells for new data, clear unused cells". Now my inserted Power Query table is plain white (no banded lines or colors), but I don't care
because it's on a hidden sheet that no one will ever see.
Here's the table settings that seemed to work well for me.
And to be honest (although I haven't extensively tested), I think this was only a problem if the table was created using an old version of Power Query, then refreshed with the new version.  Anyway, now I can easily refresh my Query and then the Pivot
    from it without trouble.
And since I suck at brevity:  I also think it'd be beneficial for me to re-create these workbooks and have the Power Query only add the data to the data model, and source the Pivot directly from that, rather than indirectly source the pivot from a populated
table. Basically save a step, and then the Pivot will refresh together with the connection, rather than having to be refreshed separately after the query is done.
In any case, I'm loving this tool and I'm practically a Power Query evangelist to every other department, because it empowers the knowledge worker to investigate data without waiting weeks for a DBA to have time to write a query and send results.  Plus
we power this awesome real-time performance dashboard showing live KPIs of 15 metrics, and ditched our Domo.com account, saving upwards of 100k per year, just by using Power Query. Using nothing but plain Excel and Power Query, it publishes the graphics to
our intranet and TVs around the builds live all day. It's amazing.

  • Login details in Power Query

    Hi all -
How can we get the details of login user dynamically in power query advanced editor.
Here is the scenario that I'm trying to solve.
I have the list of employees and their details extracted from a database and published thru power query. I will share the query with all the employees that I have extracted. Now I want the employee to see his/her specific details only when they login and
run the query that I shared.
We can add a filter to our query in the advanced query editor, but the filter value should be  the logged on user. I need to know how can we get the logged on user details in the power query advanced editor.
    Thanks for the help,
    Deva.

I'm sure you're well aware of the requirement, but can I add my vote for a function that returns the Windows username of the person currently running the query? It would be very useful...

  • Power Query Cannot Connect to NAV Database

I can access the NAV database and get data by PowerPivot, however when I connect to NAV database with Power Query and enter my user name and password.  Power Query will pops out error message "The User Was Not Authorized".  But my account
works fine in powerPivot.  Can anyone provide me some help please?

In Power Query, there are usually different types of credentials that you can choose on the left side of the dialog. Are you sure you've chosen the right type of credentials (ie. SQL auth vs Windows auth)?

  • Can't get my head around Power Query Append

I have 1 spreadsheet with 6 almost identical tabs. I have added each one to PowerQuery and pre-processed it.  The result of these 6 queries are 6 identical tables.  Now I want to combine them into a single table an import into my data model.
I see there are 2 approaches but neither are intuitive to me. I just want a single query that I select "import to data model" that will append all the data from the other 6 queries.
Can someone give me a step by step guide?  All the sites I have looked at tell me how to combine 2 queries but I can't seem to scale the concept.
I realise this seems like a really dumb question - sorry in advance.
With hind site, I think I could use this approach
    datapigtechnologies.com/blog/index.php/using-power-query-to-combine-data-from-multiple-excel-files-into-one-table/
I will probably do that anyway.
But I would still appreciate some guidance on the best way to append my 6 tables into 1.

    Hi Mally,
Thanks for the feedback. Besides typing in the formula as Chris, Curt and Faisal mentioned, you could also apply Append Queries operations to append tables one by one. Note that if you launch "Append Queries" from the Power Query ribbon tab you will get
a new query every time, but if you do it from the Query Editor dialog ribbon, Power Query adds every Append operation as a new step within the current query.
We are well aware that this 1-by-1 append operation is a shortcoming in the Power Query UX and have plans to address it by letting users add more than one query (i.e. more than one dropdown) in the Append Queries dialog, which will effectively generate a
similar formula to what others on this thread have proposed.
We still don't have details on the timeline for the availability of this improvement to Append Queries, but I wanted to let you know that we are planning to address it.
Thanks for your feedback and for using Power Query.
    Regards,
    M.

Sometimes you have to reset the SMC two or three times for it to work, don't know why. I've seen that error message before and 100% of the time it was fixed with an SMC reset. I suppose it's possible that your keyboard or mouse IS drawing too much power, do you have access to another you could try?

    Sulapeace,
for how long has your MacBook Pro been recharging? Has the light on your MagSafe connector changed color since you’d started recharging it? What do your battery level indicator lights show when you press the button next to them?

My sister spoiled water into my macbook pro and the power went off in two seconds. I took off the cover and dried the water with tissues. Still it doesnt work. What do i do?

Do you mean when the water was spilled on it, it shut down?  That would indicate a major internal short occured.
Really, I'd say you need to take it into Apple or an Apple authorized repair center and get it looked at.  Odds are you've got a significantly damaged device that will require professional repair and parts replacement to get working again.

After installing Mavericks my MacBook Pro and my MacMini can't shut down, only a grey screen and finish. Must be killed by the power button. Why?

same here...  sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't!!

  • My MacBook Pro shut it self down and will not power up

It shut itself down and will not power up. Battery was charged

I have (had) a brand new late2013 13" MacBook Pro that my wife and I really splurged on. It had the 512 gb (over 500, I know that) SSD hard drive, improved processor, and chose to stick with 8 gb of ram. In other words, we dropped close to $2000 on that notebook.
Within a week, it started doing what you are explaining. In fact, during one of the forced shutdowns, I was prompted to send an error message to apple. My wife wanted nothing to do with it, but I chose to anyway. Thankfully I did. When I couldn't take the frustrating shutdowns anymore I took it to the apple store.
AWESOME PEOPLE!!!! Granted I have been a PC guy my whole life. That started to change with my first really thick iPod in 2002. Slowly, the iPad and Apple TV made appearances in my house. My wife (an artist) then came in the picture and I am now and have been an apple guy, w/o the window sticker of course. My interaction with the apple store workers only increased my stoke.
SEND ERROR MESSAGES TO APPLE IF PROMPTED TO DO SO.
As I said, I went against wife and sent one to apple. The apple tech was able to figure out what was wrong immediately considering a copy was kept on my MBP, and because it was day 30 (really was) since purchase, he switched out with BRAND NEW UNIT! No refurb, no hassle!
All was fine until it did it again. Basically, if my computer sat on but was idle, it would go to sleep as we had instructed it to do in the energy savings preference page. Normally, to reawaken MBP, all we needed to do was tap space bar.
Like the first one we traded in, no luck. We would actually have to try and power up with power button, and even the apple techs found it frustrating as we had. Thankfully it did it in front of them as well.
Now is the kicker. Our contact felt incredibly bad, along with store manager, that this was now the third visit we have had to make involving a brand new computer. The manager wanted to make it up to us. I feel like her solution went so far beyond my expectations, I will never own another brand again.
She took all of our merchandise we bought for the 13" MBP, (bag, 12 south vertical stand, etc) and let us pick what ever replacements we wanted for the 15" MBP she was giving us. YEP, A 15"!
due to the fact that we specifically purchased the larger SSD in the 13", the entry level 15" did not offer the larger SSD drive. That saint of a manager moved us into the quad core, I7 with 16gb of ram!!! The only stipulation is that we pay for the apple care. When I thought it was truly over, she had one last surprise and charged only the difference between the apple care prices.
Good things happen to everyone else, always. Happy to report I finally had my turn.
I am not saying you will make out as well as I did, but if it is shutting down, especially in the first 30 days of ownership, send every report to apple it asks you to (for ease of retrieval by Mac employee) and trust they will do right by you. New computers should not shutoff for no reason, and the great thing is, they agree!
Considering my initial purchase for my 13" MBP came to around (off my head $1850 with apple care).
I now own the very high end $2599.00 15" because the SSD hd was comparable to mine.
I can't stress this part enough. I NEVER ONCE RAISED MY VOICE! I was a little upset but never complained once. I was completely understanding and never asked for anything above getting the first computer I paid for to work properly.
THANK YOU APPLE!!!!!THANK YOU APPLE!!!!! THANK YOU APPLE!!!!!
Bring your faulty computer in, send all error messages to apple, and most importantly remember that the young 22yr old standing in front of you there didn't build it. It's not his fault. Work with him with respect and apples philosophy will shine brightly.
FWIW, all of the service techs I spoke with at the Genius Bar are very aware of this situation and all feel an update is headed down the pipeline soon.
    Good luck all!
