MacBook Pro and Dell N5010 Ram Swap?

Hi guys I don't know much about this subject so any help would be great.
I have a Macbook Pro 13 inch with Lion, 4GB of Ram which is basically the early 2011 model
and my mom wanted to buy a laptop so she bought a Dell N5010 with Windows 7 and 8GB of ram.
I looked up my type of ram and its DDR3 which is also the same type my moms Dell uses, thing is she doesn't need that much ram since all she does is email, surf the web, and things like that. So, I asked her if she was ok with me switching the ram with each other and she said it was fine with her.
My question is if this is possible? I know that if we change enough components on a desktop, Windows won't recognize the system and have us reactivate/ reinstall it but since its just a ram swap will there be any complications?
The extra ram would be great since I'm always rendering our home movies and (attempting) to make iOS games on my Macbook Pro, rather than just surfing the web and whatnot.
Thanks for any help guys!!

if they are ddr3 and support the same pins, I don't see why it would hurt to try. who made your mom's ram? if it's samsung, you're almost golden as long as the pins match. When you have both sticks out, compare their connectors (the gold part along the edge) and see if they match exactly.
Having said that, I would look up the make and model and google the model of the ram (comany name ddr3) and macbookpro.

  • Problems w/ MacBook Pro and Dell 2155 cdn

I am having issues with a mid-2010 MacBook Pro (10.8.5) and a networked Dell 2155cdn printer/photocopier/fax/scanner.  Driver is  Dell 2155cdn Color MFP v1.5 downloaded from Dell support (also tried v1.4).
Connectivity is fine, not a network issue. I can print a test page. When I print to this printer– from any application, say TextEdit– I get the usual osx dialog box. However, when I click "Print" from said dialog box, instead of the print job going to the queue, I get another dialog box to set up for sending a fax.
I should mention that I have six other os-x boxes (10.7.5  to 10.9.1)– Mac Pros, IMacs a mini, and 2 Airs– in the house that are connected to this printer, either via a "shared printer" or networked directly to the printer, and I have never had this particular problem with any of these machines. (I have had lots of other issues with this printer and would never recommend it for use w/ Macs.) I just want a click on "print" to print my job, pretty straight forward. I will never send a fax.
Given the above, I am thinking the problem lies hidden somewhere on my MacBook Pro. Can anybody set me straight here?

    Hello WxGuy,
It may help to reset the printing system and readd the printer that your MacBook Pro seems to think is a fax machine.

  • Setting up new printer with MacBook Pro AND Dell?

Need a printer, want an AIO, any work better than others with MacBook and Dell?  Purchased a HP Officejet 6500A Plus, any problems using both systems togehter?  Also, should I set up the Dell first then the Mac, or viceversa?

Thanks for the help, I'm definitely getting there
I changed the settings as you've described and can now print from my MBP. The 3 Dell laptops are another matter. Would you have any idea what the IP address of the printer would be? Or the AirPort Extreme? I'm following this tutorial:
    http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1004.html
without much success but I'm really guessing at the IP address. I've tried 192.168.1.1 (my router) and 192.168.1.101 (the IPv4 address) with no luck. I suspect it's the IP address that's the problem ...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

  • Where can i get a tool kit to open my macbook pro and install my RAM?

thanks for to ever helps me.

OWC / MacSales sells the tools you need, as well as memory that will work.
If you did not purchase your RAM from OWC, Crucial, or Apple, don't bother opening its case. You might as well return it right now because most manufacturers don't sell memory that meets Apple's stringent specifications.

  • Which Apple MacBook Pro has the most RAM and HDD memory?

I would like to know this because I plan on buying a MacBook Pro and I just want to make sure I'm buying the one with the most RAM and HDD memory and not some other one. Why do I need specifically this? Because I'm a gamer; I like playing games. I'm a watcher too; I like watching movies. Last but not least, I would like to sync my iPhone to a device that's from the same company. I don't know why, but I guess it's because I don't like uncoordination, or something like that. In short, I don't believe in "clashing". Even electronics.

The Hardware In Any Mac is Exactly the same as used in Any PC of like model year and included hardware. i7 being faster then an i5 CPU.
Apple uses the same exact Intel CPUs and Chipsets that all other computer use manfacturer today. There is No difference.
Ogelthorpe is comppletely correct that Windows, by nature of the OS, is better for running games and the hardware it comes on, by nature of the way they are manufactured even though it is the same hardware as in a Mac, is better for gaming because of the way they are cooled and the overall case design. More air vents and better air movement across the parts that get hot while gaming.
Mac notebooks on the other hand don't cool as well by nature of the air intake and exhaust systems. Both air intake and exhaust are at the screen hinge and the fans are designed to be quieter then on most Windows PC notebooks. Even if Windows is installed on Mac that Mac will run hotter then a PC with the same exact hardware configurations. This is a fact and experienced by many Mac users. Including myself.
Mac fans run all the time. From the second you start them up to the second they shut down completely. I personally don't know of any Windows PC notebook that do that. My Dell E6420 with the exact same CPU and more RAM, 16GBs in the Dell and 8 in my Mac, with the Dell having 2 drives, one a SSD the other a Spinner in the media bay, and the Mac having only one Seagate XT series in the main bay the Dell fans rarely come on unless I am taxing the system in some way. They are not on continuously and certainly not when I turn the system on. So Apple has designed the Mac to run the fans continuously to try and keep the system cool from the first power on.
So your statement is completely false. But it is what most people think even though it is unfounded.

This is not true. The hardware is simply better on a Mac. Even when running Windows on a Mac, you'll have a far better experience than on a PC..

instead of buying an Apple USB superdrive, is it safe to use third party usb optical drive ?
Not only would it be safe but less expensive as well.  The tray loaders are deemed to be the most reliable.  Apple does not support Blueray so avoid that.
    Ciao.

  • Can i take the ram from macbook pro and put it in mac mini?

Hey guys currently I have 8 gb of ram in my late 2011 mac macbook pro and was wondering if I could take it and put in into my new 2012 mac mini?  Thanks for the help?

Only if they use the same RAM. That means same specs. Your Mini requires faster RAM than is installed in the MBP. They are not interchangeable.

Im completely new to Mac. Im swapping my windows laptop for macbook pro and looking for network storage solution which the Time Capsule seems to do. Is it possible to use this as NAS for my desktop Windows PC - windows 7

Broadly speaking I want some sort of network storage( wireless or through my existing wifi router) that I can access files for both my windows PC and Macbook and also to access files to my iPad/ iPhone. Some sort of backup and sychronisation so that I can access certain files remotely.
Buy a real NAS.. synology or QNAP are the standard... although companies like Netgear and Western Digital and Seagate make them as well.
There is no problem sharing between Mac and PC now.. you do not even need a NAS to do that.. you simply share the hard disk directly. Mac talk SMB.. everything talks SMB nowadays.. so it is easy.
ipad and iphone are not designed to use NAS.. they are designed to backup only to the cloud or itunes.. but you can load an app like file browser if you want.
    http://www.stratospherix.com/products/filebrowser/
Remote access to the Apple TC is somewhere between difficult, to impossible from a PC.. Apple use BTMM and iCloud but the service is not offered to PC.
A real NAS will offer HTTPS or SFTP or several other methods.. that both Mac and PC can use.
You simply plug it into the current wireless router.. it is a network device and assessable over the network. It is not necessary to buy another router.. in fact that is a waste.

  • Why won't my macbook pro accept both 4gb Ram, It will only use a 4gb and a 2gb?

I have a mid 2009 2.6 Ghz 15" macbook pro, and recently purchased two samsund ddr3 4gb 1600hz 204 pin RAM. I removed my two 2gb standard Ram from my macbook pro, and inserted the two 4gb Ram. When I turned the computer one it began using its 3 beep sequence as if the Ram fail, so I removed one 4gb Ram and reinserted a 2gb Ram and the computer started. It said I had total 6 gb ram.  I am wonderind why It won't accept both of the 4gb Ram.

Exactly what Kappy and Stedman1 states.
The RAM you purchased is way out of specs for what you need.
Go and return or exchange them for either a set of Crucial, Corsair, Mushkin or Kingston (non value) RAM.
