MacBook Pro and Facebooks "New Design"

I know that I can't be the only one suffering from this, so I am going to lay it out there and hope that someone can help me.......
I have a MacBook Pro with a Mac OS X operating system, Version 10.5.8.  A few weeks ago Facebook foisted their "New Design" on me, which I wasn't even given the opportunity to switch to, or refuse.  It simply "whited out" my screen, leaving me NO options whatsoever, and just like that, I was stuck with it.
Suffice to say that I HATED, no LOATHED it from the very start, the freaking pictures in the News Feed are HUGE and frankly, the entire thing disgusts me.
However, be that as it may, I could probably live with all of that, but I soon discovered to my horror that no longer was I able to upload photos, or EVEN peruse them anymore.  It will take you through the regular menu to upload......but once you upload the photos, the freaking screen suddenly stars flickering, and all that's left of your download is the top and bottom portions of the upload screen.  All your photos are gone, although they sometime flicker back at you for an instant like some sort of spirit you'd see on Supernatural.  It *****!!!  I love to upload pics and share them and it's killing me.
And when I go to look at someone elses pics??  When I click on them, the screen locks up!!!!
Somebody help me!!!!!  Please!!!!
Er, forgive the outburst......but I'm ahhhhhh, slightly frustrated.  ;-)  Hehehehe.......

The new non-user-serviceable battery can easily and quickly be replaced at an Apple store, but if you don't have one nearby, that would be a headache. Of course if it lasts through 1000 charge cycles as advertised (and I'm sure that estimate presumes that you will care for it exactly as Apple recommends), it shouldn't need to be replaced any more often than about every three years, at the most.
I wouldn't be the least bit concerned about the drop in price reflecting a corresponding decrease in quality. There is nothing to suggest that. Across the entire computer industry, every hardware item and feature is more widely available and less expensive than it was a year ago, and far, far less expensive than it was ten years ago (if it was available at all back then). And at least in the Mac world, the computers just keep getting better and better.
In my view, you should think twice about buying one of the latest 15" MBPs only if you need the ExpressCard 34 slot that has been dropped from those models. Replacing it with an SD card reader was a thoroughly mystifying decision on Apple's part. Otherwise, the new machines look like world-beaters.

I have a very old (by computer standards) MacBook Pro, and a newer one.  I've been using the old one mostly for iTunes, into which I have only CD entries.  For a long time, years, the old MacBook pro ceased entering the song titles.  This is very time consuming for me, so I finally investigated a bit further.
I discovered how to enter the track titles onto my newer MacBook Pro, and was so pleased!  But when I tried to do the same with the other laptop, it failed.
What I did, basically, was what the Apple Help suggested--choose iTunes General Preferences, etc.etc.  And yes, I did upgrade the old laptop to the newest iTunes version.
Am I just wasting my time here? Is there some reason why an older Mac Pro will not do what the newer one will, with regard to iTunes?
My older laptop is a 2.6 GHz Core Duo; it has 36 GB of "memory available."  The newer one  a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7. It has 284 GB of memory available.
Both are using the same version of Snow Leopard--10.6.8.

Go to the iTunes Store, log into your account, and click the Purchases link under the Quick Links. From there you should be able to re-download some or all of your purchased content. Note that not all content has been licensed for re-downloading in all countries at this time. You can see what content you can download here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085
You can also re-download content using an iOS device.
    For full instructions, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
Or you can just copy the iTunes library from your old computer to your new one, if you still have the old computer and it's in working order.

  • Should i get the current MacBook Pro or the new design MacBook pro 2012?

    Dear all,
GImme some opinions which to choose? Should i wait for the supposedly new design MacBook Pro? or get the current models that hae pretty good specs? I'm doing college at the moment and my current laptop is 4yrs old in need of a new one and hopefully get the 17" MBP coz the specs seem amazing. I'm doing graphics and multimedia so i would need a laptop that can handle all those stuff and be fast. So gimme some ideas what you think abt the current MBP and the soon to come new models? which is something pretty doubtful.

Hold off the buying. The current unibody macs are the last of the generation. A geenration that's in it's 4th year.
You might want to consider upgrading your current hard drive only to an SSD if your mac supports it. You can then move this over to your new mac. That's what I have done, and the speed difference of an SSD makes it feel like a new machine.
I would also suggest you buy a 15" and not a 17" save your money. The 17 is loking carrying a surfboard around.

  • Why does MS Word 14.2.3 run so slow on MacBook Pro and brand new iMac?

Ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion, MS Word runs very slowly on both my 2007 MacBook Pro with 4GB RAM and a brand new iMac with 16GB RAM.
I have trimmed fonts  in the systems and removed font conflicts and duplicates.
Keyboard entries are delayed by seconds and typing a document becomes a nightmare.
    Any suggestions?
I have repaired permissions and verified both disks.
Also run Cocktail to clean out junk files. Still no luck.

Word is up to version 14.3.1. Try updating and see if that helps. The newest version may be more ML friendly. I certainly have no complaints about the speed of MS Word.
p.s. Just checked for updates - there is now a 14.3.2 version.

  • I got a MacBook Pro, and a new iPod touch and downloaded everything through my iCloud. but now when i try to do anything on my ipod from my macbook, it says ipod is hooked to another account, even though its the same one! what do i do

so what im exactly getting is 'the ipod "kira's ipod" is synched with another itunes library, do you want to erase this ipod and sync with this itunes library?'
annnndd ummm, its the same itunes account that im using, and im just trying to put 2 videos on to my ipod without erasing all of my music.
Everything in my MacBook has been downloaded through ICloud, and my IPod was set up from my grandmas desktop.. But its weird because i have had my IPod plugged in to my MacBook before, and downloaded music i believe, so i dont see why its doing it now... PLEASE HELP!
i just need to know what to do so i can start proving to my family that apple really is a good company who doesnt just try to rip people off...

    - You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
    - If y wnat to switch syncing libraries/computer see:
go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
If all the synced media like music is in the iTunes library of the second computer it is very easy.

  • I have a MacBook Pro and downloaded new operating system Maverick

I have a MacBook Pro with the leopard operating system. When the Maverick operating system was offered as a free download, I downloaded it but iphoto and imovie didn't download what should I do?

  • Difference between the 2012 Macbook Pro and the new Retina display Macbook Pro?

    Title says all!

Well really all the specs are posted in black and white on the Apple store website. They even have a Compare feature on the site.
I find it really odd that posts like your show up here every day. "Which Mac should I buy". I always want to reply "The one that fits your needs and you can afford".
Just how does anyone on this forum know what YOU need from a computer and what computer is best for YOU. You would be the only one that knows that after you read all the specs of the models you are thinking about buying and also go to one of the many Apple stores or resellers and physically look at and use them.

With Safari open use the Command + T keyboard shortcut to open a new tab.
Or, Command + N to open a new window.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Im completely new to Mac. Im swapping my windows laptop for macbook pro and looking for network storage solution which the Time Capsule seems to do. Is it possible to use this as NAS for my desktop Windows PC - windows 7

Im completely new to Mac. Im swapping my windows laptop for macbook pro and looking for network storage solution which the Time Capsule seems to do. Is it possible to use this as NAS for my desktop Windows PC - windows 7

Broadly speaking I want some sort of network storage( wireless or through my existing wifi router) that I can access files for both my windows PC and Macbook and also to access files to my iPad/ iPhone. Some sort of backup and sychronisation so that I can access certain files remotely.
Buy a real NAS.. synology or QNAP are the standard... although companies like Netgear and Western Digital and Seagate make them as well.
There is no problem sharing between Mac and PC now.. you do not even need a NAS to do that.. you simply share the hard disk directly. Mac talk SMB.. everything talks SMB nowadays.. so it is easy.
ipad and iphone are not designed to use NAS.. they are designed to backup only to the cloud or itunes.. but you can load an app like file browser if you want.
    http://www.stratospherix.com/products/filebrowser/
Remote access to the Apple TC is somewhere between difficult, to impossible from a PC.. Apple use BTMM and iCloud but the service is not offered to PC.
A real NAS will offer HTTPS or SFTP or several other methods.. that both Mac and PC can use.
You simply plug it into the current wireless router.. it is a network device and assessable over the network. It is not necessary to buy another router.. in fact that is a waste.

  • Just bought new macbook pro and can't get iPhone 4s data pics, music contacts etc to sync with new device, why?

i have an ipad, iphone, 13" macbook pro and mac mini all whihc run fine.
i bought new family macbook pro today but cant get my phone 4s to sync its data ie pics, music, contacts etc
    any hints please
    Jim

Transfer the contents from the old computer to a new computer. With a few exceptions, i-gadgets are designed to match the content of a device to the content on a computer, not really the other way around. You can move iTunes purchases from a device onto a computer, but no music obtained some other way.

Assuming your MBP is a recent model, i.e. bought in the last couple of years, and that your TV has HDMI inputs (if you've bought it new then that's a safe assumption) then you need a mini-displayport to HDMI cable.  The Apple Store sell one:

  • I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant and my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.

I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant from my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.  It keeps saying that I only have 2 devices setup, my iPad and my macbook pro.  When I mess with the setting on my mac mini, it goes from saying that that is one of the devices to my macbook pro being the 2nd device.  I think that something happened as a result of my using the migration assistant and now it thinks that my macbook pro and my mac mini are one and the same computer.  Any ideas?

    Thanks, Sig.
The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem.  Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page.  Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
(I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

I have a new macbook pro and just made a video on imovie and it asked me to put it on idvd but there is no idvd listed as an option. How can i get idvd. it doesn't seem available

Since Apple has stopped supporting and offering iDVD you'll need to purchase the iLIfe 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: iLife 11 which will include iDVD 7.
