Macbook Pro and Samsung monitor

I bought a Samsung 22inch monitor. It works for my old G4 with VGA analog, but if I hook my MBP to the monitor through DVI all I get is my screensaver on the monitor. I tried detect monitor and nothing happens. Any thoughts ?

The reason is that the second monitor has extended your desktop. It is extra space. If you haven't moved something to it, it's still empty. If you were to close the lid and then wake up the MacBook Pro, then everything would appear on the external monitor. Or if you went into your Displays preferences and dragged the little menu bar icon from one display icon to the other, your menu bar would move to the other monitor. Or you could turn on mirroring and both monitors would show the same thing.

  • MacBook Pro and Thunderbolt Monitor

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro and a Thunderbolt Monitor. The Lion and the Windows7 operating systems are installed.
    My questions are:
    1. Why I can't use the Thunderbolt display if I don't connect the MagSafe power which comes from Thunderbolt monitor to the MacBook? But it works with Windows7 while the MagSafe power isn't connected to the MacBook.
    2. If I have to connect the MagSafe power to use the Thunderbolt display with MacOS Lion, is it harmful for the battery in the MacBook Pro? (I mean overcharging).
    Thank you very much.
    Sincerely,
    Selcuk Kiray

As Kappy said Windows has no power management capabilities for Mac. Secondly Your MagSafe Adapter and battery has been built so that it knows when it's fully charged. After it's charged, it will then become a power cord until, you un-plug it, use up the battery and need to charge it again.

  • Macbook pro and ViewSonic monitor

Yes I have a 2.4Ghz MacBook Pro and a View Sonic Graphic Series G90f monitor. Every time I connect the monitor to the view sonic the display losses color tent. It's almost like it's using a new custom display profile even tho it says it's not. Had anyone had an issues where you plug in a view sonic monitor and the color get's almost a little dull looking?

It does sound like a color profile problem. There is a checkbox that will list other profiles, versus only those lited for the detected monitor. Uncheck the box and try some of the listed profiles.
I had the same problem on a Polaroid LCD TV, and I was able to find a profile that gave much better results.

  • Monitor adapter for macbook pro and dell monitor

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro and a Dell monitor. The laptop has Mac OS X (Version 10.6.8). The model of the Dell monitor is a Dell E193FPp. I'd like to know what monitor adapter to get to be able to connect the 2 together. Anyone have any ideas?
Any help would be great. If you need more info on either equipment to help answer, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance!

  • How do I get audio from MacBook Pro to Samsung monitor?

MacBook Pro - I've just bought an S27b550V Samsung monitor to connect to the MacBook Pro but even with hdmi adaptor and usb connection can only get video. I set sound control to recognise the usb output but still nothing but a faint muted sound from the monitor. How do I get audio to work?

I don't think that a USB connection is going to do anything - as you've a Mac with a Mini DisplayPort that, I don't believe, will carry audio over HDMI, you'd need to use the 3.5-mm analog/optical combo jack optical jack to get video to your Samsung monitor.

  • Getting a different screen on MacBook Pro and VGA monitor

I have a MacBook Pro with Retina screen and have just connected a Samsung monitor to it using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. The wallpaper comes up on the Samsung but when you go into System Preferences and select Displays it says No Devices Detected but a SyncMaster window opens up on the monitor.
I can open an application on the MacBook and drag it across to the monitor although the toolbar with File, Edit etc stay on the MacBook. I can then expand it to fill the monitor. If I then open another application i.e Safari, the app othe monitor disappears. If I then reduce the size of Safari using the 2 arrows in the top right hand corner the app on the monitor comes back. I can then increase the sizeoftheapp on the MacBook by using the green button andcan then drag the size of the app to fill the screen but can't hide the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. I can then use the two apps independently but it's clumsy. Is this the only way it will work roam I doing something wrong?
    Thanks

Right the external monitor is just an extension of your desktop. I think there is a setting, but I'm not sure where it is, that allows you to switch primary displays. Or you could set the system into Clamshell mode and us onl the external.

  • MacBook Pro and Samsung screen compatibility

    Hi there
    I have a 13" MacBook Pro 7,1, screen resolution 1280 x 800.  I also have a Sony HDVD camera [HDR-SR11E].
I am thinking of buying a Samsung monitor for ease of video and picture editing -- SAMSUNG 2333HD, which has a 23-inch widescreen display; 16:9 Aspect Ratio; 1920 x 1080 Resolution; 300 cd/m2 Brightness.
Apparently it has "two HDMi sockets, a DVI input and a VGA entry"
Is the aspect ratio of the Samsung compatible with my Mac and do I have to purchase any extra peripherals to make these pieces of equipment work together?
Thanks for any clear, simple help anyone can give

    There are two different models.

  • Macbook Pro and External Monitor flashing?

I am using a Macbook Pro with an External Dell 1908fp 19" monitor via a Thunderbolt to DVI adaptor all fine.
However the annoying niggle I have is that the monitor which seems fine, keeps flashing intermittently on and off randomly?!?
Would anyone know why this is happening and if its the Mac's fault? I have the MBP open and the Monitor as the 2nd screen at 1440x900 which it seems to have defaulted to, and its very clear on both screens.
Is my monitor on its way out? it seems ok, and is quite new (though it was 2nd hand a couple of years ago) or is this a known Apple issue?
    Thanks for any help

The graphics card in the MBP supports resolutions far greater than that of the internal display, so any modern monitor will work fine - up to and including Apple's excellent (but pricey) Thunderbolt display and Cinema display.
The MBP will detect the external display and set the image to the correct resolution automatically, or you can choose the resolution in System Preferences -> Displays, so you don't need to worry about a black border.
Most modern monitors are 1080p and this works perfectly as an external display for a MBP.  You will need a mini-displayport to HDMI cable to connect the two.  If you get a monitor with built in speakers then that cable will also transfer audio.

  • Macbook Pro and external monitor sleep issues.

I recently upgraded to a new 13 inch MacBook Pro to replace my previous one.  With the upgrade, I'm now on the latest OS and I have a Thunderbolt instead of Mini-displayport output.  I have a Dell U2410 monitor which has worked great up until now, but I now have the following behavior:
When the laptop sleeps (or puts the display to sleep) the monitor begins to turn on and off.  It goes to powersave mode and immediately wakes up, realizes there's no signal, and goes back to powersave mode, etc etc etc.
When I wake the computer up from sleep, the monitor's behavior stays the same.  The laptop never detects the display and begins sending a signal.
If I unplug and replug the adapter, all is well.
There seem to be two separate issues: whatever signal the computer continues to send down the display cable after sleep seems to confuse my monitor, secondly, the computer never again sends a real video signal down the line after it wakes up.
I'm on the latest 10.8.3.  My adapter is the same adapter I have been using for years, an apple mini-display port to DVI adapter.  Supposedly this adapter is still compatible with the Thunderbolt port.
I've seen lots of issues online about wake up issues with the latest OS.  Is there a workaround for this yet or do I have to uplug my monitor anytime I sleep the computer?

    Hi Steve,
I have had the exact same issues after adding a WD Thunderbolt Duo external drive to a Mid 2011 iMac and then daisy chaining the Dell U2410 monitor off that.
My Mini DP to DVI cable ceased working properly - sleeps issues.
After buying one of these adapters of Ebay:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-in-1-Mini-Displayport-to-HDMI-with-audio-DVI-DP-ada pter-3in1-convertor-Macbook-/110861703462?pt=US_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item1 9cfdf5926
I then tried all the different cables that came originally with the Dell U2410 with that adapter, and none of then would put the U2410 to sleep properly. The backlight would stay on, or "No Displayport Cable" would float around the Dell display with the backlighting still on. Or otherwise the Dell would try to go to sleep and then wake up again and cycle like you found.
Apples Mini DP to VGA adapter was sleep successful with the VGA cable (Analogue) but the output picture was not as sharp as DVI or Displayport, plus there was RF interference with the cable.
After lots of internet searching I have found a near perfect solution:
A HDMI to DVI cable with the HDMI end connected to the Ebay 3 in 1 adapter, which then connects to the Thunderbolt port.
Connect this to DVI-D 1 on the Dell U2410.
On the Dell in Menu - Other Settings,  disable DDC/CI
Now in OSX Settings - energy Saver you will have to tick:
"Put Hard Disks to sleep where possible" and select a short time frame for "Computer Sleep"
I have found that the display would go black but the backlighting on the Dell U2410 would stay on, when the display went to sleep on the Mac as per the Energy Saver "Display Sleep" setting.
The backlighting on the Dell would only turn off when the time for 'Computer Sleep" has elapsed and the external Thunderbolt hard disk went to sleep as well.
The Dell U2410 would then wake up correctly as well when my iMac woke, with this setup.
Cheapest solution for you would be to try an Apple or Ebay HDMI to DVI adapter and then use the DVI - DVI cable that came with the Dell.
If that fails get the 3 in one Adapter and use my Mini DP/Thunderbolt to Ebay Adapter to DVI-DVI cable setup.
I'm assuming your new Macbook Pro comes with the HDMI port ?
I believe the Sleep Issues with this monitor are all related to appropriate signal on the cable, and only the HDMI to DVI solution will work correctly on Mac's connected to the Dell U2410.
    Good Luck. :-)

  • MacBook Pro and Samsung lcd

Ok so i have a 52 inch Samsung lcd...until a couple of hours ago everything was working perfect. I had my macbook closed, connected to the LCD, and i was using apple's bluetooth keyboard and mouse and it was just working perfectly.
About 2 hours ago i decided to try to change the resolution on the screen to make things bigger. I changed to the first resolution and i reverted back to the original cause i could not see...i then did another resolution and i don't know what i did but now my screen keeps saying "mode not supported".
I now have the display on mirror and i have my mac book open (by this i mean the computer's screen is working) and i can see perfectly on the samsung lcd...
When i close the macbook pro though the samsung lcd goes black and then i get "mode not supported"...
Is there any way to "restore" to the original settings i had before? i seriously do not understand why its not working

OS X stored two different preferences for a given display depending on whether it is being run as a sole display (lid down) or a second display (lid up). Unfortunately, the value stored for lid down currently is not useable, and every time the Mac is put in lid down mode, it keeps reverting to that same value.
If you follow the instructions at the bottom of the page in the following link about dealing with the windowserver.plist file, you should be able to get back to a fresh start.

  • Macbook Pro and Multiple Monitors

    Hi,
I was considering on making the move to apple and getting the macbook pro.I multi-task a lot with my machine and was thinking of buying 2 20" apple cinema display's.Is their a way of connecting my macbook pro to the 2 cinema displays and to a 32" so 4 monitors including the unit itself can be run.It needs to be quiet cheap as well don't really want to spend a lot of money on it.All the screen's have to run different I don't want it to be mirroring on all four.
    Thanks
    Jonathan

No, not without buying an external video card unit that connects via the MBP's Express34 slot. It's not cheap, but one was featured on gizmodo a while back: http://www.tuaw.com/2008/03/08/vidock-gfx-brings-multiple-external-monitors-to-m acbook-pro/
There is no way to run multiple monitors off the single DVI port in the MBP.

I just bought an Apple mini display port to dvi adaptor but no graphics are being displayed on my monitor (a samsung tv/monitor). All that is present is the background on my macbook. Any ideas on how to sort this please?

That's the extended desktop. Try Command F1 if you want to mirror.

  • I have a macbook pro and two monitors connected via matrox dualhead2go. The display is fine, but there is a lag with the mouse cursor. Matrox technical do not seem to have the answer, anyone else?

As in the question, everything works fine, but there is a lag with the mouse pointer, latency issue. I have seen on other forums this has been an issue, but with different solutions, and some with no solutions. Matrox technical team have no solutions for me unfortunately, so any similar user experiences would be good.

    I have the same issue....
    Is there any solution ?
