MacBook Pro and Samsung screen compatibility

Hi there
I have a 13" MacBook Pro 7,1, screen resolution 1280 x 800.  I also have a Sony HDVD camera [HDR-SR11E].
I am thinking of buying a Samsung monitor for ease of video and picture editing -- SAMSUNG 2333HD, which has a 23-inch widescreen display; 16:9 Aspect Ratio; 1920 x 1080 Resolution; 300 cd/m2 Brightness.
Apparently it has "two HDMi sockets, a DVI input and a VGA entry"
Is the aspect ratio of the Samsung compatible with my Mac and do I have to purchase any extra peripherals to make these pieces of equipment work together?
Thanks for any clear, simple help anyone can give

There are two different models.

  • I dropped my macbook pro and the screen is broken can i still use it with an external monitor? Or can I or how do I transfer hard drive files to my mac mini?

I dropped my 17" macbook pro and the screen is broken. Can I still use it with an external monitor? When I plugged it into a monitor I had used it with before, I'm not able to see anything on the macbook screen to control it. It came on but I just got the blue screen with nothing else after typing in my password. (Didn't see the password form just assumed it was there somewhere and it did go from space to blue screen but no desktop icons, files, dock strip at top or anything else, just blank blue screen) so I can't access the system preferences.
Or can I / or how do I, transfer hard drive files to my mac mini? If not salvageable as is can I pull out the hard drive and make it an external harddrive? In otherwords is anything salvageable? It seems it's coming on I just can't access anything. BTW I was told it would cost aprox $1000 to replace the screen! I paid almost $4000 for this thing and it was running great - makes me sick to lose it!

I'd like to promise you that everything will be fine if you just get the monitor going - but it's hard to know what the hardware damage might be. It might be the monitor, or the damage might be greater.
Your best solution would be visit your local Apple Store and let them know what your situation is. They have access to diagnostics you don't, and they might be able to the best way to save your data and keep you computing. It's still not covered, but they can tell you what your current options are.
Um, you might consider investing in a backup drive.
And there other repair options, too. Powerbook Medic http://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/pages.php?pageid=67 offers reliable repairs, and quotes prices well under Apple's.

  • MacBook Pro and Samsung lcd

Ok so i have a 52 inch Samsung lcd...until a couple of hours ago everything was working perfect. I had my macbook closed, connected to the LCD, and i was using apple's bluetooth keyboard and mouse and it was just working perfectly.
About 2 hours ago i decided to try to change the resolution on the screen to make things bigger. I changed to the first resolution and i reverted back to the original cause i could not see...i then did another resolution and i don't know what i did but now my screen keeps saying "mode not supported".
I now have the display on mirror and i have my mac book open (by this i mean the computer's screen is working) and i can see perfectly on the samsung lcd...
When i close the macbook pro though the samsung lcd goes black and then i get "mode not supported"...
Is there any way to "restore" to the original settings i had before? i seriously do not understand why its not working

OS X stored two different preferences for a given display depending on whether it is being run as a sole display (lid down) or a second display (lid up). Unfortunately, the value stored for lid down currently is not useable, and every time the Mac is put in lid down mode, it keeps reverting to that same value.
If you follow the instructions at the bottom of the page in the following link about dealing with the windowserver.plist file, you should be able to get back to a fresh start.

  • Macbook Pro and Samsung monitor

I bought a Samsung 22inch monitor. It works for my old G4 with VGA analog, but if I hook my MBP to the monitor through DVI all I get is my screensaver on the monitor. I tried detect monitor and nothing happens. Any thoughts ?

The reason is that the second monitor has extended your desktop. It is extra space. If you haven't moved something to it, it's still empty. If you were to close the lid and then wake up the MacBook Pro, then everything would appear on the external monitor. Or if you went into your Displays preferences and dragged the little menu bar icon from one display icon to the other, your menu bar would move to the other monitor. Or you could turn on mirroring and both monitors would show the same thing.

    Hello Alvaro1974
Depending on the issue, one of the articles below should sort you out. The first will more troubleshoot the display and the second article will be about the startup process and the software on you MacBook Pro.

  • Macbook pro and eyetv mini compatibility

Hope this is correct place to post.
Just bought a new Elgato tv mini from Apple.
Have downloaded very latest 2.1 universal binary software from Elgato and am running latest OS and firmware update but cannot get any channels on autotune. signal strength=100% but signal quality=0%. I am also in a very good area for freeview signals in UK and have even used a rooftop aerial which picks up signals from tv topbox but still NO Channels with tv mini!
Is this hardware and SW compatible with a new macbook pro or should I return it to Apple?

  • Weird Behavior with Macbook  pro and 30" screen

When trying to iSync my phone via Bluetooth my Bluetooth mouse takes on strange sluggish behavior and makes it virtually unusable. At this point I’ll flip open the lid on the Mac book and use the track pad. When I shut the lid again I lose the picture on the big screen only for it to return some seconds later when I hit the Bluetooth keyboard the picture comes back then after 5-6 seconds disappears. It’s almost like it get’s stuck in some sort of hibernation cycle mode.. The only way to solve it , so far is to open the lid and restart then close the lid before it boots up again. The exact same thing happens if I unplug the power cord. Sometimes as happened today you open the lid and nothing , you actually have to flip the battery out for a moment then reboot as above.
Providing I don’t open the lid or remove the power cord the computer and display work just fine
I’m guessing there is something I can do in the settings, but I’m not sure what it is. But as you can imagine it’s a real pain
Any pointers or ideas would be welcome and any explanation as to why the mouse goes nuts when I establish a connection between the computer and the phone( The sluggishness remains even after I’ve closed Bluetooth on the phone)
    Thanks
    Symon

Dang, I assume correctly that it doesn't work as advertised for you? I have a MacBook 13.3-in with a Dell 20-in display attached as extended desktop and when I pan, I eventually can only zoom in to the bottom of the screen. I can only pan horizontally.
Not as advertised at all I hope someone can fix that.

  • Questions with macbook pro and "windows server compatibility"

I know this is prob not the area to be posting this but i need a quick answer. I am trying to get a mac book for work and the office techs are very anti mac. They say the only reason that i am not allowed a mac is because its "not compatible with the network". all that i uses is Microsoft Outlook for mail. Is there a way i can still access my email with Safari? If anyone could give me a detailed answer with the limited info i have provided it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Your techs at work are simply unknowledgable. "Incompatible with the network" is a ludicrous response to your request. A more responsible reply would be that they have limited expertise and that they would provide what help they can but cannot commit to anything other than basic support. That seems reasonable to me.
With regard to Outlook. They may or may not support Outlook Web Access. If they do, you can easily use it though it looks a little different on the Mac than PC it operates the same.
If they do not use OWA, you can still get a copy of Entourage for Mac OS X. It's Microsoft's "Outlook" for the Mac and is included in Microsoft Office for Mac (a new version due out later this year).
Then again, you could run Windows in a VM when needed for specific items until they implement an accomodation for you.
That said, it's not uncommon for a shop with dedicated Microsoft personnel to entirely eschew compatibility and standards in favor of just-Microsoft solutions. You might find yourself in situations where they implement various web-based tools or utilities that you can't use. They also may have in place protocols for backing up files and such that presume a Windows client. The staff may have some valid concerns that your support demands will incur extra work (if nothing else, extra thought) on them without any substantial return (to them) on that investment of time and effort.

  • Macbook pro and linksys WRT160N compatibility

    Hi,
I just bought a Linksys WRT160N wireless draft N router. I am able to connect to my wireless router, but when I use Network Utility to check the speeds, I am told the linkrate is only 130Mbit/s. As I understand wireless N should give linkrates of 300Mbits/s.
The router runs on the latest linksys firmware and I use a 15" 2.2GHz MBP. I wonder what's the problem and how do i fix it such the my wireless N router is able to run at full speeds?
    Thanks for any help offered.

Pretty sure that model is not "dual band" which means it only operates on the 2.4ghz spectrum (not 2.4 & 5ghz). The max for the 2.4 ghz band is 130mbit.
I believe Linksys has a more expensive "dual band" model that does 5ghz which will give you 270mbit speeds although i've personally experienced 300mbit.
    hope this helps.

  • Getting a different screen on MacBook Pro and VGA monitor

I have a MacBook Pro with Retina screen and have just connected a Samsung monitor to it using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. The wallpaper comes up on the Samsung but when you go into System Preferences and select Displays it says No Devices Detected but a SyncMaster window opens up on the monitor.
I can open an application on the MacBook and drag it across to the monitor although the toolbar with File, Edit etc stay on the MacBook. I can then expand it to fill the monitor. If I then open another application i.e Safari, the app othe monitor disappears. If I then reduce the size of Safari using the 2 arrows in the top right hand corner the app on the monitor comes back. I can then increase the sizeoftheapp on the MacBook by using the green button andcan then drag the size of the app to fill the screen but can't hide the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. I can then use the two apps independently but it's clumsy. Is this the only way it will work roam I doing something wrong?
    Thanks

Right the external monitor is just an extension of your desktop. I think there is a setting, but I'm not sure where it is, that allows you to switch primary displays. Or you could set the system into Clamshell mode and us onl the external.
