Macbook Pro and Tiger Woods

I've just loaded Tiger Woods 08. The game will not launch with the message that my video card is not compatible even though I have an ATI Radeon x1600 256Mb which the specs say is sufficient. I get a message box saying that my video card is not compatible and when i click OK, the game quits to the finder.
Anyone else have this problem or a solution?
I have a 15" macbook Pro 2.33GHz.

I'm not sure if you have bought the latest MBP with the Penryn chip installed in it or not, but I have played ut2004 for several hours with the laptop on my lap, and temperature did go a little above 72 C, which is normal and fan speed was a little below or above 5800 RPM. Unlike the Santa Rosa MBP that I had but sold later, the Penryn didn't burn my testicles

Have old MacBook Pro running tiger 10.4 want to save date to external hard drive and buy newer MacBook and still use same drive. Any suggestions, most  WD drives say nothing about os tiger 10.4. The OS compatibility  is much newer on the data.  Totally confused. Not a computer person.

I haven't checked reviews recently but there's a difference between bare drives and drives with enclosures.  Western Digital made some of the most reliable drives last time I checked, though the enclosures weren't all that great.  It is convenient to get both in one package but I usually buy a highly rated enclosure and then put a highly rated drive in it myself.  OWC sells some good enclosures but if they put a so-so drive inside of it then the package is only as good as its weakest component.  If you get a package from them, ask them what drive is inside (some vendors have no idea what's inside  -  went to an Apple Store recently and they couldn't tell me what was inside some of their Apple brand enclosures).  My first thought if buying a new drive would be to buy a OWC enclosure with a WD drive, but chek around because I may be out of date.
10 years ago Seagate was one of the best drives. Now they rate poorly in reviews.

  • I want to share files between my MacBook Pro and G5, I am using an AirPort

I want to share files between my MacBook Pro and G5, I am using an AirPort Extreme Base Station. I can see the MacBook Pro on the G5 and vice versa, I have file sharing turned on both, as well as Screen Sharing. I currently am sharing using Target Disk Mode, I want to know what other wireless options are available to me?
I want to have the 2 computers able to see each other and be able to share files be drag and dropping, I also have another G4 on using Tiger I want to be a part of this happy Apple sharing family. Can someone please tell me how to accomplish my goal?
Thanks in advance for reading and replying to my post,
    Sebastian

The mac help is: Finder window/Help/Mac Help. It provides answers to a lot of common questions, including file sharing.
As for the ethernet cable, you can either buy another one (inexpensive and available in many places including Walmart), or just unplug it from your modem temporarily and plug it back in when you're done.
As for Target disk mode, take a look at this Apple article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Apple online support pages are also a great way to find out how to do things.
As I mentioned, I prefer using the ethernet/file sharing method if I need to copy a lot of files; however, there is another way around if you have an external drive and just want to copy one or two files. Just plug the external into one computer, copy the file onto it, unplug, plug into the other computer and copy.

  • How do I get Snow to work with MacBook Pro running Tiger?

I have a MacBook Pro running Tiger (obviously), and have been trying to get my Snow base station (a.k.a. Dual Ethernet) to work with it, but couldn't.
After hours of searching these pages, Apple Support and Google, I found this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301510
So...it seems like it can't be done. The question now is...what do I do? The Support page doesn't give me any help
    Anyone have any tips?

Just to confirm, n5k, the article 301510 says, 'To administer the original AirPort Base Station (Graphite) or second-generation AirPort Base Station (Dual Ethernet) from a Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" computer, you must use AirPort Admin Utility'. It doesn't say it can't be done at all, just that that neither of the Airport Setup Assistants will work.
I'm having the same problem as you, accessing the Internet from a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.4.6 (yes, obviously) through a Snow Base Station. Now I am wondering if we will be helped by the MacBook Pro SMC (whatever that stands for) Firmware Update which I am downloading now.

Oh, you do have the C2D! That's great!
I'm no technical expert, I just like to help out whenever or wherever I can so... I don't know if this can help you, but let me tell you about how I got my Snow Leopard to run in 64 bit mode. When I got my (late 2008) iMac it was running in 32 bit mode under Tiger (2.4 GHz/Core 2 Duo). I eventually upgraded to Snow Leopard & it was running in 32 bit mode (by default) w/1 GB RAM.
Somewhere along the line, I happened to watch a YouTube Video that showed how to upgrade an iMac's RAM, so I ordered two - 2GB sticks of Crucial RAM and then - under the guidance of the 14 or 15 year-old young man who posted the video on YouTube; wearing a rather fashionable static-electricity-neutralizer-wrist-strap, I removed 1GB of RAM & plugged in the 4GBs of RAM. So - boom like that, it was like I bought a brand new machine.
It was over a year later when I stumbled across a way to boot Snow Leopard into 64 bit mode. Turns out that if you boot while holding down the 6 & 4 key combo (the ones above the QWERTY keys), then the machine runs in 64 bit mode. Go figure. Now my Snow Leopard and just about all of my applications - with the ironic exception of iTunes - runs in 64 bit. iTunes seems fine though; if there's a performance bottleneck, I really can't tell.
    Well, that's about it..
I hope that something I've mentioned can help you achieve your overall goal.
Finally, it's hard to jump onto a train, a large cat, or a surfboard that's already moving. But don't be surprised when someone a fraction of your age shows you how to.
    Best Regards,
    mm~

  • I have just bought a 2nd hand MacBook pro and need to wipe the previous owners details. How do I do that?

Hiya, so I've got this old MacBook Pro and need to wipe the admin user but have no password to work with. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to get rid of her and set myself up please? Thanks.

You will need the original Tiger installation disks.  Insert the install disk, open Disk Utility from the UTILITIES menu, erase the HDD and inatall the OSX.  That will create your own Apple ID.  The second option is to use a retail Leopard or Snow Leopard disk instead, but they do not come with all of the applications.

  • MacBook Pro and Intel Core 2 Duo?

    Hey there everyone,
It is great that Apple is announcing the Intel Core 2 Duo, but when would it be available in the MacBook or MacBook Pro?
I am starting school in January and would like some time to use my new MB or MB Pro, but don't want to make a decision to buy and have the next gen processor avail next week...
The special with the free iPod Nano or reduced price iPod ends September 16th. Why are people waiting until next Tuesday, September 12 to make any purchases...I hope no bombshell will be dropped on everyone.
I was totally prepared to get my MacBook or MacBook Pro tomorrow, but VERY hesitant now.
Any advice? Am I making a big deal out of this? Will I EVEN notice a difference between the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo?
The main reason I am not buying a MB Pro is the heat issue and yet the Core 2 Duo is predicted to be cooler...
    Help!!!

    Wow great advice so far!
I was never into forums and discussion boards, but since I was buying a Mac again (the first was an LC II...for those who remember) I thought I would check the discussion board...yikes! Great one way, but information overload on the other.
TRUE there will never be a better Mac and to buy for what you need at the moment. Heat being a huge issue why I haven't purchased a MB Pro, it now seems as if the Core 2 Duo will not run much cooler which is a HUGE purchase deciding factor for me. The MacBook seems to run cooler for sure.
If I get the Core Duo MacBook/Pro with Tiger, can I upgrade to Leopard when it comes out in spring? Will they be compatible as I am not sure what 64 bit processors really do?
I can definately wait until next Tuesday to make my purchase, but I will only have until the end of next week to get the education special with the iPod at a huge discount...of course Apple is clearing stock for new iPods surely. The 30 gig video iPod ends up costing 115.00 CAD...can't beat the price that's the thing.
Since heat is such an issue for me with the MB Pro this means I will be leaning towards the white MB and it SEEMS unlikely they will be upgraded as they only came out in May/June.
All I want is to say I am on top of the computer game at the current moment (if possible) even if it only lasts 5-6 months. I am upgrading from an old Windows ME system, Pentium III, 128 Mb RAM, 733 Mhz processor...about 6 years old. My how much has changed since those times.
I am really not trying to make this decision difficult on myself...really!
You all are great for providing some great advice!

  • Where do I continue; I have a '07 Macbook Pro, and would truly appreciate your help as I freshly install my osx beginning with my original 10.4

    Please...
Where do I continue; I have a '07 Macbook Pro, and would truly appreciate your help as I have freshly installed my osx beginning with my original 10.4
    Thank you
    PS
I should mention; for reasons unknown to me, I no longer have use of my disk drive since reinstalling 10.4.

You can use software update to install the latest version of Tiger.  If you connect an external DVD drive you can install an upgrade to Snow Leopard.  The disk is available at the Apple online store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Further upgrades are dependent upon the EXACT model of your MBP.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 - Macbook Pro and Macbook Air will not print

    Products:
    HP Officejet Pro 8600
Macbook Pro (Mac OS X, Version 10.7.5)
Macbook Air (OS X, Version 10.8.2)
    Question:
Why did my Macs initially print fine, but now will not print at all?
    Full Story:
I have a wireless network at my house that consisted of a 30mb cable internet, Netgear 900n, HP Officejet Pro 8600, 2 Dell Laptops with Windows 7, a Lenovo Laptop with Windows 7, and Dell Tower with Windows 7 - All printed just fine.
The HP Officejet 8600 was added to my network about 2 months ago.
I added a Macbook Pro and a Macbook Air about 3 weeks ago.  Both Macs printed just fine for about a week.  Then suddenly they stopped.  I spent about 2 hours on the phone with HP Service, and they finally said it must be my router.  So I called Netgear.  Netgear was useless!  They wanted me to agree to charges for services before they would even discuss the issue.
Due to information provided by HP's service support, and because Netgear will not support their product, I promptly purchased a new router - an Apple Airport Extreme.
The Macs recognize the printer, will print if hardwired via a USB cable, but will not print wirelessly to the Officejet Pro 8600.  The PCs print fine.
The frustration that is being felt is compound by the fact that the Macs printed just fine with the Officejet Pro 8600 2 weeks ago, and now the printer just shows "idle"... even with a new router. (see image below)
Please help, I appreciate any support.
As a side note, the HP Service rep was very friendly, and definitely tried to support the HP Product, which is much more than I can say about Netgear.
    Thank you,
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
More likely the issue related with Multicast, which Apple devices relies on to communicate with teh device through the network.
First try unplugging the router for 30 seconds.
Plug it back to the power and wait for 2-3 minutes.
Turn the HP printer Off and back On, then check for any difference.
If the same persists, try changing your router configuration as following
Note: the settings below are not related with the HP product, I provide you the steps as a best effor and those are only based on my own knowledge. you may try modifying the router settings at your own risk:
Open the router configuration page (can be found listed as the Default Gateway by clicking the Wireless icon on the printer, then print a network configuration report.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Click the Setup option from the menu, then click on WAN Setup.
Make sure to uncheck the box next to Disable IGMP Proxying and Apply the changes.
Click the LAN Setup on the same Setup menu.
Set the RIP Version as RIP-2 and Apply the changes.
Reboot your router and then check for any change.
I hope you may find that information useful, you may also use the user guide below for further information:

I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. the same thing happens when just trying to save my pictures from iphoto to a flash drive. suggestions to complete backup please?

Sounds like you'll need to access that drive while it is not booted. You need to replace it anyway, so do that, then one way or another (ext enclusure, et), access it and copy files.
If you keep trying to boot it, you might kill it for good and not get your files, so just swap it out first.
