MacBook Pro and Time Capsule after adding new wireless router

I have a MacBook Pro and Time Capsule (which functions wirelessly to router and computer). I added a new wireless router (netgear, not my idea) and had to change name of wireless network. Now Time Capsule flashes amber and does not show up in Airport Utility.
Do I have to set up Time Capsule from scratch? If so, if you can aim me to directions I won't have to waste tech support's time.
My additional question on a similar vein: I also have a Time Capsule (second time capsule) which is plugged into the wireless router using ethernet cable for use with a windows notebook running windows 7 which backs up wirelessly. Do I have to change anything on this Time Capsule (second Time Capsule) as a result of change in name of network (I've already adjusted computer to connect to network)?

  • MacBook Pro and Time Capsule connection issue

I have an issue where all the devices in my house can connect and work with my Time Capsule, except for my MacBook Pro. Everything has worked in the past(including my MBP), but last weekend my Time Capsule died, I went to an Apple store and got a refurb unit.
After setting up the new unit, every device can attach and use it, except for my MBP. It appears to attach, but says that I don't have an internet connection. When I look at the attached clients on the Time Capsule, it shows all the devices by name, except mine is shown by MAC address.
I have the wifi settings set the same as the other computers, etc., which do work. I can take my MBP to other places that have wifi, and it works just fine. It also doesn't work if I plug it into one of the LAN connections(Ethernet) on the Time Capsule. The other computers will work on wifi or the direct connection.
After taking my computer to another place and using their wifi, mine worked when I brought it back home. This lasted for a few days, then it just stopped again this morning.
I have restarted, shutdown, etc., the Time Capsule and my MBP many, many times.
Time Capsule 512MB original unit, firmware(7.6)
    MacBook Pro 17", 9 months, 10.7.2
Other devices: two iMacs, 3 iPhones, 2 iPads 2's, and an Apple TV.
Anyone else having similar issues, any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Macbook pro and time capsule run hot

How hot should the laptop be getting? It only does this intermittently and more so up by the speakers, and the speakers are not always running. The Time capsule is on all the time and is hot all the time. Not so hot as to melt the plastic etc but I was interested in the amount of heat these should be releasing. Any information would help to ease my mind. I am new to Apple products and clearly heat is not unusual for the PC world. Thank you Douglas

If you simply want a cooler Mac, download smcFanControl - this program lets you set a minimum speed for the fans. I set it to 2400 - 2000 is the standard minimum temp that the MacBook Pro sets, and IMO it's just not enough.
I live in a pretty hot country so the MacBook Pro would get too hot to touch frequently. smcFanControl allows you to set a few different profiles, so when you think your computer is too hot, you can just switch to another profile and set min fan speed to, say 3000 or 4000 RPM. It only really starts to make noise at 4000.
Apple obviously had to strike a balance between noise and heat, and IMO they allow the MBP to run too hot. It will eventually damage components. I lost a hard drive and I am pretty sure it was due to heat because I had left the MBP unattended and charging, and it just felt extremely hot to the touch. The next day, the hard disk was dead...

  • I have a macbook pro and time capsule.  Computer hard drive is full and I would like to expand wirelessly.

I have read many forums that note an external hard drive can be connected to a time capsule, but it sound like that is just a way to expand the time capsule and not the computer hard drive.  The reason I would prefer a wireless option is to keep the laptop portable around the house (we have apple t.v. and home theater system that syncs wirelessly to itunes).  Wireless would allow use of any device even with the hard drive not being hard connected to the laptop.  Are there any options out there or am I just misunderstanding what happens when connecting a hard drive to the time capsule.
I am not concerned about speed, but would hope any solution would still allow back up to the time capsule.
    Thanks!!

You cannot expand the computer's hard drive by connecting an external drive to a Time Capsule. All that does is provide separate external storage. It will not expand the size of your computer's drive. To do that you have to buy a larger hard drive for the computer. Or you can buy an external drive then copy files you don't need to the external drive and erase them on your internal drive.

Use the Office for Mac and ignore using Parallels for that. If you have PC only apps you have to run that are MS Windows only then consider Parallels. Just transfer your main PC, using Migration Assistant.  If you don't know how then simply read over Pondini's article called Lion or Mountain Lion Setup Assistant tips and look for the section on migrating from a PC. Millions have done what you are about to, it's far from leading edge these days, if you go to an Apple Store to purchase they will offer this as a service, something you might be interested in.

after a restart it works for a time, but always slow. I went to the Applestore this afternoon and the made a check and said it would be the logicboard and they would have to change it for CHF 600 and it would be ready in 10 - 15 days

You may need many other updates to retain compatibility with Lion. I suggest you reinstall Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, you will need to erase the drive first. Be sure to backup your data if you haven't done so already.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

That is Pages for iPad v2.0, which Pages '09 v4.3 can't read.
You need to either stick with the older version of Pages on the iPad or get Pages 5 for the Mac which is only available if you are running OSX 10.9 Mavericks.
Unfortunately that is not the end of your woes because Apple has made iCloud convert the files to Pages 5 now, and Pages 5 has over 90 features deleted on top of doing a shocking job of converting older Pages files.

i lost my macbook pro and i just got a new one. how can i retrieve the pictures taken with photo booth(old laptop) to my new laptop?

Well if you don't have the laptop to get the storage drive out of it, and you don't have any previous backups how do you expect to get the photo's?
PhotoBooth is just a program, it stores the files on the computers storage drive, if the computer is lost so are your photo's.
There is nothing you can do to delete or retrieve them using your new computer unless you stored them online someplace.
DId you save them online? iDisk or something else?
I don't use such services because my data is mine and not theirs to snoop through, so if your looking for that sort of help I can't assist you any.

  • Setting Up Time Capsule as a Second Wireless Router

Thanks for trying to help. I have a Time Capsule that I'm currently using to back up my files. My next door neighbor is willing to share his internet with me for half the monthly cost. He already has a wireless router and I can connect to it using my macbook (no probs) except the signal strength is not so powerful since I'm a couple feet far from his router. I was wondering if I can use my Time Capsule to hook up the internet via WIFI through his wireless router (that way I have a stronger signal strength from my Time Capsule). Basically using my Time capsule as a 2nd wireless router to expand my neighbor's network. Like repeating (like a transceiver) to and from neighbor's wireless network, to expand upon it.
    Internet = Neighbor's Modem = Neighbor's wireless Router = Time Capsule = My Macbook
If you can please tell me how to set this up in details on my TC please. thanks for your time.

802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station -> 802.11n Time Capsule
With "mixed" AirPorts, you will need to configure both routers into a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). Your neighbor's AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) will be the main and your Time Capsule (TC) will be the remote base station in this WDS.
To simplify setup, you should connect your TC directly to the AirPort's LAN port by Ethernet. Once the WDS is configured, you can disconnect the TC and place it at the desired location.
The following are the basic configuration steps to create a WDS:
(Note: To facilitate the WDS set up, jot down the AirPort IDs (MAC addresses) for each of the base stations to be used in the WDS. The AirPort ID and is printed on the label on the bottom/side of the base station.)
Main Base Station Setup - AEBS
o Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar and choose the wireless network created by the base station you want to set up as the main base station.
o Open AirPort Utility (located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a Macintosh computer, or in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows).
o Select the main base station, and choose Manual Setup from the Base
Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window.
o Enter the base station password if necessary. If the base station is using the
default password of public, you will not be prompted for a password.
o Click Wireless in the toolbar, and then choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu.
o Click WDS and then choose “WDS main” from the WDS Mode pop-up menu.
o Select the “Allow wireless clients” checkbox if you want client computer to connect to this base station.
o Click the Add "+" button and enter the AirPort ID of the base station you want to connect to this base station.
o Click Update to send the new settings to the base stations in the WDS.
Remote Base Station Setup - TC
o Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar and choose the wireless network created by the base station you want to set up as a remote base station.
o Open AirPort Utility (in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a Macintosh computer, or in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows).
o Select the remote base station, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
o Enter the base station password, if necessary. If the base station is using the default password of public, you will not be prompted for a password.
o Enter the same network password as the main base station, if necessary.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar and click Wireless. Choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and choose the same channel as the main base station from the Channel pop-up menu.
o Click WDS and choose “WDS remote” from the pop-up menu.
o Enter the AirPort ID of the main base station in the WDS Main field.
o Click Update to transfer the settings to the base station.
(ref: Pages 42-46 of "Designing AirPort Networks.)
802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station -> 802.11n Time Capsule
o Open AirPort Utility and select the base station that will connect to the Internet.
o Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
o Choose “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then select the “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox.
o Next, select the base station that will extend this network, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then choose the network you want to extend from the Network Name pop-up menu.
o Enter the base station network and base station password is necessary.
o Click Update to update the base station with new network settings.
