Macbook pro auto power on

Hello,
Whenever I connect the adapter to macbook pro it starts on, is there anything wrong with that.
How can I fix that?
OS X Mavericks 10.9.2

Thelovelykeilya,
do you have access to a second MacBook Pro, or to a second AC adapter? If so, you can test the other AC adapter on your MacBook Pro, and your AC adapter on the other MacBook Pro, to see if the problem is with your AC adapter. If the other AC adapter doesn’t charge your MacBook Pro, and your AC adapter does charge the other MacBook Pro, then the problem is with your MacBook Pro — make an appointment at an Apple store or other qualified service facility for further diagnosis.

this never happened in my macbook pro before when i use leopard or XP system

Thanks for taking so much time in helping me.
    Just an update:
    2 loops/passes done - no errors.
Called up Digital Hub and talked to the technician, he says there are 3 possible problems:
    1. Battery (which is still inside the laptop) may cause some disturbances with the electric current
    2. Software related - most likely re-formatting may be needed
    3. Video card may have failed, which means complete change of the logic board ----> worst case
I'm crossing my fingers that it's either of the first two.

I unplug my MacBook Pro from power and external speaker and I hear  incremental beeps and sounds as if email being sent. Doesn't' stop until I close email.   Not sure what is happening our what if any emails are being sent.

You can install Temperature Monitor and have a look if the CPU oder GPU oder something else went to hot. The processor has a built in safety mechanism to shut down the computer before taking damage.

  • MacBook Pro Auto Brightness, When Does It Detect and Frequency

I have auto brightness enabled.  I frequently manually adjust brightness when watching videos, etc.  I was wondering when does the MacBook Pro auto adjust brightness and/or how often does it auto adjust the brightness?
    Thanks in advance.

Hello, Auto brighness is a great feature on a macbook pro and I use it all the time! Your mac has a build in light sensor so if the light is above a certain level the brighness will go up. You can also enable the automatic keyboard brightness! Just one tip, if you need your battery to last longer on a daily basis, i would NOT enable any of these.
    Flynn!

there are only 2 statistical probabilities of both charger blocks (NOT the cord as you report) going at the same time.
and what "goes" is one of the 2 capacitors inside them.
A: bad power on your outlet (more likely)
B; also likely is a defective IO board in your macbook causing the charger blocks to go kaput

Hi Martin, thanks for your response, I'll have a good read through that article. Just to fire some more facts at you:
My superdrive has been playing up intermittently for a while. Sometime it wont read the content on CDs / DVDs - usually copied / PC & Mac written discs, not commercial ones. However I haven't been trying to read and discs when the problems have happened.
I upgraded my hard drive from a 320Gb to a 500Gb disc about 6 months ago and the switch was done by a competent Apple Authorized Service Provider. For a few weeks after the new drive had been installed there were a few occasions where the disc was making some noise, like a clicking noise. This would start and go on for a minute or so then seem to dye down and stop. It happened a total of about 10-15 times but when I reported this to the person that fitted my new hard drive he assured me he felt it was unlikely to cause a problem. he did say that if it went on to be an issue they would replace the drive of course. Like I said this was all done about 6 months ago and the clicking noises only happened a handful of times in the first month or so after the install and it did have one bad crash in this time but since then it has been fine.
I just wondered if you thought either of the above might be a cause of the issue?
    Thanks
    Frani,
I think the optical drive is not your problem, but it sounds like it needs replacement. There's a 75% chance it's your hard drive. Read the article on kernel panics. It takes time to diagnose the issue, but if you get TechTools and run a full diagnostic, you might find out if it's a hardware issue. But fix permissions and clean out your cache first, just in case it's a simple fix.

  • My Macbook Pro loses power with battery down to 85%

I have had this problem for about two weeks. My Macbook Pro runs fine when attached to the power adapter, but when it is on battery power, no matter what applications I am running, the computer suddenly turns off after about 10 minutes when the battery reads about 85% charge.  It will not restart until it is reattached to the power adapter. The computer is from about 2006 and has the original battery.
I ran diagnostics and it says the battery is working okay. I ran the utilities application to see how much CPU was in use, and it was only about 5% for all CPU capacity, and none of the running applications seemed to be using much of the hard disc.
I am planning to go to the Apple Store, I suspect they will tell me I need a new battery. Can it be tested at the Apple store out of the computer? Can I test it at home with my home voltmeter?

This is a sign of a battery that has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced. Getting nearly nine years of use from a consumer rechargeable battery is a small miracle, congrats!

  • Late 2008 Macbook Pro: Which power adapter?

Hello all. I have a Late 2008 Macbook Pro 15", MacPro5,1. A few months back my dog ate the power adapter (unplugged, thankfully.) I thought I did the proper amount of research to order the correct adapter from a third party on Amazon, because I'm pretty darn broke and need to save every penny I can. When I got the adapter, the connector was different from the one that came with my Macbook Pro. It was 85W, all the numbers matched up, but the style was different. But, the plug worked enough to let me get the work done that I needed, so it didn't concern me too much.
That is, until this cord just stopped working. That's what I get for getting a third party cable from China off Amazon.
So now, I'm trying to research again to make sure I'm getting the right cable, and I want one that's made by Apple, and is exactly like the one that came in the box when I bought my Macbook Pro new. I went to MacSales.com and checked their compatibility pages, and ran into some issues. What is showing as compatible with my Mac is the 85W Magsafe MC556LL/A, but this is shown with the incorrect connector (like the one I got off Amazon.)
When I looked at the other adapters that were available, I found the MagSafe 2 85W MD506LL/A, which has a connector that looks like the original, but it only shows as compatible with 2012+ Retina Display Macbook Pros.
So, do I have to buy the MagSafe that is not like the original that came with my Macbook Pro, or can I get the MagSafe 2 that does match what I got out of the box?
    Reference pages from MacSales.com:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/MC556LLA/
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/MD506LLA/

Thanks! I didn't realize there was a revision, but that makes sense. I guess I don't understand they would change it, then use the original design for the later Retina Display models. Oh well, as long as it works!
On a similar note, is OWC the best option for a cheap Apple-brand adapter? They're selling them for $47, when the cheapest I can find anywhere else is like $75. They seem pretty reputable with all the options and Apple-specific stuff they offer, I just didn't want to make the same mistake again and would like other options if they are available.
    Thanks again!

  • MacBook Pro 15" Power consumption

What is the average power consumption of a MacBook Pro 15" please? I need to buy a battery backup to cater for power cuts.

Yes, you cannot partition the RAID, period, after creation.
The 2011 models and later have 6.0 Gb/s HDD interfaces with 3.0 Gb/s for the optical drive until after the 17" model, then 6.0 Gb/s on both interfaces. But no such support for the 2010 models like yours.
i honestly don't see the point of installing two large capacity SSDs for a RAID setup. I put smaller SSDs where the HDD was and a large HDD in place of the optical drive. I use the SSD for startup and the HDD for storage.

  • Macbook pro scratched power port

I have noticed that the port where the magsafe power adapter plugs in to my macbook pro seems to be getting scratched/chipped around the edges
Anyone know how this can be fixed/avoided in the future?
    Many thanks in advance

Side surfaces are always open top scratches.  Common sense is needed, even with the strong aluminum body.  Some people install cases over the body to stave off such scratches.  But be aware that cases can trap dust and dirt right up against the metal and scratch it more.  And some people dislike the idea of enclosing the "heat dissipating" aluminum surface.
As to getting a case, open a new thread on that subject if you think you want to because I have no useful data beyond what I gave you.

  • MacBook Pro premature power off

    2.2 GHz Intel Core Duo
    2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Version 10.4.11
As of last week, I've noticed that my MacBook Pro seems to power off out of the blue. If I'm doing anything at all, such listening to iTunes, watching a DVD, or just about anything else, the laptop will just power off if not using the AC adapter. However, the battery will, according to the indicator, have a remaining hour of battery life left. I'm not sure of what to do at this point. All of my firmware/software is up to date. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Reset the SMC (System Management Controller) and re-calibrate the Battery then see how it behaves.

My MacBook Pro power adapter lights up orange even though it is not plugged into a device. When I do plug it into my laptop it remains the same and does not charge. Due to this my laptop is now dead. What does this orange light mean?

You should take both your MBP(Macbook Pro) and your power adapter to an Apple Genius bar or an AASP(Authorized Apple Service Provider) for a free evaluation. This is a strange occurance, and it seems that it may be a hardware malfunction.
Make an appointment so you don't have to wait too long.

  • Macbook pro auto wake from sleep every minute lid open or closed

    Macbook Pro 2.53, OSX10.8.5.
Since I installed Lion, my Macbook pro will not sleep for longer than one minure.
Even with the lid closed it still wakes up. Charger on or off.
Force sleep works, but auto wake after a minute.
Have reset SMC, deleted printers, sharing off, bluetooth off, and tried for over a year to find a solution.

Test after each of the following steps that you haven’t already tried:
    Step 1
Take all the steps suggested in this support article. That's the starting point for any further effort to solve the problem. Skipping any of those steps may mean that the problem won't be solved.
    Step 2
    From the menu bar, select
System Preferences ▹ Accessibility ▹ Speakable Items: Off
    Step 3
    Reset the SMC.
    Step 4
Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. Don’t launch any applications at first. If sleep still doesn’t work properly, back up all data and reinstall the OS. After that, if you still have the issue, make a “Genius” appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If sleep now works as expected, go on to the next step.
    Step 5
Still in safe mode, launch the usual set of applications that are running when you have the problem, including your login items, one at a time, testing after each one. Some applications may not work; skip them. You might be able to identify the cause of the problem this way.
    Step 6
If sleep is still working after you’ve launched all the usual applications, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test again. If sleep still works, you’re done, at least for the moment.
If you still have the sleep issue after booting out of safe mode, post again.
