Macbook Pro Batterie suddenly dies !

Hey,
as others reported my Macbook Pro 17" also died yesterday !
I just worked like I normally do and had about 80 % batterie life and then suddenly the Macbook Pro was off. No shutdown, no warning just stopped working ! I pressed the power button, the start sound came I saw the Apple and again it turned itself of, just like if you run on power cord only and suddenly remove the power cord. I tried again and it also turned itself of even before the grey apple appears. So I removed the batterie for about 10 sec. put it back in and ... now it is working for the moment. But what the **** was that ? Any explanation ? It happened between 92 % and 83 %.
About my Macbook Pro:
I have it for about 15 month and use it everyday and really like it cause of the ability to run workstation tasks on the street, but this batterie issue really argues with me.
Battery Information:
Model Information:
Serial Number: SMP-ASMB014-XXXX-XXX //I changed that !
Manufacturer: SMP
Device name: ASMB014
Pack Lot Code: 0001
PCB Lot Code: 0000
Firmware Version: 0102
Hardware Revision: 0202
Cell Revision: 0100
Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 4427
Fully charged: No
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 5696
Health Information:
Cycle count: 505
Battery health: Good
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): -2499
Voltage (mV): 11451
Any idea ? I am not sure if similar things happen again if I reach about 85 % of batterie, but I guess so. Therefore please help and tell me what to do, I have no idea. I am going to run to 0 % to re-calibrate the battery and hope that works but other ways ... . Never saw a battery stop working that suddenly.

I did the power management reset and now the numbers changed:
Model Information:
Serial Number: SMP-ASMB014-XXXX-XXX // I changed that !
Manufacturer: SMP
Device name: ASMB014
Pack Lot Code: 0001
PCB Lot Code: 0000
Firmware Version: 0102
Hardware Revision: 0202
Cell Revision: 0100
Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 1358
Fully charged: No
Charging: Yes
Full charge capacity (mAh): 3858
Health Information:
Cycle count: 506
Battery health: Good
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 3320
Voltage (mV): 11905
And istat also say only 61 % health left, that seems to be more realistic. I hope the battery now stops shuting down my Macbook Pro.

  • My MacBook Pro will suddenly quit while I'm working on it and restarts itself.

    I have a 2012 MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion with a 27-inch Apple Cinema Display connected to it that I use at work. I am an art director so I am constantly in Adobe Creative Suite 6. In the past month my MacBook Pro has suddenly quit on me while working and restarts itself TWICE. This time I was listening to a downloaded album on iTunes and the music started to skip right before the computer crashed and restarted itself. Has anyone ever experienced this before? It doesn't freeze up or anything like that, it will just unexpectedly go into Restart mode & the computer restarts. Everything is fine once it restarts but I am wondering if I should be concerned or if someone might know of a repair solution I could do on the computer. Should I run Disk Utilites to see if their is an issue? Would appreciate any comments and suggestions and feel free to ask may any question. THANKS!!

    If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CSeq "Previous Shutdown" | tail | open -f -a TextEdit
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
    The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
    A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Post the contents of that window, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

  • My Macbook pro 2011 suddenly has a really slow bootup. What can I do?

    My Macbook pro 2011 suddenly has a really slow bootup. What can I do? I did install a cannon printer upgrade and security upgrade. Not sure if it was something to do with that. Also I tried the disk utility repair and didn't improve anything. I also reset PRAM and SMC.

    1. Try booting in e Verbose mode - press and hold [cmd] + [v] keys just right after the boot chord sounds till you get a black screen and white letters.
    if there are some delays in the boot process  -  you should see where the system is stuck.
    this mode is not permanent - the next [re-] boot will be normal.
    2. repair permissions. disk utility does fine. Disk Warrior is better.
    sometimes after half done updates (it may happen though should not) there are items that are "belonging to someone else"
    3. try  cache cleaner (or there are some other utilities as well - I just like SlCC  more)  http://www.northernsoftworks.com/snowleopardcachecleaner.html - it's shareware though the basic functionality is free for you to use.
    Try caches -> deep cleaning (please read the developers site what it does) and select checkmark at all options - reply yes to the requests and after a reboot the next reboot should be as it is intended.
    p.s be sure you do have backup

  • Silent recall on MacBook Pro batteries

    http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=189
    "If it wasn't bad enough that to have processor and CPU whine, poor Airport reception and solar ambient temperatures, it appears that some early MacBook Pro batteries are now failing.
    Christopher Price from PCSIntel.com has uncovered what appears to be a potential issue with the first batch of MacBook Pro batteries.
    According to his blog entry "Now The MacBook Pro Batteries…" Chris' MBP battery fried last night and a bit of prodding from AppleCare got the serial number block. AppleCare said there was a known issue with some early MBP batteries and are cross-shipping out new ones to customers having similar symptoms.
    MacBook Pro serial numbers up to W8608 are potentially affected by the issue. This means that only the very first two weeks or so of MacBook Pros produced are potentially affected.
    In a story on the PowerPage "The MacBook Pro Serial Number Code" I explained how to decode your Mac's serial number: The first two digits are the FactoryID, the third is the year of manufacture and the fourth and fifth digits are the week of manufacture.
    A serial number starting with W8607 means that the unit was manufactured in facility W8 (Shanghai China) on the 7th week of 2006. My MBP 2.0GHz begins with W8607 and the full serial number means that it is production number 983 (within this week) according to Chipmunk.nl.
    - W8607 - Manufactured: Week of Feb 12, 2006
    - W8608 - Manufactured: Week of Feb 19, 2006
    - etc..
    Symptoms of a MacBook Pro battery problem include: power level going from a full charge to 90 percent, then immediately off. The battery usually either goes straight to one blinking LED or won't respond at all. Some may experience a significant loss of battery capacity as well.
    I have two batteries, one has a 6N606 serial number (original) and the other starts with 6N609 (less than a month old). I have yet to experience any battery problems with them. A quick check of Apple's Discussions forum (MacBook Pro > Power and Batteries on a MacBook Pro) yielded a couple of strange MBP battery oddities, but hardly a pandemic. Let's just hope this isn't the start of the MacBook avian flu."

    Hi jeff,
    It's good to see Apple replacing parts that fail. I believe this battery is a new design so it's not unlikely to see some with problems.
    I have a week 10 machine and even though my battery has not failed, it does have a random behavior. It might go as low as 2400mAh max charge... and when I'm about to call Apple I check again and it's up to 5600... I don't really like this and will eventually ask for a replacement.
    I was waiting for a firmware update that will fix this like it happened with the 1.67 hi-res PB's but nothing came up yet.
    We'll see.
    Best Regards

    My MacBook Pro died suddenly when I was removing a flash drive (LG up3 neon ps4) and is now both unresponsive and cannot be charged. Troubleshooting.... Is there anything I can do to fix it on my own? (There aren't any apple stores in my current country)

    Hello antol1n1,
    Sorry to hear your MacBook Pro is not charging or powering on.  Sometimes a System Management Controller reset can help with the following charging and power issues:
    Power
    The computer doesn't respond to the power button when pressed.
    A portable Mac doesn't appear to respond properly when you close or open the lid.
    The computer sleeps or shuts down unexpectedly.
    The battery does not appear to be charging properly.
    The MagSafe power adaptor LED doesn't appear to indicate the correct activity.
    To reset the System Management Controller on your MacBook Pro (with a built-in battery) , you can follow these steps:
    Shut down the computer.
    Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    You can find more information in the full article here:
    Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

    I hope this helps!
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • My macbook pro is suddenly running very poorly, can I do a system restore?

    As of not more than a week ago my MacBook Pro is suddenly locking up, running slow, unable to sync my iPhone with iTunes.  I thought my machine may have a virus, so I purchased and intalled Norton AntiVirus, but a system scan came up clean.  Whats the problem, how do I fix it?

  • My MacBook Pro is suddenly slower...is there an easy way to check for viruses?

    My MacBook Pro is suddenly slower...is there an easy way to check for viruses?

    OpsMgr have methods which can get all host classes. Here my own function which can solve your issue:
    function Get-SCOMClassProperty {
    param(
    [Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Configuration.ManagementPackClass]
    [Parameter(Mandatory = $true)]
    $ManagementClass,
    [Switch]
    [Parameter(Mandatory = $false)]
    $KeyOnly
    function Get-SCOMClassKeyProperty {
    param(
    $ManagementClass
    $ManagementClass.PropertyCollection | ? {$_.Key}
    If ($ManagementClass.Hosted) {
    Get-SCOMClassKeyProperty -ManagementClass $ManagementClass.FindHostClass()
    If ($ManagementClass.Base) {
    Get-SCOMClassKeyProperty -ManagementClass (Get-SCOMClass $ManagementClass.Base.Id)
    function Get-SCOMClassAllProperty {
    param(
    $ManagementClass
    $ManagementClass.PropertyCollection
    If ($ManagementClass.Base) {
    Get-SCOMClassAllProperty -ManagementClass (Get-SCOMClass $ManagementClass.Base.Id)
    $ManagementClassProperty = Get-SCOMClassKeyProperty -ManagementClass $ManagementClass
    If (!$KeyOnly) {
    $ManagementClassProperty += Get-SCOMClassAllProperty -ManagementClass $ManagementClass
    $ManagementClassProperty | Select-Object -Unique
    If you need to do it in SCOM 2007 R2 then you can try my scripts from this examples http://systemcenter4all.wordpress.com/2013/05/15/scom-monitoringclass-functions/. Last should work in 2007 R2 and in 2012. Example in thread will work only in 2012.
    For example just run command:
    New-SCOMManagementGroupConnection
    $ManagementClassName = "Microsoft.SQLServer.Database"
    $ManagementClass = Get-SCOMClass -Name $ManagementClassName
    Get-SCOMClassProperty -ManagementClass $ManagementClass -KeyOnly | select Name

  • MacBook Pro - After Battery dies I'm not able to type in login window, until forcing a restart

    Hi, as mentioned in the header : MacBook Pro - After Battery dies I'm not able to type in login window, until forcing a restart
    After the battery drains to 0% the computer switches off.... *Makes sense*
    Once I put the charger power chord back in for an extended period of time I hit the power button and then see the login screen.... *Makes sense*
    However it won't let me type into the login box therefore having to force a restart and lose any saved data or data open when it died of battery. *WEIRD*
    This happens every time my computer runs out of battery. I understand that obviously not letting the laptop die is a good idea, however it seems like there is something wrong as it allows me to login yet won't let me type anything...
    Any solutions? Anyone else experience this?
    I have an early 2012 MacBook Pro - 15 Inch Screen.

    Hi s4mboy,
    Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    I'd start with resetting the SMC and PRAM on the MacBook Pro:

    my MacBook pro 17'' suddenly shut down with a blink like if you pulled he plug on a old TV. What could course this?

    You can try running these tests.
    Apple Hardware Test doesn't catch everything, so even if it doesn't find a problem, you could have one.

    If the computer is still under warranty, you might want to get it checked.

  • Ok- I might need to be a bit more specific-- My MacBook Pro is suddenly making a whirling noise-- sometimes it's quiet but other times you can really hear it from across the room.  This just started happening-- it almost sounds like a tweeting noise --

    I submitted a question last night but wasn't specific enough-- My MacBook Pro is suddenly making a whirling noise when it's on.  Sometimes it's  not too loud-- but other times it almost sounds like a tweeting--  there is nothing in the DVD/CD drive--   Is this something I should have looked at?

    This is not normal. It is better to have it checked. Take it to the Apple Store.
    Best.

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro 13" sudden shutdown with no errors

    I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro 13" 2.66 GHz with 2x4GB of Crucial RAM, the original 320GB HDD and running OS X 10.10.1; however, this problem has already been bugging me back when I had Mavericks. For about a year and a half now my laptop would suddenly shutdown with a click sound. It first only did it about once every couple of weeks but now it'll sometimes do it within five minutes of turning it on. Sometimes it'll last a couple hours, and other times it'll last 5 seconds. It's not temperature related, because it'll do it whether it has just been turned on or been on for over an hour. I reset the PRAM and SMC, but that didn't fix it. I ran tests with Disk Utility and it said there were some issues with the disk. Disk Utility wasn't able to do it, so I repaired it with fsck in Single User Mode. I thought this was finally going to work, but within 15 minutes it shut down again. Finally I ran the Apple Hardware Test and put it through the extensive test. After it was done running, it said that everything was ok. So according to that there should be nothing wrong with the internal hardware. I would check in the console logs, and it would give me -2 and -60 for "Previous shutdown cause: ". At this point I have no idea what could be causing the problems.

    I took it in to the Genius Bar over the weekend, and they ran their tests on it. It passed with flying colors; including the battery, which is doing quite well for its age. So with that being said, they said that the problem is probably with the logic board since everything else came back ok. At this point, I am better off investing in a new computer since a new logic board goes for $400 without labor, and that is if the problem really is only with the logic board since that was their best guess, not definitive.

  • Why Does Retina MacBook Pro (2012) Suddenly Hibernate With Lid Open?

    I'd like to know why my Retina MacBook Pro (2012) at certain times suddenly go into Hibernate mode when I'm actively using it with the lid open and what I can do to prevent this.
    I know this is hibernate because of what I see in the Console logs and the fact that I can't trigger a wake by using the keyboard/trackpad/mouse.  Only the power button causes it to wake up.
    This usually happens when I wake it from sleep and plug it into an external monitor via HDMI to HDMI connection.   The lid is open and I use both displays.    This happens about 30 seconds to a minute after I wake from sleep.  At the time I'm not plugged into the power supply because I believe it's generally a good idea to let the batter drain and the recharge it.  The last time this happened it was about 35% to 40% charged.

    Is it possible there's a bug either with the displayed power or how remaining power is detected?
