MacBook Pro Battery and BootCamp

Hi.
Does anyone have the answer about the battery life using BootCamp with a MacBook Pro? Only getting 1hour to 1.5hour using Windows Vista. Many thanks.
Kyle

Hi and welcome to Discussions,
you might wanna try the Safe Boot options of Windows XP as described here http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B315222&x=10&y=11
The 'Safe Mode' and/or the 'Enable Boot Logging' might show ehther this is a driver or a services problem.

  • Macbook Pro: OSX and BootCamp Win 7 won't boot

Hi, I'm having a series of related issues.  I've got a macbook pro 5.2 (17", about 2 years old) with snow leopard installed, bootcamped with win 7.
Background: I was logged into Windows playing a game.  System hard locked so I powered down. When I power back on, I get this message:
    File: \Boot\Bcd
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
So, I power down to boot into OSX to see what's up.  This time, I get to the grey load screen and it just sits there and OSX doesn't load. I waited several minutes and nothing happened.  It wasn't locked (the progress wheel was spinning the whole time).  So, I power down, reboot trying safe mode.  It starts booting with the progress bar, but again it never loads.
So, I'm not at this point: I'm able to boot into the OSX installer from the DVD.  In the disk utility, at first my mac partition shows and my bootcamp partition does not, though when I run a verification, the bootcamp partition does eventually show up.  I tried running repair on it, but I get the error that the Mac parition cannot be unmounted (I'm booted from the DVD when this happens).  I haven't run verify on the mac volume only as it estimates 10 hours (trying it now), but I did run verify on the drive and it passed.  I just can't run a repair.
On the Windows side, when I boot from the install disc, it boots into the installer but it can't see an operating system installed when I try to use the repair feature there.  Suggests I get drivers for the hard drive, but I have no idea what drivers I need for that.
I have no other mac to run in target disk mode from.  I have an OSX installation on a firewire drive that I can boot into, but I can't get that to update from Leopard to Snow Leopard.  I have recent important files on both drives that I would really like to retrieve that aren't backed up.  Most topics I see regarding these issues seem to be regarding external storage disks, or for people already looking to do a fresh install.  I won't say that reformatting and reinstalling aren't an option, but if someone knows a way to get those files off first, I'd appreciate that.

the final part of the Win 7 install and Mr Blue screen due to the Nividia driver supplied on Win 7 DVD kills iMac GT7300
    1. Install... and Blue screen!
2.Re-boot but from the Win 7 install disk – seems to work if you hold alt on boot up and select the disk to boot from!
3.When you get into the Windows installer, click past the language selection. Then click "Repair your computer".
4.Windows will scan for installations and prompt you with a list. Select your "C" drive and click Next.
5.You should be presented with a windows titled *System Recovery Options*.
At the bottom of this list you should see +Command Prompt+.
    Select the command prompt.
6.When the console opens, you can delete the offending driver using the following command:
    DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\NVLDDMKM.SYS
7.Close the command prompt window and click the Restart button.
This time, boot from your hard disk.
You will complete the install with no Blue screen.
Having done this go to the Nivida web site and download the GT 7 series drivers for Windows 7.
    Install, re-boot and ...
+*... install Bootcamp drivers and right off your back to Blue Screen...*+
Repeat 1-7 and install newly downloaded drivers and off you go

  • Macbook pro battery and ac

Can I use my macbook pro 15 early 2012 always with ac or this can damage battery?

It will not damage your battery.  I do that all the time.  At least once per month use the MBP with the battery and let is discharge to about the 30% level and then recharge.

  • How can I use SDXC on MacBook Pro Retina and Bootcamp?

I bought a Patriot LX Series 128GB SDXC card recently for my MacBook Pro Retina. When I insert it on Mac, it is recognized no problem. In Windows 8 (on Boot Camp), it scans indefinitely and often-time it crashes Windows Explorer, just to insert it. Has anyone had any issues with SDXC on Boot Camp? For me, it's just not working.

    Lion tech Specs: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP629
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
But the latest Aperture requires 10.7.5 at least; I cannot find the TechSpecs for that system, if I remember correctly 64 bit processor was mandatory, same as for Mt. Lion.
One other thought - if both systems cannot be upgraded to the same OS, why not create a Snowleopard partition on the newer mac and have both machines run Aperture 3.2.4. This would require to restore the previous version of the Aperture library from backup, however.

    Any ideas??

    previous version of 10.4....
Same problem here, but replying the combo installer didn't do the trick -- before the 10.4.9 update the computer ran nice and cool, and fans only came on under heavy heavy processor load (with 'Fan Control' 1.1 at a medium setting). After the update, even with 'Fan Control' at maximum, the fans were suddenly going most of the time and computer was hot hot hot.
I reapplied the update from the Combo installer, and reinstalled 'Fan Control' just to be sure, but I'm noticing the same problem still -- running almost no processor load and the computer is hot and the fans are whirring.
Anyone have any other ideas? Cheers.

  • MacBook Pro - Battery and Trackpad Heat Issue

    Hi,
I purchased my MBPro 15-inch in December of 08 (so unibody type). For the last few months, after a couple of hours, the trackpad becomes unusable. You can't "click" and navigating around the screen clicks and unclicks and is general extremely sensitive.
When I remove the battery, it works fine (but you have to keep the power supply connected or it dies instantly). As of this week, when I replace the battery, it goes straight back to the problem. Previously, I would get 15-30 minutes of "normal" usage and then the problem would reassert itself.
Should I just get a new battery? Is this the kind of issue that Apple had previously on non-unibody MBPros and required a mass recall and replace of batteries?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is likely the same issue which resulted in a recall of swollen batteries (Battery Update). Have you carefully checked your battery for any signs of swelling or leaking? If you do have a swollen battery, stop using it immediately and get a replacement. You don't want to risk permanent damage to your Mac.
The battery doesn't even have to be in use. Some time ago, someone posted a picture of a spare battery that had never been in a machine, but which had still swelled up and come apart.
There seems to be some question as to whether this is to be expected of all these batteries, or if it is an indication of a factory defect. For this reason, people have had mixed results trying to get the battery replaced for free from Apple. Generally, if you've been able to get 300 cycles out of your battery, your battery is just considered worn out and your chances of a free replacement are remote. If this happens on a newer battery with fewer cycles, I believe decisions are made on a case by case basis.
I actually hope that swelling is a characteristic of a defective battery and not something expected to happen to all of them. Especially since the new Unibody Macs now have a built-in battery that is not supposed to be user replaceable.
    Good luck!

  • MacBook Pro Battery and CPU behavior

I realized, when i do not have the abttery inside the macbook, what i do not fotne, to save chargecycles, that my cpu wil not go above 1ghz. i observed this with the use of the coreduotemp application, wich can be free downloaded and monitors temperature and cpu speed of your macbook. i wrote to the developper, and he confirms that observation, so it is not an software bug.
First, i invite you to test this on your macs and report, and secound i would like to have a solution, i bought this mac for power, not for slow power. maybe someone knows how to disabe this PMU behavior, thx

This is not true! I use CoreDuoTemp as well and I can get the full power of my CPU on batteries.

  • Macbook pro battery and service from apple

I have just bought the MBP online on the student package where you are supposed to get a free ipod nano by sending back a form to get the refund. I phoned apple about this and no-one knew what to do I was passed to 3 different departments then I was told to go to the apple website and download the form to send it back. I did this and when I got to the site there were lots of downloadable forms and none of them specified anything to do with student packages and free ipod nano's. I have also discovered that the battery doesnt seem to last very long and overheats. This is worrying me slightly as an over heating battery could be a fire hazzard and I spent just over 1400 pounds with upgrades at that price I would expect it to be running perfectly can anyone tell me if this is normal for the battery to overheat and is it normal for the battery to last less than a day. Also will I recieve terrible aftercare from apple all the time. every time I phone no-one seems to know what to do. the last time I called the guy actually tried to pretend he couldnt hear me to get me off the phone until he realised that he was caught out and the line was fine. it seems they will go to any length not to help you.

how does the battery overheat? the mbp can certainly get hot, but if it is only the battery getting hot then you should call technical support
operating time on battery depends on how heavily the system is being used, editing/rendering video flattens mine in 2-3 hours, but with casual use it lasts much longer
you must order the ipod at the same time you order the mac, then once it is all delivered you submit a claim online and apple gives you back £95
the terms are all on the website...

The firmware update corrects an error that may occur, however the techs would have checked the condition of the battery prior to installing a new one.  If the battery was questionable, the firmware update was really not too important.
You can check the battery condition by going to the apple, left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power and see what it says about Cycle Count, Condition, Capacity: Condition anything but Normal needs to be checked and may need to be replaced.
The cycle count of 1,000 charge cycles is the typical life of a Lithium-Ion battery, the point at which the capacity drops to 80% of the as built capacity.

Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (on my MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air via remote disk. In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?

I don't know first hand if you can use the Remote Disk option with Windows but as of 10.7.2 you can now use BCAssistant to make a bootable USB (thumb drive or external disk) W7 installer with the Boot Camp drivers installed also. Have you tried that yet?

  • MacBook and MacBook Pro Battery Update

    http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/
Apple has recently discovered that some batteries used in its MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks may have battery performance issues. Apple is offering a software update that is designed to improve battery performance.
The battery update is available immediately via Software Update or downloadable here.
Note: The factors causing the performance issues do not present a safety risk. You may continue to use your current battery.
This battery update should be run on all MacBook and MacBook Pro computers and extra batteries that were purchased between February 2006 and April 2007.
If, after you have installed the battery update, your battery has any of the symptoms listed below, please make a reservation to bring your computer with its battery to your local Apple Retail Store, or contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP), or call your local Apple Support Contact Center. If Apple or an AASP determines that your battery is eligible for replacement, you will receive a new battery, free of charge, even if your MacBook or MacBook Pro is out of warranty.
For MacBook and MacBook Pro systems with Intel Core Duo processors, this program extends repair coverage on the battery for up to two years from the date of purchase of the computer.
    Identifying an affected battery
Affected batteries will have one or more of the following symptoms:
Battery is not recognized causing an “X” to appear in the battery icon in the Finder menu bar.
Battery will not charge when computer is plugged into AC power.
Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300.
    Battery pack is visibly deformed.
Note: If your MacBook or MacBook Pro battery does not have any of the symptoms noted above, your battery does not need to be replaced.
    Next Steps
To participate in this worldwide program, your MacBook or MacBook Pro battery must show the symptoms noted above. If it does, please make a reservation to bring your computer and battery to your local Apple Retail Store, or contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP), or call your local Apple Support Contact Center. The U.S. support number is 1-800-275-2273. If you are located outside the U.S., please see Apple's international contact list for your local Apple Technical Support phone number. An Apple technical support representative or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) will determine if the battery is eligible for replacement, free of charge. Customers are responsible for transportation costs to eligible AASPs and retail stores.
If a replacement battery is sent to you via airmail, it is important that you return the older battery to Apple so that it can be properly recycled.
This program extends repair coverage on the battery for up to two years from the date of purchase of the computer for Intel Core Duo-based MacBook and MacBook Pro computers. Apple will continue to evaluate the battery update program and will provide further extensions as needed. Apple also reserves the right to modify the program if other solutions that address the battery performance issues become available.

For MacBook and MacBook Pro systems with Intel Core Duo processors, this program extends repair coverage on the battery for up to two years from the date of purchase of the computer.
Pretty nice change for those C2D's

  • Dota 2 and Macbook pro battery

My early 2011 15 inch macbook pro battery drains while connected with 85w charger when i am playing dota 2. Dota 2 runs faily well with very little lag in almost high setting. Shouldn't 85w charger provide adequte power for gaming. Dota 2 is not even a very demanding game. I have only played few small 2d games in my pro and this may be the first time i am playing a 3d game. And also sometimes it doesnt drain even when i play 2-3 matches but most of the other times it drains in single match. I have yet to see it drain down 90% but still. What options do i have to fix this? I am graphic designer so i sometimes do video editing in my macbook pro and i m quite sure some of those renderings are more system hungry than dota 2 and no drain while doing that. Thanks in advance.

What do you mean it didn't work? Are you having a battery issue that the update did not fix? Need some more info. If you look at the webpage that I linked to, it advises to have affected batteries replaced.

Note: If your MacBook or MacBook Pro battery does not have any of the symptoms noted above, your battery does not need to be replaced.
If you're replacing batteries every 3 months I would take a look at how you are maintaining your battery. Are you calibrating it when it arrives and then every 6 to 8 weeks afterword? Are you running graphically intensive programs? Do you have a lot of background process in your activity monitor that are taxing the system? Most folks I have seen post here find their battery issues resolved after a replacement, not recurring every 3 months.
