Macbook Pro battery getting too hot

Hi,
I got my macbook nearly 2 months ago. its 2012 13"macbook pro n i have running mountain lion 10.8.2.The left side gets too much hot.i think its battery. its my clothes like jeans which keep me save otherwise, it would burn my skin! the heat up happens within 15-30 mins. i have istat and its telling me my fan exhaust is between 3k-4k.sometimes it even goes to 6.5k. I also have issue of battery. i read that after 10.8.2 update the battery isssue get solved but mine got worse. i get 3 to 3.5 hours tops. what is wrong. should i get it fixed because its just months old and being so much heat up n instead of 7 hrs i get 3 hrs.

What programs are running?
This is the biggest factor in battery life and fan speed. For example, I have Safari open at the moment. If I open World of Warcraft my computer will do exactly what you have described and if I close it again it will go back to "normal".

  • Macbook pro charger getting too hot

Seems like the ADP-85 EBT charger is getting unusually hot when I am charging and using the computer at the same time.  You can hold the transformer, but it is uncomfortable.  I have seen a lot of complaints about this.  I will take my meat thermometer and get a reading.  Any thoughts?
    Output rated 18.5v X 4.6A = 85.1 W

If your adapter "brick" is resting on a soft surface like upholstery, bedclothes or a carpet, it will heat up more than normally because air can't circulate freely around it. Rest it on a hard flat surface, just like the MBP itself.
The charger will also get hotter when the machine is in use than when it isn't, all other things being equal, because more power is being drawn from the adapter to power whatever you're doing. When charging the battery is all that's happening, the adapter doesn't need to supply nearly as much power, and runs considerably cooler.
It's also true that the charging process itself draws more power and generates more heat early in a charge, i.e. when the battery is deeply drained, than it does later, when the battery is closer to fully charged. The charging current tapers off sharply as full charge approaches.
If none of these little explanations seems to address the circumstances at hand or the behavior you've observed, you can always take your machine and adapter to a Genius Bar and have them tested without charge. Just make an appointment first:

my macbook pro will get really hot within minutes of using it. The the screen will just go black.  The only way to fix it is to restart the computer. This has been happening for about 2 years and now is so bad I can barely use the computer. HELP

  • Is it normal for a 2011 2.2 macbook pro to get really hot while watching a HD youtube video?

Is it normal for a 2011 2.2 macbook pro to get really hot while watching a HD youtube video? The fans get really loud and everything gets pretty hot when im just watching some lame video on youtbe thats HD? for a 2.2 quadcore wth 1gb of video ram this is an issue? I would think it wouldnt even phaze it.

never heard of perian. its a quicktime player? would this help?
Give Allan's advice a try. I'm curious to see how that works for you.
4GB RAM could be part of the issue. Open Activity Monitor, select System Memory and see what it says for Page ins, Page outs, and Swap used.
Perian isn't a necessity, but those three together usually cover all the different formats you might encounter.

  • Macbook Pro 2012 gets extremely hot when playing games on windows par.

So im just playing some games like BF4, Skyrim, etc and all of a sudden studder, the metal heats up, and whats missing? The fans! They dont even bother to turn on to keep things cool like on the OS X side.
Anyway to get the fans running like they do on the OS X par? I dont want to overheat my mac.
    Thanks

I can't tell if your Mac is getting too hot without knowing the actual temperatures,  but they do run hotter in Windows, hottest with games.
But reinstalling the support software should eliminate that from the puzzle.

  • Is it normal that my macbook pro cpu runs too hot?

I downloaded the smcfan control since my laptop was running too hot and I only bought it 3 days ago.
It says that my temperature goes up to 90c sometimes and it is too hot to even touch!!
I am a bit worried, I adjusted the fan settigs to higher rpm and it seems to help a lot, but why is it so the fans are not automatically adjusting when the temperature is so high? Is there something wrong with my laptop - I could still get it replaced with a new one since I just bought it..
    My specs are:
    MacBook pro 15" 2011
    i7 proccessor
    4GB or ram
    Thanks in advance!

194º F / 90c is the typical temperature if your doing a lot of heavy CPU load.
Check your Activity Monitor in your Utilities for any runaway processes.
If you first boot your machine and it gets these sort of tempertures with nothing else running, you very well indeed have a problem.
The average temperture using smcFanControl with default Apple fan speeds should be about 120º F cold boot, at idle/light load (just a simple browser window no video) CPU in a 78º F enviroment.
Iv'e bumped my minimum fan speed to 4000 RPM, and thus my smc reported temperture is about 100ºF for those same conditions.
If you way above these typical conditions (others report about the same) then yes I would uninstall smcFanControl and then take the machine in for a evaluation, you could have a dead fan or sensor, etc.

  • My macbook pro retina gets very hot and slow

whenever i use my macbook pro retina for an extended amount of time 1-2 hours watching videos online or playing games it gets very hot, starts lagging and gets unresponsive, i can only use it with a fan underneath basically, my old macbook pro had a similar problem, it took like 3 weeks of them checking it to find a problem which took them another couple of weeks to fix, i cannot be without my laptop for any extended period of time. fans inside seem to be working fine, but it still get incredibly hot... please help!!!

Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity

i have no idea what the memory cards are. some have suggested i should replace memory cards?

I don't really know about the new models as far as typical operating temperatures. The ones you mention are not meaningfully high to me. My 2011 13" MBP with an i5 CPU typically idles near 50º C.
As for the speed issue that is hard to evaluate on the basis of personal opinion. You can download and run GeekBench benchmarks and compare the results to those reported for the same model configuration. You can use CineBench to benchmark video performance.

  • Macbook Pro 13 Getting Super Hot!

This is my second question on the communities! I'm loving my Macbook pro 13 (non retina) but I'm a big Minecraft player,  I found that when playing minecraft after about 10 or so mins the fans would get really really loud.  So I downloaded temperature monitor and watched the temps, as soon as a cracked up Minecraft my GPU (intergrated) was reaching 95c without the fans getting super loud and the CPU proximity was about 75-80c.  So... is there something I can do to improve my temperature or am I just going to have to stop doing semi-graphicly intensive tasks.  On the other hand I have enough to buy myself an iMac?  So would an iMac be able to handle it at a much lower temperature?  I know i'm a noob but I recently got a Mac and am really new to this.  Thanks in advance

Installing Mt. Lion will not increase the performance of your MBP.  actually it may slow it down.  10.6.8 is still the most efficient OS from Apple.
I suggest installing a larger and faster HDD.  A 7200 rpm drive or perhaps a hybrid.  A SSD is still too expensive for the advantages it affords (my opinion).
Backup up your data to an external HDD and do a 'clean' install.  Erase the internal HDD and reinstall 10.6.8.
From the external HDD, select what you want and leave the 'junk' behind.  This can result in a rejuvenated MBP.
Regarding the heat issue, I suggest opening the MBP and see if there is dust and debris inside.  If so clean it out.  A clean reinstall should resolve any software issues unless you have third party applications such as AV apps or MacKeeper or the like.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 getting really hot?

I have an early 2011 macbook pro 15" monitor.  Lately, I haven't been able to even touch the bottom of my laptop because of how hot it gets.  Here's the temperatures and fan:  Right now, it's cool enough to pick up, but about twenty minutes ago the computer got really hot and the fans didn't sound like they were on very high (this was before I downloaded the widget to see the actual values). I was also only using Chrome, no other apps. I started to notice this when I started using facetime: the fans suddenly didn't spin like crazy when the temperature rose.  Is there any fix/tip/help for this?  I will try and update once I get the higher temperature to appear again.

    Hi t,
You can try an app such as SMC Fan Control which will allow you to set the fans to the speed of your preference.

  • Macbook pro retina gets extremely hot!

    Hey guys,
I have a Macbook Pro Retina with all the settings on max (see below). I like to play games like Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft howvere when I open these up my macbook starts going crazy! The fans all turn on and the CPU get extremely hot! I mean like 92°C hot! I opened up activity monitor and found out that when running World of Warcraft it used 140-160% of the CPU (which of course in impossible!!).
Thanks in advance for any advise!

Please comment with any further questions and I will try to get you any information!

    A few things:
    1. All macbook pros get hot (retina and non-retina).  Folks here will tell you that the system will slow down (or in extreme cases shutdown) to protect the hardware.  I find this concerning but it is what it is...
    2. Games can use multiple cores which is why you are seeing > 100%
    3. 92 celcius is hot but within the operating parameters from what I have seen
    4. Some folks use stands (anything from purchased stands to pencils) to lift the computer off of the underlying surface to allow for improved circulation.
    Hope this helps.

  • Macbook Pro is getting extremely hot and fan seems to be making a lot of noise when running windows 7

I recentely installed windows 7 on my Macbook Pro 15' late 2008 maybe 10-15 minutes into browsing the internet or watching a youtube video it gets really hot and the computer fans seem to be making a lot of noise. Is there any way to resolve this issue?

  • Macbook Pro 15" gets really hot

My Macbook Pro 15" (bought few years ago. i think it's 2010 or 2011 model) gets sometimes really hot. It's ok when I use it for browsing or programming or reading etc. but when using flash (eg. youtube) or pipelight, it starts to get hot. After some ten minutes flash starts making the laptop hot. Sensors reports 80 °C which is just below the "high". With pipelight it gets even hotter and when I tried minecraft it got _really_ hot as soon as I started the actual game (not in the menu), almost 100 °C which is the "critical" line. I'm using cinnamon as my DE (which actually doesn't matter because I also tried without DE). My fans are working correctly, at least I think so because they are humming and sensors reports about 3000 rpm when running flash. (about 6000 when running minecraft). On OS X I don't have this problem.  I hope there's something I can do for this. I really have no idea after reading tons of "linux getting hot" topics online. I'm still a little bit noob with linux so if someone has an idea how to solve this I'd appreciate clear explanation.
    Thank you for helpping!
EDIT: Reading from some forums about macbook pro getting hot I've found that the normal operating temperature is actually 50 - 100 °C. So maybe it's ok.

i had similar issues w/ debian on my hp machine. here's some ideas to try:
    1. make sure your graphic card is installed &  configured correctly
    2. install powertop and thermald and setup a good configuration
    3. take a look at cpu frequency scaling and maybe dial it down a bit.

  • My macbook pro is getting really hot when I leave it running but put the screen down.   When I open it only shows password box not rest of screensaver.  I'm not doing anything differently

The past 2 days my MacBook pro has been running really hot, especially when I close it.  When I open it the screensaver doesn't show completely.  Yesterday when I moved the mouse it made spiral trails with the graphics, very strange.  I'm really concerned!  Help... I've restarted it, powered it off last night, etc.

You can always take your Mac in and give it a check-up for free. What will cost you is the repairs you select to have preformed. I recommend shutting your Mac down before you go to bed. Problem solved. There is no need for you to keep it running if all applications are quit. Why do you need it on?
