Macbook Pro Battery won't charge - help please

Hi Guys
We have two MBP - one the previous model with the removable battery. I repaced the battery a little under two years ago on this one and it doesn't get heavy use, but now it's not taking any charge at all. Here's what I get from the system info....
Battery Information:
  Model Information:
  Manufacturer:          SMP
  Device Name:          ASMB012
  Pack Lot Code:          2
  PCB Lot Code:          0
  Firmware Version:          110
  Hardware Revision:          500
  Cell Revision:          200
  Charge Information:
  Charge Remaining (mAh):          0
  Fully Charged:          No
  Charging:          No
  Full Charge Capacity (mAh):          0
  Health Information:
  Cycle Count:          154
  Condition:          Replace Now
  Battery Installed:          Yes
  Amperage (mA):          0
  Voltage (mV):          4628
As you can see, not many cycles so I'm confused as to why it's dead. I've done the SMC reset and I know the charger works as it's charging our other MBP (with internal battery). Anybody got any smart ideas what may be wrong and wehther it's fixable without laying out £100 on a new battery.
Many thanks
Phil

Phil,
All batteries fail at some point, whether in an automobile, flashlight, computer or anything else.  The ratings on longevity are statistical norms, not specific guarantees for an individual battery.  Lithium-Ion batteries of the type Apple uses, particularly the SMP products, have a typical life of 1,000 cycles.  An individual battery may fail earlier, or later.  Factors affecting the life may include temperature exposure and charge cycle treatment, such as frequent deep discharge of the battery.
Your battery may very well have failed cells judging from the voltage and current information.  That cannot be repaired any way but by replacement of the entire battery.
If a new battery does not seem to be acting right, you might want to consider having the charging circuitry tested to make sure there is not a fault with that.
At this point the only real option is to replace the battery.

  • MacBook Pro battery won't charge

    Hi
I just bought a new battery for my MacBook Pro (a1226). The old battery had over 900 cycles and didn't hold any charge.
Apple quoted around £100 for a new battery which is about a quarter of what the machine is worth so I decided to look on eBay for a cheaper alternative. So for £20 my battery came along and all was well and good. The new battery appeared good, it held it's charge. I could get more than an hour of unplugged action out of my machine.
It now says 'Not Charging' and when I unplug the macg safe it intantly dies.
Here is what the computer says about the battery -
Now I have followed these steps regarding restting the SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Plus I have reset the PRAM.
Now I realise I have probably bought a dud battery off eBay but surely there is a better alternative than spending £100 on an apple one?
    Many Thanks
    Tom

"You get what you pay for."
Purchase another battery, return the old one and make the time to calibrate. All new batteries for your model MBP need to be calibrated within a week of purchase and/or prior to usage.  You will need to read your manual or the KB Article.
Your other option:  If you have AppleCare, give them a call & let them deal w/it.  If not, take your MBP to your local Apple Store or AASP.  Let them properly diagnose the problem and provide you w/a repair estimate.
this involves fully charging it and disconecting the power and letting the battery run down and then plugging the charger in, letting it fully charge and keep it at that state for a few hours.
    Not quite right.

  • 2011 17" Macbook Pro battery won't charge

Troubleshooting for my kid.   A 2011 17" macbook pro was taken in for a new logic board a year ago.  When she got it home she just put it in a closet and used her newer MacAir.  Now that a real fix is available she's dragged it out and hooked it up.  It fails to charge.  The light on the magsafe is green.  It will operate on being plugged in but as soon as the cord is removed it dies.  We aren't quite sure what the issue maybe because she never booted it up immediately after the logic board was installed and they did not wipe the hard drive as they told her that did.  We've tried the SMC reset to no avail.  I'd just like some opinions before I take it back to the Apple store for her.  Thanks

  • My macbook pro battery won´t charge

Just purchased my new mac, and after about three weeks, the battery stopped charging. The mac runs fine with the charger plugged in, but it´s light isn´t on and i get the message that the battery is not charging, to add to that the battery power lever never changes no matter how long the charger has been in...what could be wrong with it?

You've had the computer for only three weeks and free AppleCare is good for fifty-two weeks. Don't worry about what's wrong with it; let Apple deal with it. Call AppleCare: 800-APL-CARE (800-275-2273)

    Reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
It's clear that the battery has got enough capacity to work correctly, so something happens with the MagSafe port or its charger. If you have another charger, try it, and if not, take the MacBook and the charger to an Apple Store or reseller. It's better to do this as we don't know if the problem is in the charger or in the MacBook Pro

  • MacBook Pro (2011) Won't Charge Without Restart

Hi guys, I searched the forums for this problem but couldn't find a match. When I plug the power cable into my 2011 17" MacBook Pro it won't take a charge and the light on the cable doesn't come on. However if I restart the computer, the light will come on and it will start charging. This sounds like a software issue to me and I haven't had the problem until recently so I'm guessing it's caused by the latest OS X update. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue and found a fix?

My new MacBook pro won't charge to 100% battery it will only charge to 99%. Please help!

Nothing is wrong, that is normal.  If you let it drop below 93%, it will recharge back to 100%.  It is a feature to prolong the life of the battery.

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro battery will not charge after plugging in firewire cable shut down computer

I have a mid 2010 15" Macbook pro with Lion installed.
I was running off battery, and I went to plug in a firewire cable, not plugged into anything, and when I inserted it, the computer shut off.
The computer would not turn on again without being plugged into the AC adaptor. The magsafe charger shows green, but the computer says not charging. The battery is showing 57%, but the indicator lights will only light up when AC charger is connected..
I have let it sit off, and plugged in for a couple hours, and nothing chages, and let it sit overnight not plugged in, but nothing.
I have read other forums about the same issue,, it seems like its a common issue, and some have said what it could be, but no one said what it IS.
I have tried resetting the SMC and PRAM, but to no avail.

  • Late Macbook Pro 2011 won't charge via MagSafe adapter.

My friends Macbook Pro 2011 same as mine wont charge the battery via MagSafe adapter. The battery is good and the adapter also, ive checked them on my Mac. The problem is that on her Mac it won't charge. I've change the MagSafe adapter on her computer and it didn't work still no charge, no green light on the L shaped adapter. Can it be the Logic Board?

Resetting SMC could solve the problem.

  • Macbook Pro battery is not charging but the battery meter is full

    Hi guys!
I have a 19 months macbook pro. I've tried using 2 different AC adapter but my mac's battery is still at 0% and the status says "Battery is not charging". I think my battery is dead but the LED battery indicator on my battery shows 5 lights, means its at full power.
I've tried to disconnect the AC cable and remove the battery, then press the power button for 10 sec but nothing change when i start my mac again...i also tried to reset my PRAM ( i think ) by holding a cmdopt+PR while rebooting but it didn't help to solve the problem too. I also have the battery update 1.2 installed on my mac and the results is still the same.
This is my battery info from system profiler. I hope someone can tell me what to do before I visit the Apple store.

    Hello,
I am having some strange battery behavior. I bought a FastMac TruePower Battery that is supposed to have extended capacity. Now when the battery dies, i plug in my MagSafe to charge it and it immediately says 'not charging', but then begins to charge. It either continues to charge and gets stuck at 80% or so and reads "calculating" in the menu bar, or just jumps between 'charging' and 'not charging'. The symptoms are very strange, and FastMac already sent this battery back saying it passes all of their tests. I do not want to send it back again because they charged me to send it back to myself even though it still does not work as advertised. I have my original Macbook Pro Apple battery which still charges fine, so i assume it is a problem with the battery based on a simple process of elimination.

  • MacBook Pro wont stop rebooting, need help please

Ok so my story is that I bought a used 2008-2009 MacBook Pro. It was running mountain lion, I tried to restore it to factory settings to undo the "open to all access" option. Since I didn't have the mountain DVD at that time I restarted it and did the command-r. Now however, it will not stop rebooting, it'll chime and reach the grey screen apple logo with the little wheel but then restart and again, reach the same screen then restart again, and again etc etc. Now since I am completely new to Mac, I had no idea about time capsule, so and can't use that either. I have tried repeatedly to use the command-r action but it won't work. It just doesn't wanna boot up from the HD. I am think of either acquiring the leopard DVD, or taking it to a tech and probably waste even more money. Is there anything else I can do, any suggestion will be appreciated.

Take it to the nearest Apple Store. They can help, and there is no charge if you don't need to replace hardware (which you shouldn't).

John, please refrain from posting your personal email in these threads.  It is not necesary and all communication to you can be done directly in these forums.  Posting your email address can open up you to tons of unwanted spam, among other things.  Really all you can do is search the internet for them.  My suggestion would be to google "case for late 2007 macbook pro".
One will probably be very hard to find for a 6 year old model as it is on the borderline of being considered "vintage".  Ebay may be a good place to try too.

    Hi,
New to posting on here.  I installed 10.9.3 2 days ago and since then I have had an X over my battery icon.  Having checked hardware it doesn't even recognise that a battery is there.  Only works now with power lead plugged in.  The Macbook Pro is about 18 months old.  Would really appreciate any help!

  • SMC Reset and Macbook Pro Battery still not charging

Hi, I bought a new Macbook Pro the Christmas before last (2 years ago) and unfortunately didn't remember to buy the AppleCare. (Didn't have the money to purchase it as I was buying the computer) Anyway, today my charger decided to stop recharging the battery. The battery icon says the battery is charging but the LED light on the charger is not on at all and when I click on the battery status it says "Battery is Not Charging." I've already tried the usual troubleshooting and Resetting the SMC but it didn't work. I also checked the status on the battery and my computer said it was Normal. What else can I do? I really need this laptop for college and the battery has to be usable.

If available, try a different charger.
