Macbook Pro Blue tint

I am using a 2011 macbook pro with Lion, not mountain lion. This morning the screen started to glitch and then gave me a blue tint. I already tried to fix it with the graphic card. I am afraid it is internal. Let me know if you have any thoughts. Thanks!

Thanks. But unfortunately the "More Like This" posts (including your link) — and all the others I've been able to find — are very old or prior to 10.8.2. For example the one you link to is from 2008 (and the solution doesn't fix my problem).
The blue tint issue was heavily discussed on 10.8.1. And as stated, after 10.8.2 a lot of people reported that the issue had now been fixed. But 10.8.2 didn't fix it for me.
I haven't been able to find anyone on 10.8.2 that has the problem and has been able to fix it properly. My own temporary solution is that I'm forcing my Mac to run integrated gfx only. Hardly optimal.
Suggestions for any proper 10.8.2 solution would be greatly appreciated.

• Macbook pro blue screen appears randomly - any ideas as to its cause?

I have a macbook pro (mid 2011 15") and intermittently when using the internet the screen goes blue (like the blue screen when starting up). I have to close the lid to put it to sleep and then reopen it in order to continue using the computer. I have had it looked at twice by Apple technicians, on the first occasion the operating system (Snow Leopard) was reinstalled and on the second diagnostic checks were run on the RAM and logic board. However, the problem occurs infrequently and couldn't be reproduced while in Apple's hands. On neither occasion was a problem / fault identified yet the randomly occuring blue screen has persisted. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has any idea as to the cause of the problem and a possible solution.

at first step, try to change yor RAM / memory with other memory's MBP.and used it several hours.because some MBP early 2011 got blue screen because that hardware.
good luck.

• Brand new macbook pro - blue screen of death?

I received my 15" macbook pro in the mail only 10 days ago. I noticed that it seemed a little bit slow every once in a while. Today I ran software update. As it began the process of the auto-reboot, it got stuck on the purpley-spacey-image with a pinwheel for WAY longer than it should have. It became apparent that it wasn't going anywhere.
I then did a hard power-off, and a safe re-boot. After the progress bar completed, it moved to the dreaded blue screen. The rotating gear would appear, then disappear with a changing of shade on the blue screen. Again, I waited WAY too long. It again became apparent that it was going no where. Hard power-off, safe-reboot. Same problem. Hard power-off, normal boot. Same problem, but this time with no gear. What should I do? I'm stuck on the blue screen.
I've not installed hardly any software - dropbox and prey are the only two I can think of. I'm using Snow Leopard, not Windows.
Thank you very much for your help,
Dave

OK! For the benefit of anyone else who has this problem I have solved it. I downloaded the latest driver from the Marvell Yukon website (http://www.marvell.com) but went for the 88E8053 driver - picked that up from a blog elsewhere talking about Win XP 64 bit installs - then uninstalled the Ethernet card driver from Device Manager and restarted. When XP rebooted it automatically found the new hardware and apparently reinstalled the driver (not sure if it was from the drivers it already had or from my download) and now it doesn't crash when enabled. Happy Times!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope this saves someone the several hours I've just wasted...

• Can anyone help me? MacBook pro, blue screen

Hi can anyone help me please? I have a MacBook pro (13") I had an unexpected error (error code -10813), I now have a blue screen and all my apps at the bottom dock have disappeared. The time & date is in a different font (what looks to be like the safe mode font I remember from my old desktop!) I can't click on the apple sign at the top, when I do the few items on my desktop that are there disappear as the multicoloured wheel spins as it freezes for a few seconds. And anything I click on has this error code. It all happened when I was deleting music from my iTunes then I was forced to turn off with a message saying switch off from power button. since then dreaded blue screen! Thanks if you know how to help

Kind of hard to determine, try Safe mode and Repair disk etc
Perhaps you can get away with just reinstalling OS X and that will fix it

• Older Macbook Pro Blue Screen

I have a 2006 Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard. 15" Display. Had a problem with a blue screen appearing for various small amounts of time primarily when viewing video on the Internet. Usually only occurred during 1st half hour of use. After that no problem. I took it to the shop and they replaced the system board less than 1 year ago. That did not correct the problem. It is still occurring and seems to be lasting for longer periods of time (anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds) but eventually does stop during that particular use. Can anyone point me in the right direction to finding out why this is happening? Originally started about 1.5 years ago. Thanks in advance.

Hi William,
Wow, that's a strange one. I'm trying to think of why it would happen in the first 30 minutes. Normally, heat causes issues, but I suppose there could be some situations that heat helps resolve.
If it's hardware related, once you replace the LB, it doesn't leave a whole lot. It could be the display data cable, but I sure wouldn't bet too much on that.
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Core-Duo-Model -A1150-Display-Data-Cable/1210/1
Was RAM replace with the new LB? If not, you could try some RAM swapping (remove one module, boot/run; switch same module to other slot, boot/run; repeat with other module).

• Macbook Pro Blue is Purple, why?

I just bought a Macbook Pro 3 days ago. I upgraded from Macbook Black. I noticed that many of the blue colors look more purple than blue (for example when you do a search in Google, the letters are supposed to look blue and they look purple). I went back to the Apple Store and the rest of the Macbook Pros are the same so they said there's nothing they can do.
Does anyone have the same problem? Is there a better color profile I can use?
Thank you.

Yes I have and I get the same result. Any other ideas?
Thanks for the reply

• Macbook pro (Blu-Ray) (price) (HDMI Port) (re-design) (macbook3D)

Well I have used a Mac for 3 years and I loved it and now i'm using theMacBook white 2009
I made 3 people swich to Mac and they eather loved it but there is something
I have to tell you........
1-we all know that windows people saying that the Mac Is so so so pricy and for me Idont like the prices and ithink there Is many of people said that to you (APPLE) so Idont know about It and I dont think that I will change the prices
2-MacBook Pro in my option Its the best Mac (laptop) so far and I wanted to buy the MacBook Pro 2012 and I think that you should put a
Blu-Ray Ilike the Blu-Ray so much so iwanted to have it on my Mac I dont know about the blu-ray but it will really support your
Mac NoteBooks
3-and for the HDMI Port (There is Apple tv you will say you dont need HDMI ports There is Apple tv) but there is alot of people that dont have that mony to buy the Apple tv I know Its for (99.99) but for some people thats pricy they wanna HDMI Cable So its much cheeper then the Apple tv
Ilike the that wire for the HDMI but still wanna HDMI Port there is (70%) of people who want HDMI on Their Mac's
4-Re-Design I love the Macbook Pro Design but still some thing missing there is some people dont like the Aluminum But lets face it (Girls) so they go for
theMacBook White So i perfer that It should Be in a Black Aluminum it would be better in my option Because There is like (85%) of people who likes black
5-3D every Mac has his own feature's like Macbook pro (Preformance) Macbook Air (Good looking) and for the Macbook White.......nothing i dont think thats APPLE so you have deleted the Macbook White So i ahve a better idea for the Macbook White it will be Macbook 3D its like everybody likes 3D
Because its 3D GEN so there will be (Preformance) (Good looking) and (3D) and that will be a big move it will be good
My name is (M-J-D) and thank you
i hope somebody from APPLE is reading this
THANK YOU <3

You can convert the Displayport to HDMI very easily with this adapter.

I would not want 3-D to be the default option. For one thing depth perception when there is no actual depth makes little sense. I can just see a kid trying to open a file cabinet on screen only to break the LCD because they reached the LCD. Think how you design it so there is no risk of damaging equipment. And remember all ideas you give Apple are their's to keep. If you have an original idea, consider patenting it yourself once you make a working model of how it is done.

• Startup macbook pro: Blue mac logo and spinning wheel followed by grey screen

Hi all,
I was using my macbook pro from 2012 with OS X Lion installed when I got a frozen screen with blue lines.
I held down the power button to restart the computer and when rebooting, the first thing I noticed was that at the startup, the Apple logo and the spinning wheel were kind of blue, a very light blue, just like the rest of the screen.
The wheel would spin for a while and then the screen would turn off for less than a second and come back completely grey. Once I got the grey screen, the computer would get stuck there and not do anything else.
I've already tried resetting the SMC, resetting the NVRAM and a safe boot won't work, I get the same grey screen when trying the safe mode.
On top of that, the recovery mode is also not working. Even if I hold "option" and select recovery HD, I still get the same grey screen.
Can anybody please help?

That's what I thought.
You have the problem as discussed in this -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0 - thread. It's quite common on 2011 15" and 17" machines. Basically, you have a faulty soldering of the GPU onto the logic board and the bonding is actually coming apart. If you take the time to read just a few of the posts in the thread, you'll see that many have experienced graphics glitches at first and then finally the computer will not even boot. I had this happen myself.
If you're still under AppleCare, Apple will replace the logic board free. If not, they will want you to pay for a new logic board. Unfortunately these 'new' logic boards don't fix the problem as some users have had logic boards replaced 3-4 times before, finally, being offered a replacement.
The best way to 'fix' the problem, at present, is to have the GPU reballed onto the logic board. It costs less than a logic board is a genuine 'fix'.
Read some of the posts in the thread - ask any questions you may have there. I'm almost certain that this is the same problem.
Good luck,
Clinton

Hi i have the same problem, the local apple support in singapore is very unhelpful ... i cant solve the problem
i did clean reformat (full re partition) ... it works on start up ... but after 1 reboot ... it will hang at blue screen forever with the blue cycling from darker to brighter ... the apple rep say it my 3rd party HDD ... but the hardware internal self check is passed ...

• How do I set up magic mouse to my macbook pro, blue tooth will not recognize?

I am having trouble setting up my new magic mouse, bluetooth does not discover it, what do I do?

are you are using fresh batteries and have you successfully used bluetooth before? Also, did you turn the mouse on? If not, flip the switch on the back of the mouse that is next to the circle.

• Bluetooth from iPhone 3GS to MacBook Pro not working?

I am having (seemingly) bluetooth connection issues with "some" devices to my MacBook Pro. I note:
* Mouse pairs fine
* iPhone 3GS does not remain connected (focus of this forum question)
Error - after pairing my iPhone 3GS to my MBP I get an error:
The Bluetooth Network is Unavailable
There was an error connecting your device. Make sure the device is turned on and in range.
Notes:
* MacBook Pro details:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
System Version: Mac OS X 10.7.3 (11D50b)
Background: Ultimately interested in teethering my iPhone 3G data connection to my MacBook Pro, but for the moment the bluetooth connection won't even remain in place.

nothing in these articles helped unfortunately - some more clarification:
tethering via USB from iPhone 3G to MacBook Pro => WORKS
tethering via Bluetooth => does NOT work, with bluetooth connectioning not staying up
During pairing process:
devices "see each other"
pairing appears to work, then you see that the connection drops out directly afterwards (almost immediately)
on iPhone message = "Connection Unsuccessful - XXX's MacBook Pro is not supported"
on MacBook - it's just the connection in Bluetooth options shows up as not connected
in /var/log/system I see some bluetooth related lines:
Apr 18 19:33:14 Gregs-MacBook-Pro bnepd[18950]: [IOBluetoothDevice instantiateChannel] BluetoothHCIAuthenticationRequested failed (0x0006), so retry
Apr 18 19:33:14 Gregs-MacBook-Pro sandboxd[18966] ([18950]): bnepd(18950) deny mach-lookup com.apple.blued

Apr 18 19:33:53 Gregs-MacBook-Pro blued[22]: Removing Bluetooth configured device: 00-26-08-23-23-9d
Any other ideas? Is it a physical problem with my MBP? but then again my bluetooth mouse stays connected ok. And in terms of the iPhone well it tethers fine to the iPad via bluetooth....

• Can't get iCloud mail on my MacBook Pro. I used to, but not now.

I have been traveling, and using all sorts of servers to get my mail through the mail program on my MacBook Pro (Blue stamp icon). But now I am home, and the problem that started while over the road is continuing.
Under iCloud, the mail icon is checked. Under accounts, the only place blank is the IMAP Path Prefix. Port is 143, and SSL is checked. Authentication is Apple Token. Checked are also "include when automatically checking for new messages" and "compact mailboxes automatically"
Any help to get my mail up and running again?
Thanks in advance.

You're going to have to give us more info than "I can't get net flix to work."
What have you done to try to get it to work?
Have you installed Silverlight?
Have you activated you Mac with NetFlix?
How are you accessing NetFlix? (Browser, Boxee....)
Exactly what is happening?

• MacBook Pro 15 inch 2011- Blue tint in Windows 7 using Bootcamp 4.0

I have recently installed Windows 7 using Bootcamp on my Macbook pro 15 inch 2011. The display under Mac OSX is accurate with vibrant colors using the default Color LCD profile. In WIndows 7, everything is tinted blue and all colors are dimished because of this. I have tried importing my Color LCD icc profile from Mac OSX Lion and this has helped to some degree. This alleviates the blue tint but gives Windows a warmer, browner tint. Unfortunately this makes the display too dim and crushes the blacks. Additionally, some games revert to the default windows calibration with the blue tint. Games look bad either way as the Color LCD profile in Windows makes the game too dark and the default calibration makes everything blue. Has anyone been able to correct this in Bootcamp? Thanks

msconfig / chkdsk / Windows 7 DVD system repair or rollback restore point
Ccleaner 3.09 - remove temp files and caches / also run Registry section
Start: Run %TEMP% (select all) and remove all the contents in there
Heat, fans, poor Apple drivers, I would not blame ATI but I would upgrade/install those.
And yes BC 4.0 probably was not tested fully.

• MacBook Pro starts off in blue washed out tint then goes to grey screen

So I took out the stock HDD and replace it with a SSD and the laptop with working better then ever. Then later on at night I used the thunderbolt plug to connect it to a TV. After about 5 min the computer froze so I restarted it. But now when it reboots the screen has a blue washed out look. It won't open into OS X, instead the apple logo comes then the screen turns into a solid grey. It recognizes the SSD when I hold option but won't open it up. So I put the HDD back in and it does the same thing.
My MacBook Pro is an early 2011 15 inch with anti glare display
I'm pretty sure it was running on Mountain Lion because I didn't get a chance to upgrade to Mavericks yet.
The SSD is a 960 Crucial SSD.
I am past warranty with Apple Care so is there anything I can do to fix this?
