MacBook Pro bootcamp windows cant see FAT partition

I have 4 partitions on my SSD
- 1) MAC OS
- 2) SHARED ETC (MAC OS EXT)
- 3) SHARED WORK (FAT)
- 4) NTFS BOOTCAMP
I created two additional partitions (ETC, WORK) after I setup windows via bootcamp, also after I've done that I did a workaround to fix MBR because I wasn't able to boot Windows natively.
But for some reason when I am booting windows it is does not see ETC and WORK partitions! It should be able to see at least WORK(FAT) partition?
How do I fix that?
I want to be able to access WORK(FAT) partition from Windows and ETC(MAC OS EXT) partition as well, if it is possible

Mid 2014 15" Retina Macbook Pro Bootcamp Windows 8.1

Okay, so this is part question and part rant.
The question part: Has anyone successfully installed windows 8.1 in bootcamp on a mid2014 Macbook pro?
The rant part:
This new macbook is awesome. Everything is great. Except that apple needs to get their $h1t together on this bootcamp crap. I am an engineer. It is a sad world that we live in, and there is little I can do to change it, but as of right now, Microshaft owns the corporate world. Software for engineering is developed for winblows. Hopefully that will someday change, but for now I have to put up with it.
I purchased this brand new macbook with the understanding that I would have to install winblows on it, and with the understanding that I would spend about half of my time there. This is not choice, it is necessity. When I purchased this computer I did so because I was reassured that windows would run well in a dual boot.
5 hours of my time has been wasted trying to make that a reality. Currently, I am sitting here watching my mac reinstall Mavericks after being forced to wipe the entire drive due to incompatibility bullpoop.
So far I have tried:
Letting bootcamp do it's thing. This resulted in a near perfect installation, followed by a notification that the boot configuration could not be updated. great.
booting again and trying to format the partition with winblows. Winblows cannot install because of the GPT setup.
delete partition leaving blank space, boot in efi, and then allow windows to make the partition. This resulted in windows making 2 partitions (so far so good) and getting all the way to the end before letting me know that I am right back to trial 1 and it cannot update the boot configuration.
So I go into mac to delete these two partitions. The main one deletes, and the little one wont.
So i go into recovery. Still cannot delete partition.
I was forced to TOTALLY wipe the drive, and I am not sitting here looking at a screen telling me that in 4 hours the mac will have downloaded and installed Mavericks, and I will hopefully be back where I started a day ago. This is ridiculous.
So far I STILL do not have windows, and I am not really any closer. This is total and complete bologna, and I am about ready to return the macbook, and but a piece of $h1t winblows machine simply because it will ACTUALLY do what I HAVE to do. It would suck, because I prefer the Macbook, but if it flat out won't do what I need it to AND apple won't put enough effort into their compatibility software, I am going to be forced to make a compromise.
I send this faithfully from my Late 2008 13" Macbook running the new OS that I am not allowed to mention in this post without my post getting autodeleted.... Don't get me started on that... What is happening to apple? I want to love you guys, really I do!
Somebody help me please... If not with the computer, at least send me a cocktail.
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), Bootcamp

This is probably late but I just finished installing Win 8.1 on my new Mid 2014 15" MBP. It still has a few quirks but it works. I just purchased my MBP and it is configured with 16Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 2.5Ghz CPU and the NVidia Graphic Controller. I am running the latest version of Yosemite. Here is how I was able to make it work:
1) I purchased an OEM Version of Windows 8.1 64bit Professional from Newegg.com. I needed an ISO in order to use bootcamp. For this I used my dedicated windows 7 machine and installed burnaware_free. This ripped an ISO from the Windows DVD. Some websites will say you can use the Microsoft Windows 7 USB Download tool. This tool will NOT work with an OEM DVD of Windows 8.1. I tried it 3 times and all times it barfed and told me the tool could not be used on my version of windows.
2) I used a 16gb Flash drive and plugged it into my MBP and started the bootcamp utility. (I used a 16Gb drive as I did read on a few web sites that stated you needed a Flash drive this big. I'm not sure why as it does not fill it but perhaps with a 8Gb drive there is some temp files created that cause a problem) When it gives me options I let it download the bootcamp drivers and when asked, I pointed it to my Win8.1 ISO that I created earlier. (A side note, you MUST let the Apple bootcamp utility create the bootable USB drive. Foolish me used a standard windows utility to create a bootable Win8.1 drive. Went all the way through the download tools, repartition, etc. The MBP reboots and then pukes telling me the USB I inserted is not a bootable drive. It will boot on a windows box but not on the MBP. I have no idea why but I know this to be the case.)
3) Windows should boot on the apple created USB flash drive. It will walk you through the install. The first thing you need to do is format the partition that the apple bootcamp utility created. You will most likely be given 4 partitions to choose from. Pick the partition that matches in size the one you created on the OSX side and select to format that partition. Once formatted you can hit next and go forward.
4) Just a note.... if your eyes are as old/bad as mine, when Win 8.1 is installing it is not smart enough to know to scale objects and so displays everything in the native retina resolution. I literally needed a magnifying glass to check the serial number I typed in to be sure it was correct.
5) Let the install do it's thing and finish. When it completes and reboots, it will default to boot into windows. This is probably not bad, as if you are like me there is then a whole host of things to install and multiple reboots are required. Before I did a bunch of installs however, I wanted to test to make sure I could go back and fourth between the two OS's. Here is where things get interesting. On my install, once bootcamp was complete and windows 8.1 was installed, booting my MBP no longer gives the gray screen on boot. The screen is now black. At first this had me fooled into thinking something was wrong. When it reboots and you just see the very faint change in the black screen you need to hit the alt/opt button. Better yet, just have it shutdown and then hit the on button and hold the alt button next. You will now be given two drives to boot from, the OSX side and the Windows side. The recovery disk is no longer present.
6) I picked the OSX side and booted into Yosemite. Everything on the Yosemite side is mostly right. OSX sees the bootcamp drive. I use the Paragon utilities that allow me to R/W NTFS from OSX and R/W HFS from Windows. On the OSX side I can R/W the Bootcamp drive without an issue. It is curious, however, that if I go to the system configuration and select Startup Disk, my windows drive is not visible. I don't know the reason but it does not give me an option.
7) I reboot the MBP again and this time I go into windows. On the Windows side Win 8.1, for some reason, is not seeing the OSX drive. I can to into System Management tools and the partition is clearly there but at the desktop level there is no HFS drive. For what I do this is not a huge deal but it is curious as with my old MBP, Win7 and Mavericks everything was visible on both sides. If I go to the BootCamp Utilities and select Startup Drive, the utility on the windows side DOES see the OSX partition and gives me the choice to make OSX the default boot OS if I want or I can select Windows too.
So far everything works, sans the inability to see my OSX drives on the Windows side. I've not used Windows 8.1 yet and so now I'm quickly discovering what all of the fuss is about. I don't want to turn this into a Win8.1 rant but holy crap..... what did Redmond do? Anyway, I found enough copious threads on the web to get 8.1 almost looking like 7 so I'm happy. This was a major PITA however.
PS - One last note. All of this came about because my poor mid 2011 17" MBP finally started suffering the graphic adapter fail that so many have been seeing. Really torxs my chain as I really loved this trusty laptop. Sans the graphic card issue I should have been able to run it another 5 years at least but turned itself into an unreliable time bomb that I just can't trust. Its a real shame but it is what it is. The new 15" MBP are very nice, very fast and very well built but I miss my 17" screen for certain.
I hope this helps someone so they don't have to go through the pain I did.

Macbook Pro, BootCamp, Windows XP and Creative Suite 2, Oh my!

Okay so here goes. I might get a 15", 1 GB mem, 120 GB HD MacBook Pro. On it I will most probably install Windows XP and CS 2. Is this a good idea or should I give up hope now? Will I be able to install any other progams including the above mentioned ones? Also, how exactly does bootcamp work, it shuts down the Mac OS and starts up Windows? So will it go snail speed? Thanks in advance.

If you are intending to use Windows I would suggest upgrading the hard drive to 160GB. That will then allow you to have a 40GB Windows partition while leaving you with 120GB for your Mac OS X partition.
As for RAM, I think you should look at having a 2GB minimum. Adobe CS2 coupled with Rosetta are quite the memory pigs so you'll get far better performance with an upgrade here as well.
Boot Camp allows you to run either Windows or Mac OS X at a restart. It's really simple and runs Windows extremely quickly.

MacBook pro bootcamp, windows 7 32 or 64bit

Hi all.
Iv been doing sum searching but just can't seem to find a definitive answer.
I have a mid 2010 13" MacBook pro with 4gb of ram. I am running the most upto date version of lion and want to run bootcamp with windows. I believe that I can only run windows 7 with lion.
I have been looking at windows 7 options and not sure weather I can run the 64 bit version with out any problems or if I have to stick with the 32bit.
Any help will be greatly received.
PS. On a different subject to save starting another thread. If I restore from time machine will it restore all my photo albums in iPhoto.

Macbook Pro Bootcamp Windows 7 cannot use audio

Hi Guys:
I have a Mac OSX 10.6.3 laptop withbootcamp assisted Windows 7 installed on it. Under Mac OSX, when I attempt to use the microphoe feature, the screen freezes a little bit but works.
Under Windows 7, the audio locks up the entire browser session and audio is lost on the entire system until the browser session is terminated via task manager.
Has anyone come across this issue and do they have a fix for it?

I deleted windows after i realised i wasnt enjoying using it at all and wasted my hard drive. I now decided that i want another OSX on there instead yet i have only allowed myself 10 gb on the partition. I have ben thru some programms but am struggling on making this partition bigger.
I only want it at 20gb but cant seem to make the partition bigger, only smaller or split it into further partition.
Is there a way to do this, i have all installation discs from original OSX so think this could help.
Any help please would be fantastic.

Hi, dragging the partition will only make smaller, not larger. In disk utility you can only split or make smaller the partitions. Yes i booted from installation disks also but still no help.
And Brody, I am willing to erase the disc completely, infact jus started doing a backup in order to do so but that failed also. And the information you gave on partition a hard drive, Although very simple and i already know how to do this, but it wont let me make the partition bigger, and i dont want to make a new partition, just enlarge the one i already have, which i dont see possible from disk utility.
Getting really frustrated now, even backing up is saying no to me. **** external being a douche.
I dont mind erasing the hard drive but surely this must be doable without deleting the secondary partition back t a single volume, and re partitioning into 2 volumes again.

You'll need to erase the drive by booting up holding command-option-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
Use Disk Utility to erase the disk and then Internet Recovery. That will take a while.

Keyboard hangs on MacBook Pro with Windows 7

I have a 2008 MacBook Pro and Windows 7 RC installed with Boot Camp drivers.
More and more, the keyboard hangs. Sometimes it does not register a keystroke (for about 1 second), and shortly thereafter it hangs on 1 keystroke (pressing a random key once results in about 30 of that characters on screen).
I know Windows 7 is still not officialy released, but I do hope this gets fixed in the near future. I have had many Windows 7 installs, including previous versions. They all had the same issue.
The problem seems to be the Keyboard manager. Windows 7 also reported that this service was using more than usual resources, causing it to be bad for battery life.

Same problem here. I already installed Windows 7 and then Windows XP to see if this was a Win7 issue but on both OS the issue is occurring.
Delay with the Keyboard when press a key. Sometimes it writes 30 or more of the same character.
I can't do the double fingers/right click most of the times since the drives seems to hang and multitouch trackpad stops to recognize the two fingers right click. It eventually come back working OK from time to time and then stops working again.
Bootcamp 3.0 did not resolve the issue for me under Win XP and Win 7

This is purely a Windows issue, follow the Windows instructions for detecting and pairing USB devices. It doesn't matter what it is running on, it's still Windows.

It all depends on what your useage of Windows will be, for playing games install it in BootCamp, for word processing, spreadsheets, email. browsing etc a virtual Machne will be fine.

You showed a kernel panic file from OS X, apprantly Log Me In is installed into OS X or running when you log in.
You should be using the developers installer/unistaller to remove Log Me In from OS X.
Somehow it's in OS X, I don't know, but it's there and you need to remove it. I'm not dealing with Windows, just OS X.
Talk to Log Me In people and find out what is installed where so you can do a manual deletion out of OS X.
If that doesn't work, you have to reboot holding the Shift key down manually search for any Log Me In or Himachi files on your computer, in your System/Library/Extensions folder too, use the free Easy Find.

Any computer is compatible as long as it can read and write Office files. But for perfect (or at least near perfect) compatibility, you would want to purchase Office 2011 for Mac.
How can I transport from Windows to Mac?
You can't directly transport any installation of Windows. All PC's come with a machine specific version of Windows intended for that PC. They don't have all of the hardware drivers the retail disks cover.
If you want Windows on your Mac, you would first purchase a full version copy (NOT an upgrade disk) of Windows 7 or 8. Those are the only supported versions on newer Macs. You install it through the supplied Boot Camp utility that comes with the Mac to create a new partition for Windows, and then install the retail copy of Windows you purchased.
The reason only these versions of Windows are supported is the same basic reason as a machine specific version of Windows for a PC. Apple only includes the necessary Mac hardware drivers for Win 7 or 8 on new Macs.
Once Windows is installed, you could then install the version of Office for Windows you already own. The nuisance of a Boot Camp partition is that you have to physically boot to either Windows or OS X, so you can only use the apps of the OS you're in at the time. To use both at once, you'd have to use virtual machine software (Parallels, VMware, VirtualBox) and then install Windows within that. Then you'd be able to run Windows inside of OS X and have access to both at the same time.

Why slow wireless download Macbook Pro Bootcamp Xp Leopard

Problem: wireless download speed is much slower running windows Xp on a macbook pro (bootcamp) than when running OS X. Example OS X = 1,164 KB/sec download, 496 upload vs Xp = 265 KB/sec download, 940 KB/sec upload.
I have a Macbook Pro Duo Core running OS X 10.5 with the newest Boot camp drivers for windows installed. Test was done using Speakeasy speed test, Safari/Explorer 7.
funny how only the download speed is slow under Xp, not the upload speed.

Here's a solution that worked for me, my chipset is a Broadcom 802.11n (4328). It's a 24" iMac (Pre Alu).
Hopefully it helps others. Broadcom have updated WHQL drivers (picked mine up from here, they have Vista versions on there too) and it was just a case of installing those and changing 2 settings.
Changing IBSS mode to 802.11a/b/g/n Auto:

Macbook Pro running Windows with Boot Camp, wanting to use iMac as second monitor.

I am using a Macbook Pro that is running Windows with Boot Camp. I want to connect it to my iMac so that I can use the iMac as a second monitor.
If it is not possible, I also have a TV that I could use using an HDMI, however when I tried this my Macbook Pro running Windows 8.1 did not detect it in the Display Settings.
What are my options? I just want to use my iMac or TV as a second monitor!!
