Macbook pro burning out chargers

i've now burnt out my third charger. it gets super hot while charging and then dies. nothing is still under waranty. don't want to have to keep on buying them and literally burn right through them.

Then you have a problem with your system or you are buying aftermarket chargers that aren't as good as a real apple charger.
If you bought real apple chargers from a apple store then the system has a problem. The cost of fixing that problem, probably a logic board change, would be much more then the cost of the chargers you are buying.

  • How fast do "old" MacBook Pros go out of stock?

How fast do MacBooks and MacBook Pros go out of stock in stores after the latest update announcements each year?
If the rumors that Apple will discontinue installing internal optical drives in their MacBook Pros, then I would want to buy the "older" model before it goes out of stock because I use the opticle drives A LOT for burning and reading physical media, and also like to have hard copy backups of expensive software so that it won't disppear like it would if the hard drive on a backup disk failed.
I think it would be unlikely they would completly discontinue including optical drives, but very plausible that they could discontinue including them in the 13-inch models of the MacBook Pro to save battery life. However, I don't want to have to pay an extra $500-$700 just to get the 15-inch model either.

Always buy the latest model when upgrading. Just get an external DVD drive.

  • Does anyone know when the new macbook pro comes out ?

im wondering if there will be a new macbook pro version sometimes this year  or when was the last uptade or the last macbook pro came out.. thanx

If I'm not mistaken, retail versions of Windows 7 come with both the 64 bit and 32 bit DVDs in the package (it doesn't make sense for them to market two separate packaged versions).  If you purchased it online via the Microsoft Store for download, they allow you to go back and download either version as well.  Provided you have a legit version of Windows 7, you should have access to either version.
Either version should work fine on a current Macbook Pro.

  • The audio on my macbook pro cuts out after a few minutes.

The audio on my macbook pro cuts out after a few minutes. It sounds like all the low end is removed. I still hear audio but it is MUCH lower and sounds filtered. I can barely hear it maxed out. Nothing attached (no external drives, no speakers, etc) and it's only a few days old.

Apple store pronto.  If need be (if less than 14 days from purchase) exchange for a new one!
    Ciao.

I will be out of town for two months, will my MacBook Pro drain out by then?
If yes what precautions should I take??

    mmnoble88,
I mean that it should not be charged higher than 50% prior to a period of not being used. If its battery is higher than 50% just before you head out of town, you should let it discharge until it’s at 50% or less.

  • Does a macbook pro work out of the united states?

i will like to know if a macbook pro work out of the united states because i would want to buy one and use it out of the united states

It will work anywhere, and the warranty is valid world wide. You will probably need to buy some sort of power plug adapter for the USA two-pronged power plug into whatever country socket you intend visiting.

  • My MACBOOK Pro turned out to be Snow Leopard, and later upgraded to LION. And update the EFI, I would like to replace the Snow Leopard, EFI can not boot, how do? How to use the Snow Leopard install disk to reduce EFI?

My MACBOOK Pro turned out to be Snow Leopard, and later upgraded toLION. And update the EFI, I would like to replace the Snow Leopard, EFIcan not boot, how do? How to use the Snow Leopard install disk to reduce EFI?

Do you mean some of your software does not work in Lion? Do you want to return to using Snow Leopard? If so, then do this:
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • Help! My macbook pro fell out of my bag on to asphalt!!

My macbook pro fell out of my bag on to asphalt and kinda pushed in the rubber feet, top left , near the power port. It was in a foam kind of case which protected it somewhat. except for the top left corner, which has a hole in it. That hole scared me cause apparently the fall was hard enough to slice the material. MBP seems to be working fine though it is wobbly now cause of the pushed in feet. I worry though, if there are internal problems. Could pushed in feet affect the inside. also, if i bring it in to an apple store for them to check, will they void my warranty? My MBP is less than a months old!

Anything is possible after such an event, but the damage may not be something a tech can see.  Your machine could, unfortunately, stop working at any point, requiring costly repairs to get it working again.  Or it could keep working in this condition for years.  There's no real way to know.  Just keep using it, make sure to maintain a very good set of frequently-updated backups, and don't worry about it until you have to.

  • MacBook Pro logs out before Time Capsule has finished backing up

I can't seem to get the initial back-up done, my MacBook Pro logs out before Time Capsule has a chance to finish backing up, approximately 95GB to complete and it only gets to 12 or 15GB. Any ideas?

You should try taking the battery out and putting it back in, but then if that doesn't work, you should take it into your Apple Retail Store and have a genius at the Genius Bar take a look. That seems like a hardware problem to me.

  • My macbook pro burned me

I was burned by my Macbook Pro 13.3"! I have had a few surgeries on my abdomen from cancer when I was younger and was left with a large scar from my ribs to my pelvis. I have very little feeling in that area as a result. The other day, I noticed a large blister right where the laptop exhaust comes out! Probably the size of a nickel!
Is this really supposed to get that hot? I often rest it there when I'm in bed and it is just Castleville on Facebook that it seems to get that hot. I think this is a design problem that makes it so difficult to efficiently cool the processor. Please advise. I should not get burned by my laptop!

Just signed in to tell you that my MacBook Pro Retina just burned me as well..
Was sitting in the restroom today, and seen a big blister above my knee (about 6 inches above, on my inner thigh). The blister is about 1/2 inch wide, and about 1/4 inch high.. No clue if it'll get any bigger, and i was going through everything in my head trying to figure out how this could have happened.. Then i realized, that i was playing a computer game in my boxers and the exhaust from the laptop was blowing on or around that same spot... Never thought it got hot enough to cause a damned blister, but it did.... Pretty scary if you think about it.. especially if you have young kids using them..
I guess "Laptop" doesn't mean put this on your lap anymore... i see most of the suggestions are to use it on a table/computer desk...(why not just use a more powerful desktop then), or to use a laptop cooling pad... (lol u kidding?, part of the draw for the macbook retina is that it's thin & light, sure isn't gonna be thin and light with some damned fan monstrosity attached to the bottom of it.)

  • Macbook Pro burns DVD+R DL - but isn't supposed to be able to?

Not your typical post - I've actually had something WORK, but now am wondering why...
Started a burn job to a dual-layer DVD+R disc, and while waiting on it, it occurred to me that maybe my Macbook Pro doesn't support +R. So I looked at system profiler, and +R does in fact NOT show up as a burn capability.
Is there a chance I'm causing damage to the drive, trying to do this? I would think that if it was incompatible, Toast would have spit it back out.
(BTW, I have yet to see any DL DVD-R disks for sale from the usual retail suspects; does such a thing exist, or are DLs strictly a +R thing?)

Your MBP should be able to burn CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, and DVD+R DL. Go to the /Applications/Utilities folder and run System Profiler.app. Click on "Disc Burning" in the list, and you should get information about the capabilities of your writer.
You're not causing any damage to the drive.
There are DVD-R DL disks out there, however, it doesn't appear to be a very popular format. In my experience, the DVD-R DL format (writing not supported on the Mac) is so-so reliable on computer, but far less reliable in set-top DVD players.
One thing that get me, though, is that iDVD appears to not be able to burn DL disks. That's a serious shortcoming.
