Macbook pro camera and bluetooth not available

My 2010 macbook pro's camera and bluetooth has stopped working. Both worked fine before and nothing seems to fix the issue. Ive tried holding the power button, resetting pram and smc, and deleting bluetooth file. Everything that Ive read online has not worked. I scheduled an appointment with apple but the drive is far. Any other suggestions?

I noticed that my bluetooth is not available.
Did you check its settings?  System Preferences/Bluetooth
I have tried to do a SMC reset, but to no avail.
Try zapping your pram - Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Try the suggestions mentioned in EZJim's Website.

Read the suggestions mentioned in the my isight camera is not working-not recognized with photo booth or ichat thread.
Another suggestion - 1. Click on Macintosh HD on the top right of your desktop (or whatever else you’ve called your Harddrive)
2. Click through System > Library > LaunchDaemons
3. Now look for the file com.apple.cmio.VDCAssistant.plist  - and send it to trash.  http://www.appleware.co.uk/2008/12/03/isight-camera-fix.html
If you are still under warranty or have Apple Care, call them and get a case number.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.  You may have a hardware problem if none of the above suggestions resolves your issue.

i got a macbook pro 2008 and can not back up using time machine. it eject my external hard drive everytime. does anybody has a fix???

Does your external hard drive have it's own power supply?  It should.
Is your external hard drive formatted with the NTFS file system?  It won't work.
It needs to be formatted either with Mac OS Extended or FAT32.
(There are drivers available to add NTFS support to OS X but their quality is unknown, especially the "free" ones.)

  • Macbook Pro Keyboard and Trackpad Not Working

few days ago, my Macbook Pro keyboard and trackpad started to act very oddly.
Basically, the keyboard doesn't work at all. I press down the keys, and all I get is that error message sound. The volume and display brightness keys seem to work, but almost all of the others just won't type anything. it-s like any key command or alt would stay pressed so when i click any key its trying to perform other function instead of just typing the letter. that-s probably the reason why the trackpad is also being very odd. When I first turn on the laptop, it seems to work as normal. I can click on an application, and it opens. But about one minute after the laptop first starts, it's like anywhere I click on the trackpad is a right-click. To open an application, I click like I normally would but instead of opening, a menu pops up as if I right-clicked. This happens in Finder and everywhere else that I've tested (for instance, I can't drag any Finder windows to different positions on the screen, because it acts as if I right-clicked instead of left-clicked), no matter whether I tap or click the trackpad.
I have reset my permissions, but that didn't fix anything. I verified the hard drive and it said there were no problems. A big issue is that I can't do anything that requires me to type in my password, since I can't type anything. I tried to reset the PRAM, but I don't think that it even registered me pressing the Command-Option-P-R keys when I booted up, so i just removed the battery for a while, i am not sure that did anything at all.
i tried to reinstall the os, i had mavericks and i installed a fresh mountain lion but the problem persists. i recently installed virtualbox and the keyboard seems to work right as long as i do not press any of the following keys command, alt, shift, etc.. if i press any of them same thing happens. i found that if i connect a usb keyboard everything works, but when i use the inbuilt keyboard the problem is back and a i have to connect disconnect the usb keyboard to be able to type or use the trackpad normally.
    any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • 10.5.8 MacBook Pro: Keyboard and Trackpad Not Working

I have an older MacBook Pro (all metal, non-chiclet keyboard) and the trackpad and keyboard have recently become unresponsive. The power buttons work fine and when I plug in a mouse and keyboard via USB, I am able to use the computer-but that limits my mobile usage. Is there a driver update/download that I can get to fix this? Side note: I no longer have the old OS X disc that came with the computer. Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi s,
In some cases, the battery can interfere with a cable between it and the inside of the MBP, causing keyboard and/or trackpad issues. Shut down the MBP, disconnect the power adapter, remove the battery, take a piece of something semi-soft (like a paper napkin folded over a couple times), place it over the cable you see in the battery compartment, and tape it down. Replace the battery and see how things go. If this works, you'll eventually want to replace the keyboard/trackpad cable (about $25 if you can do the work yourself). Note that if you go to a repairshop, they usually want to replace the entire top case assembly, which is much more costly.
If the issue persists, shut down, disconnect the power adapter, remove the battery, connect the power adapter, boot the MBP and see if the issue persists without the battery in place (but remember to save a lot, because if the power adapter gets pulled out the MBP will immediately shut down and any unsaved work will be lost).
Also look at the battery to see if it has any signs of deformity/bulging, in which case do not use it again (it may be pushing on the keyboard/trackpad cable and causing the issue); it must be replaced.

  • Macbook Pro Keyboard and trackpad not working - SOLUTION!

Recently my Macbook Pro of 3 years suddenly stopped working -- or at least the keyboard and track pad did. I plugged in an external USB mouse and and keyboard and was able to use it but it was of course cumbersome. Thinking it was a software issue like the one that used to happen to my old G4 desktop I reinstalled the OS but this did nothing but cause a lot of extra work. After doing a lot of hours of research I finally began reading that people were finding a solution by replacing their "topcase" (the topcase includes the keyboard and trackpad). This is a $300 fix and not knowing if it would even work I didn't want to try it and be wrong!
To make a short story longer I found a website (which I have no affiliation with) called www.powerbookmedic.com who sold the cable only so you could do your own fix for about $35. They provide basic video but not an exact step by step to replace the actual cable -- just how to get to it.
I will warn you that the components are tiny and I recommend buying the Mac tool kit and pry tool to help you through it. Even so I broke a small component but luckily it still works. In the end I now have a working Macbook Pro and some extra tools for the next time. I stripped a screw so had to spend another $15 and buying anti-static tape, although not necessary might be a good idea. Total cost to me was about $60 with tools and everything.
It is not very hard to do the replacement but it is tricky because the components are so fragile and I did not have a video to properly describe how to open up connectors -- hence why I broke one. But if you are patient, savy and need to save a few bucks it can be done.
PS- I have rebuilt desktop Mac's before but this was the first time I ever opened up a laptop. I used the video's provided at http://www.powerbookmedic.com/ as much as allowed.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook Pro died and will not turn on any longer

I am hoping someone can give me some insight into what has happened with my Macbook.
I have a 2008 17" Macbook Pro A1261. The other day I was working on battery life and noticed it was about to drain, so I plugged in my adapter. The adapter was not lighting up and I assumed that it had just stopped working. My Macbook is completely dead at this point. I bought another adapter (the newer L shaped ones) and when I plug it in the light comes on green but does not change colour to amber. When I try to power my mac on it does not come on with the battery in or removed.
I have tried an SMC reset, holding shift, etc. and nothing has worked thus far. My issue is that how can my macbook all of a sudden just "die" when it was working PERFECTLY fine before the battery drained? I assumed buying another adapter would fix the issue.
Could this simply be because my macbook does not yet have the firmware installed for the new L shaped adapter? If so what steps can I take to install the firmware? I know it is not the magsafe adapter because I have tried two others with no luck.
    Please help!

Hi all, I finally took my macbook into the apple store and met with a genius. I am really not satisfied at all and I will explain why.
My macbook was working fine until the battery died, it was powered on and functioning etc. and it was just my cord that had the issue (until the battery drained completely). I have seen a lot of posts about macbooks just not turning on until the battery that has died is charged and inserted.
The day of the appointment I took another look at my macbook after leaving it idle for a few days. At this point, the battery has actually expanded and broke out of it's original case. This happened while the battery was drained and the macbook was off and unplugged. From what I have read, this happens all the time with these batteries and there was a program put in place to replace them at one point?
When I got to the apple store, I explained my situation (cord did not light/charge macbook, then macbook battery drains and now it will not turn on) and the tech basically told me that it is for sure the top case and the power button just "doesn't work", so I will need to spend $200 to replace the top case and then they "can go from there". He said it is either the top case or the logic board. I asked him why the logic board just mysteriously "broke" when the battery died. He told me that "these things start in one spot and spread like a cold". I am really disappointed in the service I got from them, he literally asked three questions and then said it is the top case and the logic board and that I need to buy both. It didn't give me any more confidence that this guy was 25 years old wearing a fitted hat at work (like a NY hat or something, and I hate to stereotype but he lived up to it unfortunately).
Also, he made it seem like I needed to pay for the top case first before they would spend any time even looking at my macbook to see what is wrong.. is this correct? You need to purchase a part or they won't open your computer?
Disappointment aside, I believe my next step is to obtain a fully charged battery and use that to start my macbook. I will post what happens if I can find a charged battery. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

  • Latest Gen iMac loses gestures, trackpad slow,  and bluetooth not available, anybody else?

Did the upgrade from 10.7.4 to 10.8  and blutooth is "not available".  Yet I can use both bluetooth keyboard and Trackpad... no gestures.  Trackpad not need by OS.

Did you try these steps? They worked for me and a couple other people:
1 - Turn on automatic login: System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General > Click the lock to make changes > If Disable automatic login is checked, uncheck it > Pick your user account and password > Ok.
2 - Shut down your computer.
3 - Turn off your keyboard and mouse: For keyboard and wireless trackpad you hold the power button until the light goes off.
    4 - Start your computer.
5 - Once your desktop has fully loaded turn the keyboard and mouse back on, everything should work.

it would be better to direct that question to Gary Loftis, since my MacBook Pro doesn’t have a Thunderbolt port.

I am trying to access my bluetooth on my macbook pro, but when I click on the bluetooth symbol it has a squiggley line through it and say not available.  How can I fix this?  I already tried resetting the PRAM.  Please help!  Thanks!

  • HT3887 I m not able to found Bluetooth in my Macbook Pro. Error is Bluetooth : Not available.

I am not able to found Bluetooth in my Macbook Pro. Found error is Bluetooth not available. Please inform me.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Somehow, OS X doesn't detect Bluetooth in your computer. First, reset the PRAM and the SMC, and see if you can use Bluetooth then.
If not, hold Command and R keys while your computer is starting to start in OS X Recovery, and reinstall OS X. If, after reinstalling OS X, you can't use Bluetooth, there's a hardware issue with your Mac, so take your Mac to an Apple Store or reseller

my macbook pro running lion will not boot . it stays on the grey page with the cog spinning. I have tried all methods of booting to no avail. I have removed the bottom and taken out the battery and the ram . will this affect my applecare warranty. I had to try myself as I'm overseas for two months and nowhere near any sort of help .

there was a recent software update that seemed to screw HDV up.  Do some searching here over the last month or 2 and you'll find a bunch of posts and some possible solutions.
Worst case scenario, do as Shane suggests.  But might I suggest you take a look at the user tips section of the forum.  there are some great tips on how to prevent these sorts of problems by cloning your startup drive, etc.

  • HT201257 Fan on my MacBook Pro came on and will not turn off, what could be wrong or how do I fix?

The fan on my MacBook Pro came on out of no where and will not turn off. The computer is not heated nor are any applications running in the background. The seems to be going on full blast. Before now it worked fine. Would turn on or off when need. Please advice what could be wrong or if ther is anything I can do to fix or troubleshoot. Computer is not even a year old.

LexSchellings: Now I know why you wished me luck and hoped everything would clear up asap hehe. I've been doing some reading and it is quite possible that my MBP late 2011 is sadly part of the probably million of MBP's out there with logic board issues. I am glad I am under warranty (still have to wait and see what apple techs decide on my comp) and sad that my comp will probably be done with in a few years. Not even 4 as it turns out. I can honestly say my old iBook G4 was amazing gave me 8 great years. Never had an issue with it.
Something funny is that about 10 to 15 mins ago the fan on my comp (the only indicator I got of any issue going on) quite down and the comp was working perfect. It has been running really slow since I noticed the fan being over worked even if nothing is running. Then it started up again and once again quite down, functioned well for like 10 seconds and started being noisy and slow again.
However there is an issue that bugs me, if according to my AHT results it is a faulty logic board how come my comp is still functioning? Of course being slow and noisy. I've read on some sad stories on here
Wish me more luck and send me lots of good vives. Going to need them. Especially if I end up not being able to fix the comp.
Apple is letting me down and to think I just purchased an iPad mini for xmas :/
