MacBook Pro can't find AirPort Express base station

My friend gave me an AirPort Express and I've set it up as a base station before. But the other day it was having problems and I reset it. Since then I have not been able to set up a base station. When I try to set up a new base station through the AirPort Setup Assistant I get the message "The AirPort Setup Assistant was unable to find your base station." I have tried soft resets, hard resets, and even factory resets, but I can't get the base station set up. Any suggestions?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I face a similar problem - the default name of the Airport Express is shown, Internet-Access works, but no way to administrate the Station - it is "not found", although it displays the name of it before. Frustration!

  • MacBook Pro can't find Airport Express

Just unwrapped an Airport Express in order to simply stream music from my MBPro through the AP Express connected to my amp. But the lap-top refuses to find it, what straightforward step am I missing?

Pull down the AirPort menu bar item on your MBPro and look for a network with a name like "Apple Network xxxxxx", where the x's are the last part of the "AirPort ID" of the AirPort Express.  If you see that, select it, then use AirPort Utility to configure the AirPort Express.

  • Can't read airport express base station configuration wirelessly

    The setup:
2TB time capsule that takes the ethernet feed from the cable modem for internet access.
Airport express 802.11g plugged into speakers for Airtunes. No ethernet connection, just a wireless network.
    The problem:
I can only read the airport express base station configuration when the mac is plugged into the time capsule by ethernet cable. This does not happen with the other mac I have on the network. It can connect to both the time capsule and the airport express without any problems. So unless I'm plugged in, iTunes and airtunes doesn't connect to the base station, and neither can Airfoil 3.5 or Airport Utility. Airport Utility does see the airport express. It just doesn't read the configuration wirelessly.
I think this had something to do with elgato eyetv not liking airfoil, but I can't say for sure.
    Any thoughts?

When I switch it on all three lights flash, but then after a while the middle one stays on and nothing happens.
You posted in the AirPort Express area, but it sounds like you have an AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)--correct?
If so, let's start by performing a complete power recycling of your network components to make sure that the BT Voyager router "recognizes" the AEBS.
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    - Power-off the BT Voyager modem, AEBS, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the BT Voyager modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
    - Power-off the BT Voyager modem, AEBS, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the BT Voyager modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.

  • Macbook Pro can't see Airport Express

I have an older Airport Express together with a recent iMac and MBP, both running 10.6.2. The iMac can see the Airport Express, configure it in Airport Utility, and access the internet fine. However, the MBP can't find the Airport Express at all - it doesn't even show up in Airport Utility. I've been beating my head against the wall all night trying to fix this, but no matter what I try, the MBP cannot see the AX. It can see that my network is available, but trying to login to the network results in an immediate connection failure, with a system.log entry of:
*Nov 19 21:51:49 Greywolf Apple80211Agent[461]: Error joining NETWORKNAME: Connection failed (-3930) result unavailable)*
    Any ideas?

Managed to "solve" this on my own. I ended up deleting every airport and network preferences file from the system that I could find, and also trashed all the related keychain entries. Eventually, my MBP noticed the AX sitting two feet away.

  • Can't see airport express base station....help please. Sitting in cupboard.

Ok, so I've moved house and it's all gone a bit wrong....
Usually I connect my iBook G4 to the internet using an airport extreme base station - ethernet cable goes from airport to BT router - BT Voyager 220V ADSL Voice Router.
All was fine until I moved house. Now I can connect to the internet no problem if the ethernet cable goes straight into the laptop - but I just can't see my AEBS. I've tried switching it on and off to no avail, and was even brave and reset the whole thing, but nothing happens. When I scan using airport utility it just doesn't see it.
When I switch it on all three lights flash, but then after a while the middle one stays on and nothing happens.
I did install some BT home hub software at the weekend so I could log into my brother's network - could this be the issue? Although I have used my laptop wirelessly in the internet cafe next door and that was fine. The computer is also picking up other wireless networks, it just can't see mine. Any ideas?
    Thanks, Px

  • Airport utility can not find airport extream base station

I bought apple airport extream base station recently. I download ariport utility ion my iphone. But the airport utility cant find my airport extream base station.

Power up the AirPort Extreme for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the back of the AirPort Extreme for 10 seconds then release
Allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart again
On the iPhone home screen, tap Settings
    Tap WiFi
Look for the listing of Setup A New Base Station
    Tap on AirPort Extreme
The example below shows an AirPort Express. You will see AirPort Extreme
When you tap on AirPort Extreme, that will get the setup wizard running. Follow the prompts.

  • Can the new AirPort Express Base Stations be daisy-chained?

I have to create a wireless network over a considerably large space (an entire museum), and was previously under the impression that I could endlessly extend the signal from my AirPort Extreme using a series of AirPort Expresses.  In fact, the Apple Store Business Team led me to believe this.  I have purchased five Expresses (three of which are the new Base Stations, one is the slightly earlier version (801.11n), and one is older (801.11g).
I am now aware that I cannot simply "extend" the network more than once, and that with older models you had to use WDS to relay the network to remote AirPort Expresses.  But can even this be done with the new base stations?  Airport Utility 6.0 seems to provide much less functionality than the ealier versions.  I still have one macbook with Airport 5.x, thankfully, although it still doesn't make it clear how to change the Express into a WDS relay.
I never would have bought these products if it was clear that you could only really extend the network by 50 feet in any direction.  Hopefully, this isn't the case.
    Thanks,
    -mf

Thanks, Shawn, although I'd looked at that article before and I still have the same questions:
    - It says "WDS is designed for 802.11g, and shouldn’t be used for 802.11n devices. Wi-Fi base stations may include AirPort Extreme (802.11g) and AirPort Express (802.11g)."  Is this truly prohibitive, or just a suggestion?
    - It also includes steps such as "From WDS Mode, select WDS remote."  I see no such options in AirPort Utility 6.0, nor can I find them in version 5.6.  Am I missing something, or do the hardware upgrades (to 'n') mean that Apple software won't support WDS at all anymore?

  • AirPort Express Base Station sticks out too far (Solution)

    Hi all,
I don't know if this comes up very often in this forum but a problem with having the Airport Express Base Station plug directly into the wall is that it sticks out too far, IMO.
I have one hooked up in my bedroom so I can play music over a BOSE Wave Radio. I have two possible power outlets to plug it into. One is next to the bed. There is about 18 inch gap between the bed and the wall. I don't want the device there because I may bump into it while making up the bed. The other place is behind the dresser. However, this spot would make me have to pull out the dresser a little too far from the wall than I would like. Behind the dresser is preferred because it is the closest outlet to the radio.
Solution: I went to a local hardware store and found a six socket mini power strip that plugs directly into the wall. Here in the US, our power outlets have two sockets lined up vertically. This device plugs into both sockets. The top plug has all three prongs. The bottom one only has one ground prong. Each side has three 3-hole sockets. The sockets on one side are upside down.
With this mini power strip, I can plug the Airport Express Base Station into the side of the strip such that the side of the base station is almost against the wall. Now, I can have my dresser very close to the wall. There is a very small gap between the base station and the wall and dresser to allow it to breathe.
I also plan on using more of the these mini power strips behind other pieces of furniture so that the furniture no longer pushes against power cords sticking out of other outlets. The one downside is that this mini power strip won't handle wide transformer based adapters.
I hope this tip helps others.
    Enjoy life!
    Steven

  • Macbook can't find airport express?

just got the airport express today. plugged the ethernet cord from the modem to the airport. plugged it in. on the macbook running leopard, used airport utility and it can't seem to find the airport express? am i doin something wrong?

Did you connect to the new AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) wireless network, through the AirPort menu, before attempting to access it with the AirPort Utility? If yes, and the utility still couldn't find it, I suggest that you (temporarily) connect you computer directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the AX's Ethernet port, and then, try accessing it with the AirPort Utility again.

  • Can I use an Airport Express Base Station to extend non-Apple router range?

We have a Netgear 802.11n router in our house. I just bought a MacBook Pro and now am accessing out wifi from the other end of the house along with my iPod Touch 4g. Both seem to show at best about half strength signal strength. House is small and nearly all devices on same floor.
Can I use the Apple Airport Express Base Station as a bridge to extend our wifi network giving me stronger signal for my Apple devices or will it only work with Apple routers? Netgear and others like Hawking make wifi range extenders and those are still under consideration.

It would be extremely unlikely that an AirPort Express would "extend" the wireless network produced by the Netgear router using wireless only. Apple's "extend" feature appears to be proprietary among Apple "n" routers. As far as we know, it does not work with any other manufacturer's products for the purpose of wireless only extension.
If you are planning to connect the AirPort Express to the Netgear using an ethernet connection, then it could be configured to extend that way.

  • Where can I purchase a replacement CD for the Airport Express Base station A1264?

Where can I purchase a replacement CD for the Airport Express Base station A1264?
I'd like to sell my Airport Base Station, but I believe I need a CD with the software on it for the new owner. Anyone know where I can find one?
    Thanks!
    Meredith

I doubt it is available.. and since a new Mac doesn't even have an optical drive.. there is no need whatsoever today for the cd.. it is all available in the OS or download. In fact the stuff on the cd will now be totally out of date.

Change your router channel.  Sometimes this is all you will have to do.
Power cycling the router.  Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.
    System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network
    Unlock the padlock
    Locations:  Automatic
    Highlight Airport
    Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock.  Highlight Airport.  Network Name-select your name.  Click on the Advanced button.  Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."  Click the OK button and lock the padlock.  Restart your computer.

  • MBP doesn't find my Airport express base station (sometimes)

Just lately my MBP has been intermittently failing to find my Airport express base station, either on startup or after waking up. When this happens my base station doesn't appear in the list of available networks so I can't even connect manually. Sometimes it is solved by turning airport on and off, and after a few times the base station reappears in the list and I can connect manually. Other times it requires a computer restart. Either way it wastes about 5 minutes and is driving me crazy.
All software and firmware is up to date, and all permissions have been checked and repaired. Has anyone else had this problem?
    Tom

Try changing the channel of the base station.

  • Macbook Pro can't find Wifi after closing

I moved house and got a new wifi provider. My Macbook Pro can't find it sometimes after I close my Macbook which forces me to restart for it to join the network automatically. SOMETIMES I get a popup window with networks that it picks up and SOMETIMES my network is listed and I can select that, but not all the time. Why cant my Macbook find my network sometimes? It can find everybody elses except mine!
