MacBook Pro can't see Airport network but three other macs in house can

Very strange. I can connect my three iMacs (G3, G5 PowerPC and G5 Intel) to my Airport Extreme Network, but my MacBook Pro can no longer see the Network, and Airport utility (from MacBook Pro) cannot see the Airport base station (although other macs' Airport Utility can no problem). My MacBook pro can see 4 other networks (my neighbours' networks). Doesn't seem to be a problem with my MacBook Pro airport card as I can connect to the (non-Mac) wireless network at work with no problem. Am really confused (not the first time)!
Installed the latest Airport Extreme firmware last week, which was the start of the problem, as I then lost the ability to connect to my Virgin Media Broadband digital TV box, necessitating Virgin engineer visiting at weekend to connect a cable modem to the cable tv box, to which the Airport Extreme station is now attached. Had problems connecting my MacBook Pro last night, but eventually managed it. All other macs connect seamlessly. Am stumped.

I'm troubleshooting a friend's MacBook (Model ID: MacBook4,1) that is having serious Airport problems. This machine's Airport can't see ANY available networks. Sitting right next to my MacBook (identical model), hers is blind while mine can see several open and locked networks including my own Airport base station. If I choose to "Join Other Network..." and enter the network name and password for my network, her machine almost immediately gives me a "Connection timed out" error. It doesn't matter where her MacBook is, it can't see any networks anywhere.
This is a new problem as her Airport was working fine for the first few months. I've just finished making sure all software updates have been applied so she's now running the latest-greatest, but still no Airport.
This sounds similar to the problems other folks here are describing so I figured I'd add my voice to the chorus. I guess I'll take her machine down to the local Apple store this afternoon and see if they have any ideas. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if her Airport card was fried.

  • Can't see USB disk attached to other mac

I have an Airport Express, on the network is a Mac Mini which has an USB disk attached to it (to the Mac Mini).
However, I can't see the disk from any other mac that uses the Airport (this used to work)
I've looked for "disk sharing" in Preferences and in the Airport Setup Utility, but couldn't find anything.
I've also made the Sharing & Permissions of the USB disk for "Me" and "Everyone" as " Read & Write"
Any idea how I can resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Awfers

Ok, thanks for clarifying. You don't need to change any settings within the AirPort Utility, but let's double-check your Mac Mini's settings to make sure that it is both sharing the disk properly and that it's OS X firewall is not blocking the requests.
For File Sharing: System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing
o Make sure that the folders on your external hard drive, that you want shared, are selected in the Shared Folders window.
o Make sure that you have, at least, Everyone = Read Only set in the Users window.
o Select Options..., and then, verify that you have "Share files and folders using AFP" is enabled for Mac clients, and "Share files and folders using SMB" is enabled for Windows clients.
For the OS X Firewall: System Preferences > Security > Firewall
o If "Allow all incoming connections" is enabled, verify that: "File Sharing (AFP, SMB)" is now displayed in the list.

  • XP Pro on MacBook Pro Cannot Connect to AirPort Network

I just installed Windows XP using the Boot Camp set up utility. After I installed Windows, I went to set up a wireless network and went through the full process of setting it up. Since I've done that several times, XP Pro on my MacBook will not connect to my AirPort network. I have an airport network on one end of the house and on the other end, I have an airport express to increase the signal.
    Any ideas?

I feel your pain! I can tell you how to get into a protected net ... just not how to STAY connected for any appreciable time! Haven't figured that one out!
Go to your wireless connection icon ... bottom rhs of tool bar (XP)
    - 2x click that icon ... that'll bring up your connection
    - Highlight your connection
    - Select the "Change Advanced settings"... lower lhs of screen
    - When the next window pops-up, select the "Wireless Networks " tab
    - The next window should display your connection ... if not highlight it
    - Select properties
    - In this window you should select:
    - Shared for Network Auth
    - Select WEP for Data Encrypt
    - Input your Network Key (You can get this off your Airport Admin Utility by bringing up the Airport and selecting the "Lock" icon that's named "Password". Select password and it'll give you the hexadecimal equivalent. Input that into your Network Key window and authenticate.
    - Select OK and you should be good for about 5 mins!

  • MacBook Pro fails to see one network

In one room I have a Time Capsule broadcasting both a 2.4 gHz & a 5 gHz network. It's also connected by ethernet to an Ethernet Over Power adaptor which communicates with a second one in different room, which then broadcasts another 2.4 gHz network.
I have an iMac in the second room next to the EOP box and it sees the network from that box, plus the 2.4 gHz & 5 gHz networks from the Time Capsule in the other room.
I have a MacBook Pro sitting next to the iMac and it, too, sees the network from the EOP box, and the 5 gHz network from the Time Capsule, but it doesn't see the 2.4 gHz network from the Time Capsule. In fact, even if I put the MacBook Pro next to the Time Capsule, it doesn't see the 2.4 gHz network, yet it sees and connects to the 5gHz network and, when it's in the other room, the 2.4gHz network from the EOP box.
Does anyone know why the MacBook Pro doesn't see just this one network?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve  = : ^ )

    Something to test
Click the Apple logo at the top left, hold down the option key, and About this Mac will change to System information.
In this window, goto the wifi and see if the network your missing is listed here.

  • Mac can't see wireless network - have checked other posts but no  solution!

I have scanned many posts on this topic but have not seen my specific problem resolved, so I'm starting a new post. Here's all the facts and things I've checked.
    Hardware Details
    iMac 1.25 GHz G4
Airport Extreme card (shows up in system profiler)
    Linksys 802.11g router
    Network Details
    WPA Personal
Have never had a problem using this network. 2 PC's an 2 Macs regularly connect. Right now one PC and my wife's MacBook Pro are using the network.
The iMac was seeing the network yesterday - today it can't even see it!
Per the advice from many helpful posters, I have checked that mac addressing is disabled on the router.
I have checked that appletalk is active on the iMac
I have restarted the iMac several times after applying various changes.
This is a very perplexing problem. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi kmacwilliam,
I am having a similar issues with yours, my MBP and MB couldnt not stay connect to the dlink router recently. But the PC's been working fine all the time. The wireless would drop and could not see the network again while my neighbours' networks were still displaying. Even restarting the MBP and router wont see my wireless network.
You can try these things and see if it works for you, it's worked for me for time being. Please post back the outcomes:
    1. Delete any airport-related passwords in the "Keychain" so no airport passwords are stored
    2. Shut down the iMac
    3. Reset the PMU in your case for the G4 iMac, you may need to open your back case to reset it
    3. Turn on your iMac and you should see the network again
I am suspecting this might be software issue, hope this works for you.

  • Macbook Pro doesn't see Airport Express

    Hi,
I've been struggling with connection to my Airport Express.
My Macbook Pro (OS X 10.6.7 + all the latest updates) doesn't recognize it anymore. Occasionally, my wireless network was briefly visible to the Mac, but connecting to it only led to a time out. My Windows laptop from work did not have issues connecting, and neither did my iPhone...
I've done a reset of the AE, which did not help (my Windows laptop now shows the Apple Network XXXXX that is supposed to appear). However, the Airport Utility that is supposed to help me reinstall the thing from my Mac will not recognize it either...
Anyone any suggestions on where to go from here?

I am having the same problem. Right now i am sharing the wireless connection through the iPhone because my MBP2011 won't even see the SSID broadcasted by the airport express.
I hace tried emptying the keychain, emptying the list of known networks but nothing helps. It had the same kind of episode last week but after a lot of rebooting and editing of the AE over ethernet cable it started working again.
Tonight I came home from work, started the MBP and it wouldn't see the network. It has popped up once but clicking on it only resulted in a timeout error message.
Any help would be much appreciated! The AE is only a month old..
    MBP2011
    OS: Lion latest update
Airport utility and AE are updated. The utility doesn't see the AE.
    iStumbler doesn't see the AE-network.
    Please advise,
    Sebastian

  • Aria Extreme Can't see Airport Network

I have a Lombard PowerBook that I am fixing up for my daughter to use. I put a new 40 gig HD in it and loaded up 10.3. After that I plugged it into my home network via ethernet and ran software update.
I originally bought a Wavelan PC Card for accessing my Airport Extreme network, but found that it does not support WPA security and that's pretty important. I then picked up a Sonnet Aria Extreme card and, after updating the Airport drivers to version 4.2, I got the machine to recognize the card as an Airport card and thought I'd be able to connect to my network.
Unfortunately I am having trouble and cannot connect. The Airport turns on, but it does not see my network in Internet Connect. I do not have a closed network and in fact I can see my network as well as my neighbor's network in the Airport menu of my iBook, while sitting next to the PowerBook.
I have confirmed that I have the correct security settings (WPA2 Personal) and password on all machines. I also, as mentioned, have had my iBook, with its built-in antenna right next to the PowerBook, so I'm pretty sure it should be able to see the network as it is in range.
Please let me know if anyone else has had such a problem and has found a solution.

if the computer running ARD is on the wireless network then it'll see any clients on the same network. if the computer running ARD is on a wired network and a wireless network exist on that wired network, you will not see any of the computers on the wireless network. you can forward the required ports to one specific computer on the wireless network on the router.
to control any other computers on the wireless network, you'd have to install another licensed copy of ARD on the computer that you've forwarded the ports to and then open up ARD on that with your main admin mac to then control the other computers on the wireless network. thus you'd be running ARD on computer 'A' to control computer 'B' and then use computer 'B', from computer 'A' to control all other clients.

  • Macbook Pro does not see Fast Ethernet but works fine with Gigabit Ethernet

    Hi to everybody,
It is some time I have a problem connecting my unibody Macbook Pro (late 2008) to the ethernet cables in my office. There are 16 wall jacks in the lab, of which 13 are Fast Ethernet (100 Mbit/s) and 3 are Gigabit Ethernet. No matter what I do, if I connect to the 100 Mbit/s jacks, my Macbook does not see the connection and keeps saying "Cable unplugged". If I switch to a Gigabit jack, then a connection is quickly established.
I have spent one whole afternoon debugging. Here is what I did:
My computer dual boots Mac OS X and Linux. No matter which operating system I use, the problem is the same.
Using different Cat.5 cables does not change the situation (I tried three of them.)
All the 13 Fast Ethernet jacks do not work.
All the 3 Gigabit jacks work smoothly.
What puzzles me is that my computer happly uses the newest technology (Gigabit ethernet) but has problems with the oldest one. Has somebody else experienced the same problem?

After a lot of struggle, I discovered that other people had this very issue as well. It seems that the cause is a faulty Realtek chip used in the ethernet cards of some MacBooks and other brands. There is apparently no way to fix this: I solved my problems by buying a Gigabit Ethernet switch which I connected to the Fast Ethernet wall jack. (Another option might be to use a Ethernet-to-USB adapter - but I did not try this as I have no adapter of this kind.)

  • I previously owned an iPad. I want to restore my iBook collection from my iPad to my Macbook. I can only see my collections but not the books. How can I restore it from my iPad backup?

I prevsiouly owned an Ipad. Before selling it, I backup it on my Macbook. When the new Mavericks has been released, i upgraded my Mac. Now that I have iBooks on my Mac, I want to restore my iBook collection from my previous Ipad to my Mac. On my Mac, I can only see the iBooks collection of my previous iPad but not the books that I have purchased. I probably had more than a hundred books on my collection (in epub and pdf formats). I have already tried transferring purchases in iTunes and adding to my Library but to no avail.
Can anyone give me a solution to this.

Restore as a NEW device to test. If this solves it, that means there is some corruption in your backup file, or maybe it's one of your apps causing the trouble. If the problem is still there, you should take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store for evaluation.

Asper subject folks, ARD sees everthing on the ethernet network but i can't see an option to tell it to scan on the wireless network, is there an option buried somewhere I can't see

  • Can't see my win7 library on my mac, yet I can see mac's in windows (itunes 11)

Let me start by saying that I did not use Home Sharing before, It's my first time I tried to use that.
I have 2 computers, one of them is PC, connected to router via ethernet cabel, and the second one is MBP, connected to the network by wifi.
I set up a Home Sharing, and the problem is, that I can browse my Mac library in WIndows without any problems, but my Mac can't see windows library at all.
Any solutions possible? It's not that it does not work; in fact it does, but only in one way.

Purchasing the music only gives you one download for it, but you can move and backup the song files as if they were any other type of file; to locate them, control-click a purchased item in iTunes, choose Get Info, and navigate to the listed location. Drag them into the open iTunes window on the second Mac.
