MacBook Pro Case Deformity

I've had my MBP for about 4 months, but I've just noticed that the case has begun to deform.
The main area of deformation is on the lower part of the laptop. Specifically, the top plate (ie the plate with the speaker grills, keyboard and trackpad) is coming away from the lower case in the bottom left hard corner (ie the corner closest to me that doesn't have the optical drive). It appears that the top left hard corner is becoming loose as well.
I've never made any modifications to the system or opened the case in anyway.
Anyway, I'd welcome any advice as to what I should do about it, because obviously I'm not happy that my laptop's joints are popping.

Have you checked your battery? Take it out and look for any swelling, splitting, or any deformity. Place it on a flat surface. Does it rock back and forth?
I say this because a swelling battery, which Apple has had some, will cause the deformity you talk about as the battery will push the case and components up and outward. Also check if you battery was on the exchange list if you have not yet done so.
Check back and let us know what you come up with.

    Bag n’ Tag It
    by: Digital Dude
In today’s world of everything slim and integrated, more techno fanatics and Spartan travelers are embracing the minimalist approach. To that end, I was looking for an alternative to my bulky computer briefcase for travel. So, I ordered the “Buzz” by Tom Bihn.
Initially, I was a bit skeptical since the price of the Buzz is rather high for a nylon bag in today’s crowded market. Fortunately, the folks at Tom Bihn have an excellent guarantee with great customer service. If you receive the bag, and it’s not what you expected, simply return it without having to request an authorization. Try that with any other bag manufacturer!
    Exterior:
My first impression after opening the box was that the Buzz is in fact, a very well made nylon sling-bag with attractive accents. The initial fit on the back and shoulder was comfortable, and the crossover strap is wide and it fits guys and gals without interference. It’s also nicely padded and has a large durable quick disconnect fastener below your left rib area. There is a smaller adjustable waist strap for a more secure and balanced fit. I found it wasn’t necessary for casual carry although quite useful when riding a bike or running to catch that flight.
    Interior:
The Buzz has two main compartments with waterproof zippers that don’t snag and they seal very well.
The main compartment houses a unique padded panel with a fitted corner, similar to a fitted bed sheet that stretches over one corner of the MacBook Pro. The space between the computer holder and the zippered panel provides room for a book, magazines, documents, or even a small travel neck pillow.
The second zippered compartment is on the very back and is slightly smaller or stepped down from the main compartment. It includes the usual key strap and some angled stitched pockets for pens, business cards and one larger pocket that can hold a Passport or airline tickets, etc.
The third compartment is on the exterior right side and is made of elastic material and is designed to hold a bottle, small umbrella or equivalent. It also has two pull straps to further secure its contents.
Finally, there is a super convenient compartment in the center of the crossover strap with a Velcro closure. This is my favorite feature, since it holds your cell, iPod or more notably, the new iPhone securely across your chest.
    Field Tests:
I harnessed the Buzz, adjusted the straps and wore it for a week in and around town. The Buzz and its sling design holds' the 15-inch MacBook Pro, cables, charger, etc. in a vertical orientation on the back. This permits full range of motion for both arms, unlike most soft-sided computer briefcases.
At times, I wanted to shift the load, so I simply reached around with my left hand and lifted up slightly on the bottom as I grabbed the ferry-loop (top strap) with my right hand. In this manner, you can easily adjust the tension on the crossover strap.
The Buzz shoulder bag is advertised as offering “moderate” protection, although it’s quite adequate for most common travel activities. However, I wanted to see if I could fit my MacBook Pro while stuffed in the Tucano “Second Skin” sleeve. To my delight, it fit nearly perfect as though it was made for “The Buzz”. This combination effectively increases the travel protection by at least 2:1.
    Wish List:
Accessory provisions or lack thereof, is a shortfall with many bag manufactures. User’s end up stuffing their charger, cables and adapters into secondary bags which all end up at the bottom, resulting in disorganized clutter. I visualize a removable fitted panel with separate compartments or straps that hold a basic array of typical computing items. In fact, I ended up using one of my luggage toiletry panels to help organize my computer gear in the Buzz. It holds everything vertically and eliminated the pile at the bottom.
After field-testing, I decided this bag was definitely a keeper’. However, I would prefer a tighter fit of the MacBook Pro or a matching sleeve. I would also favor a more contoured and softer crossover strap with an exterior I.D. card and pen/pencil slot. Since I’m dreaming here, how about a less abrasive backside for improved comfort.
    Conclusion:
The Buzz sling bag is a well-made, lightweight, ergonomic alternative to a backpack or the horizontal briefcase design. It holds most everything one might need for mobile computing while providing an excellent provision for Apple’s new iPhone.
    Regards,
    ~DD

  • Macbook Pro Case Very Flimsey

Recently I have noticed mysterious deformities to my macbook pro case. I have a 15" and in the 4 months that I have had it I have never dropped it but dents are started to appear in different places around the case. I always carry it in a case to protect it and I am very careful around so I have no idea what could be causing these dents and it is very frustrating. I was wondering if apple would be able to fix it or if they would be willing to exchange the computer because maybe its my particular case. Alright thanks for any help if you can provide it.

    Hey LongPole,
Are you using a laptop bag? One that has it's own padded compartment? That is really what you need. I wouldn't just put it in with books. Either buy a sleeve or a bag with a compartment.

  • 115vac felt on my macbook pro case during charging

During charging of my new Macbook pro , a " tingle " is felt on the Macbook pro case. I am using a 3 prong power strip that has a ground led installed on the device and is "showing green" when plugged into the wall socket so I know the power strip is working properly. The power adapter for the Macbook pro is " two prong " device and has a " floating Ground " My XPS dell had the same problem and dell sent me a " 3 prong " power adapter which fixed the problem.
Please advise if Apple sells a " 3 prong adapter " to correct this issue.
    -- Joe M

No damage. When opening the computer to change memory cards it is recommended that you touch anything metal on the case to discharge any static on your body. Obviously Apple wouldn't recommend this if it was at all likely to cause damage. However, extraneous charges on the actual chips, circuitry, etc can cause damage. These are all insulated from the chassis itself and things such as HD casing.

  • 2008 MacBook pro Case Question

    Hello all,
I rececntly bought a late 2008 MacBook pro Pre Unibody model.. I love it.. it's by far the best laptop I've ever used or owned..
    Anyway
I like it so much, I am looking for a case for it, I cant seem to find any on Amazon though.. I know it's a slightly older model but..
Anyone Have any Ideas about where to find one?
    Thanks

    Cap10323,
does a search for “17 inch macbook pro case” on Amazon return no products at all?

  • Dented MacBook Pro case and lid

The top right corner of the lid and bottom right corner of the base of the late 2008 macbook pro are slightly dented. I've had my Macbook Pro for about 3 weeks now and just got round to opening it last week and after further inspection this past week I've noticed today the lid and base has a small dent in it. Looking at the corners i can see clearly they're not rounded the same and the base corner is grazed and lighter colour of aluminum.
I've kept my mbp in the box for 3 weeks even this past week when ive been using it, its never been out the house and i've been working on it at my desk away from me damaging it. So I have received the product like this.
I rang up AppleCare and they said to take it to a local repair centre, which is 30 miles away, ill be going there on Monday.
Has anyone found any dents on their macbook pros?
I have AppleCare that I paid for at the time of the laptop purchase.
What will Apple do? Will they replace it? Since its dented..and the new casing technology...it'll be pretty difficult and time consuming to just replace the case dont you think ?
What do you think they do, and what normally happens in this situation anybody know?
How long do you think the repair will take?
I don't expect to pay the amount of money I have done for this for it to come with these problems. First day i opened it i noticed greasy finger prints and marks on keyboard, i used the cloth included to get rid of these, but just noticing this dent, its really annoyed me. My came straight from the factory I think, I ordered it the day they were released, about an hour after I recall and waited a couple of weeks for it to be delivered. Now this...
Thanks for any responses in advance.

I have a tiny pinhole dent on my late '08 Mac on the top of the lid in between the apple logo and the edge (also purchased near rls date). I'm not sure if it was there when I purchased, but I don't think so. However, I'm suffering from cognitive dissonance as I treat this think like a baby. It really aggravates me... I've tried to pop it out (rather miserably) with a suction cup to no avail. What recourse do you think I'd have with Apple. I'd definitely like to get it fixed. These new aluminum body macs are far too prone to denting, because if I caused the dent, it wansn't from any overt action... I haven't even taken the thing outside since I've had it... sits on a computer desk at all times. HELP, I must have OCD because it bugs me to look at!
I also think these books heat up way too much as my cpu hovers at near 80F (~78) when under full load, according to iStat, but that's another story.

  • MacBook Pro Case

After owning iPhones, iPads and Minis for several years, I finally broke down and ordered a MacBook Pro.  However, I would like to get a case to protect it when I am using it.  I do like the personalization the hard cases provide, but I have read many reviews that say most don't last 12 months.  Are there any recommendations?

I use these for a 15-inch and 13-in rMBP and a 13-in MBP. Hardshell cases seem to break at edges and stress points. I have both Black and White.
The colors are definitely limited. I wrote to Tech21 for additional colors and they said they would consider it based on other requests.
You can try different brands within their respective return window to get a better feel before you choose.

  • Getting low voltage from the Macbook Pro Case

I'm getting low voltage throughout the casing whenever the brick is plugged in my 2011 macbook pro 13".  I can run my fingers across the case and get the 60hz hum from the ac current.  Pretty neat effect, not sure if it's totally safe or not.  I tried plugging it into several outlets and changed the surge protector, with no changes happening.  Anyone else getting this issue?  Thank you for listening!!!

I have exactly the same problem. How did you fix it?
    Is it magsafe adapter issue?

  • Electrical Tingling Sensation from MacBook Pro Case

I am starting this as a new discussion/thread as all others that are similar seem to be archived now.
We have just bought a superb, MacBook Pro 15" i7. Lovely it is. Works like a dream and much quicker than the MacBook it has replaced. Anyway, the problem...
When this MacBook Pro is connected to either our Samsung Syncmaster BX2431 or our Hitachi 1TB external and NOT getting power from mains then we get this mild, but weird and worrying, tingling sensation from the case. When the MacBook is receiving power from mains then its OK.
Will also add that if MBP is running on battery without these devices attached then its fine and dandy. As soon as one of these is connected then... zing... its not painful or anything, but prolonged use does make it uncomfortable.
The Samsung is connected to mains using a transformer to convert power from AC to DC, but the AC supply uses full 3-pin plug (no dummy earth pin), the external USB also uses a transformer but does have a dummy earth pin.
Monitor: if I connect a different VGA monitor -- that has AC power supplied directly -- then we don't get this tingling.
We purchased at Stormfront. We will take it in but, of course, they've never heard of it... and it does seem to be an old problem (2007, 2008).
    Are we alone? Any suggestions?

    Hi tjk.
Yes and no. Have tried both. Have tried in same four-gang extension, separate four-gang extensions... no surge protection... and into wall. Have only tried in this room though.
We only get this problem when MBP is NOT connected to main... i.e., when using battery. When we connect to power and charge battery then its all OK... as its earthed (we use the three-pin plug with mains cable, not the travel-adapter thing).

  • How easy does the MacBook Pro case bend?

    Hello All,
I've been waiting for the problems with the MacBook Pro to slow down before I purchase one. But, I've recently read numerous stories (on this and other forums) about the case bending in various places.
From what I have read, it sounds like the aluminum case has weak spots and will bend with little pressure.
The complaints I have read indicated that the area around the CD-ROM drive may bend slightly where you rest your palms while typing.
It sounds like the bends are usually minor, but occasionally more severe.
    My question is:
Is this something that is fairly common?
Is this just one of the issues that people don't complain about much since it is mostly cosmetic?
I have never owned one of the Aluminum Mac Portables. So, I can't judge this for myself. And, I'm not particularly sure that the local dealer would let me flex on the computer a bit to see if it would bend.
The iBook we have is plastic. So, that obviously wouldn't have the same potential.
I guess I am just asking what everyone's experience is with this. It would be helpful to me to determine whether this is a machine that I should continue considering (once the bugs are worked-out) or if I should stick with a plastic machine like the iBook when the new models come out.
I imagine that both PowerBook and MacBook Pro owners would be able to comment on the potential for the aluminum case to bend.
Thank you in advance for your answers and experience.

So it is very stiff then?
I guess I got the impression that over time the panel would bend slightly from resting your hands on it.
I am wanting something that is very durable, and won't become easily damaged when I finally purchase another computer.
Some people have mentioned that it bent slightly, or that the edges of the CD-ROM drive could make an impression on the case from the weight of your hands resting on the case (or maybe with a little pressure).
So, I was concerned that this might be something that I should consider when evaluating which machine I should get as my next computer.
I should add that I do also have a young daughter that will sometime use the computer to play with her programs and such.
So, structural strength is very important.
I am generally not concerned with out current machines because the keyboards are very solid (especially with the Mac Mini and iMac G3).
But, with a machine that has the keyboard and palm-rest built-in, I would be concerned that it might be easily damaged if the material is not strong enough.

  • Will a MacBook Pro case from 2009 fit my new MacBook Pro?

So I just bought a new 13" MacBook Pro w/o retina display from Apple and there's a case I'm looking to buy for a 13" MacBook Pro w/o retina display, but the case was made in 2009. Are there any structural differences between the two? Can I still use this case?
Thanks for reading, please let me know!

That will fit the latest model. I stand corrected.

  • Ecological MacBook Pro case?

    Hi there,
I'm a fan of organic / environmental bags and clothing, so naturally I want an organic bag for my MacBook Pro. There are some suppliers for generic laptop cases, e.g. nice bags made of hemp, but I was wondering whether anybody knew a bag that would fit a 15" MBP… haven't found anything in the Apple store.
The generic bags typically fit laptops up to 17", so might be a bit loose.
    thanks
    Hendrik

Well, from the lack of follow-up posts I conclude that ecological laptop bags are not a big market.
Anyway, I ended up buying an organic hemp laptop bag from sativabags: http://www.sativabags.com/onlinestore/hemp_multi_purpose_laptopbag.cfm
As expected it's not a tight fit for the MBP, but it's better than I thought. While the bag would fit two MBPs side by side, the width and height come close to perfect fit. One interesting feature is the magnetic buttons at the front, which remind a bit of the MagSafe technology. There's good padding and lots of space for cables, power bricks, iPods etc. The material looks good and feels nice. I think there are probably more lightweight materials, but I guess if you want to go for a eco-friendly option, you have to carry that small bit of extra weight. Otherwise, can't complain about anything so far really.
    cheers
    Hendrik
