Macbook Pro causing lag on home network

Hello,
I got 2 PCs and a Macbook Pro connected to my Home Network. Whenever the Macbook Pro is connected to it the networks starts to have constant lag spikes.
If only the 2 PCs are connected everything runs smooth. I tried using an Ethernet cable instead of wireless but the problem remains so i guess that the problem is actually something on my Macbook.
Any ideas what can it be? And how to solve it?
Thank you so much for you attention.

Usually, that's because both MBP's are trying to use the same IP address.
However, we need more information, like the type of router you're using.

  • My macbook pro can see my home wi-fi network but cannot connect to it.  My iphone and ipad are connected to my home wi-fi so the problem is not the modem.

Wow, I tried to submit this as a problem and the computer lost the wifi connection again, so i lost the whole explanation i typed up.
I've turned off computer and modem multiple times.
When I tried to run the network diagnostic, the macbook pro gave me a "perhaps you are out of range error".  I am sitting next to the modem.
My iphone and ipad are wonderfully connected to the home wifi network, so it cannot be the modem/router, correct?
If I am on the same floor as the router/modem then the macbook pro can see my home network but after tyoing in my password and trying to connect i get a "timed out" message.
If I move down one floor, then the macbook can see and connect to the wifi.  I only have one modem on one floor.
Is there some sort of diagnostic I can run to see why this particular device (macbook pro) is behaving ths way?  It just seems weird because the computer could connect to the wifi network yesterday while i was sitting next to the router.

    SOLUTION!
I've been suffering from this problem for a few months.  I tried everything suggested by everyone, and then, today, I had a mad idea.
I used to work in a room in the house that's about 12 metres away from the router. It's on the next storey up and horizontally about 8 metres away.  The problem started when I began to work in the same room as the router.
Today I became so frustrated that for some reason I walked into a room about 8 metres away on the same level - Guess what?  I connected with no problem at all. Feeling full of joy I walked back to the room where the router is located - Dropped internet connection within a few minutes!  Walked back to the the room that's 8 metres away and, hey presto! I have a connection. I now realise that the problem was that I moved too close to the router.
I can think of no logical explanation for my experience, but empirically it seems to work.  Does anyone have the faintest idea of why this should be the case?  In the absence of an answer I think I may have to start believing in fairies at the bottom of the garden - I'm just off to set a meal for them.
By the way, I don't know if it has any significance, but the router is a BT Infinity router that has replaced the incredibly unreliable Virgin Media cable connection

Recently I was working on my home Network and lost myPassword for my Home wireless connection. After many attempts, I remembered thepassword and was able to get in. Now the MacBook Pro only works at home on aHard wire connection. I have an additional 9 devices on the same network, allare functioning properly. The Air connection works fine at any other Networksout side the Home connection. I did a PRAM reset, deleted the Network profileand rebuilt in System Preferences. Still unable to connect wireless on Homenetwork. Any Ideas?

I seem to have fixed it by putting <div  class="clearfloat"></div> after the navigation bar?

  • Connecting a macbook pro to a verizon wireless network

how do i connect a macbook pro to a verizon wireless network? Wi-Fi connection automatically assigns an IP address and indicates that the Mac won't be able to connect to the internet. Two other MacBook Pros connect to the network without any problems. These Macs travel from home to school and back again and automatically reconnect when they are brought into the house.

I have read a few corporate IT policies and they are all PC-centric.
Unless your mac runs any windows tools such as Bootcamp Wine, Crossover, or a VM in parallels or VMware then your mac has no virus implications.
A few years ago word documents could be infected with macro viruses and although did not affect a mac a mac could pass them on. Up to date versions of Microsoft Word documents are not vulnerable to this flaw.
You could install ClamAV its a free anti virus app for the mac that would keep your IT dept happy.
Maybe I can find out what the WEP key is with a utility of some kind.
If you had a compatible usb wifi dongle and kismac you could crack their WEP key but this would be probably illegal in your country so I dont condone this activity but if you got written permission from your employer to give them a free penetration test, something that normally involves hiring a security company this would save them money and highlight the insecurity on their network.
    Or use an Ethernet connection.

  • MacBook Pro (Retina) Wi-Fi Drops Network

My MacBook Pro keeps dropping my wireless network, which is broadcast through the new Apple router tower.  Is this a problem with the Mountain Lion Wi-Fi software?  Any fixes or patches?

(Repost from another Apple message board)
Had the same pervasive problem (inexplicable dropped internet connection at random times requiring restart) with a brand new flagship stock model 15.4 inch late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro with Graphics card purchased in December 2013 from local Apple store (Intel chip = Crystalwell version). Ongoing problem started about 2 weeks after initial purchase, and would happen with both Wifi **and** (I discovered yesterday) Ethernet connections. We have the latest Apple Extreme and multiple Expresses running 802.11n at home with 75/25 Verizon Fios internet speed.
Apple Care phone tech support over past 10 days of little help. Scoured these message boards for a solution - none found.
So, I took to local Apple store 1/12/14. Thankfully, problem cropped up in-store. As such, "Genius" turned off Kaspersky virus protection.  Problem remedied itself **instantaneously** and has not happened since.  No restart was needed.
Theory: appears 3rd party software (in my case, Kaspersky) in some way is interfering with new Crystalwell/Haswell chips.
Regardless, so far, so good. Hours of continuous internet...and counting.
Will post an update if this happens again.
    Good luck.

Lojack for laptops - if that is the product you purchased and installed, you will need to read the user manual or contact the manufacturer as it is 3rd party.  You did file a police report right?

  • MacBook Pro can't see Airport network but three other macs in house can

Very strange. I can connect my three iMacs (G3, G5 PowerPC and G5 Intel) to my Airport Extreme Network, but my MacBook Pro can no longer see the Network, and Airport utility (from MacBook Pro) cannot see the Airport base station (although other macs' Airport Utility can no problem). My MacBook pro can see 4 other networks (my neighbours' networks). Doesn't seem to be a problem with my MacBook Pro airport card as I can connect to the (non-Mac) wireless network at work with no problem. Am really confused (not the first time)!
Installed the latest Airport Extreme firmware last week, which was the start of the problem, as I then lost the ability to connect to my Virgin Media Broadband digital TV box, necessitating Virgin engineer visiting at weekend to connect a cable modem to the cable tv box, to which the Airport Extreme station is now attached. Had problems connecting my MacBook Pro last night, but eventually managed it. All other macs connect seamlessly. Am stumped.

I'm troubleshooting a friend's MacBook (Model ID: MacBook4,1) that is having serious Airport problems. This machine's Airport can't see ANY available networks. Sitting right next to my MacBook (identical model), hers is blind while mine can see several open and locked networks including my own Airport base station. If I choose to "Join Other Network..." and enter the network name and password for my network, her machine almost immediately gives me a "Connection timed out" error. It doesn't matter where her MacBook is, it can't see any networks anywhere.
This is a new problem as her Airport was working fine for the first few months. I've just finished making sure all software updates have been applied so she's now running the latest-greatest, but still no Airport.
This sounds similar to the problems other folks here are describing so I figured I'd add my voice to the chorus. I guess I'll take her machine down to the local Apple store this afternoon and see if they have any ideas. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if her Airport card was fried.

  • My macbook doesnt not find my home network.

My macbook doesnt not find my home network. It finds the surrounding networks but not my home network. My ipod touch and iphone uses the home network and another computer in the house. My home network does not appear in the wifi drop list and when I search via network preferences it doesnt help even though i am using the correct password. Every once in a while it will find the network more thats the exception.

Turn the router and modem off then back on.
I don't have iStubmler downloaded but someone told me that it can do a better job of picking up network signals. So you might try downloading it, but I can't say that I know it will help.

  • Macbook pro is lagging

i have a 15 inch macbook pro which lags when i open apps, go online and watch videos and my internet is an average speed. I recently cleared my iphoto and old documents and have 8gb left on my hardrive, Please reply if you know why, it's also updated.

Empty the trash in the Dock as well as iPhoto’s trash!
Open up your application folder & go through all your apps.  Trash all the apps you no longer want and/or use.
An easier way to do this is to open the Application folder in list view & press the Command+j keys.
In the the dialog that appears, click the "This Window Only" button & the "Calculate All Sizes" check box.
Wait a bit until your file & folder sizes have all been calculated, then click the "Size" column to sort your apps from the fattest to the most anorexic.
Get rid of all your photo files you don't want and/or need.  Same goes for those pics off the websites you downloaded (gifs, jpegs, etc.).  Or transfer/move them all to a photo/movie storage site like ImageShack and Photobucket, 2 of the most popular  FREE  storage sites.
Get rid of all your video & music files you no longer view and/or listen too.  Especially, if you already have the actual CD/DVDs or you can later redownload from a website.  Or transfer them all to a FREE video/movies and/or music storage site.
Use Spotlight to make sure you got rid of everything.  You can even trash directly from Spotlight!  Better yet, download this FREE software called Find File.  This app puts Spotlight to shame (works w/Mountain Lion).
Drag what you don't want and/or need to the trash.  Better yet, download this neat little shareware app *demo* called AppZapper.  It basically does all the work for you by not only trashing the apps but the apps preference files, caches & all its associated files.
Another software that does the above is AppDelete.  Best of all this software is free!
Burn what you want and/or need onto CDs or DVDs. Not everyone has the  luxury of purchasing an external HD and/or the system requirements for iCloud to store their "stuff.”
Dropbox is a free storage utility to check out.
You can check with your ISP to see if they offer *free* storage space.  Most if not all do now-a-days.   There are thousands if not millions of *free* storage facilities on the web also.  Use your favorite search engine to search them out as they come in different storage sizes to fit your needs & wants.
    Check for duplicate fonts.
    Applications>Font Book
    Select “All Fonts”
If you see any “black dots” next to any fonts this mean you have duplicates and/or multiple versions of these fonts.
    To clean this up, select a “black dotted” font or the Apple + *click* to select multiple dotted fonts;
    Edit>Resolve>Duplicates.
What the above does is turns off the duplicates & multiple version fonts.  Not delete them.
More than likely the “extras” were installed by other programs and/or other users.
    Clear out font caches
Use FontNuke.  It does all the work for you.  And, best of all it’s *FREE*.
    Printer Drivers
Get rid of all the printer drivers you don’t need & use except the ones for your *current* printer(s)/scanner(s).
    HD>Library>Printers Folder
If you accidently threw something out that you needed for your printer/scanner it can be easily obtained from the manufacturer’s website and/or from the CD that came w/the printer/scanner.
    Garage Band
Has about 1GB of loops stored.  Get rid of some some them.  You surely don’t use, like and/or need them all.
    HD>Library>Audio/Apple Loops>Apple>Apple Loops For GarageBand
Or just get rid of the Garage Band app altogether if you don’t use it.
    Get rid of extra languages
Strip your computer down to your “native” tongue.
You can do this with a *FREE* utility called Monolingual.  Another app that apparently does all the work for you.  I’ve never used it.  However, a lot of users here swear by & recommend it highly.
However, there is a warning for *native English speakers*. Make sure you keep BOTH English and English (United States).

  • MacBook Pro Can't find home wireless network

I've been having some issues getting my macbook pro, running OS 10.7.5, to find my home wireless network. The network doesn't show up when it searches automatically, and when I type the network name in to find it manually, it says no network found. The computer connects to all other networks and finds then with no issues, and other MacBooks are able to find my home network and connect to it again with no issues.
The computer used to be able to find the network, and then it just stopped working. I have tried all the standard fixes, resetting the router, computer, PRAM, forgetting the network, deleting the key from keychain, but nothing seems to work. I tried googling the issue, but wasn't able to find a problem similar to the one I have.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Still having problems with this.
I have upgraded to Mavericks, hoping that the problem would be fixed, but it hasn't. I still get all networks completely disappearing - even if I search for them they are not found.
But I reboot the computer and it works! But when I am in OS or Bootcamp mode and put the Mac to sleep, it does not see the networks again! I have to reboot the computer for it to work.
I have even got a new router which can receive the b,g and n signals etc. as I was told by a Mac techie here that Macs 'look' for the n signal but can also work with the b and g signals and THAT maybe my old router only transmits b and g or something like that .
This, to me, sounds like a Mac software problem. I had a similar problem on a previous Mac on my "old router" and a totally different router in a different country's telephone system.
I now have the same problem with a new MBP on a new router!
