MacBook Pro & Cintiqu 13HD & Another monitor

I have the new retina display MacBook Pro 15 inch 2.3Ghz with Retina display and a Samsung 24" monitor that uses my HDMI port. I would like to also purchase a Cintiqu 13HD. Is it possible to have the Cintiqu and the Samsung monitor all plugged into my MacBook Pro and have 3 monitors essentially? If I need to purchase other cables to make this happen please let me know. Thank you.

I have a 15" MBP and 23" Cinema Display, and my monitor has recently started doing similar things. Computer does not recognize display. Also the display's power on led on the front is not on constantly like it was in the past.
It feels like the monitor is starting to fail.
This monitor was never transported after it was first setup.
Computer normally operated in closed mode, using CD as primary monitor.

  • Problems connecting my MacBook Pro to an external monitor

For the past 2 years, I have regularly connected my MacBook Pro to an external monitor (Dell SR2320L) using a VGA cable. When I do so, the picture  automatically comes up in the maximum resolution of the external monitor (1920 x 1080). However, just in the past few weeks, the picture on my external monitor automatically comes up in 1600 x 1200 instead.  When I click on the display menu in the upper right corner of my screen, there isn't even an option for 1920 x 1080 anymore.  I've tried restarting my computer and even unplugging and replugging in the cable, but nothing seems to fix the problem. However, on at least some occasions, the problem seems to fix itself after about a day or so of use, and the picture reverts back to 1920 x 1080. I should note a couple of things: when I connect another MacBook to my monitor, the display automatically comes up in 1920 x 1080. And when I connect my Macbook to a different display, I have the same problem as I have with my display. So I think the issue is definitely with my computer, not my monitor. Does anyone have a suggestion about how to solve this problem? Or, when the problem arises, is there anything I can do to reset the display to 1920 x 1080 other than waiting for the problem to fix itself? Any suggestions woudl be greatly appreciated!

    Hi bonfig,
If you are having issues with the external display settings on your MacBook Pro, it may be worth going throught the following article, in particular the portion about resetting the SMC and PRAM:

Why is it that when I plug my Macbook Pro to an external monitor, the external monitor turns black and shows the mouse only

Hi, yes preferences sees there is a second display it recognises what make of monitor it is etc but I just get a blank blue screen on the monitor when I change it to the hdmi setting! I have tried with mirroring on and off, rearranging the displays in the preference window and lots of different resolution settings but with no difference.
An old MacBook connects fine so the monitor and hdmi port must be okay. I'm sure we have used the cable before but it could have been with the previous MacBook Air. The current one I'm using is a mid 2011 version running lion and is (according to software update) all up to date.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!

  • How can connect my Macbook Pro to a TV Monitor ?

How can i connect my MacBook Pro to a TV monitor other way than 15 pin cable ?

I would check out Monoprice. I bought this cable for my late 2011 MBP - it attaches to a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort and then out to HDMI. It's just a small adapter - under $7 - and worked quite well for me. You'll have to get a HDMI cable of your desired length to work with it. I also suggest using Monoprice for HDMI cables - they've excellent quality and low prices.

  • MacBook Pro to my external monitor

How do I hook up my MacBook Pro to my external monitor if I don't have an HDMI connection or a DVI connection port on my laptop?

Of course! some of the adapters can be purchased at best buy but are usually kind of expensive. I saw an HDMI adapter at Home Depot the other day for $7 which is a good deal.
Although, im not even sure if youre in the U.S., so this information be irrelevant to you anyway haha.

have a problem with my MacBook Pro.5,3 and monitor.  Intermittently, the desk top screen becomes broken up into vertical sections, which appear in the wrong order, creating a haphazard picture.
The Apple icon, usually at top left corner, appears in top right corner  in a strip including all that left hand.  When the computer is restarted, the screen goes back to normal.  But I have to move the mouse to the far left of the screen and then up until it reappears on the far right hand side of the screen so that I can hit shut down button.
It seems to happen randomly though always on desk top and sometimes when I move mouse and computer switches on from rest mode.   My large flat screen is relatively new.
The video card on this computer, which is approximately two years old, is Nvidia FeForce 9400M.
Any help would be welcome as my usual source of assistance is not available and I am not well versed in workings of the Mac although I have used one for many years.

That sounds like a Hardware problem.
You may be able to confirm that with Apple Hardware Test, or make an appointmenst for a free Genius Bar evaluation.

Press any key on the wireless keyboard after you close the MBP and it goes to sleep. The computer will wake up with the external monitor as its display. This is called Clamshell mode.

    Rhoda123

    Hi Rhoda123!
It sounds like you may need to reset a part of your system that deals with your video card, and this is commonly known as PRAM. We have an article that talks about the functioning of this part of your computer and how to reset it, which can be found here:
    About NVRAM and PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
Specifically, this section will probably be the most relevant to resolving your issue:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information. If issues persist, your Mac's logic board battery (not a portable Mac's rechargeable battery) may need to be replaced. The logic board battery helps retain NVRAM/PRAM settings when your computer is shut down. You can take your Mac to a Mac Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.

  • Can I use MacBook pro A1211 with external monitor, screen has died but

CCan I use MacBook pro A1211 with external monitor, screen has died but computer seems fine

Hmm seems like this model has DVI out. You could just plug a standard DVI monitor into that. Or use the DVI connector (VGA supported with included adapter; S-video and composite video supported with optional adapters) adapter that came w/ your machine.

  • Using MacBook Pro display for another computer, is this possible?

I have a MacBook Pro and an older Dell tower, i would like to see if I can use an input on the MacBook Pro to view my desktop on the Dell without the use of another monitor clogging up my workspace. Im thinking firewire or something.... i don't know.... Thanks.

You cannot use a display built into a Mac as a monitor for another machine, as no Mac has a video-in port. You may be able to get a workable configuration by installing a VNC server on the PC and then using a VNC client on the MacBook Pro such as this one to control it.

  • Windows 8 on boot camp on MacBook Pro retina w/external monitors = screen resolution not correct

how do i calibrate external monitors resolutions individually in windows 8 (like can be done in OS X) so that my MacBook Pro retina text isn't teeny tiny and my external monitors look normal? Is there a way to set the resolution and text size for each monitor separate from one another in Windows 8? Thanks for the help.

In Windows 8 use the help menu and search for external display.

  • Cant connect MacBook Pro to LG external monitor.

I used a mini display port to hdmi cable that is connected to the monitor however, no signal is detected. I went to the display tab and it is says the 'arrangement' tab is hidden as it is only available when another device is connected.  This makes me think neither device is aware of the connection.   Can anyone please help?

    Greetings rtmoms,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are having an issue where your external monitor, when connected to your MacBook Pro, shows no video or signal. In this situation, I would recommend reading over and working through the steps in the attached article.

  • Macbook Pro -- DUAL or TRIPLE MONITORS

I have a macbook pro laptop
Can I set up my system so my primary monitor is in landscape mode while the secondary displays in portrait mode? That would be very usefull for me.
If the screen is closed.. then dual monitor is fine..
    -phillip

AFAIK, you can rotate any display connected to the couputer as long as the video card supports display rotation (which includes all current Macs running 10.4.whatever). Each display you connect will represented by an icon in Display prefs. However, I don't see how you would connect more than one external display to a laptop that only has one external display port. I don't think there are any ExpressCard 34 DVI video cards that could be used to add another display so I would say that you are limited to one external display (I could be wrong on this but if such a device exists, I an not aware of it). If it were possible to connect more than one external, you should be able to rotate the display just like any other.

  • I cannot get both monitors to work when connecting my MacBook Pro to a VGA monitor using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter

Need help with 2 monitor set up on MacBook Pro.

I am sorry for the confusion.  The reason I asked about the speaker bar is that I can't find any information that shows built-in speakers on your monitor.  I have looked everywhere, including in the HP specifications.
Here is the Back I/O panel (Input / Output) for your computer:
    Figure 2: Back I/O panel
1 - Video Graphics Adapter port
    2 - USB 2.0: 4
    3 - RJ45 Network (LAN)
    4 - Audio: Line in
    5 - Audio: Front speaker/Line out
    6 - Audio: Microphone in
The way that I have always connected speakers is to the port labeled # 5 (Audio: Front speaker/Line Out).  This port allows sound to be sent to speakers.  The VGA port is for video only.  There is no audio capability.  The only connection that sends Audio and Video is the HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) connectors.
This is the type of connector that I would expect to see coming from your speakers:
The male one at the bottom of the picture.
Please check the monitor carefully to assure that there are actually speakers built-in.  I just don't want us to continue fighting a problem that doesn't exist.  There may have been some incorrect information in the advertisement that you read.
