my brand new macbook pro produces the console warning AY 7:36.
What shall I do?
Open your Applications folder; scroll down to Utilities, open that and then highlight "Console". You will see the icon. It is an application and you can simply double click (or right click) to open it. It contains all the logs the computer keeps on everything that is taking place - diagnostics, crash reporter, etc. So, you might have had an application crash or something like it - that would most likely activate the Console log. In any case, if it is still open, simply choose Quit in the Menu.

Broadly speaking I want some sort of network storage( wireless or through my existing wifi router) that I can access files for both my windows PC and Macbook and also to access files to my iPad/ iPhone. Some sort of backup and sychronisation so that I can access certain files remotely.
Buy a real NAS.. synology or QNAP are the standard... although companies like Netgear and Western Digital and Seagate make them as well.
There is no problem sharing between Mac and PC now.. you do not even need a NAS to do that.. you simply share the hard disk directly. Mac talk SMB.. everything talks SMB nowadays.. so it is easy.
ipad and iphone are not designed to use NAS.. they are designed to backup only to the cloud or itunes.. but you can load an app like file browser if you want.

Remote access to the Apple TC is somewhere between difficult, to impossible from a PC.. Apple use BTMM and iCloud but the service is not offered to PC.
A real NAS will offer HTTPS or SFTP or several other methods.. that both Mac and PC can use.
You simply plug it into the current wireless router.. it is a network device and assessable over the network. It is not necessary to buy another router.. in fact that is a waste. -

Macbook Pro Keyboard and trackpad not working - SOLUTION!
Recently my Macbook Pro of 3 years suddenly stopped working -- or at least the keyboard and track pad did. I plugged in an external USB mouse and and keyboard and was able to use it but it was of course cumbersome. Thinking it was a software issue like the one that used to happen to my old G4 desktop I reinstalled the OS but this did nothing but cause a lot of extra work. After doing a lot of hours of research I finally began reading that people were finding a solution by replacing their "topcase" (the topcase includes the keyboard and trackpad). This is a $300 fix and not knowing if it would even work I didn't want to try it and be wrong!
To make a short story longer I found a website (which I have no affiliation with) called www.powerbookmedic.com who sold the cable only so you could do your own fix for about $35. They provide basic video but not an exact step by step to replace the actual cable -- just how to get to it.
I will warn you that the components are tiny and I recommend buying the Mac tool kit and pry tool to help you through it. Even so I broke a small component but luckily it still works. In the end I now have a working Macbook Pro and some extra tools for the next time. I stripped a screw so had to spend another $15 and buying anti-static tape, although not necessary might be a good idea. Total cost to me was about $60 with tools and everything.
It is not very hard to do the replacement but it is tricky because the components are so fragile and I did not have a video to properly describe how to open up connectors -- hence why I broke one. But if you are patient, savy and need to save a few bucks it can be done.
PS- I have rebuilt desktop Mac's before but this was the first time I ever opened up a laptop. I used the video's provided at http://www.powerbookmedic.com/ as much as allowed.

MacBook Pro: No Audio from Internal Speakers - Solution
Issue: (MacBook Pro late 2010) Absolutely no audio to internal speakers after OSX has booted up.
Digital Out is the only available output device shown within System Settings
Analog headphones work
Digital Out works
Bootup "BONG" works (and is of course now perma loud after PRAM reset... uggh)
Things I have tried from least drastic to greatest in the following order:
sudo killall coreaudiod
Clear PRAM
Using Deploy Studio (first performing DiskUtility format as well):
re-image MacBook with a the same original OSX Lion image it has been working with for the past 3 months
re-image MacBook with previous Snow Leopard image (obviously used to work)
Not using Deploy Studio (but first performing DiskUtility format, using original supported installation media: DVD, Apple Store):
Installed Snow Leopard (no audio), then upgraded to Lion through Apple Store (still no audio)
Installed Snow Leopard using installation DVD provided with MacBook Pro (< waste of time as the above step didn't work either, but including here for completeness)Note: Even the "Welcome to Mac" intro movie is silent, audio controls are crossed out
Gentoo Live DVD _works_ (after enabling Front Speakers using alsamixer other wise it was also muted and no audio would work except through head phones)
Well holly $%#$%, %^#&^. After performing step 5, and enabling Front Speakers using alsamixer, I now have audio in OSX Lion
I believe this happened after I used the Mini Stereo jack for Head Phone use.
How in the ______ did this happen? And why did it take a third party software to _somehow_ enable audio to the internal speaker _after_ OSX Lion completely booted?????
Note to all: You can probably use a Ubuntu Live CD to perform step 5. Or any live cd that loads up Intel Audio drivers.

It was not consistent. My concern is the Macintosh operating system not detecting the change. My other concern is it can _not_ be only a hardware switching issue, as Alsamixer, a software program, can make the switch toggle between off or on. If it was a hardware-only issue, Alsamixer would be a fail. And, if it is actually a hardware-only issue triggering a software 1 or 0 switch somewhere:
My final concern is 'where is this setting being stored' as clearning PRAM and reinstalling entire operating system after opertating system (Leopard to Lion and back to Leopard) after a disk wipe has no effect.
I guess it sounds to me, that OSX tries to be too user-friendly by not allowing peeps to change those options themselves. Is there a dscl command switch I can use to manually override such an effect? (Just in case I don't happen to have anything to stick into the mini-jack port)

MacBook Pro was running slowly so I shut it down, it took a long time to shut down and then when it shut down I tried restarting it and it just loads a white page with the apple simple and a loading bar for a few seconds and then shuts back off

My MacBook Pro is running extremely slowly, no solutions work

My Macbook Pro all of a sudden has started to operate very slowly. Start up takes 3-4mins and each action delays by up to 15 seconds. I have used CleanmyMac2, my memory is only 15% used, there is nothing that runs above 11% CPU, I have reset PRAM and SMC. No real change.
The only thing that I think I did differently before it started to be like this was download Vuze and Bittorrent, both of which I have now uninstalled but the problem persists. Please help!I'm sorry to tell you this but downloading torrents opens up a Pandora's box of potential malware intrusion, and CleanMyMac2 will simply make a mess of things.
It is certainly possible to diagnose the exact cause of the poor performance you describe, but I recommend nothing less than completely erasing that Mac and reconfiguring it from the ground up. If you created a backup prior to running Bittorrent, now is the time to use it. Otherwise, you will be facing a protracted amount of work with no guarantee of success.
Furthermore, depending on exactly what you used CleanMyMac to do, it will result in unrecoverable alterations to the Mac's operating system, its required programs, any additional software that you may have installed, your iPhoto Library and other files you may consider essential. Its uninstallation instructions are ineffective at removing it, a typical characteristic of a plethora of similar garbage utilities that convey no benefit on a Mac. I know of no way to recover from its effects on a Mac other than to erase it completely. -
Macbook Pro (Mid 2012 Version) refuses to power on

I have some problem here and I was hoping for some help!
Problem: Macbook Pro refuses to power on. ( no fan sound, no hard disk spinning sound)
Event leading up to problem: I was using the laptop when it suddenly it just blanked out( Power went off ). I pressed the power button and the computer started; however, after loading the operating system ( I managed to log in to the OS and was navigating my desktop), the computer blanked out again. Ever since then, the Macbook Pro refused to power on.
Solutions I have tried:
Plug in a new Magsafe Charger : I plugged in a new macbook pro charger which is working ( i verified that its working by plugging it into another macbook). The charging indicator refused to light up even when the working charger is plugged into the macbook pro.
Tried a SMC reset : I tried a SMC reset by pressing left control, left option, left shift and power button and releasing it all together. Nothing changed.
Final Note:
My macbook is out of warranty already so I am prepared to open up the laptop to disconnect and reconnect the battery, or do anything you guys might suggest;
that said, please do not advise me to bring this into a service centre. That will obviously be my final resort. We wouldn't be talking here if we could just bring it to the service centre right?

Internet Explorer on Macbook Pro
The company I work for uses a web based credit solution and it ONLY works with Internet Explorer. Being a field based rep that calls on clients I need some way to be able to pull up their loan applications from the road.
Is there ANY way to get internet explorer on my 2014 Macbook Pro? I know whatever the solution is, it will be less than desirable, however it is a necessity for work.

CliffInstall Windows on another partition with Bootcamp or use Parallels and you will have Internet explorer. It has not been available for Mac for many many years.

One further clarification. I am most concerned with connecting with BT in automobile. I can use WiFi to tether to my other devices. I cannot change the car very easily! My iPhone 3G had no connection issues.
I'm new. Same bluetooth problem. Will not pair with my 2010 VW GTI w NAV system, or my MacBook Pro 17" (just discovered the MacB prob.)
When I initially discovered the problem I went to an Apple Store. Genius was excellent but requested that I check with VW. VW people were very helpful. A mechanic had an iphone 4s. He came out to the car ... He could not pair my phone but he could pair his phone ... So, it's the iphone ... Back to the Apple Store ... the genius was really good. He replaced the iphone. Great ! So, back out to the car & it would not pair, still. So ... can't be the phone , right. Back to VW. The Audi manager had an iphone 4S. He paired his phone with my car. He could not pair my phone to my car. He tries my phone in a new 2011 GTI sitting on the lot ... my phone pairs with it just fine. So ... it's my car. So ... make an appointment to get the bluetooth module replaced. They replace the Bluetooth module. My iphone will not pair. They end up pairing 2 different iphone 4S to my car ... but not my iphone 4S. My iphone 4S will also not pair with another 2010 GTI they have in for service. Though the 2 iphone 4S
pair with the second GTI just fine. They even try pairing my iphone with a brand new 2012 GTI in the showroom ... yep ... it paired fine. So ... ????????????????
They are going to update my nav software next (tomorrow), Hopeful ??? not really ... Will be taking my computer to Apple Store next ... maybe if they can discover why it will not pair to my MacBook Pro it will lead to a solution for the GTI ??? I'll get back to you. -

Safari hangs up on my Macbook Pro
Safari continually hangs up on my Macbook Pro. Any probable causes or solutions. This does not happen on any of my other Mac products.
If Safari is just freezing and not crashing, then there isn't a crash report available.
Make sure your system software is up to date.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.
Try emptying the cache more often. Press Command + Optiion + E on your keyboard.
Troubleshoot plugins. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
Deselect: Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
Try Safari in another user account. Same thing happens there, that can be an indication that the startup disk needs repairing. If that is the case, launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab. Click: Verify Disk
If repairs are needed, for OS X v10.7 or v10.8, retart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can repair, restore, or reformat the drive. OS X: About OS X Recovery

How to hook up 3 monitors to macbook pro?
Hey people,
I have searched for hours trying to find the best solution for hooking up three external monitors to my macbook pro (mid 2010).
The only serious (not homemade) solution is the Matrox TripleHead2Go DP Edition, but this solution only gives me a max resolution of 4080x768 (3x 1360x768).
Unfortunately I dont believe that would be enough to satisfy me needs.
I dont think Im the first one struggling with this problem, any solution will be much appreciated!

Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15" Blacks Out Without Warning
Quick Summary of Problem: My MacBook Pro is currently shutting down without warning. It would be more accurate to say that the screen goes blank but the machine remains on as can be heard by the fan. Nothing resolves it without powering down and restarting. It has occurred when attached to a power source or via the battery.
My machine specs: Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15” with 500GB hard drive, 8GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics/nVidia GeForce GT 330M with 512MB, anti-glare 15” screen with max resolution 1680 x 1050). Running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with 2013-001 Security Patch installed.
I have AppleCare which commenced when I first bought the machine in July 2010.
System Profiler says my battery condition is ‘Normal’. Cycle count: 610.
Detailed Summary of Problem: Back in January, my MacBook Pro shut down several times without warning. Each time, I was creating selections on high resolution imagery in Adobe Photoshop CS5.
Not long after, I saw the ‘MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.7’ relased on Feb 12 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1633) and installed it via Software Update. By coincidence or not, my MBP behaved much better afterwards and the seemingly random blank screens requiring a restart disappeared.
But then I installed the ‘Security Update 2013-001 (Snow Leopard)’(http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1642) via Software Update and that’s the only thing I can really remember changing to my system. Since then, the black-outs have reappeared. As before, I was usually using Photoshop and working with high resolution imagery. However, one time the machine blacked-out, I was simply doing a two-finger scroll on the built-in trackpad whilst in Chrome (Version 25.0.1364.172).
The blackout has occurred twice now not being connected to power, and twice with it being connected to a wall socket. Needless to say, I lost work in Photoshop (even though I’ve begun to save more regularly) and now it feels like it’s a ticking time bomb and I don’t know when it’s going to go off.
One thing I’ve found rather odd is that in the crash log, the kernal version doesn’t seem right for Snow Leopard:

Fixes I’ve tried:
1) Resetting the NV-RAM has done nothing. (was suggested
2) I’ve tried reinstalling the ‘MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.7’ by downloading the manual installer from Apple, however it now says ‘Alert: This software is not supported on your system’ which in a way makes sense given I’d already applied the firmware update, but a more accurate message along the lines of ‘This firmware update has already been installed’ would be more reassuring.
3) If all else fails, I could resort to copying over a backup I created with Carbon Copy Cloner, which was done before I reinstalled the 2013-001 Security Update for Snow Leopard. But that’s a bit of a headache too, because my documents I’ve updated since the backup will be out of sync. Another reason this isn’t a great solution is that I can’t take advantage of the 2013-001 security update, nor future ones.
Any suggestions? There’s probably no good time for something like this to happen, but this is a particularly bad time – I’m currently beginning design and finished art freelancing and brushing up on some applications I haven’t used in years. Nor am I going to make an impression meeting with recruiters without my folio being presented from my MBP.
I’ve already booked a Genius appointment 2.5 days from now, but all help and ideas greatly appreciated!

However, the issue described by TS4088 is not a soldering problem. It is a Latent Defect -- a flaw built into certain batches of those chips from the day they were packaged and installed.
If your Mac fails the VST test used to detect this Latent Defect, re-flowing the solder is likely to have NO EFFECT on its performance -- the solution is the remove the defective chip and replace with a good one.
There certainly can be problems in these and other Macs where a re-flow would be beneficial. But I caution Readers not to generalize your solution to Macs that are known to fail VST. Re-flow alone will not solve the Latent Defect problem.
