Macbook pro constantly logs me out

Why does my MacBook pro retina Lion constantly log me out closing all my apps without warning? I have all powersave features turned off and I'm plugged into the wall. All I see the console monitor are these two problems.

where XXXXX is my old login name from my old macbook pro that I migrated to the new machine and for some reason the new machine has my middle initial in it
In a potentially unrelated matter I will also get much less frequent crashes where the laptop shuts completely off - and there are panics in the console log
Any help would be appreciated

When I am listening to the radio (streaming through itunes) my macbook pro will log me out, quitting all the applications I have running (often firefox, word processing, itunes, etc). Why?
It's very frustrating and I don't understand why it happens. It might happen other times, but I notice it the most when I'm streaming the radio through itunes, though I think it's also happened when I'm streaming music or shows from NPR, so I don't actually know if it's an itunes thing, or an internet thing? Or just my computer being stupid?  But how can I fix it?
    Thanks!

My best guess at this point is a problem wwith 10.5.8
It seems clear to me that sometimes, seemingly randomly, software will access the video card (flash player, quicktime, Safari's HTML5 video player, etc) and it will cause a freeze and then log out.
However - it could just be video card + processor under load.
This didnt happen before 10.5.8 and I'm thinking it's not the new 27" display causing the issue.
I'm going to attempt to find time to revert back to 10.5.0 and then combo update back up to 10.5.7 which may be difficult as our IT is remote and we don't have access to Snow Leopard discs.
I may just have to bring my own in.

  • Macbook Pro randomly logs me out (10.6.8)

    Hello,
I have recently been having a problem with my laptop: while I am using it, it randomly logs me out. This means it quits all applications, which is getting pretty irritating as I am working on a big project!
    Here are the specs:
    MacBook Pro 15" 2.2 GHz
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    6 GB memory
320 GB capacity HD (with 30 GB of that free)
4 years old (bought in January 2008)
Please note: the system preferences are *NOT* set to log me out after any period of inactivity — and anyway, it happens while I am working, typing, etc.
I thought it perhaps could be due to the RAM upgrade I did, but I did that about 6 months ago, and this problem just started happening over the last month or so. Now it is happening several times a day.
Any ideas what the problem could be??
    Thanks!!

There could be a bug in the software.
do you still have your original install disc that came with your Mac?
If you do power off the Mac put the disc in the slot power up the Mac push in the disc and hold down the "C" key as soon as you hear the chime. Keep holding the C key till the gear stops spinning.
This will reinstall the OS leaving all your data in place. You will then have to do a software update.
Some of your preferenes migh have to be reset. If the problem still persist, I would look at third party software.

  • Macbook pro keeps logging me out after using migration assistant

    Hello All,
I have a Macbook pro (bought it two years ago). It used to shut down automatically. Took it to Apple after backing up using time machine. They installed a fresh OS on it and took everything else out. I made a dummy account and no more shut downs happend so I migrated my old account over using MA. Now all my accounts are there but as soon as I log in, it logs me out !!! no error message.
    Help would be appreciated.

I want to save some files I have on there but can't because I cannot log in.
How were you able to run a disk repair? Did you do that from an install disc?
Can you boot into "single-user" mode? If so there are some commands you can run that will allow you to look into logs files, where you might find the reason for your problem.

  • Macbook Pro randomly logging me out

I've been having a recurring problem lately with my Macbook Pro
    15"
    Core i5 2.4Ghz
    8GB RAM
Intel HD/ NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M video processors (set to auto-switching)
I get 2-3 random logouts per day where I am in the middle of using my computer - everything stops and freezes and doesnt respond for about 10-20 seconds.
My screens then go blue and I am presented with the login screen.
Obviously, my applications are all closed and my work is unsaved.
It happens during random times although it usually seems to happen when I am putting the processor under load.
Once when I was opening a bunch of Quicktime movies (40-60MB each), another time opening a page on Vimeo, another time while working in Photoshop CS5
This all started happening 2 weeks ago when I got a new 27" Apple LED
I have the 27" directly plugged in as my primary display with the MBPs 15" display as my secondary.
All my peripherals are running through the Display's USB ports which is plugged into my MBP
Using the MagSafe attachment from the Display also
My gut feeling & fear is that it has something to do with the video card - as that is most likely under a much higher load than before when I was running my old crappy small Dell display.
    Things I've tried:
    - checked to see if 'auto log out' was on (it's not)
    - Repaired permissions (nothing of note)
    - reset the PRAM
    - Reset the SMU (I think . . . not sure what the method is on a MBP with embedded battery)
    - tried disabling 3rd party extension type things (better touch tool, dropbox, etc)
    - Updated to 10.5.8 via the Combo Updater
    - Attempted to see any helpful messages in the Console log and come up with nothing
I don't think any other software has been installed since. (possibly a Flash update)
Other random pieces of software that I am running:
    CS5 Production Suite
Cisco AnyConnect VPN (for remote server access, etc)
Sophos Anti-Virus (company mandated, not by choice)
    Better TouchTool
    Dropbox
    Twitter
My next attempt will be at un-installing the Flash browser plugin
(i've had bizarre behavior from their new Flash auto-updater plugin, previously)
Has anyone else had this issue?
My technical level is pretty high so don't be afraid to offer more complex suggestions.

  • My MacBook Pro randomly logs me out and in. HELP!

My MacBook Pro 3.1 (late'07) is randomly logging me off when it is under load. Like running Lightroom, Safari stuff like that.
It also happens, when the MBP is running for a couple of hours and I play a video in VLC or Safari and maximize it.
The display turns all of the sudden blue (the blue you see, when you start your Mac), logs me off and instantly on.
All Programs are closed, no work is secured.
    It's like his problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgCccEXLsrE
    But mine occurs more randomly
In another forum someone said that the WindowServer could be the problem. But I can't find any solution.
Reinstalling the system did not change anything
Another symptom was also a flickering display (both, the external and the build in) and a total freeze.
I don't think that it runs to hot because the MacBook is on a stand and it has also happened in winter.
The Logic board has been exchanged twice because of the Nvidea GPU failure.
    Please Help!

Yep! It's' a known problem I'm afraid, very common indeed with that card. Nothing that can be done AFAIK.

  • My macbook pro keeps logging me out whenever I try to software update. How do I get it to stop and is this something I need to worry about?

Recently my macbook started logging me out at random times and then I thought that maybe if I updated the software it won't do it anymore but whenever I go to click on the software update icon it logs me out. I'm worried that this might be something serious. Any ideas?

  • My MacBook Pro instantly logs me out after logging in

Every time I log on to my Mac Book Pro 10.6.8 the desktop loads and then instantly logs me out and returns to the log in screen. I am able to log on in safe mode, but can't figure out what's wrong.
I've reset the PRAM and SMC, repaired all permissions on the Disk Utility, booted it in single user mode to check the /sbin/fsck -fy and the /sbin/mount - uw / rm /var /audit/current commands, but nothing has changed.
The day before this happened my Mac suddenly started to only type in caps and load in safe mode, I figured it must be a stuck Shift key, so cleaned it, but when that didn't work I downloaded KeyRemap4MacBook. I then used this to disable the left and right Shift key. For a while after it appeared that only some of the keyboard reverted back to normal and the rest remained in Shift mode, but then the next day the keyboard completely returned to normal. That is when the log in issues began. The Shift keys also still appear to function, which I didn't expect after disabling them.
I am not techno savvy, so any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • My MacBook Pro constantly beach balls (freezes) when I start any activity (click open)?

My MacBook Pro constantly beach balls with every activity.
    4.5 years old.
    Version 10.6.8

    memory 4 gb 1067 MHz DDR3
Started about a week ago, unusable.
    Just out of its warranty.

I like to clean install the operating system at least once a year. It keeps the machine very 'snappy'. Before I clean install the operating system I make sure that all of my data is backed up.

  • Safari constantly logging me out of most websites...

For about the last week, Safari has been constantly logging me out of websites like Facebook, Twitter, Hotmail, etc. It is getting quite frustrating so I'm hoping someone has a fix for it. It will only stay logged in for half an hour max. Please let me know if you have any tips or fixes!

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Click the Edit button. Delete Facebook, Hotmail, and any other site name you are having problems accessing then click Done.
Relaunch Safari and try logging in to one of those sites. If you still have problems, go back to Safari/Preferences then select the Security tab. Click: Show Cookies. Delete the cookies for those sites. Relaunch Safari and try again.
If you still have problems, quit Safari. Launch Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left. Delete the Facebook, Hotmail, and the "Safari Forms Autofill" keychains. Quit Keychain Access. Relaunch Safari. Navigate to Facebook. Enter your username and password as usual then click Yes when prompted. Same for the other sites.

  • Why is Twitter for iPhone constantly logging me out?

    Hi!
I have an iPhone 3GS (on iOS 6.1.3) and the Twitter (latest version) app constantly logs me out. Beforehand, the app will experience a freeze then the next thing I know is that I'm in the login screen of the app. This is ******* me off since logging back in again discards my settings and drafts data. Any explanation/help about this?
    Thank you!

I first logged in thru iOS (Settings). Then I was logged out after a few weeks of use. Then I tried removing my account completely from iOS so that it will also disappear from the app. Then finally, I tried logging in thru the app. Still, I was experiencing random logouts.

  • Safari constantly logs me out of gmail, facebook, twitter, everything online. How do I stop this?

Since I got my iMac 3 years ago, I've had the issue of it constantly logging me out mid-email or post, of gmail, facebook, and everything else. Sometimes it lets me stay logged in for 30 minutes, others I will be logged out every 30 seconds, ten times in a row. I'm running OSX 10.6.8 and everything has been updated. I've tried updating, basic resetting of safari, and emptying the cache.

I'd try updating to Safari 5.1.5. (It contains some fixes for issues with running in 32-bit mode, for example, and that seems to be in the vicinity of what you're getting here with 5.1.4.)

  • MacBook Pro with Retina Running Out of Space

    Hi there.
I have a MacBook Pro with retina running OS X mavericks. Recently I have taken a look into "about this Mac" and found that I am running out of space (Picture Bellow). I found that most of my space is in Apps and I am trying to find where they are on my Mac HD. By going to the Macintosh HD the fallowing had this much space taken up "Applications (9.69GB), Library (4.74GB), System (5.7GB), User INFO (49 bytes), and Users (71.89GB) “. I found that Users (71.89GB)-> Pictures(58.91GB) is taking up most of the space but that accounts for Movies (46.91GB) and Photos (12.12GB) but not Apps. Where else should I look for the 90GB Apps or is it just the OS taking up this space?
    Thank you

If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You're in no danger of running out.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Macbook Pro automatically logged itself off in the middle of work!

I was working on bookkeeping and out of the blue, my Macbook Pro using 10.5.8 turned black, then the log-in screen appeared! Everything I was working on disappeared! My notes were gone (didn't save because I wasn't going to need them after this) and I was connected to the State of California Board of Equalization filling out an on online use tax form (if that matters).
Bizarre and kinda scary. Stuff like that happens in the PC world. I've been a Mac user for over 20 years and this is the first time this has ever happened.
Any ideas? No, no anti virus software but haven't had any problems either.
