my new macbook pro recently constantly prompts me that it needs to be restarted, especially when connected to iphone. anyone encountered the same thing? what's the likely cause? if it's a software issue, how to figure out which software is damaged? thanks!

To make your battery last longer,
Turn off bluetooth if you're not using it....
Turn off infrared remote receiver if you're not using an apple remote....
Turn automatic brightness off.
Keep your screen brightness down to 50%...
Turn off your keyboard lighting if you don't need it....
Open Activity Monitor - under All Processes - see what's using anything over 10% in the %CPU section.
Hightlight anything over 10% and click on quit process.
Check your login items and see what's loading at startup and delete those too if you don't need them.
Other than that, have fun with your Macbook.....

Mid 2010 Macbook Pro "Your Computer was restarted because of a problem"

Hi guys,
Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion my Mid 2010 Macbook Pro has been randomly restarting itself and showing a grey sceen with the text "Your computer was restarted because of a problem."
I've googled and read all sorts of things saying remove everything from Login Items, it still happens. Everything I've tried has done nothing. Just in case it helps, here is my latest kernel panic log from Console:

It looks as if you may have the dreaded 'bad GPU' that shipped with some versions of the 2010 model. See - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US.
Use the "Contact" Apple techs link and see if your model may be one affected. If it is, you'll qualify for a free logic board replacement from Apple.

I would suggest you upgrade your computer's OS minimally to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
     Snow Leopard General Requirements

You will need the original Tiger installation disks. Insert the install disk, open Disk Utility from the UTILITIES menu, erase the HDD and inatall the OSX. That will create your own Apple ID. The second option is to use a retail Leopard or Snow Leopard disk instead, but they do not come with all of the applications.

No. Macs cannot run a system that is older than the hardware. You can however pick up a copy of Snow Leopard Server and run it in a virtual machine using Parallels.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.

Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
