Macbook pro damage
I have a question that i could not find directly in the communties:
does apple care also insure for damages?
Like: if the macbook pro falls of the table? or slips out of my hand? or it falls?
Does apple care insure that also? or do i need a new insurance for that?
Not that my macbook did fall, but i want to insure it to make sure and don't want to have trouble in the future.
As Allan says, AppleCare does not cover that. Your homeowner's insurance should, if you're a home owner and have such insurance. However, you'll want to check your policy and make sure how such claims will be handled. Once, when I was younger and had a crappy policy, we had a leak under the kitchen sink that went undiscovered until it had done some damage. I filed a claim, got a few hundred bucks... and then my rate jacked up so much that I had paid them back in about 4 months. And I had to continue paying the higher rate after that. I ended up paying them many times more than I would have if I'd just swallowed the small cost of repairs.

hey guyz i wanted to ask whether playing excessive (1-2 hours daily) need for speed carbon on my macbook pro using the arrow keys to control the car damage the arrow keys of the MBP??
pls answer asap i am worried..I don't think that you have to worry about arrow keys because they won't damage with their use (unless you hit heavily these keys). Using games, there are other things to worry, as the temperature of the Mac, but fans will turn on automatically when your Mac needs

MacBook Pro damaged by clone?
I have just cloned my entire 2008 MacBook pro HD to my mid2010MacBook pro HD(snow leopard) by using carbon copy cloner. I am worried that I will have caused potential damage to this newer unit, as I've completely overwritten it with an earlier models architecture. I would greatly value any input!
ThanksFor starters... you can relax... you haven't "damaged" anything. Cloning an image between different hardware is generally not a good idea. Cloning an older version to a new system can potentially cause problems as it likely does not have the support (drivers, etc) necessary to support the newer hardware. This can result in anything from poor performance, stability issues, right up to not booting at all. Mind you, these are all software related issues, it does not mean that any physical damage has been done.
I would probably restore the 2010 machine using the restore media it came with and then perform any updates (including re-installing Lion if you had done that), then use Migration Assistant as Ralph Landry1 had suggested to migrate your programs/data over to your 2010 machine.
If your 2010 machine is running okay now, there is a good chance you'll be fine. I'm just a bit anal about these things and I like to eliminate as many potential causes for problems as possible. -
Repairing Screen on MacBook Pro (Damaged by cleanser)
Well, much to my dismay, my 4-year old nephew decided to spray Lysol on my laptop screen and now there are "patches" on the screen which likely need repair. The screen is very much operational, but as you could imagine, it is quite annoying to use.
Approximately how much will this cost to repair and/or replace via Apple or are there do it yourself options? Thanks.samappleto44 wrote:
are there other alternatives to repair it at a cheaper cost?
Unlikely. Normal stores are not going to stock that at all, so your best bet is going to be web sites who resell parts from Mac laptops that have been parted out. But the unibody MacBook Pros are pretty new, and the nonglare screens are not the standard configuration so they are going to be rare. You might not even get much of a price break. If you want to look around here are some of the places that have traditionally sold Mac parts. It might be worth contacting them to see if they know of better sources for replacement screens.

Apple MacBook Pro - Damaged screen
Is there any email address to ask for any support to Apple staff???
I sent the enclosed email to 3 different email addresses [email protected], but I got only automatic answers to them.

"Dear Sir,
On the last January we read about the new MacBook Pro and ordered one exemplar in order to test its performance.
We received the ordered laptop (Serial Number W860806KVJ3) on the 21st February 2006 with Windows Office 2004 Software.
Unfortunately after only few days I hit the screen of MacBook Pro with the iPod after its synchronization and a crack appeared on it.
So we brought the MacBook Pro for the repair of screen to the nearest Apple Center in Rome and after two weeks we received the proposal for repair.
The cost for replacement of screen is Euro 900 (+VAT)!!! Therefore we decided to abandon the laptop and do not buy Apple anymore.
We have only a professional use of laptops, then the fragility of parts like screen and the exaggerate cost of maintenance is a limit in making use of Apple computers.
We would be very glad in receiving your comments about our experience
Thanks in advance"

That must have been some wack to the screen! face the music bud you messed it up now pay for it. It's like buying a Mercedes and crashing it and blaming them because of repair costs.

Macbook pro damaged inner shell options
today I had an accident at work and my macpro was damaged. I have a 3 year apple care cover.
the laptop seems to be working but there is a nasty bump on the top left keyboard and I'm worried it's damaged inside.
what are the options available?
cheers guys
PBring the MBP to an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation. The damage that the MBP endured is not considered a manufacturing defect thus will not be covered by Apple Care. Any repair costs will be bourne by you.

How do I backup the files on to my Macbook Pro 2010 from a damaged external hard drive?
Awhile ago my macbook pro crashed and I had to make a bootable disk of Mountain lion no problem here but I accidentallly deleted all the files off of my hard drive from which i recovered using a PC computer and disk drill. After it had recovered all my files i later tried to put these files on to my macbook computer and disk utility views the drive as damaged and needs to be repaired but in order to do this i have to format it and change the partition and what not. When i try to copy/burn to a CD the finder stops the operation and says that "finder cannot complete the operation because file _catalog cannot be moved" and just recently when i plugged my drive into my computer the sharing permissions say read only. I know that my files are there because when i right click and press get info i see that 5 gb are used but the folder is only showing me 2gb what do i do to get my files onto my computer?
My external hard drive is a WD 1 TB my passport and the partition thats givving my this trouble is formatted to be MS DOS FAT32
I have parallels Windows 8
I am running Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro Mid 2010 modelUse Data Rescue on the Mac and out the recovered files to another external drive.
Just grab your users files, the rest you trash. That's all you can do.
Good Luck -

I am unable to open iPhoto on my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.3) after installing ilife 11 from a disc. The message I get is "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete. What can I do?! Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Reinstall it.This time delete the receipts first.
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
Important:
As you're on 10.9.3 you'll need to update iPhoto to v9.5 before opening it. Use Software update. -
Possible heat damage to my MacBook Pro
Hi,
I''m running into an unusual problem that I suspect is caused by heat damage.
This is a mid-2009 MacBook Pro, 3.06, 8 gigs RAM, 500 gig 7200 RPM hard drive.
The Mac has been trouble free for a couple of years, but in the last 4-5 months has been giving me problems. I'll touch it in the morning to wake it up and the white sleep light will go from pulsating to off completely, and I can hear a low whirl come from the computer, as though it were working properly. Despite that it won't start up, and I have to hold down the power key to force a shutdown. When I reboot it the computer is often unresponsive and slow, and I have to restart. Eventually it gets back up to speed.
Yesterday I noticed my cat sitting on the keyboard. I've noticed her do this a lot, because of the heat. I've never thought much about it until yesterday, when the computer apparently froze at 3:26 AM (unlike other overnight freezes this one froze the Finder on the screen.) When I attempted to restart, both my OS X and Boot Camp partitions were non-bootable (or even even visible in Disk Utility) and I had to restore from Time Machine.
I'm now beginning to realize that my cat probably sleeps on my computer every night, and is overheating it by blocking the airflow vents. I have walked into the room and shes been sitting on it with the fans whirring, but I just didnt put two and two together, My basic assumption is that the cat sits on it, overheats it, and then pushes it a bit warmer due to the fact that she's insulating it. (it doesn't help that she's a Russian Blue and her fur is very, very insulating.) I'm concerned that this latest, worse incident means that some permanent damage has occurred.
So...does this sound like heat damage to hardware? If its the hard drive I'm sure I can just replace it. If its processor-related, well, ugh.
Thanks in advance! While a cat sleeping on the machine can't do the machine any good, I don't see anything in what you describe that would tell me "heat damage". Note that overheating doesn't necessarily have any specific symptoms—for instace, it may cause some electronic component to fail much sooner than expected (all components fail sooner or later).
If the machine wasn't doing anything particularly strenuous at the time (eg, video rendering), then the heat would be less of an issue.
So far, it's not clear at all to me what the problem is. I'd go through the normal troubleshooting routine—verify disk, check for problematic 3rd party software, etc, including running the AHT, as OGELTHORPE suggested. I'd also take steps to prevent furry creatures from nesting on the MBP. (If you succeed, I'd be much obliged if you shared the secret.) -
Is there a way to remove, clean, and safely re-affix the keys on a macbook pro without causing damage.... or is it best to let the Pro's do it?
i would let the pros do it. ive dismantled my mbp before and its a pain with all the little parts. you basically have to remove everything from the bottom up (logic board, ram, all cables, cd drive) to get to the keyboard.
how much junk you got under those keys? the space between the metal and keys are small, unlike a pc laptop (though most pc laptops have easier keyboards to remove) . -
So my late 2012 MacBook Pro was sitting on my desk when the desk collapsed. The computer fell with it and I was quite scared at the moment, but thankfully I opened it up and it worked perfectly fine again.
I was later watching a YouTube video and pressed the back button. The screen then froze, and I could not force quit safari. Then this weird clicking noise started to happen. It was coming from the right of the trackpad. That's when I decided to force shutdown the computer with the power button.
I let it sit and then decided to turn it back on. The clicking noise then came back and there was just a blank screen on the boot up. Eventually a grey folder with a question mark started flashing on the screen. That was all it did so I decided to turn it off again.
I'm going to take it into the Apple store ASAP, but I'm curious if my hard drive is damaged and if I will need a new one, which would erase everything on my Mac. So I was wondering if there is anyway to back up the hard driver even if it doesn't boot up all the way, or turn on the computer all the way.
P.S. I have never backed up my hard drive so I wouldn't know what to do.You may have damaged the HDD which is located in that spot. I would take it in for service.

What to do with water damaged MacBook Pro?
I've had my MacBook Pro 13" since late last year and since then have spilt soda on it 2 times. The first time it didn't seem to be damaged at all by it but the second time the macbook turned off and I left it for a while before trying to turn it on again. It started up but I needed to use internet recovery to be able to get into it after. I've been using the mac and it works fine but the trackpad will not work, the backlit keyboard is faded in some keys and whenever I turn the macbook off and try turning it on again it flashes a file with a question mark and will only start up properly after a few times of trying. I have recently brought it to the apple store and they said that they won't fix it even if I have warranty because it is water damaged but I can pay $800 to get it fixed although it still may not work after fixing it. I was wondering if I could sell the macbook somewhere and just buy a new mac? but how much would a water damaged mac be worth? does anyone have any solutions?

Until you plan on keeping it completely away from all liquids, I'd suggest simply continuing to use it for as long as it lasts.
Once you commit to protecting a new one, consider yourself lucky that it works at all and make a complete backup of what's on your internal drive while you still can so you can transfer that to whatever the replacement is (using Setup Assistant). And for not much more than what you'd pay to get it fixed, you could get a refurbished MBP from Apple which would have a warranty.

As Klaus1 says, a dead Mac isn't worth anything. But if you did get it fixed with the understanding that it might not work at all or for very long, how would you feel if someone else sold that to you. -

Boot from your install disc so you can try and repair the startup disk.
