Macbook pro data transfer to macbook air ????????, macbook pro data transfer to macbook air ????????

How (without using Migration assistant) can I (using an ethernet connection from my Macbook pro on 10.6.8 to a Macbook air on 10.7.3 with a thunderbolt ethernet adaptor) make a connection between the 2 computers and selectively transfer files and applications (complete).
I turned on sharing on both computers, went to finder menu and selected connect to server under the go menu - at first they saw each other but no connection. Now they do not even see each other.
On the pro I can find its IP address, on the air cannot find anything about an IP address. On the pro there is in network option for ethernet, on the air, nothing about ethernet.
Surely there must be a simple way?
Any ideas welcomed - probably I'm missing one or two steps in the connection process

Did you try a different cable?
Your problem is to get a reliable network connection - perhaps the thunderbolt port is the problem. The USB / ethernet adapter may work better:

Perhaps there is no info about ethernet on the MBA because it does not have an ethernet port. Does it?

I have a new macbook air, and want to transfer all my data using time machine from my old macbook running leopard, is this possible and easy and will it transfer all my musc and photos?

The Setup Assistant can restore your data from a Time Machine backup. You'll be asked if you want to do this the first time you turn the computer on.

  • When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.

    Problem:
When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.
Any help that you can provide in helping my iPhone accurately sync with iPhoto and iTunes will be greatly appreciated.
    Symptoms:
    1)   Sync:  It’s not completing the sync.  Below, I’ve provided all of my settings from the iTunes Summary tab so that you might tell me if I’ve selected any incorrect options.  I prefer to sync the “old school” way – by connecting to the computer – as opposed to syncing over the cloud. Perhaps this is what’s causing the problem? Here is a list of the steps displayed in the iTunes window as the sync progresses:
waiting for sync to start (step 1 of 7)
backing up (step 2 of 7)
preparing to sync (step 3 of 7)
determining apps to sync (step 4 of 7)
preparing apps to sync (step 5 of 7)
importing photos (step 6 of 7)
waiting for changes to be applied (step 7 of 7)
syncing apps / copying 1 of 4 (App name) (step 7 of 7)
    canceling sync
    apple icon
    2)   Photos: I've selected only certain of my iPhoto albums to sync to my iPhone.  All of the albums are correct/complete in iPhoto.  All of the albums are listed on my iPhone, both before and after the sync, but the albums are empty (no actual photos) before and after the sync. Perhaps this is tied to the fact that the sync isn’t completing, but because “importing photos” is one of the steps that the incomplete sync displays, I don’t know.
    3)   Apps: When I launch iTunes and click on the Apps folder under the Library listing, then click on the Updates tab, iTunes searches for any Apps needing to be updated and provides a list.  If I click on Update All, the Apps are successfully updated in iTunes.  But, when I plug in my iPhone so that the updates will transfer to the apps on my iPhone, the updates don’t transfer to the apps on my iPhone and those apps still reflect that they need updating on the iPhone.
    Other Potential Pertinent Info:
The flash memory hard drive on my MacBook Air recently died (perhaps a month or two ago).  Apple had emailed me about a known issue and literally the next day, my MacBook Air crashed.  I installed a new flash memory drive and re-installed everything from a backup off of an external hard drive.  Everything seems to be working fine; it recreated accurately all of my software and data, including iPhoto and iTunes, the pictures and songs (respectively) for which are stored on that hard drive, as opposed to being on the flash memory in the MacBook Air itself.  However, I don’t recall if the start of the sync problem described herein started happening at the same time that I replaced the flash memory drive.  All I know is that the computer is working perfectly in all respects and that even as the sync is failing, it at least says that it’s doing the right things and looking in the right places (e.g., the list of albums on my iPhone matches the list of albums in iTunes, etc.).
    Settings/Status:
    MacBook Air
    OSX v. 10.9
    iPhoto ’11 v. 9.5 (902.7)
    iPhone iOS 7.0.4
    iTunes v. 11.1.3 (8)
    Summary Tab
    Backups (This Computer)
    Options
Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected
Sync only checked songs and videos
    Photos Tab
Sync Photos from iPhoto (429 Photos)
Selected albums, Events, and Faces, and automatically include (no Events)
    Albums – 9 are selected

You need to download iTunes on your computer. iOS 6 requires the latest version of iTunes which is 10.7.

  • Pre-ordered Macbook Air, how do I transfer my DV Camera videos the new Mac?

Okay, I just pre-ordered a new Macbook Air to complement my Mac Pro...
    There is one problem though...
I bought the Air so I can start editing the video I shot while on the go, so if there's no Firewire support to the Air, how do I transfer the videos that I recorded from the DV Tape to Macbook Air?
Do I actually have to buy a new tapeless camcorder?
(note: I was planning on buying a new HD tapeless camcorder, but at later time... But if Macbook Air cannot connect to any Mini DV camera, do I have to buy the new camera early?)

Hi there! Don't cancel that order just yet...
Firstly, as already stated, Firewire cameras won't work with the Air. So you'll be needing one of those shiny new tapeless cameras.
As for how much space HD video takes up, it depends on what format the camera shoots in.
iMovie '08 works great with the latest tapeless cameras that shoot on SD cards, in the AVCHD format. A great example is the Panasonic HDC-SD1, or the SD5 and SD9.
These cameras can fit up to 6 hours of footage onto a 16gb SD-HC card. So, as long as you have about 16gb of space left on your MacBook Air's hard drive, you'll be able to fit about 6 hours of footage. Of course, this will vary depending on what quality setting you shoot in.
Once you're done with your edit, do you need to keep that video on your MacBook Air's drive? Probably not- consider archiving it to a usb hard drive, or even a wireless network drive. Or just delete it once you've burned to dvd via a usb dvd-burner, or uploaded it to the internet. Viola- you've freed up enough room for your next project.
If you're going to be using your notebook for editing all the time, then definitely consider either the MacBook or the MacBook Pro. But for occasional editing, the Air will do just fine.
As always, it depends on your needs.

  • I have been unable to transfer my Adobe Creative Suite on to my new Macbook Air

  • Macbook Air or Pro for Psychology Student

    Hey everyone,
Like a lot of people, I'm having trouble deciding which Macbook to buy although I at least know that I'm finally going to buy one! I'm a college student, and here is a list of what I will/want to do with my Macbook:
    -Write papers
    -Make presentations
    -Watch Youtube
    -Social network (facebook, twitter, tumblr)
    -E-mail
-iTunes/Pandora (listen to music, watch movies)
-Be able to multitask (ex: have lecture slides open while taking notes elsewhere)
-MAYBE light games? I have no intentions to ever religiously video edit or game though it may happen ocassionally.
I've talked to A LOT of people, including the awesome people working in the Apple store and I've gotten mixed suggestions. For what I will need the Macbook for, I've been told by a couple of friends that the Air should be fine. I think I will get the i7 processor with 8gb of RAM. Some (including people at Apple) have told me that I should even be fine with the i5 and 4gb of RAM. My thought was that if I was told I wouldn't even need to upgrade the processor or memory that a Pro wouldn't make sense for me.
The portability and battery life on the Air is really convienent for me as the laptop will be travelling to and from school/work/home. I put this thread in the Macbook Air section because that's the computer I'm leaning toward, but maybe someone can provide an argument that would show me that the Pro really is better for my needs?
Also - you can buy AppleCare any time as long as it's before the end of the 1 year Warranty - correct?
    Thanks!

Yeah, that would be the only detriment I see as well, though I intend to buy the 256GB model and can simply get an external drive if I find it necessary. Thanks for your input!
Another question - (for anyone) - If I order online and select the student discount, how does that work? Do I pay the student rate and then show my student ID & license at the store when I pick it up?

Do you have your system backed up to Time Machine? If so, you can open your user Library and copy your Mail folder from Time Machine to your Desktop on your new machine; then copy THAT folder to your new machine's user Library.
To get to your user Library, open Finder and Go and press the Option key. Library will show up. Click on it to get into your user Library. Now go into Time Machine and you should see your user Library for Time Machine. Restore the Mail folder to your Desktop.

  • Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same macbook pro?

Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same MacBook Pro?
Specifically, I used the Migration Assistant to move music and photos from my old PC to my new MacBook.
Somehow, I missed the fact that it was creating a new user account when it was doing this.  So none of music and photos are in the user account I originally set-up.  Instead, all these files are now in a different account.
I'd like to consolidate all my files on the one user account and delete the other one.
Is this possible and, if so, how do I do it?
    Thank you.

you can crop files from one account to another using the Public Dropbox which every user account has.  Log into the user that has the files you want to move, then drag the folder you want to the new users' dropbox:
I suggest a small scale test on a few files first before moving gigabytes of files.

    you could try this:
    http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
there's something called "Airdroid" on the Play store (whatever that is)
or if your files are on an sd card, you may wish to use an sd card reader. Just plugging it in via USB might possibly work. There's also something called DoubleTwist (basically iTunes for Android, which will allow you to

hope one of these works for you

  • How can i transfer all my photos from iMac iPhoto Library to macbook pro to iPhoto or Adobe Lightroom 5

Just bought a 13.3" Macbook Pro Retina display Mid 2014 and would like to transfer all my Photos from my iMac to my Macbook Pro.
I have a thunderbolt cable ?????? Would it work if i connect them together and how ? If i can get some assistance and instructions on how to do it , Will be appreciated .
    Best regards
    Sam

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
    If you're moving to Lightroom:
You need to export the images from iPhoto to the Finder, then import them to your Lightroom Catalogue.

  • Which is better for music production: macbook air or pro?

Which is better for music production: macbook air or pro?

The MacBook Pro has higher specifications, depending
on the model, and then CTO additional upgrades.
The Air does not have a Retina display, but has lesser
specs, so that may make a difference. They still offer a
    low-end MB/Pro w/ optical drive, w/o Retina; specs vary;
it may work in your instance. You'd have 14 days to take
a new Apple computer back, so keep that in mind.
    Good luck!
