Macbook pro dead after 10.7.5 update

after this update, 2010 macbook pro will not boot.
hangs on grey boot screen with spinning wheel.
tried restart with option command p r    same result
what are my options?

That's a lot to go thru!
For the future, I would recommend buying DiskWarrior. It is the best at directory repairs. It rebuilds then actually replaces your old directory. I feel every Mac owner should have a copy.
Make sure you get the disk so you can boot up on it to run repairs. You can also install it on another drive and run it from there to repair this one. DW works faster that way. But sometimes a badly damaged system can be deemed unrepairable by the installed version, but if booted and repaired from the DW disk it may still be repairable. This has happened to me.
I use DW once a month to try and catch errors in my system from getting too far out of hand. DW has repaired every big and little issue I've had on all three of my Macs.

  • MacBook Pro crashes after 10.10.2 update

Hello! I have been shearing for help and "fighting" with my 15" Mid 2014 Retina MacBook Pro.
When I try to play (example. Goat Simulator, S-Tuner [<- on web] etc..) my mac crasher after getting freeze and getting weird colored triangles to screen. I can take pic of it if needed!! This can happen almost everywhere, but usually on "heavy" usage. Sometimes it happens when I try to log in. Few hours ago I did have to restart my laptop six times before I did manage to log in. These usually appears when the computer crashes.

And there is usually +-100 of those. Also I get huuuuge amount of these

  • Macbook Pro crashing after 10.5.5 update

I updated to 10.5.5 last week and since then my macbook pro has been crashing. I am not sure the two things are related, but it wasn't crashing before then.
I'm really not sure what is happening because all 4 times that it has happened so far I have been away from the computer. I come back and the computer is simply off.
I've checked the logs and there is no indication of what is going on. (and nothing similar in the logs previous to all 4 crashes)

I checked and repaired permissions. I had it check the harddrive. I'm not sure what else I should look for...
I would normally just take it to the genius bar but I am in France for 3 months and do not have access to one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't tried it yet. I'm wondering if my computer is overheating and that is causing the problem. I'm running code on my laptop. I know it gets very hot when I do that. I've been running the same code on my laptop for 2 years though. Anyway, I've been monitoring the temperatures and when I run the code the temperatures on the CPUs are running just under 100 C (around 96-98). I haven't been able to tell if this is too hot or not b/c many of the websites I have seen people don't seem to know the difference between celsius and fahrenheit.
If the computer was turning itself off because it is getting too hot, would that be in the logs?
Would it turn itself all the way off or just go to sleep? And wouldn't it do a proper shut down? (I know it isn't shutting down properly when this happens b/c the logs indicate improper shut down when I start it back up again.)

  • MacBook Pro Dead after failed Lion install

My MBP Core 2 Duo 1.53 GHz was running just fine on OS 10.6.8.
Then I decided to install Lion on the machine. I downloaded Lion on my other machine, a MacPro, and burned a bootable DVD from the "InstallESD.dmg" file found in the package contents.
The DVD booted the MBP just fine and proceeded through the lengthy install process. When it appeared to be about 80% through the install process, a window popped up that said "Install Failed" , that the installer had encountered an error, and to try the install again. The second attempt rendered the same result.
Having used Disk Utility to Repair Disk, there were no problems detected.
So I decided to reinstall the original OS (10.6) from the install disks that came with the machine. SAME ERROR!
So I decided to wipe the hard drive clean, zeroed out, ran Apple Hardware Test with no problems found, and again tried installing the original OS from the original install disk. SAME ERROR!
Seems to me that the failed Lion install did something to the machine that rendered it unable to install ANY OS.
So now my MBP which was running just fine on 10.6.8 before attempting to install Lion, is usefull only as a doorstop.
If anyone knows a way to get my original OS back on this machine I would be greatful!
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I'm now trying to get the dead MBP to boot to a FW drive onto which I have copied the Lion .dmg file, but the MBP just doesn't 'see' the FW drive, even if I hold down Option on restart. I suppose this is because there is no operating system on the machine. Is there the equivalent of holding "C" on startup, only instead of the optical drive, to boot to a FW drive?
If there is a "blessed" operating system installed on a external drive, holding option should be able to choose that drive to boot from.
C boot from the 10.6 disk, then install 10.6 onto a blank, HFS+ journaled external drive. (disk utility under the installer menu)
Then reboot and hold option, you should be able to boot from the external drive.
From that you should be able to work magic on the internal drive, even use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone OS X 10.6 onto the internal drive.
As you know, you have to select the bare metal of the internal hard drive in Disk Utility to reformat it and remove the GUID partition table and the 10.7 Recovery Partition. Perhaps you missed that step and selected just the OS X partition. "Macintosh HD" etc.
Also you need a internet connection to install 10.7, it's DRMed.

The App Store version sometimes gives problems. As you can't install 10.8.4 from the App Store, download and install the Combo edition > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1659?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US This edition will work and will update OS X to the most recent version, in that case, 10.8.4

my macbook pro crashes after a few minutes of playing a game or using photoshop? i just got it fixed motherboard. do i have to do an update?

There are no updates currently available beyond v10.8.4 for Mountain Lion.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes a longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
If that doesn't help, the startup disk may need repairing.
Turn the Mac off, wait about ten seconds then startup while holding down the Command + R keys. Let go of the keys when you see the spinning progress indicator.
From there you should be able to access the utilities in recovery mode to verify and repair the disk if necesssary, or reinstal OS.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

    Maverick and Your System message
I've updated my Macbook Pro and my iMac with Maverick, updating the various apps (Pages, Aperture, iPhoto, Numbers & iMovie, too) in the process.
On my Macbook, everything functions perfectly. On my iMac, I get the Your System has Run out of Application Memory message. But it's not Calendar, it's Mail that not only won't open, but when it does now, it takes the entire system out with it.
I open Safari, and it works. I open Firefox, and it works and Safari still works. I open Calendar and it works, Safari and Firefox continue to work. I open Reminders, and everything still works.
I open Aperture, and it opens Finder instead, showing the 3.5 update that was installed two days ago (and Aperture has functioned), but doesn't seem to update the app; after about 20 seconds the update disappears and I can now open Aperture and it shows I'm now opening the updated Aperture, which it didn't show before.
I click on Mail, and the cursor spins for ten minutes. The mail window finally opens, but the cursor spins and does not connect to upload new mail, and I finally Force Quit Mail. Since the Maverick update, even though Mail was not updated (and maybe because Mail was not updated), I have been able to receive emails twice, and then the program crashed.
Besides the Aperture app, Pages didn't fully update on the iMac, and I had to remove the old Pages icon from the dock after the new program loaded up from Applications.
    Any ideas?

Tried WEP with 1234567890, no luck.
Tried with NO SECURITY on this wi-fi network, connected right away.
-I did reset PRAM, no luck.
-I deleted from Keychain, no luck.
-I added as prefered network and removed, no luck.
-I added new network location, no luck.
-I removed the Wi-fi network adapter, rebooted, activated, no luck.
-In the mac console logs, all I see are "wlEvent: en1 en1 link DOWN" when I try to connect to my secured wireless network (home or my office or even at a neighbors).
    -Wireless diagnostics tell me nothing
-Console logs do not tell me anything
-Warranty is expired and no AppleCare
Seems like a bug to me, even though I have tried with a Netgear, Cisco/Linksys, D-Link router and even tried tethering to a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and iPhone 5, all same problem, says "Connection failed."
    APPLE FRIENDS HELP ME PLEASE!

For example, our wireless password is: 123456890!
Well a password that weak will get cracked in about 6 hours on just about any PC in the area.
Now: LKUY*&T&67NH(*JKÎM<PijriuÎÓyhm8t, that's a real good network password, even a huge botnet would have trouble cracking that. I know because my router was PING flooded by the Flashback botnet and survived.
After OS X is reinstalled over itself to fix it, you might have to do more as it could be a "in user account" issue with a corrupted preference file, bad users permissions or another cause that's not OS X

    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012)

    Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
    I've used 192.8 GB
Operating System: 10.10.1 (14B25) YOSEMITE UPDATE
I've been experiencing problems with my Macbook Pro shortly after the two year mark of when I've purchased it. There are a few things that are going on. I recently verified my Macintosh HD disk through disk utility and it stated in red that there was an incorrect number of file hard links & then error: This disk needs to be repaired and to restart and then press "R". However, everything before that seemed to have passed. I have everything backed up on an external hard drive and use the time machine frequently. Another thing that has been happening, usually when I'm opening one my adobe programs, is that my screen will go white for a minute along with unidentifiable pink glitchy shapes that don't move. My computer has not been running like it used to and is running slow, freezing, and periodically going white --- as I just mentioned before. I just know that something isn't it right. I've been having to restart my computer by manually pressing the power button more than I've ever had over the past two years. I always work on my computer on a hard surface in a cool area & my fans seem to behaving okay. I also recently installed the Yosemite update for the mac sometime during this past November too and noticed slower running speed, more freezing, and longer times to boot up afterwards. Please speak up if you're experiencing problems with your 2012 Macbook pro too and especially after downloading the Yosemite upgrade. I don't see how it's in any way acceptable that I should have to deal with issues pertaining to my graphics card. Sorry for this post being a little all over the place.

    Hello brousch,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I see that your Mac is spontaneously restarting whenever you see a certain animation on your screen.  This indicates your Mac is getting a kernel panic caused by that animation.  If you'd like to learn more about kernel panics, including how to troublshoot them, please take a look at the information in the link below.

I bought a used macbook pro from a friend. Software updates are available, but when I try to update, the computer asks for apple id and will only accept the former owner´s. How can I connect my macbook to my apple id?

The first thing you should do after acquiring a used computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the gray installation discs that came with it. If you don't have the discs, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, it should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
