MacBook Pro delivery

I ordered a MacBook Pro and an iTunes card and it said they would take 3-5 days because I customised. the macbook is 17inches with 2.3ghz, 8GB of ram and solid state memory and everything else the same, and the iTunes card is the Beatles £100 gift card (idk if this makes a difference)
It said 3-5 days dispatched time before I bought but now it says it will be delivered around 8th April...but my question is: Is there a way I can still go to an Apple store after it's dispatched after 3-5days and collect it myself, instead of waiting an extra 3 weeks to get it delivered ^^
Thanks =)

Hi Jpdunford,
Well, I will share my experience with you. Maybe it will be different since I ordered from France but I don't think it is possible mainly because your MacBook may be coming directly from China. At least that was the origin of mine and other 2 friends who customized it in the Online Apple Store. I had to wait 2 weeks for the delivery (very weird the path it takes though -> China, Korea, Kazakhstan, Poland, Germany and finally France).

  • MacBook Pro delivery time

I ordered a 15" MBP a few days ago (with 4GB RAM, 200 GB HD) and it was dispatched on the 25th of June (to Oxford, UK). I was wondering how long most people's delivery took as I'm eager to get my hands on my new MBP! The status says it'll arrive on, or before, the 5th of July. Is it usual that it arrives on the estimated delivery date?
    Thanks.
    Tom.

Awesome. I hope it arrives before the (or on, if they did Sunday delivery) 1st of July as I go off on holiday for a week on Sunday evening, until Friday evening.

  • MacBook Pro Delivery "In Transit to Customer - Shipment Delayed" - what does this mean?

    Hi everyone,
I ordered my 15" MBP on the 23rd (the only modification was an antiglare screen rather than the standard). The order status originally said delivery would be from the 4th-8th January but it later amended to the 2nd. Now when I look at the page it says "In Transit to Customer - Shipment Delayed" but still says the same estimated delivery date. I wondered whether anyone could shed any light into what this actually means?
    Thanks.

That's what I was hoping but I wondered whether anyone has had this message before? I'm hoping the estimated delivery date is still correct.

  • I have just taken delivery of my first MacBook Pro so I am new to all that goes on underneath the cover. One quick question though...I had pre-installed three programmes to cover Exel, Word and Powerpoint. Can anyone tell me where to find them?

I have just taken delivery of my very first MacBook Pro so I am new to all that goes on under the cover. Can anyone tell me how I open the pre-installed programmes which are compatible with Word, Excel and Powerpoint?
    Thanks

Your welcome, gald to be of help
Welcome to Apple Support Communites and to the Mac, after a little time you will be flying!
Make sure if you have not done so yet to run software update to make sure you MBP is up to date, you can do this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left on your menu bar, and clicking on Software update.
One other thing that will help you when posting here is to make syre your profile is up to date/correct. You have in your profile as of now your MBP model and year which is freat, but you have for your operating system, iOS(mobile devces) 7.02, which would be for and iPhone, iPad, iPod. Your MacBook Pro operates on OSX (which in your case should be 10.8.5, you can find this info under the Apple logo, About this Mac) having this info available to anyone reading a question post is very helpful for them offer advice/sugesstions that may apply to your particular OSX, as well as eliminating confusion.
Thank you for the green check, by marking your respones it helps other users to find solutions if they are having a similar issue, if you are looking for something, after typing yor question, check the right hand side bar under "More Like This" and sometimes you may find an answer there.
    Synergy is a great thing.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities  and enjoy your new Mac.
One more suggestion is to purchase AppleCare it will extend your warranty to 3 years and you will also have free phone
in-store/online for the entire period. I have done this with my families machines and found it to well woth the relativly small investment.

  • Anyone else having extra long delivery time for the late 2013 macbook pro 15" 2.6ghz 1tb model?

Anyone else having extra long delivery time for the late 2013 macbook pro 15" 2.6ghz 1tb model?
As of today feb 15 i have been waiting for 78 days. Finland doesn't have an official apple store (only authorized resellers) It was my mistake because i should have bought from apple.com. But i think 2.5 months is too long and i have no information about when i can get it..

    The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 256 GB SSD costs $2,000.
    The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,300.
With 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD it costs $2,500.
    The high-end 15” rMBP with a 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,600.
All cost $500 dollars more with a 1 TB SSD.
So the SSD size is not a differentiating factor unless you prefer 256 GB.
If you think you need 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD then you might as well spend the extra $100 for the high-end model.
The high-end model will make a difference on gaming and graphics-oriented applications.
They tend to run other applications at about the same speed.
Both models are rated with 8 hours of battery life.
Benchmarks on PhotoShop comparing memory sizes:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5659174?tstart=30
The speed was about 10% different between 8 GB and 16 GB models.
On other applications your mileage may vary.
    Application benchmarks:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2059215/15-inch-retina-macbook-pro-review-a-tale -of-two-laptops.html
The low-end and high-end performed the about the same on non-graphics oriented applications.
    Graphics oriented benchmarks:
On the Cinebench OpenGL benchmark the high-end was about twice as fast.
On the Unigine Heaven Benchmark benchmark they ran at about the same speed.
On the Unigine Valley Benchmark benchmark the high-end was about 1.5x as fast.

  • I have just taken delivery of a brand new 15" macbook pro, tried migration assistant from a time machine backup, music, photos, programs etc. They now take up 350gb of my hard drive but the files are nowhere to be found? can anyone help?

Set migration assistant to run whilst on a lunch break, given that it needed 2 hours or so, when i returned all programs and applications had moved across from my time machine backup of a now dead 15"macbook pro 2009 edition running snow leopard...When i look at my new system information it shows my new 500gb drive is full of music, movies and photos and has only 168gb free, not enough to run a new migration and i don't have any boot disks for Lion so really don't want to erase the hard drive. To compound the problem i'm in Vietnam where there isn't a genius bar just around the corner, or even an aasp within 700km - what should I do?

Is the HDD in the 2009 15" MBP dead?  (The original source of your data)  If not, you might want ot take it out and put it in an enclosure.
You might try spotlight on know files to see if that gives you any clues where your data is located.
You might down load from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper (free) and open it.  It should show you all of the files you have on your MBP and enable to locate them.
    Ciao.

  • Home media server for mac, that you can also get to remotely.  Any ideas?  I am out of space on my macbook pro hard drive and appletv.  Need some sort of media server for delivery to macs, ipods, ipads, etc.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I have been using my macbook pro as a home media server, hosting most content on the macbook with ipod touch, ipads, and appletv streaming/sharing content.  I have run out of space on both the macbook pro and the apple tv and am looking to moving the content to a home media server.  Any thoughts/suggestions?  I'd like something that I can access remotely too.  I have an old slingbox and also have a static IP address.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be most welcome!

Don't worry I've sorted it! I just had to turn off Reminders as well in iCloud. Calendar then worked fine, even when I turned Calendar and Reminders back on.

  • Just took delivery of my 2.8GHz MacBook Pro - first impressions...

Well, my very first impression was - WHO THE HECK OPENED MY BOX? It was shipped in its original packaging, which was put into a brown shipping box. As I was opening the brown box, it was very clear to me that someone opened it and re-taped it. The same was true for the Apple box. The original clear tape was cut opened and another clear strip was placed over it. I did not have anything custom configured/installed, so there is no reason any of the boxes should have been opened. My only other guess is that customs opened it?? Has anyone else experienced this?
The next thing I noticed was the battery cover. When closed and latched, it shifts up and down when shifted up and down. In other words, it's not seated solidly.... it's loose. Appears to be a flaw to me. Only wondering if it's just a flaw on my unit or if it's affecting others. Please chime in.
Last thing I feel like I should note is internet connectivity. I have a wireless router. Both my other desktop (PM MDD G4) and laptop (PB G4) are wifi. I configured my new MacBook Pro to connect to the wireless router and it all connected as seemless as could be, as expected. I also noted that the wireless reception was exceptional! My wireless router is in the living room and when in the back room of the house, my Powerbook G4 gets 2 bars and can be sporadic. This new MacBook Pro is great as it has all bars lit everywhere in the house and is always consistent! Improvement on wifi pickup! Fantastic.
That being said, I did run into the problem of losing connectivity even with the bars all lit. I checked the network config and for some very odd reason, my IP kept switching from 192.168.x.x to 169.x.x.x. After restarting both my cable modem and wireless router, it fixed itself. After 10 minutes though, it returned to the screwed up config! I reset both router and cable modem again and it was fine for another few minutes and then BACK TO the bogus config Weird! After wrestling with it for about an hour I determined that I should take it into the Apple Store and let them see what's going on... but it began working fine for the rest of the evening with no problem. I still think I'll take it in just to see if others have experienced it. Please, let me know if anyone here has experienced it.
Otherwise, my first evening with it was not too bad. I will report my good and bad (hopefully no bad) findings as they come!
    Thanks!

Thank you all for your responses. I have made arrangements with Apple to take it back and send me a new one. Gotta mention that Apple customer service was very polite, but wow, I was put on hold VERY frequently and for VERY, VERY long periods of time! I'm talking like 10 to 15 minutes at a time!! And one time I was put on hold and after about 10 minutes the call was dropped and when I called back, all of the arrangements that were supposedly made for me were NOT even documented by the person who was helping me and so there was no record of the fact that I even called at all, which in turn rendered all that time I was on with them and on hold, USELESS! I had to restate the entire issue and start from scratch!! And I was promptly put on hold after doing so... AGAIN! And again! And AGAIN!! ...sigh. Then finally I was told that I would receive an e-mail from Apple tonight, explaining the steps I must follow to get my replacement MacBook Pro. It is almost 6 hours later and I have not received the e-mail. This makes me think that tomorrow, I am going to have to call them AGAIN (GASP!!!) and try to figure out why the e-mail was not sent. Oh brother!! The next worse thing they could tell me is that I have to send the MacBook Pro back to them and they will not send out the new one to me until they receive it! I hope they don't do that! ...sigh. : (

  • Delivery: Buy Macbook pro on the  Apple Store with French OS & Keyboard

    Hi everyone,
I am about to switch from PC to MAC, and I would like to buy Macbook Pro 13" 2.4Ghz.
I am French and I am living in Ireland for 6 months, so I have to buy my Macbook on the Irish Apple website.
During the ordering procedure, I saw I can order a computer with a AZERTY Keyboard (French), but I'd like to know if it's possible to order the computer with a French Leopard OS, or will it be by default in English and after I can put it in French ?? Please answer if you know, this is the last step before I buy my Mac!
See you all and many thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your best bet would be to call Apple on the telephone and ask about this. We are just fellow users, and really can't tell you what Apple would do.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook Pro isn't connecting to the internet unless it's on the guest profile

I recently purchased a brand new Macbook Pro less than a week ago and I've never been able to connect it to the Internet on my log in. This is my first Mac and honestly I don't believe it was worth the price since I can not use the Internet on it. The only way I can use the Internet is if the computer is on the guest profile. If the computer is logged onto my account the Internet stops working on all the other devices in the household(2 laptops, 2 iPhones, and 2 iPads). I've tried everything possible to fix this problem and nothing helps. The closest apple store is over 100 miles away so it is out of the question to go into the store. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Your warranty includes 90 days of phone support. Call AppleCare. If you don't get satisfaction that way, return the unit for exchange or a full refund within 14 days of delivery.

Dá pra imaginar o quanto me sinto frustrado. E o pior, assim que a Apple concluiu o registro da ocorrência, despidiramdizendo: "A apple agradece sua ligação.". Parece piada!

    Hi,
    Translation:
Since that work with computer science, I use systems Linux and in algunscasos, Windows. It has little time, my old notebook gave problem equando I decided to buy a new, I decided to yield me it the enchantment of the tãofalada product quality Apple.
Thus I made it and with much taste, I bought a Macbook PRO. , Day 18/04, with today sufficient ansiosidade of that mine notebook arrived soon, I bound paraa Apple to know on details of the delivery and happily, quandoacabei disconnect the telephone, the bell daqui of house touched, was oentregador. I was receives it with sufficient enthusiasm, notebook haviachegado well fast, much before the foreseen period. Of beginning I thought, “this is one of the advantages in buying of a great manufacturer”.
I caught the box and I directed me it my room, to saborear mine novonotebook. When I took off the box of notebook of inside of the box depapelão, a surprise, was the box of a Macbook. Still with a little deesperança, I decided to open the box thinking, “goes that they had placed nacaixa wrong…”, but, unhappyly not, a Macbook was same. Of umentusiasmo that I would say until infantile, I passed to a sensation deextremo dissatisfaction. The merchandise that as much I waited, not chegoupara me.
As it said, work with computer science, specifically, study it. Since that my old notebook burnt and decided to buy a new, estoucom my stopped projects, my intention was to retake meuMacbook as soon as PRO arrived, but, now, I will have that to give one another skill.
Good, coming back the narration, as soon as I evidenced that he was really umMacbook, not it PRO, I bound for the Apple. They had said me that sabiamcomo had not happened, if the problem was in the transporter or namontagem, I said that probably he was in the assembly therefore, the papeiscolados ones in the box I was with my data, therefore, that realmentea age directed box me.
The attendance of the Apple registered an occurrence and said me that atransportadora it would enter in contact to search the product. They then, would direct for the Apple and after an analysis, would enviariariam for me, omeu of right, Macbook PRO.
Good, vocês they must imagine how much this will go to delay. Diasaté will be some capsizes to search, later, will be plus some days until arriving in the Apple, plus some days until the Apple to pro analyze and to dispachar my Macbook eentão, plus some days until it to arrive until me. Sabe my works dafaculdade? Then, I will have that to try to make them in a computer velhodo my father. Of pra to imagine how much I feel myself frustrate. E worse, as soon as the Apple concluded the register of the occurrence, despidiramdizendo: “Apple thanks its linking.”. It seems joke!

  • Macbook Pro issue - advice needed

    Hi!
I have mid 2010 15” i5 2.53 Macbook Pro that has quite famous Nvidia 330m problem, it works fine when it uses integrated graphics, however it randomly crashes after switching to Nvidia.
I am a graphic designer so I need to use adobe programs such as Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects etc, also I need reliable machine, it’s really annoying when I sometimes lose something I’ve been working for hours after computer crashes (I tend to save everything after each modification but sometimes I won’t be able to when it crashes randomly).
It worked alright before while using Snow Leopard, issue started after upgrading to Mountain Lion, then, even after downgrading to Snow Leopard, problem stayed. I tried to get apple to fix it free of charge under their policy for this problem last year however they said that macbook showed signs of liquid damage so they wouldn’t, they quoted me for about £670 for total repair - I didn’t agree on this.
I’ve been looking for some ways to fix it, I upgraded to Mavericks recently and after that macbook was crashing pretty much all the time after few seconds after start up when I was trying to do something on it, when I was using Snow Leopard it tend to crash only 1-4 times a day.
I’ve found the idea with the blanket forcing it to heat, I have removed battery, plugged AC adapter, positioned turned on mac upside down on the edge of my bed (open lid) covered it with blankets and left it for an hour. To my surprise, after it cooled down it was working much better even tho I was using mavericks, it didn’t crash at all for about 2 hours, then crashed once, then it kept going for even 6 hours without crashing which was really good considering previous situations. The problem is, it still crushes sometimes, and I can’t risk losing my work.
There are still some ways I haven’t try yet like:
Putting logic board into the oven for 7 mins
Trying to heat logic board (Nvidia chipset) with hair dryer
Also, there is a repair centre on ebay that fixes this exact issue, apparently permanently by fitting brand new updated GPU Chipset that has been purposely produced by Nvidia to replace the Faulty GPU Chipset - this will cost about £180 including return delivery, and they provide 6 months warranty - there was over 100 happy customers with this problem and it seems like they fixed it
I would prefer to spend as little money as possible, and I have no problem with the speed of my macbook pro, 4gb Ram (currently using 2GB as one stick got broken so it does work slowish, but I will buy another 2gb stick on Monday - or should I get 4gb making overall ram 6gb? will this make much difference?) also, I was thinking about updating HDD to either Crucial 256GB SSD or Seagate Momentus XT 500 and then use my currently installed HDD as external HDD as I have planned to buy external HDD anyway.
Of course, getting the machine professionally fixed and upgrading it would cost me less than spending loads of money (over £1000) for brand new 13” retina mac, I also like 15” screen, even tho 13” retina has higher resolution, build in DVD is beneficial as well.
What do you guys think? Any experience with similar problem? If so what was your solution? BTW, what was the highest amount of money you've ever spent to fix your macbook pro that was out of warranty?
    Sorry for quite long post
    Thanks!

Yes, they specifically fix Nvidia 330m problem, they state that the only true solution is to remove old chipset with their brand new chipset that has been apparently released by Nvidia as an update for this issue, this is exactly what they say:
    What faults can we fix?
We can fix graphic/display issues relating to the 15" / 17" Nvidia 330M models in 2010 Models. These are fixed using the appropriate professional equipment.
Brand New Chipset Repair - (only option we recommend for Macbook Pro Nvidia Models) With this procedure we re-fit a Brand New Nvidia GPU Chipset reballed in leaded solder.
**** Special Offer - £10 off making the Brand New Chipset Repair £169 + Post! ****
They also provide photos of certain logic board (including photo of serial number) with old chip, chip removed and new chip installed as a proff.
    Thanks!

  • My MacBook Pro Experiences

    Hey Guys,
Since theres a lotta negative and positive stuff flying around here about everyone's MacBook Pro issues, I thought I would post with some of my experiences.
Firstly, whenever I got to buy something, I always research it a LOT and since this is the first Mac laptop I have ever bought, I made sure I did a LOT more!
After a lot of reading, I decided that the upcoming 17inch at the time was not for me, (student after all so way out of my price range) and since the graphics memory wasnt a huge issue for me, I decided to look further into the 1.83GHz version of the MBP.
As I'm a music student and I run a lot of applications like Logic, Reason, Ableton Live etc, processor speed is a small issue, but is not paramount as 95% of the time the devices I use such as Audio Interfaces will handle most of the stuff the processor normaly would.
This then brought me to memory. Astounded by how much the Apple Store wanted to put an extra sim of Memory into the MBP (£140 for a 1Gig) I decided to look around. First port of call was Crucial (www.crucial.com/uk) and lo and behold, they had the same stick delivered for £114 - I could do with that £26 quid!
Reading further, I found that Apple are nice and release some documentation on adding your own RAM to the MBP. This is helpfull, and means that I could actualy do it myself to get a REAL increase in speed for the machine.
(1Gig of RAM and above is the real sweet spot for MacOSX Tiger it seems)
So that aside I decided to order the 1.83GHz beast. I had to wait a while for some money to transfer from my acount, but in the mean time I rang the Apple store to find out some information about ordering the unit.
The guy i spoke to was very helpful and emailed me with his details saying, as soon as I was ready to order I should email him back and he would phone me to complete the order. Very nice.
I had to wait a couple of extra days for the money to transfer to my acount - it was going from one bank to another, but in the mean time I was able to email this guy back and have him reply with lots of details about my order and the unit itself.
The day finally came to order the beast. My money had successfully transferred, and I was ready. I emailed the guy from Apple at 7am. At 7.40 he rang me and we started the order. (20minutes before the Apple store is supposed to open to customers)
The order was simple, and I was able to obtain my student discount meaning I had the init for £1214.95 delivered. I also bought a mighty mouse as I'd had one before and they were great. The guy also informed me about the student diascount I could receive on the Apple Care plan. This meant instead of £279 it would cost me a mere £50 for the same thing. Bargain, and well worth it.
The order was completed, and although the product did not arrive the next day as I'd expected I was informed by them that it would take slightly longer as they had some problems and had longer lead times at the moment. Ordering on a wednesday I wasnt holding out for getting it by the end of the week, but I actualy did!
I got a phone call from home whilst I was out at my University saying that my package had arrived, but no one was home (DOH!) so they left a note.
I furisly rang up the company, and found out if I could go and pick the unit up, to which they told me yes. I would be able to go and pick it up from Oxford. I was all but racing down the motorway on my way home, before I got another call from home, saying "The delivery guy came to the door and said 'i heard you were going to go all the way to oxford for this, so i thought i'd bring it to you on my way home'" how very nice!
So my unit arrived and i rushed home to "play"
The box was very swish, made it look lovely - typical apple design.
Got it out and first thing I noticed were a couple of cosmetic damages to the front of the unit, on the keyboard, and to the right hand side on the speaker grill. Ignoring this I continued to boot it up and have a play.
Setup was really simple, configured my network and user acount flawlessly, without the need to plug it on once.
the mightymouse that also arrived that day and plugging it in during the setup process it simply worked. Lovely.
In a couple of minutes everything was up and running, I was browsing the web, listening to music from my windows computers and typing an email to Apple about those **** cosmetic issues. :-P
I have to say, I havent had any real problems with the heat issues. If you sit the unit on bare skin, maybe then it would hurt... but it's not burning hot, its warm.
As for the noises, yea, it has made some, but to be honest, I can barely hear them most of the time unless it's deadly silent in the room, and when is it ever in my line of work as a musician :P If I want to get rid of the sound, I can simply open the Mirror widget and it goes, simple as that. I havent tried any of the hacks and workarounds that people have been offering around on here, because I havent found it a big issue yet.
Screen problems - I hold my hands up right now and say that the ONLY screen problems I have found with my MBP is when I have used Windows on the machine. the rest of the time (In MacOS) it is FLAWLESS.
I do have to say though, the resolution is lovely, being able to have so much desktop real estate is fantastic, and the DVI to VGA adapter is brilliant for when I want to show things off, or use a second monitor with the laptop.
BootCamp - Afraid that someone might throw something Windows only at me one day at uni I decided to have a go with BootCamp on my box. Worked fantastically well. No problems whatsoever. (However I must add I almost never boot Windows on the machine just cos Mac OS is so useable for me!)
My only one gripe is that the @ and the " keys are in the opposite positions from where I wouild like them to be. But who cares.
I would highly recommend one of these machines to anyone who is looking at getting one... I have stopped using my desktop for good now. It's just pointless.
    I'm sure you'll love it
Thats the end of my story.
Really I just wanted another excuse to use this baby :P

I just checked and I have a Week 14 model.
The scratches - apple told me about the process for sending it back... waiting, getting a new one etc... and i said what about compensating me, as otherwise the machine is fine. They agreed to give me a case for the machine and £50.
    Thank you very much Apple!
Heat - it gets warm, thats it. Not scalding. Warm. I can quite nicely put it on my bare legs and stomach if i'm lying down and its just "comfy" warm
Whine... i had a VERY slight hi pitch noise, but as i mentioned, it's NOTHING really... can barely hear it. No one else but i can actualy hear it (my young ears) and i can fix it by running and then closing the Mirror app if its really an issue.
As for anything else. It's perfection.

  • Upgraded 2012 MACBOOK PRO 2.6Ghz 8GB RAM 750 GB an alternate for RETINA MBP 15 or NOT?How good is its potential, reliability ?

I am a student and an aspiring filmmaker.I am also into digital cinematography (Canon 550D) and now will be venturing into editing. I am in DIRE NEED of help
I have a few problems regarding the purchase of Macbook pro.I live in Kolkata(India).I have been waiting for the past 1 and a half years to buy a Mac but after the release of Retina Macbook pro 15.I am left confused. Its near unupgradability and unreparibility rumors, delayed delivery, and 1st generation hardware issues especially the lack of Optical drive made me reconsider my decision of buying one.
I want to know whether I can go for the top model of Non Retina - 2.6Ghz 8GB RAM 750 GB 1 GB Nvidea as an alternate choice for Retina MBP pro or NOT ?
1.I wanted to buy the Retina Base model. Though it is very recently launched and there is a big risk buying it because they say it is unrepairable and unfixable as 'everything is glued into the motherboard' dialogue scares me. Something goes wrong after purchase and they send it back to US, is what the Apple officials said. Moreover they don’t keep one on a demo at Apple stores in kolkata. I have searched almost everywhere and have been to many resellers in my city but no use.
NOW,I am very sceptical about custom ordering a Macbook 15 non retina with High-Res 1680X1050p from US.I don’t know how much custom duty or expenses I have to pay and is it safe or not. Time is also a factor. Sadly, I have to buy one in Kolkata (my city) it seems.
    2. I am opting for Macbook Pro 15,2.6 Ghz,8GB RAM. Buying it for the sole purpose of editing(audio, video, photos).I need something which is fast along with a good screen size. My original decision was to buy the 17inch but after the launch of Retina and the upgraded 15 inch, I am only looking forward to the upgraded models. Many say 13 inch is fast, but it features a dual core with a maximum of 2.9Ghz clockspeed. I on the other hand want a quad core i7 with good upgradability options and a good screen size. The 13 inch may be a favorite for many, but I want nothing less than a 15 inch. One good option I get with non Retina 15 is its upgradability, while many say Retina MBP 15 can be made upgradable in future but that time is yet to come and by the time the whole web becomes ‘retina friendly’ and all applications supporting its 2880X1800 resolution, I may end up waiting only. Yes the picture quality remains unbeatable when compared to Retina Pro and it will always be. Though friends, I am a student, I want something which is fast, can run almost anything and future dependable. Retina Mac book Pro in India is 2799 USD - Base model. I cannot pay that amount just for the screen. As far as speed is concerned, I plan to get an OWC SSD and a 16 GB OWC RAM in the future resulting in greater speed when comparing the configuration with Retina 15.That problem is solved.
My problem here is this: The web is filled with reviews and videos of Retina Macbook Pro and the upgraded Macbook Pro 15 is just no where, if you even find a few videos, they only feature unboxing videos of Macbook pro 15 (i7-2.3Ghz-4GB-500GB-500MB Nvidea).Other videos compare the 2.3ghz model with Retina 15 pro. They are not elaborate like the 15 Retina Pro reviews.
    1. I want to know about the real performance, potential, pros, cons of Macbook Pro 15 (i7 2.6Ghz 8GB RAM 750 GB 1GB Nvidea graphics).
So my question to you is what is your opinion on the 15 inch non retina ? HOW FAST do you think is the new upgraded 15inch non retina i7-2.6Ghz-8GB-750GB model really is ?I have read on many mac forums and seen on a particular youtube video that 15inch 2.3Ghz model takes an alarming 40 seconds to start because of traditional hard drive ! A normal DELL Inspiron starts at 15 secs max with i3+4 GB RAM and this particularly confuses me about the whole quad core processing and stuff and speed when running applications like C6,FCP,Lightroom etc is to be determined in regard to the model I want to buy.
    2. Is it necessary to buy APPLE CARE WARRANTY when buying a laptop from Apple. What are the benefits and how is it different form the normal customer care ?
    3. Please enlighten me on some nice headphones from Sennheizer under 90 USD.I am considering Sennheiser HD 439.I am not a bass freak and I want something to use for listening to voice, loud clear. In short, a headphone for all purpose. I heard the HD 449 is not that good compared to HD 439.They say it is Jazz oriented. Another confusion  !
Finally, If you know anyone who knows about this configuration (15inch 2.6 8GB RAM 750GB) and its performance than please help me out my friends. Any small detail, input, you feel like please let me know. Please help me be sure and satisfied am buying my Macbook Pro very soon and I am awaiting your response.

Well, are you talking about a 750 Hard Drive or SSD?  If SSD (quite expensive) it will certainly be as fast.  One option is to get the smallest HD they have and with the Non Retina you can upgrade the HD to an SSD later or now but save a little money.  Check with iFixit or OWC for instructions.  HD's do take longer to start up and load, but once open, the processor and video work just the same as on the Retina model.  The SSD speed is nice, but really not critical.  So you have to wait a minute for your computer to boot up.  The other big question is you need to find out if the non-retina model will take 16GB of ram.  According to OWC's site, it will, 16GB for 150USD.  Once you get programs open and resident in ram, everything will fly.
