How to set up Time Machine which is giving me the error message that my sparse bundle is already in use
We don't see this error as much as we used to.. I mean we never had a day go by without 2 or 3 requests for fixing the "already in use"
With Mavericks it has much more severe problems which have probably masked the issue.. but it is nice to see Mavericks does fall back into the well worn path laid out by Lion and Mountain Lion.
Nowadays it is not just PC where there the first support question is..
Did you turn it off and on again??

Mail has gone crazy. Header's and messages are mixed up. New Mac Book Pro. Migrated files from Time machine running snow leopard. Reinstall or new computer needed?
Ok; I'm not sure what you're doing. 36 hours is rather long. Seems like a new migration. Not what I intended.
Here's what I intended: from the newly-migrated and apparently-corrupt environment, create a new user, not related to any existing user, nor any migration-created user, or any other user for that matter. That is, use > System Preferences > Users and Groups, authenticate yourself by clicking on the padlock, and then click the + and create a wholly new user. Then log in under that user and establish the mail access.
36 hours? I'm wondering if there's an error or an exceedingly slow network here? Or a really, really slow disk? Or a sick backup? (WiFi isn't the path I'd usually choose, either.)
Failing the attempted second migration, I'd try a different tactic. Does your existing (old) system work? If so, I'd bypass the backup and connect an external (scratch) USB disk drive to the (old) sstem and then boot and use Disk Utility booted from the installer DVD disk or boot and use Disk Utility from the recovery partition or booted from a recovery partition created on some other external storage (details here vary by the OS X version and what hardware you have), and perform a full-disk backup of your original internal disk to (scratch) external storage. (Make sure you get the source and target disks chosen correctly here; copying the wrong way — from the scratch disk to your existing disk — will clobber your data!) In esssence, this will clone your existing boot disk. Then dismount the (formerly-scratch) external disk, transfer it over to the new system, and use it as the source of the migration, by performing a fresh OS X installation on the new system.
Target Disk Mode is also sometimes an option for accessing the disk for a migration, but that requires the right cable, and requires systems that have the same external connection; newer MacBook Pro systems use Thunderbolt for this, and older systems tend to use FireWire. And I'm guessing you don't have compatible hardware.
The details here can and do vary by your OS X versions and your particular Mac systems — if you'll identify the specific models and hardware, somebody might be able to better tailor the above (fairly generic) sequence to your particular configuration. -
MacBook Pro disconnects from wifi and tells me that my password is incorrect
recently my MacBook Pro disconnects from wifi and when I try to reconnect it says invalid password. I know the password is correct and the network is the right one. I usually just spam the sender key and eventually it connects. but 10 minutes later it will disconnect again and the whole process starts again
Which password, the one for your router, or the one for your email account?

Why does Macbook Pro rename my Time Machine and other external hard drives?
Why does my Macbook Pro rename my Time Machine to "Time Machine I" and then back again periodically. Last night it was one name, this morning it is another. It also does it on other external hard drives - usually by adding a I after the name. It is frustrating for me because I store a large runtime folder on an external hard drive and end up losing a lot of time with my computer not being able to find files because of the renaming.
And even though it still looks like Time Machine under "Get info: - when I open a folder window or Disk Utility it has a new name, and there is no way to change it. I've seen other questions that mention Macs renaming themselves, so it seems like a similar issue. I did try deleting the preferences plist file, but that did not work.
Is this a glitch with this particular model or operating system?
Specs: Macbook Pro A1297 - 2009 model.
Snow Leopard 10.6.8
2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
8GB ram

It seems to depend on when the drives were connected. When you first turn Time Machine on, it only excludes the TM drive itself, and any drives not formatted HFS+.
If you connect a drive later on, that drive will be excluded automatically. -
trying to reconect my Microsoft Enterouge to my MacBook Pro 15th through Time Machine? Anybody know where to find it in Time Machine?
The problem was solved by using the airport utilities manager under the "base station" menu. I opened the "add wireless clients" and checked "first try". The printer connected and the problem was solved.

My Time Machine will no longer back up to my external drive for unknown reasons. It began after a series of power outages (my equipment is protected by a surge protector with battery backup), and was shut down correctly. Then it began by not recognizing my disk and my Time Machine password, although I am positive it was correct. I tried NUMEROUS times to get into it. It says the disk is damaged and needs to be erased and started over. How can I back up my files on my Mac so I can do that? I have no other disk to back up to. I found the files in a folder called "Backups.backupdb", and tried to copy them into a folder, but get the message "The volume has the wrong case sensitivity for a backup." The "lost+found" folder did copy for me. Will I just have to lose 4 years of backups?

I have the same issue. Usually hangs after 10K od sometimes after 18MB of backup file.
Config: iTunes 10.4., Win 7 64bit, iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.3
I tried all of these without success:
- deleted backups via iTunes / Preferences
- deleted backups from sync folder
- created a new admin user and tried to sync
- reinstalled iTunes
- ran all Windows updates, restarted, reinstalled iTunes
- ran iTunes / Diagnostics (says everything okay, only info which is strange: diag says I am not a admin user, which is not correct)
Nothing helped. Who can help. I hope someone from Apple can take care, as I seem not to be the only one. Actually iTunes is the worst part about iPhone. Hope with iOS 5 and Cloud sync to get rid of iTunes.
Any hints welcome,

Command + R keys are for Macbooks running Lion and Mountian Lion only. ( i could be wrong on this)
you have a couple of options:
Do a clean install of Snow Leopard via Install DVD.
Clone your old hard drive to your new hard drive via Carbon Copy Cloner

After having the logic board replaced due to bad NVidia chip, my Time Machine will no longer backup my computer to the current backup. Is there a way to reset something to get Time Machine to continue to use the same backup files as before for this laptop?
As far as TM is concerned you have a new computer, so it will make a new backup. If you don't have the space for both backups then erase your backup drive before backing up the computer.

my airport time capsule will no longer allow our iPhones or vizio smart tvs to connect to it, though my iPad air mac mini and mac air connect fine. Why is this? does a recent software update have anything to do with it?
What model is your TC? What is the firmware?
I recommend you do a factory reset and use short names.. not apple recommended names.
Short.. 2-20 characters .. less than 10 even better.
No spaces.
Pure alphanumeric.
Set fixed channels for 2.4ghz wireless.. test with 11, 6, 1 at least.
That often helps.. if not and is old, ie Gen1-4 go back to 7.6.1 firmware which is far more solid. -
I recently had to replace my 2009 Macbook Pro's hard drive. I had the apple store upgrade the OS to Mountain Lion while it was in being repaired. I want to restore all of my old data and files. If I perform a restore from Time Machine, with a date prior to having the hard drive replaced, will it revert back to the old OS?
No, it won't revert to the prior OS X but you you may have third party apps installed that were compatible with Lion that may not be compatible with Mountain Lion.

About ago my MB Pro was stolen. Fortunately, I had strong security settings and was diligent about backing up to Time Machine.
I am about to purchase a new iMac to replace the MB Pro, and will be doing a complete restore from time machine to recover my data. However, since my computer was stolen, life has gone on. I have purchased music from iTunes via my iPhone and also added many new contacts. Does anyone know what will happen the first time I try to sync my iPhone to my fully restored image on the new computer? Will iTunes recognize the iPhone as it was before and do a 2 way sync (new music and contacts sent back to iMac) or will it want to override all data on the iPhone and replace it with the existing contacts and music from the restore?

JohnAll of your iPhone data (the iPhone backup done by iTunes) is stored in your user folder's library as: USER/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup. I believe some iPhone data is also stored here: USER/Library/Application Support/SyncServices. For some reason, the folks at Apple thought that this was NOT information that needed to be backed up in Time Machine.
So unless you copied and pasted the backup folder into your external drive, your migration of info from the drive to the iMac will not carry any iPhone info to the new computer.
That being said, I'm not exactly sure what the iPhone will do when being plugged in. It will probably ask if you want the phone to be associated with the user account on that iMac, and upon selecting yes it MIGHT try to send your contacts, calendars, etc. to the new iMac. I am not sure about this--if I were you I'd ask a Mac Genius at an Apple Store or call AppleCare. But the Apple Store would be your best bet. The iPhone would not be able to send music, but that's not a big deal since you have it all in the backup anyways. -
Tried to post a question about restoring my i mac from time machine, but this new format makes no sense to me. I want to restore my i mac from time machine after I reinstall the OS from the original disk. Will a time machine restore only restore the applications and data or will it restore the current state of the OS. My machine will not let me open any photo applications (aperture, I photo, NX 2) I have to force quit them every time I try to get some work done.

Me compre un ipod classic de 160gb cada vez que trato de ponerle musica de mi disco duro externo solo copia hasta 1500 canciones y luego me congela el Itune y no lo puedo cerrar, me pide que restaure el ipod como de fabrica, lo hago y nada. I restored it about 8 times and I've put music and videos but I always delete everything. I crushed and Selection Menu to enter diagnostic sistemade or ipod and I put the manual test where I enter the IO and q tells me everything is fine. I have already given several Format directly from the Windows 7 and anything either, I always delete everything from passing over 1300 songs and I congeal whole team. No longer have to think of this company because Apple gives no solution has this issue.

Clean install and restore from Time Machine: Will i lose my applications ?
I want to do a Snow Leopard clean install instead of a an upgrade.
1) How do I do the clean install and restore it from Time machine during the install ?
2) If I do the clean install and restore from Leopard's time machine backup, will I retaing all my applications or I will only retain my personal files ?
- If I don't retain my applications, how will my photos in iPhoto be restored without iPhoto ?If you did a complete TM backup, then all your files, users, settings, and programs will be restored. You will have the opportunity to restore using TM at the end of the install. I would back at least my data up separately.
To erase and install (i.e., clean install), start up to your DVD and stop after selecting your language. Use the menus to start Disk Utility and erase your drive. Quit Disk Utility and proceed with your installation. At the end, you will be able to choose to reclaim your settings, files, and apps from TM.

Time Machine was working fine, until one day back up was failing due to being unable to delete the old backup. now it will no longer connect to the network drive although the external drive is accessible through the system.. any ideas?
Time Machine is completely unrlable on any networked drive unless that drive is connected to one of the new Airport Extremes. I'm not surprised that you're encountering problems with it if you're using a networked drive. Can you plug the drive into your MacBook Pro and see if it will backup? The backups may - probably are - corrupt.

Won't connect to WIFI after updating to ISO 07?
I just updated my software on my iphone 4 to ISO 0.7(whatever the new one is) and it won't connect to my wifi. It just keeps trying to connect but never does. When I connected it to my computer it asks if i "trust this computer" yes or no. I say
