Macbook Pro Retina 15" won't turn on. The charger light is orange. I tried all tips that Apple provides on the official site -  http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204267. Any ideas?

If you purchased it from Apple directly, they have a 14 exchange or refund policy.  Keep that in mind when you go to the store.

  • Macbook Pro late 2008 won't turn on

I had a well working Macbook Pro unibody late 2008 (15 inches) but wanted to upgrade it a bit so after changing the HD to 1TB (which worked with no issues) I ordered some RAM to get it to 8GB (from 4). I opened it, changed the RAM, cleaned up the Fans that were really full of dust, put everything back and surprise: The Power button does NOT respond. Battery is fully charged, MagSafe is green, everything seemd normal but it just won't turn on.
I tried to put the old RAM back in it => Same result.
I tried to reset the SMC following this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 (removed the battery and power, pressed the button for 5 seconds, plug it back) but it didn't work either..
I checked every cable I could see under the hood but I really didn't touch much of the machine besides the fansm that I didn't even unplug..
What could cause this?? How do you troubleshoot a machine that won't even power.
    Help please!
    thanks

    apassemard,
how did you clean the fans? The MacBook Pro’s internals are extremely sensitive to static electricity; if you did not take care to discharge any static electricity on your person before working with its internals, you might well have fried them through static electricity discharging into your MacBook Pro’s logic board.

  • My MacBook Pro died and won't turn on

My MacBook was playing music and suddenly started skipping the song. It then died - black screen and won't turn on. The little button on the bottom left side still allows the tiny circles of green to come on, but no sound, no nothing on the screen.

Which model MBP do you have?

  • Macbook Pro 3,1 won't turn on

I have an old 3,1 17" macbook pro that I pulled out of the closet. I don't have a battery for it and when I hook up the AC power adaptor the LED turns green but the machine won't boot. I'm wondering if you need to have a battery installed for it to start?

If it is going to run, it does not need the battery.  (It will run slower).

  • Macbook Pro died and won't turn back on

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro 13' (it's about 1.5 years old). I was on it a couple of hours ago when I got the running on reserve battery indicator. Before I could plug the charger in, it died. I have had the charger in for over 2 hours now and it still won't turn on. The green light is on on the charger. When I unplug the charger the first battery strength light flashes on twice but that is it. When it is plugged in the battery strength lights do not go on at all. I have been searching for an answer for over an hour but can't seem to find one. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

It's a possibility, magsafes are known to do all sorts of strange things (I've had tons of replacements), but more than likely it's your battery. Does a friend or family member have another charger you could try? That's how you'll know if it's the battery or charger. If not I would say take it to an apple store to try it out!

  • 2010 MacBook pro overheated and won't turn on...

My summer 2010 MacBook pro now running osx 10.7.3 with latest MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.6 suddenly started to heat up and will now not turn on.  I did notice the display flickering in recent days.  Any ideas?

  • Macbook pro early 2011 won't turn on

My MacBook Pro was working fine until an evening, when it suddenly turned off. It was connected to power and had about 70% charge. The Magsafe indicator turned off along with the mac, but it turned green soon. It still stays green and won't change to amber. Without the magsafe connected, the battery indicators won't respond. If the magsafe is connected, 6 battery indicators lit up as usual. I tried resetting the SMC, but no success. I tried looking for burned areas in the logic board, but everything seems fine.
(Small red ants were frequent visitors of my lap, when it was left unattended for an hour. They usually came out from beneath the keys when I am back Just saying... )

One more thing, I had my 1TB external HDD connected to the mac via USB, when all these happend. (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=470)

  • Macbook pro switched off won't turn back on

My mid 2011 macbook pro switched off while I was charging my iphone 5 with it (was using belkin cable since NY apple cable started ripping open at the ends and now it won't work).
This happened 2 days ago. I browsed through some of the community members having the same problem but none of it works for me. If I recall the macbook has 60% chsrge . I tried connecting my charger to the laptop it only lights up with a light green color that's hardly noticeable. Moreover none of the keys work it seems. Please help

You will have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.

  • Updated MacBook Pro and system won't turn on

Tonight I applied an update to my wife's MacBook Pro and it applied 4 updates to the system, no different than usual.  It was plugged in and once applied it restarted then went to sleep.  I tried to wake the system and it didn't do anything.  I have checked the power supply on my MacBook and it works fine and vice versa with no green or amber light.  I press the battery indicator light and it blinks like the battery is dead.  I would think that perhaps the power connection or battery is toast except that it was working right before this with no issues whatsoever.  I am hoping someone might be able to give another suggestion before I have to drive 2 hours to the closest Apple Store.  Oh and I can't remove the battery because it has special screws so no resetting the SMC or whatever it is called.  The system is only about a year old.

    Hi rennekamp3,
If your machine currentlty won't boot past a grey Apple screen, you may find the following article helpful:

Note: If you get to the portion on starting from the Install Disks or performing an Archive/Erase & Install, you'll notice this article has not yet been updated for the more recent operating systems. In that case, you may want to refer to the following article:

  • 17" MacBook Pro (Latest Version) won't turn on!

    Hey all,
I have a 17" UniBody MacBook Pro. As far as I'm aware it's the newest version. It has 8 GB of Ram and the Intel Core i7 in it.
When I attempt to turn the machine on- nothing at all happens. If I plug the MagSafe into it, I get no light or anything on the connector.
Also, the battery status indicator on the left side seems entirely dead too.
Hopefully this is a simple fix, but I have a pretty bad feeling about this. It is still under warranty, but I use this MacBook in production as a DJ, and I rely heavily on it for my Midi Controller when I do a gig. (I have a few coming up really soon).
This is a real blow for me, if anyone has any suggestions- I'd greatly appreciate it.
I'm going to call AppleCare in the AM. Figured I'd post on here to possibly ease my mind and let me get some sleep tonight if someone has a quick fix.
    Thanks!

Hate to double post.. but HUGE RELIEF.
I opened the case up, used a flash light to inspect the mobo and everything else. Saw no damage, so I removed and reseated the RAM and unplugged and plugged the battery back into the mainboard.
MacBook nows boots and works fine!
Hope this comes as help to someone else.

  • Macbook Pro A1226 screen won't turn on

I have a MacBook Pro A1226.  The computer has been working fine, however tonight when I turned it on it made the chime booted up, and I could hear my applications running (Skype and Trillian were both making sounds), Caps Lock light goes on and off, keyboard lit up, however the screen seems to be completely dead.  No backlight, and no activity.  I hooked in an external monitor, and this made no difference.
    Any ideas?

Well, went to the local apple store...the outcome wasn't good.  The 'genious' had a 6 hour wait...I couldn't stand around there that long waiting to just talk to someone for a few mins, so that was a no go.  The sales person looked at it and said that given the age, they don't carry parts for it anymore anyway I'm not sure if this is a complete lie or not since there wouldn't have been any point for them trying to talk to a 'genious' if that wasn't the case.
Took it to another store and they were basically saying the same thing that a new logic board would cost $1200...more than what a new one is worth.
I see numerous 'repaired' boards on ebay...does anyone have any expereince with these...how long can I expect it to work for etc.  I'd like to get another year or two out of this machine if I can.
I'm hesitant on buying a new Mac at this point.  They are literally 3 times the price of a comparibly powered PC (with the same parts in it) and the new ones are far too thin for my liking and no dvd drive (which I do use)....if this one has issues, I'd imagine a new one is going to have simular issues down the road...they're just too damned thin for it to have any reasonable level of cooling in it.
I guess I'm out of luck.
Anyone know what the computer would be worth for parts...
