Macbook pro display won't go to screensaver or sleep

I am running OS X Lion 10.7.1 and I have my display set to go to sleep after 1 minute and my screen saver set to 3 minutes.  While streaming to Apple TV, the display would just go to screen saver and when I wasn't using it, it would just go to sleep.  Now, nothing.  The screen just stays on and I

I've had the same problem after a software update since early March this year. Wondered it might be the update of Safari 4.0.5 or ProKit 5.1. Although I took them to the apple store in london last week, they deleted sleepimage in Terminal and then it turned out nothing changed. However, they just haven't got any clue at all. Then, the other day I tried adding a new user account and removing battery then pressed power button for 5 secs, either way did not work. Indeed we should get their attention. btw, i'm using a mid2008 15" macbook pro on 10.5.8.

  • HELP! Macbook Pro Display won't work!

I have a 15-inch Macbook Pro from Late 2007; it worked fine yesterday, but as of this morning the display will not work! It makes the Chime when you power it up, but no screen display; I know it's on because you can adjust the volume buttons and hear the volume beeps. The screen brightener and dimmer does nothing, as well as the keys brightener and dimmer. The apple help text said to first try restarting it, did it no change-> then unplug it and disconnect battery for 1 minute, did it no change-> reset the PRAM which I did no change, and then if that didn't work to reset the SMC which I did and got no change in my problem.
And now the part that boggles my mind is I have the cables to hook up the MBP to my TV so i figured I'd atleast be able see it on the TV if the display has crapped out on the MBP but its doesn't transmit the image to there either. So anyone got any ideas? Is it possible I caught a virus that kills displaying ability? Please help!

    I'm having the same issue
it started with distorted horizontal lines across my screen, then yesterday black just like yours. I reset the pram and the power. not working, doesnt work with external monitor either. that article seems to be the answer from CMCSK's link
i'll let you know soon how it works out for me

Can anyone tell me how to reset or reboot my laptop? I wanna try to see if that will take care of the issue before i drive an hour to the Apple store and have to pay xxx amount of $$$s for thm to tell me i need a new laptop. Please HELP!!!

try a reset first. Shut down, unplug for at least 15 seconds then plug and wait 5 seconds and restart.

  • MacBook Pro display won't turn on. Screen is black meanwhile the computer is on.

Screen is completely black. When I try hooking it up to an external monitor, no signal is detected on the other monitor either. So now I have no way to see my screen.

Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
             com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0x82ac4000->0x82b7afff
                dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x7a802000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
             com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.4.0)@0x83c05000->0x84019fff
                dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
             com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000->0x8378dfff

                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
    Good luck,

  • My MacBook Pro display won't work without a second display plugged in. What caused this, and how do I fix it?

I'm using a Dynex Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adaptor to use a second display (an older display, I'll admit). After I have unplugged the adaptor, my MacBook still tries to read the second display, and switches back-and-forth between a blue screen & my desktop. It stabilizes once I plug the adaptor back in. What is causing this problem, and how do I fix it so I can use my primary display without having the adaptor constantly plugged in?

    Reset PRAM.

    If not try Reset SMC.

  • Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists

Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists follow link: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111. Have installed Bridge 5.0.2.4; Raw Ref Version 7.0.0.308; DNG converter_8_7_1.dmg; Bridge 5.0.2 Update 2. Also same problem with Lightroom which I don't normally use. Lightroom_3_LS11_mac_3_6.dmg installed.

In the link you posted it states that the Nikon 810 requires ACR 8.6 or newer.
Version of ACR are specific to versions of Photoshop. You cannot use 8.6 nor even 7.0.in CS5.
I believe that ACR 6.7 is the latest that will work with CS5, so make sure you have this installed and get rid of ACR 7.
Having 2 versions of ACR will cause problems.
You have already downloaded DNG Converter 8.7.1.
Have you double clicked the DMG file to allow you to install DNG Converter on your computer?
Be aware that DNG converter is a stand-along application and not a plug-in.
You need to open DNG converter at select the FOLDER that contain your .NEF files.
Don't open the folder and try to select individual files, it doesn't work that way.
After converting your D810 files to DNGs you can then open the DNGs in CS5
The problem is your camera didn't exist when CS5 & its version of ACR was developed.
i don't use Lightroom, but the list mentions Lightroom 5.6 as needed to open D819 so your 3.6 version of LR won't cut it.

  • My macbook pro displays a folder with a question mark on it when it turns on. What does this mean and how do I fix it?

My macbook pro displays a folder with a question mark and won't open. What does this mean and how can I fix it?

it means your HD and the software can't find each other, the following article tells how to troubleshoot this issue:
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440
hopefully you have backup of your data since sometimes this means the HD is crashing.
if the article doesn't resolve the issue i would take the mac to apple store or service provider and have it looked at, the following link tells how to find one close to you:

  • My new Macbook Pro 13" won't register properly on our school's projectors when I try to run PPT!, My new Macbook Pro 13" won't register properly on our school's projectors when I try to run PPT!

My new Macbook Pro 13" won't register properly on our school's projectors when I try to run PPT (Epson EB510)!  Instead, colored bars go across the screen against a black background.  No matter how much I try to adjust the displays, PPT won't show on it.  However, my friend's Macbook Air works fine. She's 10.7.2, I'm 10.7.4, so we're both more or less OS X Lion.  What could be wrong?  Can I do anything to fix it?

Make sure that your display is not mirrored. Mirroring forces you into "lowest common denominator" screen resolutions that can safely be displayed on BOTH screens, which may not be good enough for the projector.
When you turn off Mirroring, you get Extended Desktop, where the two screens are joined along an edge to form a larger Extended Desktop. To use this, drag a window onto the "other" screen.

  • Resolution of MacBook Pro display - always this fuzzy??

I should have done my homework, but...
I'm very sensitive to the fuzziness of the MacBook Pro display (especially the nearly grey and poorly defined letters on Word) and, to tell the truth, it's making my stomach turn and giving me a headache. I just received this computer through work, can't return it, and I'm stuck with it for three years now. what can I do or purchase to make the display CRYSTAL CLEAR (as in laser print quality)?
Will an external monitor help? Which one?
How can my iPod touch look so brilliant and this $2,500 laptop so archaic?
Thanks for any and all help,
    Ants

The reason your iPod Touch looks sharper is that it has a much higher pixel density than the MBP. Your iPod's screen is 163 ppi (pixels per inch) versus 110 ppi for the MBP. However, if it looks very fuzzy, I would agree with the other responder that your resolution isn't set to the screen's native resolution (1440 x 900) or that you are zoomed in (press control and scroll down on your mouse scroll wheel or two-fingered scroll on with the trackpad).

  • Using an LCD TV as the Macbook Pro display

    Hey
I am trying to use a Samsung LCD Tv as the display monitor for my 15 in. Macbook Pro display. I have a DVI cord going from my laptop to a DVI-RGB adapter which is plugged into the LCD Tv monitor, but nothing shows up on the tv and the display is still on the laptop. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Assuming your adapter is valid, you try "Detect Displays" in System Prefs/Displays. Some people adjust the OS to show a monitor icon in the menu bar, near the clock, and you can access this from there also. If the Mac still detects no external display, suspect the cabling.
I really question your DVI-RGB adapter, though. That would be highly unusual - are you sure it's not DVI-SVGA, or DVI-component? Do you have the brand and model? I have run my Samsung TV from my MBP just fine with a SVGA cable and DVI-SVGA adapter.

My MacBook Pro 13" won't turn on 90% of the time I try to get it running, and when it does turn on, even on a charger, it shuts down if I stop using it for 2+ seconds and it won't turn back on. Should I replace the battery?  It doesn't hold a charge either...

    EmadJamal,
the battery won’t melt because of long connection to the AC charger, although that has the potential of reducing the battery’s life.
Do you have access to a second 60 W AC charger to test with your MacBook Pro, or access to a second 13-inch MacBook Pro against which your AC charger could be tested?

  • How can I erase the data on my 2009 macbook pro that won't turn on because of a faulty motherboard? Do I just remove the hard drive, install it in a working mac, and erase it that way?

How can I erase the data on my 2009 macbook pro that won't turn on because of a faulty motherboard? Do I just remove the hard drive, install it in a working mac, and erase it that way? Thanks.

You put the internal drive in an enclosure. If you choose to keep the drive, you don't need to erase it.
