Macbook pro dvd drive

This morning I inserted a Cd into my dvd/cd drive in my macbook pro and it read the disc but when I ejected it a small screw came out too had to remove the screw before the disc would come out
Before ths happened the cd drive would make an unusual sound when ejecting
What do I do?

Take it in to Apple right away and tell them exactly what happened and give them the screw ...

  • My macbook pro dvd drive opens all disks as blank, can I fix it?

My macbook pro dvd drive opens all disks as blank. I have no access to a near by apple store as I live in remote NSW. I purchased the macbook when I lived in Sydney and the old owner had just had a fresh copy of the OS loaded. I've read a discussion of a similar nature and the only comment was take it back, that is easier said than done. Is there a fix I can do from home?

If you didn't buy this from the store, the first thing you need to do is boot from the install DVD, erase the disk drive (perhaps even zeroing it) and install a fresh copy of the OS. You do not want to inherit any changes the previous owner may have made to the system software (or worse).

I am talking about putting in any CD that is known to have content and it loads the CD and says its blank with nothing on it

My MacBook Pro disc drive keeps spinning and looking for a disc when there isn't one in there. The DVD application is closed and as far as I can tell, the eject button is not stuck. I've restarted, but the problem persists. Please help!

  • I can't get Macbook Pro DVD drive to read my Windows 7 upgrade disk.

I have a 15" Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.8.  I have been trying to upgrade the OS in my VMWare Virtual Machine from XP to Windows 7.  However, when I insert the upgrade disk, it just spins for a few minutes and then tells me the disk is a blank disk.  I  tried it with the drive tied to the VM XP OS, but that did not work and got the same result.  I then tried the disk in a PC I have and it seems to work fine there.  Also, I have tried other disks in my Mac drive (e.g. DVD movies) and they seem to work as well.  I am not quite sure where the problem is.  Any ideas?

  • Windows 7 RC installation on MacBook Pro: 'DVD drive device driver missing'

I'm trying to install the Windows 7 RC on my unibody MacBook Pro (purchased november 2008). I create the partition in Boot Camp, insert the install DVD, and restart the system. Then the Windows setup starts as it's supposed to (Windows is loading files). The install program launches fine, and I get to choose language settings.
And now it all fails. After I've chosen language settings, I get the message: "A required CD(DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now."
    Screenshot of the message: http://img25.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00102yyh.jpg
I'm kinda baffled by this message. Obviously the drive can be use by the install program, but it still complains of a missing driver. I had no trouble installing the Windows 7 beta earlier this year.
I've done some googling, and it appears to be problem experienced by some others. Someone had the issue on an Asus machine (I think), and the solution was to download the driver and out it on a USB stick. But I can't seem to find the driver for the MBP DVD drive anywhere.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

After countless days trying to solve this problem, I feel I can now add to the few solutions presented on the various forums of the internet. I'll post here because 1: i'm a mac user for everyday life although like most have as many pc's as well. 2: I already have a login for these forums!
okay so i tried everything from re-burns to usb install (which I could not complete because removable drives are not recognized by xp and I don't have a vista system). The problem for me ended up being because the DVD drive was plugged into the primary master ide channel. My hard drive for the unit i was installing windows on is sata and was configured as such (not bridged into IDE channel by bios). So in a nutshell it seems like the hard drive and the DVD drive are nit picky in regards to the IDE configuration of the drives themselves. This won't help for virtualization on a mac pro I realize but nonetheless is food for thought hopefully for all the people searching for " windows 7 install cd/dvd device driver missing " in their search engine!

  • MacBook Pro DVD drive issues

Hi there, recently I got a something strange problem with the DVD drive in my MacBook Pro 15" (2,2Ghz Intel core Duo, 10.5.8). Beginning with the error 0x80020042 first I tried cleaning the laser lens which worked for a few times, I also had errors like "... illegal access..", or the drive just could not read from disks, or the system does not recognize a blank disk was inserted. Using Toast to burn files to CDs it turns red indicating that there is not enough space on the disk even if the files are small, only a few kilobytes or megabytes large. Using the Mac OS I get the same message.
I'd appreciate your help and suggestions.
    Thanks.

maybe its hardware issue if you contact apple store or apple support they could help you

  • Vista has no drivers for MacBook Pro DVD drive

When I boot into Vista, everything works well enough but I can't use the DVD drive on my MacBook Pro. Under the device manager it's listed as not having drivers and when you tell it to find them on the internet, it comes up empty handed.
Anyone know where I can find drivers for this drive? It's a Matsushita UJ-857D.

I've been having the same problem. THere was a discussion with a link that no longer exists.

  • Using my MacBook Pro DVD drive to play movies on my HD TV

I just bought an HD tv and the Apple TV.  I have a MacBook Pro OS-X and was told that I could use its DVD drive to view DVD's on my HD  TV via the Apple TV.  I haven't found a way to do this.  Is it doable?  I have been able to view photos from iPhoto and play music from iTunes on the tv via the Apple tv.  I just don't see any options for the DVD drive.

In order to do that you need to use mirroring, which requires a recent Mac (2011 or later) running Mountain Lion. If using older hardware or OS you can use a 3rd party option like Airparrot. The native DVD player is blocked from mirroring so you would need to use something like VLC

  • MacBook Pro DVD Drive Bitsettings/Booktype

I have a MacBook Pro with a 'MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857D' DVD Drive and I am wanting to make changes to the Booktype when I burn a DVD. I have not been able to find a solution but below is a list of what I have tried:
    * Emulated Windows XP and tried making chages with IMGBURN.
    * Emulated IMGBURN under MacOSX using CrossOver Mac.
    * Tried looking for firmware updates.
Please help me solve this issue or put me out of my misery so if required I will go buy a new Pioneer 112D.

A fine lense cloth (for cleaning eye glasses) wrapped around a flat piece of credit card shaped plastic gently inserted and brushed once to the left side seemed to capture plenty of dust from my late 2008 MacBook Pro's Superdrive. Now DVDs work again and stay in the drive.

  • Macbook Pro DVD drive doesn't work, but here's the catch?

Well just a couple of moments ago, I wanted to play a DVD on my Macbook. Nothing unusual. But for some reason, I'll insert the DVD, some noise comes up, then... well nothing. Nothing happens. Nothing pops up; there is no indication that there is a DVD in the drive. Now you all may be thinking "Well the Superdrive doesn't work" WRONG. When I go into VMware Fusion +(Basically a virtual OS runner)+ and I check my Ubuntu *(DO NOT JUDGE ME, I HAD TO INSTALL UBUNTU FOR PERSONAL PURPOSES)* I can see the DVD inserted? And I can play it too, which is weird. Is this a software problem then?
    Thanks in advance.

You have Ubuntu installed? GET OUT
But no, seriously, that's actually useful for testing purposes and you wouldn't have figured out it wasn't really (we think so far at least) broken without it.
So my question is do you have any other DVD's you can try and see if they work? Can you check Disk Utility and see if it shows that you have a disc there? Got your installation DVD's? Try starting up from one. ****, you could even try a new user for more testing.

  • Macbook Pro-DVD drive problems HELP!!

I pressed eject to make sure nothing was in it and nothing came out. I then tried putting my dvd into the computer and it was kinda hard. It went in with force, but the it kicked it out. Whats wrong????

    Hi s,
These drives are made to pull the disc in once you've inserted the disc about 75% of the way in. Don't force it past this point. If it's difficult to insert a disc even part of the way, there's something physically wrong with the drive; maybe the loading mechanism has issues or maybe the case is bent enough to prevent the disc from sliding smoothly in. Whatever the case, I'd suggest bringing it in to an Apple Store or AASP to have them look at it.

  • I could not inset DVD into my Macbook pro CD-Driver. How could I insert it/

I could not inset DVD into my Macbook pro CD-Driver. How could I insert it/

try ejecting the drive incase there is something inside. if you are trying to say that the drive won't read DVDs that are inserted then you have a slightly larger problem. also if you do not hear a noise of some sort after seeing the eject symbol on the screen your optical drive may be broken or unresponsive in either case make an appointment with the apple store

  • My very expensive 2010 MacBook Pro hard drive died over a year ago (never bothered to fix it as the dvd drive had also failed so not worth it).   Nevertheless, I finally decided to sync my iPhone to the replacement laptop pc and it wiped out all the music

My very expensive 2010 MacBook Pro hard drive died over a year ago. I finally synced my iPhone to the replacement laptop pc and it wiped out all the music on the phone including most of the purchases. Can I get the music back (restore didn't help)?

Okay, I finally got the couple of songs left on the phone to play by uninstalling and reinstalling itunes on the pc and re syncing. The last version I installed (just prior to my original post) failed to start due to some unspecified error?!?. Great!. But I still couldn't sync the itunes purchases from the PC to the iPhone. Then, after about an hour of googling and reading assorted posts mostly about using google to resolve the issue, I finally figured out that I have to actually download ALL the purchased albums from iCloud back onto the iPhone! There are hundreds of them, and some are not even available anymore.
Why do I have to do that when I originally purchased and downloaded all the music to the phone? Why are they all on the PC to begin with and why won't they go to the phone via the USB cable? Why didn't all the music get wiped out on the phone when I synced with the dodgy itunes I had to uninstall. never mind.
I accept that all my original music from cds and shared collections is gone on the failed mbp hard drive, but how come this once okay experience has become a trauma? Hundreds of songs to download all over again, sheesh, this has not exactlybeen a "That Was Easy" experience guys.

  • My MacBook Pro Hard Drive recently gave me the gray folder with the question mark of death. Even as

My MacBook Pro Hard Drive recently gave me the gray folder with the question mark of death. Even as a Mac Newbie/Novice, I successfully installed a new hard drive and the OS (10.6.8) software from my installation discs. I have, however, lost the ability to play video using the spacebar and I have no idea on the steps necessary to correct this seemingly simple technical blip. .Here's my system overview:Model Name:     MacBook Pro Model Identifier:     MacBookPro6,2 Processor Name: Intel Core i5 Processor Speed:     2.4 GHz Number Of Processors:     1 Total Number Of Cores:     2 L2 Cache (per core):     256 KB L3 Cache:     3 MB Memory:     4 GB Processor Interconnect Speed:     4.8 GT/s.
I am using the Premiere Pro CS5 NLE (with the 5.0.4 updates), and I have tried to reinstall the software (which is actually the Production Premium package) several times, but I still cannot use the spacebar (or any method) to play any of my imported videos.
PLEASE HELP in any way you can!
Prior to having to replace my hard drive, my software was working just fine. No problems at all. But now, it seems that I can't get it to play whatever type of file I import.
Again, I am a newbie to the Mac, so any and all correctional/repair assistance needs to be expalined as if I were a child :  )
I would hate to try to revert to considering the sophmoric Final Cut Pro X editing software package, but I've got to do something to be able to get back to my editing activities.

@FatMac the internet recovery doesnt work. It goes into recovery mode and then when i try to reinstall it cant find a disk to install it to. So what would be a good choice to take now?
Recovery Mode presents you with, among other things, Disk Utility. When you open that, if the internal shows up at all, first try to "Repair DIsk." If that doesn't work but if the "Media" line is present, try to format and partition it with a GUID partition table (understand that you will be erasing the contents of your internal). Then try to reinstall the OS. If that doesn't work, and since your Retina MBP didn't come with a DVD drive or DVDs, you'll need to try a hardware test using these instructions from Apple (short version: shut down, press the power button and hold down the "D" key). If none of those things work, let's hope you either have AppleCare or your warranty has some life left because the SSD in your rMBP is proprietary and expensive. You'll need to bring it to an Apple Genius for evaluation.
