MacBook Pro Edge Dent
I'll allow scratches but never dents.
Recently, just about when school had finally ended, I put my MBP, along with a lot of books, on a desk. Unfortunately, I didn't know that the desk wouldn't be strong enough to carry all that I put on it. It fell forward dropping everything on it to the ground. As I picked up everything, I noticed something different about my Mac. A noticeable dent. Now, I wasn't too sad because of this since it has a lot of scratches on it (which I didn't really mind). But dents? I just can't live with them.
It also scrapes the edge of my Mac resulting in some aluminum dust which I have to clean everytime I open my MBP.
I want to replace the top cover but I'm afraid I'm gonna mess up doing that since I've heard it's a long and difficult process. My warranty for it also ended meaning Apple can't do anything about it. I thought about using tools but my dad told me that using tools may mess up my Mac even more. What should I do?
Here are some pictures:
I don't know that I would spend a huge amount of money fixing this. Once a machine has experienced this kind of trauma, anything can happen. I dropped a MacBook Pro and dented a corner, and just lived with it. The MBP continued working perfectly, but after about a month, it simply died. The logic board was damaged and needed replacing. Total repair costs would have been over $1,000. I opted to buy a new machine instead.

Hey, I am using a Late 2011 15" Macbook Pro.
The weird thing is, my cupboard is built in the walls so it has a hard surface at the end.
My sister kept my macbook inside and it accidently hit hard at end of the cupboard.
Luckily I don't have any damage to my hardware. The damage is only on the aluminium body. Does apple have repairs for such damage?
I know this is a physical damage and will not be covered it warranty. I am ready to pay for what it cost. I stay at Mumbai City India.
I did call the apple store near by the said they have third party section which repairs such problem. I really doubt on third party, ( a fear that some of my parts might get stolen and replaced with cheap ones )
What should I do ?
There is no official repairs from apple ?i feel your pain - had a new macbook years ago and my niece dropped here digital camera on it. nice sized dent on top of the screen - since it was too expensive to get it fixed - i ended up buying a nice skin/case for it so I don't see the dent anymore - it did perform fine and in the end - i gave it to my niece after i've used it for years and bought a new Macbook.
You can buy yourself a nice case or skin for your Macbook if you wish to do so, or spend the $100 to $150 to get it fixed. I would however, if i was in your shoes, I'd go for a nice skin from iSkin and cover up the dent instead.
it's always good to talk about it - espcially to a stranger - kinda helps calm you down - don't you agree?
I know it's an expensive investment - keep in mind however, it's still a piece of equipment that is replaceable - don't get too attached to it - it'll just get you frustrated.....
Good luck -
Macbook Pro fell, dented, and other injuries.
Hi guys.
Had an unfortunate event where my sling bag slipped off and fell to ground. My macbook pro is now slightly dented, and the magsafe power slot is now a bit tilted. It's running fine though but I am concern whether the impact from the fall would affect my macbook in any way.
Had scheduled for an appointment but that is only 2 days later. Any advice at this point would really be appreciated.
Thanks.Sure it affected the MBP. It got dented didn't it? And more then likely may have damaged something inside. This type of damage may not show for a period of time. It all depends on what may of been damaged.
Just keep using it as it is and if it fails then take it in to be fixed. -
HELP! I dropped my Macbook Pro Retina - Dents & scratches!
I accidentally dropped it from my bed.. It left a dent at the bottom right corner of my display (where the plastic and unibody meets). On top of that, there is a faint long scratches on the unibody. How much does it cost to fix this? Or what other methods can I do to fix this?
Cosmetic is so important to me.
Thank youBring the MBP to an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation. You will be advised what the repairs will cost. Understand it will not be covered by the warranty and the cost will be in the hundreds of dollars.

Problems with WD7500BPVT on mid 2009 macbook pro
My mid 2009 macbook pro got dented just enough to break the hard drive so I'm trying to replace it. I've got a Western Digital 750GB Blue Scorpio WD7500BPVT but I can't get Snow Leopard to install. The partition process goes fine but when I start the install it goes really slowly until hours later it says that the system cannot be installed. The same thing happens when I try to restore from Time Machine, though thankfully that process fails fter about 30 minutes. The disc seems to be working fine, I installed Linux on it in a Thinkpad with no problems as a test. I also pulled the hdd out of my girlfriends macbook, put it into my MBP and that booted and ran fine. I've seen some talk about rolling back efi to an older version, could that be my problem? Should I just give up on this hdd and find something else? Here is most of the installer log from one attempt to restore from time machine in case that helps. Thanks

Jan 10 08:44:51 localhI'm quite sure my MBP is alright aside from the hard drive as I've spent the better part of the last two days swapping drives around between the computers I have available and testing every scenario I can think of. The damaged hard drive doesn't work in any computer, my MBP, my girlfriends MB, or connected to a linux pc through a usb, so it's toast. My girlfriend's MB hard drive runs just fine in my MBP, I wiped and installed it in my MBP to test the dvd drive and I played some videos and ran some apps and everything works normally so I don't think anything else is damaged. The WD7500BPVT installs and runs fine in my girlfriends MB, the only problem arises when I try to put the WD7500BPVT into my MBP, bit to install OS X or after I've installed OS X onto it with my girlfriends computer. Thanks anyway.

Dented MacBook Pro case and lid
The top right corner of the lid and bottom right corner of the base of the late 2008 macbook pro are slightly dented. I've had my Macbook Pro for about 3 weeks now and just got round to opening it last week and after further inspection this past week I've noticed today the lid and base has a small dent in it. Looking at the corners i can see clearly they're not rounded the same and the base corner is grazed and lighter colour of aluminum.
I've kept my mbp in the box for 3 weeks even this past week when ive been using it, its never been out the house and i've been working on it at my desk away from me damaging it. So I have received the product like this.
I rang up AppleCare and they said to take it to a local repair centre, which is 30 miles away, ill be going there on Monday.
Has anyone found any dents on their macbook pros?
I have AppleCare that I paid for at the time of the laptop purchase.
What will Apple do? Will they replace it? Since its dented..and the new casing technology...it'll be pretty difficult and time consuming to just replace the case dont you think ?
What do you think they do, and what normally happens in this situation anybody know?
How long do you think the repair will take?
I don't expect to pay the amount of money I have done for this for it to come with these problems. First day i opened it i noticed greasy finger prints and marks on keyboard, i used the cloth included to get rid of these, but just noticing this dent, its really annoyed me. My came straight from the factory I think, I ordered it the day they were released, about an hour after I recall and waited a couple of weeks for it to be delivered. Now this...
Thanks for any responses in advance.

Message was edited by: Jamie BartonI have a tiny pinhole dent on my late '08 Mac on the top of the lid in between the apple logo and the edge (also purchased near rls date). I'm not sure if it was there when I purchased, but I don't think so. However, I'm suffering from cognitive dissonance as I treat this think like a baby. It really aggravates me... I've tried to pop it out (rather miserably) with a suction cup to no avail. What recourse do you think I'd have with Apple. I'd definitely like to get it fixed. These new aluminum body macs are far too prone to denting, because if I caused the dent, it wansn't from any overt action... I haven't even taken the thing outside since I've had it... sits on a computer desk at all times. HELP, I must have OCD because it bugs me to look at!
I also think these books heat up way too much as my cpu hovers at near 80F (~78) when under full load, according to iStat, but that's another story. -
So apparently my boyfriend dropped my MacBook Pro and it put a dent in it. He wasn't aware when it happened and I didn't go to use it until today, when I noticed it. The laptop was open when it happened, so the lid is fine. The dent looks sort of like it's wrinkled and it sticks up. It's on the left edge of the laptop, below the keyboard. The lid doesn't close all the way because of it. He is going to pay to have it replaced as long as it's what he can afford. But my question is how much will that cost and how long will it take? It's a separate piece from the bottom plate, and the laptop works just fine. I bought it in June, brand new, from Apple with the AppleCare protection plan, but obviously this is not covered since it is accidental damage. I've just been very aggravated and I'm very particular about the condition of my stuff. I'm not really willing to just "deal with it". Thanks.
When did you buy it? If you bought it in November 12, 2010 or later, it is still under warranty. Unfortunately, the warranty doesn't cover accidents. Usually the Apple Store is nice enough to replace it anyway. But to replace the aluminum unibody... anywhere from $200-500... not sure exactly.

So i took my Macbook Pro 13'' (Mid-2009) into Apple because the spacebar was jammed and I had one of the feet of the bottom casing missing which was unusual (black circles). The unibody and bottom plate had a fair few dents and nicks and under AppleCare I was able to get the whole unibody and bottom case fixed for free. Saved myself a good £181!
This now leaves my lid which has one or two noticeable dents and the bottom right part is suffering from several scratches. I was wondering how much a new lid would cost if I took it into Apple? I know it won't be covered under AppleCare as its accidental damage but want to know whether its worth paying for to have a once again dent free Macbook Pro .
As a side note, do Apple upgrade your hardware at all, such as the hard drive or memory? I know it would be cheaper to do it at an independant computer shop or by myself but would like to explore my options first.http://www.ifixit.com/

Dent on macbook pro, how to repair?
Hello, I have a dent on my macbook pro. It was shipped from the portuguese apple store online. I would like to know what I can do about since it came this way thru airmail.
Thank you very muchContact the store and the shipper. It should not come with a dent. How was the packaging? Any damage to the shipping carton? You need to determine responsibility. Realize also that "you dropped" it is a possible scenario.

Dented my Macbook Pro and now it won't start up. Please Help!
Hello. I have searched and searched and cannot find a solution.
Last night I was putting the finishing touches on my dissertation and accidentally dropped a tape dispenser on my 1-year-old MacBook Pro - it hit just to the left of the trackpad and left a nice little dent! After the "incident", I was attempting to pull up Word and the machine completely froze. I turned Mr. Mac off by holding down the power button and when I tried to restart, I never got past the Apple logo with the little spinning circle. After trying many times to restart, I made it to my desktop only twice, and after the dock appeared (with no menu bar above or desktop icons), the machine froze again. Each time, I heard the hard drive working until the big freeze.
I was able to boot off of the Leopard install disc and ran "repair disk" on my hard drive - no errors were found. Tried restarting again and got nothing. I have since tried restarting with various key combinations and the machine only responded to "C" and "Option".
This morning, I searched again and decided to try the "optioncommand+pr" to reset the PRAM as suggested to another damsel in distress with a similar issue. Now, when I try to restart, I get the gray screen followed by the chime, and then nothing - no hard drive working, no Apple logo, no spinning circle, nothing. My install CD will not spin and I none of the start-up key combinations work. It just sits there staring at me with that gray screen - laughing because my dissertation is in there somewhere and I can't get it out! Yes, I have backed my maching up on a 500G external hard drive, so I haven't lost much - but I can't access my hard drive without Mr. Mac! And I am a lonely Mac owner here - no others to borrow!
I am going to an Apple Store on Saturday, but I thought I would give you guys a chance to save my life first. Any suggestions for this girl and her Mac would be great! I am defending my dissertation next week and I'm about one small crisis from a major meltdown!!!!!!
Thanks!Well, my two-month-old MBP has no qualms about booting from a no-name external USB HD I put together...
Given that is is a common point of failure, I would imagine a large Apple Store should keep a stock of HD's on hand.
Now since you're a bit desperate and the genie pops up til Saturday and you seem to be the enterprising kind, let's try an experiment: if you have room enough in the external HD and assuming it isn't a Time Machine volume, why don't you plug it in, stick the Install CD and see if the installer lets you select the external drive as the install target. If you can install Leopard on it, on top of the backup without reformatting, and the Mac can boot from the drive afterwards, at least you would have some functionality restored and would be able to pull your stuff from the internal HD. Apple says booting from USB drives is not supported but that does not equate to not possible; some brands do work. Risks? Always. You can always lose your backup. Like I said, a challenge for an enterprising gal....
Next time around, consider having a bootable external clone at hand for rainy days. I keep three myself...
P.S. Since I'll be in the Dallas-FW area in late June, I can volunteer with the confetti.... -
TSA dented my MacBook Pro, what to do?
OK, I just got back from LaGuardia airport in NYC and I just now notice that TSA dented my laptop. When my laptop was going through the X-Ray I heard a thud as they were pulling out my Mac. I didn't see anything wrong with it, so I put it back in my bag and got on the plane. I need to know what do to now, my MacBook is still under warranty but I don't know if Apple will fix it. Only the bottom base is dented and nothing major is damaged. Will Apple cover it? If so, what should I do, and if not, what should I do? Thanks in advance.
To confirm what the others have said, Apple will not cover the damage to your system under warranty. I don't know if you have any recourse with TSA, particularly since you couldn't report the problem right away. You can try their claims office, though:
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/customer/claims/index.shtm
You'll find instructions and the appropriate forms there.
If they won't reimburse you for the damage, you'll have to look to homeowner's insurance or possible credit-card coverage. Or just live with the dent if the system is otherwise working properly and the dent hasn't affected any functionality (including battery removal).
Good luck.
BTW, if you have future questions about your MacBook Pro, you'll get the quickest and most accurate answers if you ask in the MacBook Pro area. This forum is for the Mac Pro, Apple's minitower system.

Adobe Edge Inspect App won't launch on MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.5
Hi there,
I can't get Edge Inspect to launch on my MacBook Pro. It works fine on my iMac with the same OS.
We I click on the launcher icon nothing happens (it doesn't even bounce on the dock).
Any idea what's causing this?
Thank you,
Giuseppe.Edge Inspect desktop has no UI and only Inspect icon will be visible in the menu bar. Also, you need to be logged in with Adobe ID in the app.

I have a dent in my Macbook Pro 15 inch, early 2011
It is located near the battery indicator on the side of the laptop.
How much will it approximately cost to fix this?
This dent caused small gap between the unibody and the bottom case.
Thanks a lotSuch dents require replacement of the case itself to repair. I don't know how much it cost in a recent unibody MacBook Pro, but when I dropped my older (non-unibody) MacBook Pro in 2010 and dented it in that same place, I was quoted $610 for the repairs. But, only Apple can tell you what the cost will be for your MacBook Pro.

Small dent on Macbook Pro Retina display screen.
I'm looking for anyone else that has had this problem, ways to either fix it or just what to expect from the Apple Store when I go in. If it has happened to me twice, I feel it can't be too rare. Perhaps just to doccument it as well.
I've had my 15" Macbook Pro with Retina display for 6 months now and other than the screen, I've enjoyed it very much.
Two weeks into having the new computer I found what I thought was a dead pixel (two inches right then two inches up from center) and brought it in. I'd read about such things online and the LG/Samsung debacle but really just wanted my new computer to stay nice and new.
When I got into the store, they told me it was really just a dent in the screen from when dust or something got trapped between the screen and keyboard when it was closed. I thought to myself "Hey, my office is in the basement, maybe something fell down from the bare ceiling and it could have happened." Although I find myself taking very good care of the computer.
They replaced the screen for me under warranty and I instantly went out and got a case, screen cleaner that came with a fine brush to wipe they keyboard off with and a nifty microfiber cloth. Ever since then I've been afraid to close my Macbook Pro and rarely do so. I even asked them what I could do to prevent such things in the future. I was specifically told there wasn't much I could do other than try to ensure it didn't close on any dust. There was no product that would help and they recommended I didn't get a screen protector because it might damage a screen as well. For a laptop it seemed very impractical, but what else was I really supposed to do other than use it as a desktop?
Since then I've moved and no longer work in a basement. Two days ago I noticed the exact same thing appear in very nearly the exact same spot (I didn't document it the first time so I can't be perfectly sure but definitely the ball park of a square cm). I live a ways from an apple store but am visiting home in a week and based off my own experience and others that I have read, they'll replace the screen. I just wanted to esure they had the part since I'll only be in town for the weekend. Apple care had given me a case number and the number of the store, I called to arrange a genius appointment and try to see if they had the part, or at least if they could order it now.
The first man I got on the phone initially said "I don't know why they keep having people call here, let me get a technician for you." A few minutes on hold and I got a woman who claimed very matter of fact "That damage isn't covered, you'll have to pay for the replacement. I just want you to know what to expect when you walk in the store."
This is the same store I had gone to before where they had replaced it without question, I just wanted to try and line everything up before making the trip and having to explain it all when I arrived. I just wish they'd have a plan set out rather than it being up to individual employees.
What can I do to fix this screen? I got this computer based off all the video and photo editing I do and notice it instantly.
Side note, this isn't the same machine that did it before either. When I got my computer back from repair, they had forgotten to plug in the part that has the backlit keyboard. Then when that was fixed, the right side USB didn't function.
The Macbook also had image "ghosting" or retention issues. I hear that can be fixed via software though rather than being just hardware? I don't notice that as much as the little dent however. My display is LP154WT1-SJA1.I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) and just noticed this today in a similar location - from center, mine is about two inches right and one inch up. I thought it was a dead pixel after cleaning it and then realized it was a little dent. The location, when the notebook is closed, corresponds to the flat area between the Command key and Trackpad.
I take very good care of my MacBook and there are certainly no rocks on my keyboard when I close the lid! The screen stands off the keyboard when closed due to the raised trim so this should not have been the cause. I can't think of any other way this might have happened in my situation, though I guess anything is possible.
The effects of this dent are quite visible now in certain circumstances - on a dark background it looks like a little clump of stuck, lit pixels and on a light background it looks like a clump of dead pixels. Too bad, since I bought this, my first Mac, partly for its amazing screen. -
