Macbook Pro electrical shock when you touch iPhone

Can anyone else confirm this:
If you touch the iPhone ( I have a first gen) that's charging through the outlet and touch the body of the MacBook Pro (charging or on battery power), you receive a very uncomfortable tingle. I really don't want to try different ways to make this happen for obvious reasons. Anyone else have this happen to them?
Here is my hardware:
Macbook pro (unibody late 2008)
iPhone (first gen)
It's pretty annoying since I charge my phone on my desk near my Macbook pro.
Anything I can do besides the useless answers such as:
- move it farther away
- use the iphone dock
- etc.
I should be allowed to use my hardware however I wish. Meaning I shouldn't be punished for having my phone in arms reach. I feel like I'm undergoing electroshock therapy.

As mentioned, it is an earthing issue. If you are using 3-prong connectors on all devices and they are plugged into the same UPS or power strip and you still get shocked this could indicate a potentially serious life-threatening problem with the wiring in your house or apartment.
If this is the case, you should have an electrician check thing out.
Luck-

  • Macbook pro electric shocks

Have had my Macbook Pro for just over 12 months and since day 1 - if i use the 3 pin plug i get electric shocks from my Aluminium Unibody, its the same if i fit a European type plug but NOT if i use the long flex lead - i think this is because it has an earth...
So - why is my Mac giving me shocks, and does anyone else have the same issue?
I know its not just my Macbook Pro - i bought my daughter an iMac 21" last month and i was trying to plug a USB printer in to it in the dark and as the USB connector made contact with the aluminium body there were sparks...
    anyone else find this?

Its got nothing to do with the electrical outlets.
as an electrical engineer i can catagorically state that there is a fault on all metal bodied Mac's where there is a "Short to Ground" - a electrical leak to the case which is the earth/ground
this doesnt happen when using the long power lead with your DC Converter because the Mac is then earthed.
when you use the short connector or a travel connector (the small clip on power plugs - any region) the moulding is all plastic - there is no earth pin connection (in the long lead the "shoe" to use a photography term - hace a metal sleave to make the connection to earth)
if this was a washing machine or toaster it would have been recalled and you would have got your money back..
the most expensive computers on gods green earth and they will give you a shock at best and at worst - motor nueron disease
and still no comment from Apple.

  • Static electric shock when hooked up to TV via VGA

I have a 2007 MacBook Pro and have been hooking it up to a new Samsung HDTV via the display output to VGA, as well as the audio out port. I have been streaming video off of Hulu or Netflix and after about 20 minutes of me sitting on the couch away from the computer and TV, I get up to cue the next TV show or change something with the computer and I get an electric shock when I touch the computer.
Any thoughts on what may be causing this? Its not the biggest deal but I don't look forward to it every time that is for sure.
    Thanks in advance.

So is the solution just to wait till the seasons change?
Not sure if either one of us would call that a solution, but if it is static, the problem should get less and less as winter wanes and humidity rises (depending on what climate you're in, of course). I can't recall seeing any in the recent past, but there used to be products available claiming to lower static in households. I've never looked into them. I do try to be careful and touch something else grounded before touching my MBP as electronics and stray electrical charges are not a particularly good combination.

  • Can you give me some reasons about why I need to buy an iPod touch 5.Although I have the iPhone ,iPod nano, iPad ,MacBook pro,I think the iPod touch 5 is so attractive that I can't help buying it at once.If I have it,what I can do with it,can you tell me?

All I can say is that I REALLY like my Touch 4th gen because I have all sorts of capabilities in a small form: e-mail, web browsing, news, weather, books, magazines, etc. etc.  Plus lots and lots of apps out there, including so many free ones.  I use the Cloud a lot so it's great to have everything sync'd to my MacBookPro (e-mail, Evernote, Pocket, etc.)
It would be easier, though, to do some of this, especially magazines, on the iPad mini, but, again, I love the small size of the Touch.
As for the 5th gen instead of the 4th, the fifth has Siri and the 3D feature in maps, which are great.  And I'm sure it's a lot faster in iOS 6 than the 4th gen.  And cool colors!
    Don't know if this helps . . .

  • I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. Tried synching my phone through iTunes (11.0.1 I think... on a 2009 Macbook Pro). Now when I connect to iTunes, it says it does not recognise the content on my phone. Is this because my phone (and laptop) are too old?

I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. Tried synching my phone through iTunes (11.0.1 I think... on a 2009 Macbook Pro). Now when I connect to iTunes, it says it does not recognise the content on my phone. Is this because my phone (and laptop) are too old?
Also, when I tried to Restore the settings, an Error Message pops up that says " The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. The requested resource was not found.
I'm trying to free up space on my phone by removing [literally] thousands of old photos which were originally synched to the phone, because I had forgotten to uncheck the photos button when I synched it ages ago.
I have also tried synching it on my 24" iMac (running OSX Snow Leopard). But again, when I try restoring the phone through itunes, it says the file is corrupted. It sggests unplugging the device, and then plugging it in again. I have done this numerous times with no success.
I'm guessing it must be because my phone (and versions of iTunes, and OSX) are all too old.
    Please can anybody help.
    Cheers,
    Dan_nz.

Why did you mark your post as solved?
You will be better off posting in either the Lion or the iPhoto forum areas as this area is for Macbook Pro issues.  You are having software issues.

  • HT1766 How do you sync an iphone with itunes on a new MacBook Pro without deleting everything on your iPhone?  It is the iPhone 4.

How do you sync an iphone 4 with itunes on a new MacBook Pro without deleting everything on your iPhone 4 if it was previously syned on a PC?

Follow the steps listed here under the section titled "External Drive".  Once you find the location of the iTunes Media folder you can transfer it over a netork connection, rather than using an external drive.

    If not why option available

What Carolyn says is correct. You can, however, share an Internet connection with your iPhone wirelessly by turning in Internet sharing (found in System Preferences > Sharing.) If your MacBook Pro is already using a wireless connection, you can just connect to the same wireless network it is using.
    Best of luck.

I am using my old iPhone for playlist for my Dad's funeral as that meets the crematorium requirements. Some tracks - uploaded from personal CDs to MacBook Pro and successfully transferred to new iPhone (with small doc) won't transfer on syncing.  Most do, but why won't some, of my own music sync when others off the same album and in the same playlist do? I have now checked the storage, freed up 766MB, how can i not sync (and get everything i've just deleted back) but upload the required tunes? All help appreciated, many thanks x x x

I don’t want to hear any of that “iTunes will let you re-download anything you’ve lost” nonsense.
it won't anyways. except or apps, you are entitled to one download only. there4 it is important to back up.

  • Windows laptops can't connect to Macbook Pro shared internet when WEP security is on

As the title states, my Windows laptops can't connect to Macbook Pro shared internet when WEP security is on.  My iPhone has no problem asking for the password when I try to access the shared internet my MacBook Pro on Mountain Lion is sending, but my Samsung Slate on Windows 8 sees the network and only succeeds in connecting when no password is required.  When security is on, it just tries for a moment and says it can't connect to the network without ever prompting me for the password.  The same thing occurs on my Asus Netbook running Windows XP.  Since all the reviews about OS X's internet sharing mentions "any wifi device" can access it, I haven't assumed it's only compatible with Apple products.  I want my MacBook Pro to save me from needing an external router.

I would post a new question, outline the specific problem you are having and skip all the extra. Outline any steps you have taken already to try and solve the problem. Post the question in the forum most likely to have followers who can answer your question. Give your topic a good title such as: My MacBook Pro cannot connect to my WEP-enabled PC.
Provide any hardware information that may be relevant such as the make and model of your router and method of connection - wired or wireless.
I'm no authority, but have you tried using WPA2/Personal on your PCs? This method is most compatible with Macs.
If the WEP password is a hexadecimal password then on the Mac you need to preceed the number with a $ sign or the hex digits, 0x.

  • I have a new MacBook Pro, and existing iPad 2 and iphone.

I have a new MacBook Pro, and existing ipad 2 and iphone 4s. icloud was already set up on the iphone and ipad, and it is now set up on the MacBook Pro.  However, when I make an entry in one device, it does not populate the other two devices.  Also, all my podcasts and music did not populate itunes in the computer.  What am I missing?

Could you please confirm what it is you are making an entry in, that isn't syncing (address book, iCal etc)
Is there any reason you think iTunes should automatically fill your library for you.

  • My MacBook Pro shuts down when i connect a USB cable.

My MacBook Pro shuts down when  i connect a USB cable, only when its a 30 pin apple cable. Well one USB shuts it down and the other one doesn't work at all.
it only happens when i use an apple cable. It has no problem with my external drive nor with other things.
Ps. i did use different apple cables and they all shut it down.

What are you connecting? iPad, iPhone, what?
When you say a 30-pin Apple cable do you mean a Lightening to USB cable?
    Little more info needed...
