MacBook Pro fails to Login after battery ran out.

Hi!
I have been working on my MacBook Pro (Retina 15") for the past few hours, untill it ran out of battery. I then walked to my power cord and pluged it in. The MacBook boots and comes up with the login screen. When I log in, the screen goes black and it reboots. This repeats untill I boot from my Recovery USB and repair the MacintoshHD Volume (and reboot a couple of times).
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks

Portables with built-in batteries
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
Yes. The computer should be sent to Apple to have the battery checked out.
Battery is in warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase. It is wise to bring any hardware related
issue to the attention of Apple.
Best.

Macbook Pro won't login after sleep (sleep with low battery --> mac turned off maybe it's called save sleep)
So if I hit the powerbutton my mbp booted like it is booting from the save sleep (so very fast and the login screen is there in about 10 sec.and there is no apple logo while booting just the desktop screen in "unsharp" ore foggy however...)
Then when i see the login (if the keyboard backlight turned on) i wand do tipe in my code but it won't work... the trackpad is not working; and when i plug-in a usb mouse the mbp is not powering on the usb-mouse (laser is off)
    Why is that this way?
Is there n option to wake up the mbp fromm deep/save sleep without haveing issiues after that?

Sorry for such a long delayed response...
I was able to get to an apple store this past weekend, and let me tell you... I'm about finished with there great "support".
Right before I went to the store, I tried to eject a disk. Well the cloth in the SuperDrive (I assume to protect the drive from dust and such) Pulled up with my disk. So I get the Apple store, describe my problem and what happened with the cloth piece. The "Genius" writes up a form and tells me they have to run diagnostic and it will take a couple days... and I will get a call when its done (1-3 days).
Well on day number 3 I called up the store and they told me it was ready to be picked up? I asked if anything had been fixed and they told me they could not reproduce my "sleep issue", so they couldn't fix that.. but told me the cloth piece in the SuperDrive had been fixed.
I drive an hour (one way) to the Apple store to find that all they did was PULLED OUT the cloth... they did not replace it! So basically I have a hole for a Super Drive.
I asked why I was not called to say that my computer was ready to be picked up... didn't get an answer on that one.
I asked why my SuperDrive was said to be fixed, when nothing was done... they told me that it would have to be sent out to the factory store for that to be fixed (FIRST TIME THEY MENTIONED THAT!) Oh, and that would take 5-7 business days. Well that's not going to happen right now considering I'm a college student that NEEDS a working computer!
So I go home, angry... start just putting all my important documents back on the computer. And the screen starts blinking!!!! I guess now I have the same thing described in another post on these forms...
Lets just say that I'm not very happy with Apple right now! If anybody else has success on either the sleep issue or the screen blinking issue, please let me know!
    Thank you!

  • I have a MacBook Pro 15" and my warranty just ran out! I partitioned my harddrive into two partitions, one with Snow Leopard and the other with microsoft. This morning I turned on my Macbook Pro and it will not boot into Snow Leopard.

    Good Morning,
I have a MacBook Pro 15" and my warranty just ran out! I partitioned my harddrive into two partitions, one with Snow Leopard and the other with microsoft. This morning I turned on my Macbook Pro and it will not boot into Snow Leopard. I shut it off took out the battery, reinstalled the battery. Then I put in the Snow Leopard CD and booted up to disk utility and The Snow Leopard partion would not show up?? I do see the microsoft partion.
I also rebooted holding down the shift key and still no Snow Leopard
Could you please tell me what I can do, what keys do I press on restart any advice to get Snow leopard back.
    thank you.

Have you restarted holding down the Opt key?  That procedure should give you a gray screen with all of the partitions that exist.  Then select the SL partition for boot.  Also go to System Preferences and Startup Disk, unlock the lock and select the SL partition as the default boot partition, then relock.

  • Macbook pro failing to restart after new update

After trying to install the new update my MacBook pro fails to restart, its stuck on the Apple logo and then the screen goes black, it wont load in safe mode either. Apple support on the phone tells me that its a coincidence and that the display is shot?

On the bottom of your MBPis  the serial number.  Enter it here and post back the model and year information:

  • Macbook Pro fails on startup after drive format and OSX reinstall

    Hi all,
I have a 2012 15'' Retina Macbook Pro - pretty new, so it surprises me I'm having this issue.
The problem was pretty sudden - one day upon startup, I would be immediately told that Finder has closed unexpectedly. From this point on, little functionality remained. Sometimes I could launch a program, rarely would it respond to any input. Launchpad was molasses - I watched my individual apps drawn on the screen one at a time each time it launched. Pressing restart on my keyboard brought up the restart menu but making a selection closed the menu without restart. The only way to shut it off is to hold the power button and do a hard restart.
I've now formatted the entire partition from my recovery partition on startup and done a fresh install of OSX (Mountain Lion I believe). Even without restoring my data from a backup I encounter the same issues.
This screams hardware to me, but for the baffling fact that my Windows partition is running just fine - I'm using it right now. I'm not sure where to turn - if it is hardware, is there a way to contact Apple without paying them money? Certainly a defect of this nature warrants replacement from Apple if there's no other solution, correct? I appreciate any advice and expertise.
    All the best,
    Hertafeld

Actually just to note - one of the people I did manage to find on a forum having the same issue was running OS X as a virtual machine, which would suggest that it’s a software fault - is it possible my Install DVD could have become corrupted somehow or an update in the past year has made some incompatibility between it and my computer’s hardware? If so is there a way of downloading a Snow Leopard ISO image from Apple to try burning and installing from that?
I found this topic: https://discussions.apple.com/message/12459943#12459943 where someone manages to get around the issue by using a different install disc, though I obviously only have the one that came with my Macbook…… halp!

  • MacBook Pro fails to boot after failing to install Leopard

I have a Macbook pro G4 with tiger 4.11 and I tried to upgrade to Snow Leopard. The new system did not install "not compatible " and then it crashed. I tried to reboot but it won't do anything. I put the old installation disk and press "C" and it tried to boot up up and then just shuts off. I did the same with the four fingers: command, shift option, delete with the cd installation in and it will still not boot up. any ideas??

Hi Elaine, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Do you have access to another Mac with Firewire?
If so see if it boots into Target mode...

  • Macbook Pro freezing on boot up and ran out of methods to fix it!

My Late 2011 Macbook pro has recently started acting up. Freezing on normally fine applications and bogging down to a hault. Now my macbook won't even start up. The progress bar is currently at about 50%, and that took about an hour. Its been running for 4 hours with no movement at all. It kept stopping at 50% every time I restarted it so I did some googling and tried to fix the issue.
Here is what I have done so far:
Verified and repaired the disk and permissions.
    Reset PRAM
Booted into single user mode and used the fsck -fy command
    Booted into Apple Hardware Test
** No problems reported by any of the above methods the hardware tested OK for all of above.
**I also tried to boot into safe mode, but it still got stuck on startup.
    Macbook Pro Specs:
    Model: Late 2011 13"
    Ram: 4GB
    HDD: 720GB
    Processor: Intel Dual Core i7
OSX: Yosemite (Not sure which version came on it when I bought it)
I even reinstalled OSX Yosemite and the problem still remains.
If there is anymore information you need that can help fix this issue, then please let me know.
If anyone can help me fix this problem I will greatly appreciate it.

Try running an Apple hardware Test:

  • 15" Retina Macbook Pro won't login after 10.8.3 update failure

I just attempted to installing 10.8.3 on my Retina mbp and after failing I could no longer login. When attempting login, the screen would flash white then go back to the login screen.
I was able to get to safe boot by holding the shift key during boot.
From safe boot I was able to download the 10.8.3 combo update. OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.3 (Combo)http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1640
After reapplying the update and it succeeded and I was able to log back in to normal mode.
    Hope this helps someone!

Word of advice. It is a business. Don't just install changes, not without updating your cloned backup, not on day one (security patches that are critical are important but VERY often even those have a high rate of 'breaking' the china and causing havoc.
High fans etc are rarely PRAM related. Might be SMC.
Install OS X on another drive. Update to 10.8.2. Clone. Put clone on shelf. Rerun the COMBO update - if you are using delta update, they do sometimes fail to take, it use to be combo updates were the only safe update but seems updates are better and safer.
but it is best to have a TEST system if possible to try a new update or program on, even if that is just a disk that you clone, and keep and leave your production system AS IS for a week... or two.
unplug everything. hit power. connect only power and one monitor and kb/mouse.

  • Macbook Pro fails to boot after any OS update.

Hi, I've been a PC user all my life so please be patient!
I have a mid 2010 MBP running 10.6.3 with Win7 on a boot camp partition. I have read and followed the instructions regarding boot issues from many sources on these forums but nothing so far has solved my problem.
I can install anything via software update as long as it isnt an OS update. Any OS update installs fine but the MBP will not reboot afterwards; I get an endless spinner. I cant boot into safe mode either, endless spinner again after the progress bar dissappears.
I have verified and repaired the disk in single user mode and via the disk utilities tool after booting into the install DVD, I have repaired permissions I have tried just about every instruction I could find, I have read posts where people are talking about replacing ACPIPPlatform.kext and IOPCIFamily.kext but I'm not sure this applies to me as they seem to be saying to lift those files from 10.6.6 / 10.6.7 and I cant event get to 10.6.4.
Just to be clear, I cannot update to anything above 10.6.3. I have tried combo and single updates for every patch version from 10.6.4 up to 10.6.8 and the MBP will not reboot after any of the OS updates. The only way I can get the machine to boot again is to wipe the Mac partition and re-install 10.6.3. So, am I doomed to be stuck on 10.6.3 forever?
To add insult to injury, of course Windows 7 works perfectly
I have no obvious HD issues, once I reinstall 10.6.3 everything works perfectly.
It did cross my mind that the only thing I haven't tried is to strip the win partition off completely and put the MBP back to pure mac and see if the updates work then but thats a lot of hassle (its a dev machine) so I thought I'd ask if any of you fine people might be able to help me out before I go for the nuclear option.
    Thanks.

Put a bootable backup/clone of your 10.6.3 volume onto an ext FWHD using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!, boot from it, and try updating to 10.l6.8. If that works, then finish updating everything, and reverse the process. If not, then, try the nuclear option. I don't do windoze, so you'll have to figure out to back that stuff up before proceeding.

  • Macbook pro will not login after typing in password.

Whenever I type in the password, pressing enter will just highlight the password I typed in and do nothing. Whenever I click the enter button, nothing happens either.  I can still use the media keys and play songs through spotify... I just cannot login.  Whenever I hold the power button down, nothing happens either, I can't even turn it off.

I closed the laptop, came back and opened it, and that's how the problem happened.

  • Trackpad gestures freezes after battery runs out

I have noticed very annoying problem with my macbook pro. Everytime when the battery runs out trackpads finger gestures freezes and only one finger using + scrolling with two works but nothing with three or four fingers. Also the mouse acceleration like shuts down. Only way to make the trackpad working again is to reboot the computer.
I have also tried deepsleep widget and the problem doesn't seem to have anything to do with the hibernation but with the battery life ending.
Does anyone have a same problem and any way to fix it without rebooting the computer?

No I mean when the battery really runs out and computer goes to sleep and then the blinking light stops blinking and computer goes to hibernate mode.

  • Im having trouble getting my macbook pro to boot up after a fail safe boot, im getting as far as the grey screen with the apple loggo. so im trying to run a disk repair but is saying the disk is locked, how do i unlock disk??

Im having trouble getting my macbook pro to boot up after a fail safe boot, im getting as far as the grey screen with the apple loggo. so im trying to run a disk repair but is saying the disk is locked, how do i unlock disk??

    Some clarification may help.
You say you cannot boot normally.  It shows a gray screen with the Apple logo.
Did you say it will boot successfully in Safe Mode (boot, then hold down the Shift key)?
How did you boot the machine to run Disk Utility?  (Which keyboard combinations)?

  • Macbook Pro shut down because the battery power ran out. Now I cannot start it and the battery will not charge. Only one green battery charge light lights up and blinks.

My Macbook Pro shut down because the battery power ran out. Now I cannot start it and the battery will not charge. Only one green battery charge light lights up and blinks on the left side. I am running Lion. How do I get this to charge and turn on? Thanks

If your model Macbook Pro is the calibrating model, let the battery calibrate.
If not, and are still under warrant or have Apple Care, give them a call and get a case number.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Macbook pro runs really slow after sleep mode

My MBP ( MacBook Pro (13-inch, medio 2012), 2,5 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB), runs very slow after sleep mode. I notice that when I wake it up, my memory usage is nearly 8 GB. After a restart it is back no a normal level, between 2 and 5 GB depending on how many programs I am running. Any ideas what causes this? My IOS is Yosemite 10.10.2
