MACBOOK PRO FAULTY??

Ever since getting my macbook pro in April i have noting but bother with it, The system is slow, takes a long to to power up compared to friends who have same spec macs, the mac keeps shutting down to restart, or just generally freezes. I was workign on a document the other day and it crashed, and i lost all my work, no auto recover. The mac just seems to do what it wants! I want to take this to an Apple store, however i cant be without a laptop for more than a day, i need it for work and Uni. would they give me a new one or refurbish it??

They will not give you a new one for these kinds of issues. If there is a hardware problem, they will repair it for you at this point, and if it's not an issue caused by accidental damage, those repairs will be covered for free under warranty. However, most likely, none of that is a hardware problem.
If I had to guess, I'd say you probably have some bad third-party software. See my Mac Performance Guide. The section titled "Check third-party software" will cover how to test for and isolate problems caused by third-party software, but some of the other sections might also apply.

  • Macbook Pro- Faulty Touchpad Dragging?

    Hello to the Macbook Pro community and supporters:
    I currently use a MacBook Pro, unibody, that is about one-year-and-a-half old (purchased in November 2009).
    Recently, dragging while holding the trackpad down (as a click) has been somewhat unresponsive, with multiple tries required to make the drag "stick" and drag the item to where I intend.
    Has this ocurred with other users of the MacBook Pro?  How could I resolve this issue?
    As a side question, how long should I expect the machine to remain durable?

    Run all updates listed in Software Updates (your system info shows you're at 10.6.2).
    Try an SMC Reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    My first PB from around 1991-2 still runs fine, but is hopelessly outdated. Although it and every PB/MBP I've purchased since then all run normally, I'd say that for most people who use their MBP "normally" and treat it well, five years is reasonable and probably conservative estimate. Of course some will die before then.

    Yes it is a hardware problem and must go to Apple or AASP to be repaired. Nothing you can do as a User to fix it.

    Go into the Sound Option in Sys Prefs and select the HDMI as the output source.

  • Macbook pro faulty charging....

    if i disconnect my computer, and then reconnect it once i need to start charging. the charger wont light up at all. i will need to unplug from the wall, and then plug it again. it only works if i do that, its not enough to try disconnecting just the computer. should i replace the charger?

    Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. Have them diagnose the issue. It may be more than the charger.

    You put the internal drive in an enclosure. If you choose to keep the drive, you don't need to erase it.

    Apple service centre employee told me that they do not have this 14 day offer in India.
    And My mac book pro is taken in by Service centre people to run test etc and I will be informed the next day if they accept it as a fault or not ?
    I feeling ridiculously bad.

    I bought a MacBook Pro with retina display in July 2012. Recently my MBPr developed some issues. I feel like something moves (or slides to and fro) inside the Mac when I take out the computer from the bag and hold it in my hand. I don't know whether I have been able to explain the issue as I'm not a native English speaker. I contacted the retailer I bought the Mac from. They told me they can only change the faulty parts if there are any, but they cannot replace the Mac for a new one because  Apple does not replace any Mac in Asia. The prerogative is only in Asia, Europe, Australia and the US. Is it really the case? If things turn out that Apple cannot make good on its warranty without replacing the Mac what shall they do in that case? Could you pls explain?

    As best I know, after 14 days Apple will repair your MBP if it is within the warranty period for free.  In rare instances, if they have not been able to repair it after several attempts, they may replace it.  I suggest contacting Apple and ship your MBP to the for inspection/repair or bring it to an Apple store or an Apple reseller.

    Yes thats what i thought but i only have 77 days left on my garentee so its a worry, and have to drive 1 hour to get to closest Apple shop, spent the whole day there today when i should have been at work and have to make the drive again on Monday Then back again next Friday to pick it up. I paid over £1000 ponds for this computer so wouldnt expect it to have its insides replaced befor a year. Feel very let down, and no longer love my macbook pro.

    The SD card slot ois for SD cards not Memory Sticks. hat is why nothing is happening. you will need a Memory stick reader that connects to one of the USB ports.

    I would like to offer this solution.  I have a MacBook Pro with an external monitor, and, for a year and a half both displays slept when I closed the MBPS.  This behavior stopped when I installed Lion.  They would sleep when I removed the power cord, but what a pain that would be.  The command "pmset -g assertions" gave no indication of which process ought be preventing sleep.
    I contacted Apple support, and after some searching, the guy working with me found this thread, which was flagged as an Apple-approved solution:

    Here's the command to make your laptop behave like it did Pre-Lion (courtesy of my friend):
    sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0"
    Works perfectly for me. If it screws up your system, just zap the PRAM next boot (cmd-opt-p-r) and you'll be back to the default Lion state. Or if you can still get into terminal, this command will get you back to Lion's default state as well:
    sudo nvram -d boot-args
    Enjoy!
    One snag was that I had to run it with the external monitor disabled, but it worked great!

    The hard drive on my laptop is failing: overall performance has greatly diminished, the computer has slowed down, sometimes even crashing;  looking at /var/ log messages, plenty of I/O error messages are building up.

  • Synchronizing iMac & MacBook Pro causes faulty cursor

    After cloning my iMac and MacBook Pro back and forth a few times using SuperDuper in order to keep them synchronized, the cursors on both machines were intermittently non-functional upon startup.Of course one has a trackpad and one doesn't. I reinstalled OS10.6.1 from the Snow Leopard Disc purchased at the Apple store onto the iMac and reinstalled OS10.6.1 from the disc that came with the laptop onto the laptop, but the problem has persisted on both machines. Usually if I wait ten minutes the cursor will start working on its own, but sometimes it doesn't function until I restart the computer several times and wait each time to see if the cursor comes back on its own. Apple tech support suggested getting rid of all third party software, reinstall the OS and then add third party apps to see if one of them is causing the problem. What a headache! Any suggestions as how to fix the problem or suggestions as the best way to sycnh the 2 machines?

    the first suggestion would be to NEVER use superduper to clone drives back and forth between different model computers. this will inevitably lead to problems due to differences in hardware. I'm very surprised you can even boot the computers after that.
    if reinstalling the OS did not work make a new user account and log into it. do you have the same problems there?
