Macbook Pro fell, dented, and other injuries.

Hi guys.
Had an unfortunate event where my sling bag slipped off and fell to ground. My macbook pro is now slightly dented, and the magsafe power slot is now a bit tilted. It's running fine though but I am concern whether the impact from the fall would affect my macbook in any way.
Had scheduled for an appointment but that is only 2 days later. Any advice at this point would really be appreciated.
Thanks.

Sure it affected the MBP. It got dented didn't it? And more then likely may have damaged something inside. This type of damage may not show for a period of time. It all depends on what may of been damaged.
Just keep using it as it is and if it fails then take it in to be fixed.

  • Compatibility of Past-Years Cinema Display with Macbook Pro Late 2011, and other displays.

    Hello.
I'm inquiring about the compatibility of Apple cinema displays from years past with Macbook Pro 15" Late 2011.
For instance, will all Apple Cinema Displays from, say, 2008 onwards work with my mbook?
They can be had fairly cheaply on the used market.
What is the earliest model that will be compatible?
I've never had an external monitor for my lappies, so I am very clueless. I know DVI is a common connection, but there is no DVI port on my lappie.
I would also be very curious as to what would be suitable displays from other manufacturers, particularly Samsung and Dell.
The size doesn't have to be big, 20-23 inch is fine, I am more worried about good resolution [no obvious pixellation]
If a screen is big, but has good resolution that's even better of course, but I'm not ****-bent on a big thing.
The mbook 15" screen is just a bit squashy for home use really.
Thank you very much in advance for any advice.
Feel free to link me to other threads as an answer, I have done a bit of searching around, but still confused.

I have the same MBP and recently bought a 23" cinema display on Craigslist for $140.  It works great.  I had a display port to DVI adapter and it worked fine.  Built a stand to hold the laptop vertically so it's out of the way.  Don't know about older displays but anything with DVI should work fine.
The screen size and resolution are great for photo editing.  I now have the best of both worlds, a display that rivals my wife's iMac and portability.

  • How Good Can The MacBook Pro Play Minecraft and other games like assassins creed?

    Please Answer!

You shouldn't have any problem running Minecraft; It's Java based and will run on most platforms. I'm running Minecraft without a hitch.
Assasins Creed? Hmm, depending on your hardware spec i shouldn't see you having a problem.
I'm running on the 2013 15" Retina, with dedicated graphics chip though; However the Activity Monitor shows that it is using the Iris chipset to run Minecraft.
    Hope that helps.

  • Retina MacBook Pro not charging, and other problems

So I've had my rMBP for a couple weeks now, and except for slight concerns with its build quality, it has been running fine. I had a kernel panic over those first few weeks, but nothing else. All of the sudden, my MagSafe adapter stopped showing the orange/green light, and stopped charging completely. I checked all of the simple explanations, switched outlets and even reset my SMC. I ended up turning it off and plugged it in overnight, waking up with it completely charged. Over the course of the next day, my CPU usage went up to like 800%, with a process "kernel_task" going out of control with both CPU and Memory usage. I also had multiple kernel panics, ending up with it once again not being able to charge. I left it plugged in again, and eventually it began charging again. These problems have been extremely frustrating, and I'm now once again left with a computer that has no battery and no way to charge it. Any advice? Right now my top priority is getting some juice into it to at least make it usable for the time being. The nearest apple store is ~2 hrs away, so if there's a way to solve things without the genius bar, that would be ideal. Thanks for your time!

Call AppleCare.  They will tell you the nearest AASP you can take your MBP in for repairs.  Apple Stores are not the only places that repair Macs.

  • Macbook pro fell and won't start up

Last night my macbook pro fell from the table, it didn't look damaged on the outside, put it to sleep and went to sleep myself. This morning i opened it up and the rainbow wheel ket spinning whatever I did. Restarted it and same thing. I tried all the possible options suggested, different keyboard combinations at start up. Verified the disk using the original cd but by hard disk won't mount, i see the hard disk icon on the top left pane but if i click on it, i read not mounted on the bottom part of the panel. Tried disk utility starting the mac on retrieve mode and says "disk can't be repaired". Now if i shut down the mac and start it up again the apple logo appears and the gear keep spinning but nothing happens. Any idea what might have happened? It was working fine before yestarday. Lion os installed.
I also would like to backup the data on time machine but can't since the mac won't start up. Any suggestion?
    Thanx

Take it to your local Genius Bar. They will be able to diagnose it there, and offer a solution.

Sounds like something internal was damaged in the fall, probably the disk drive. Take to Apple and ask them to fix it.

Likely because it's a not self contained and/or it's game and copy protected, so install it via the developers instructions instead, which likely means it will have ot be uninstalled off the first machine, the developer contacted for a new license key before installing on the newer machine.
If you want it on both machines, you will need to likely buy another license.
Most developers are fine with transfering license between machines, you have to contact them.
They just want to make sure it's only on one machine so they are not getting robbed.

  • HT4279 I have a Macbook Pro (late 2012) and I would like to connect it to 2 screens simultaneously (1 screen is a TV and can only take HDMI, the other is a larger computer screen and has both VGA and HDMI connections). How can I do this?

The article you cited refers to The Mac Pro, a 50lb silver tower -- not a notebook computer.
    Everymac.com says:
    2nd Display Support:
    Dual/Mirroring*
    2nd Max. Resolution:
    2560x1600 (x2*)
    Details:
*This model supports a simultaneous maximum resolution up to 2560x1600 on two external displays via Thunderbolt. Alternately, it can support a single display up to 2560x1600 via Thunderbolt and a single display up to 1920x1200 via HDMI. Although it can theoretically power all three external displays, as confirmed by a helpful reader, it runs too hot with three displays connected.
Also see: How many external displays can the Retina Display MacBook Pro models support? What is the maximum supported resolution of each? Are adapters required?
When using other than ThunderBolt displays, the ThunderBolt port is directly compatible with Mini DisplayPort, and can be forced into compatibility (with Single-Link DVI or HDMI up to 1920 wide) with a simple adapter.
To adapt to wider displays, an ACTIVE Dual-Link adapter is needed, about US$100.

  • I have a new Macbook Pro running Mavericks and safari consistently freezes. It takes several 'return/enter' presses to get to the page I requested. I have seen other comments and replies on how to fix (clear cache, clear extensions/plug-ins), to no avail.

I have a new macbook pro running mavericks and only using Safari as my browser.  75% of my url requests are 'hung up' and freeze.  I have seen other posts and have tried to clear cache, reset safari, remove extensions, but to no avail.
    Any recommendations?

If it works in a new user account, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

As Tom said the FCS forum is the better place to post the question.
Here is Apple's best practices doc for installing both on the same system.
BTW, FCP7 is part of the FCS 3 suite of apps.

  • HT1379 macbook pro fell asleep. does not come up again

macbook pro fell into sleep mode. empty battery. does not start anymore. even with power supply. led light blinkin continiously 1sec. sound of harddrive like starting but it does not start. any help?

I agree with you 110%. It is a fools game to do updates and especially OS upgrades without a good backup.
So are you up and running now? I hope so! Nothing more frustrating than to have problems. I did a clean install of my Mac Mini and it has taken me all day to get it back up to full form. I did an upgrade of my MacBook Pro and it was simple, but I am finding some little glitches here and there that I didn't have with my clean install. Things like email passwords not being remember, not able to access my google contacts and calendar without it telling me I am not logged into MobileMe. None of these issues are happening with my clean install. Oh well I'll eventually get it figured out.

  • My macbook pro fell :(

my macbook pro fell from my bed on hard wood floor now it won't turn on and it makes loud noises like "beep, beep, beep....beep, beep, beep.... beep, beep, beep,...etc." (always three times every time.) please help me. thanks you.

Also, you will have to pay for any repairs yourself.  Dropping your mac with damage resulting does not qualify for free repair under Apples warranty...although it sounds like your ram may have come unseated.  Open up the bottom of your mac and make sure the ram modules are seated.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547

  • Help! My macbook pro fell out of my bag on to asphalt!!

My macbook pro fell out of my bag on to asphalt and kinda pushed in the rubber feet, top left , near the power port. It was in a foam kind of case which protected it somewhat. except for the top left corner, which has a hole in it. That hole scared me cause apparently the fall was hard enough to slice the material. MBP seems to be working fine though it is wobbly now cause of the pushed in feet. I worry though, if there are internal problems. Could pushed in feet affect the inside. also, if i bring it in to an apple store for them to check, will they void my warranty? My MBP is less than a months old!

Anything is possible after such an event, but the damage may not be something a tech can see.  Your machine could, unfortunately, stop working at any point, requiring costly repairs to get it working again.  Or it could keep working in this condition for years.  There's no real way to know.  Just keep using it, make sure to maintain a very good set of frequently-updated backups, and don't worry about it until you have to.

  • I updated to MacBook pro last night and now safari won't open

I updated my MacBook Pro last night and since I did this I can not open Safari.  It crashes and sends a report to Apple.  Not tech smart enouh to figure it out can anyone give me simple suggestions?

Please elaborate on what exactly you mean by it "won't open".
Do you try to launch it and get an error message from the Finder (for example, something like "This application is damaged and cannot be launched....")? Does an icon for the application ever appear in the Dock when you try to launch it? Does it start to launch and then immediately crashes (Finder will display an "unexpectedly quit" dialog)? Or does it start to launch and never seems to "finish" launching (in other words, it basically hangs and is unresponsive)?
If the application crashes, please post the contents of the crash log here.
Otherwise, if the application seems to be hanging, can you, before attempting to launch it, open the Console.app application (it's in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder), and see if anything is reported when you attempt to launch it? If so, please post it here.

  • How do I use my serial number to find information about my MacBook Pro's Processor and RAM?

So I want to find information about my MacBook Pro's processor and RAM using the serial number because the MacBook no longer works. I remember being able to find this information on the apple website before, maybe by using the coverage checker. Did they take this information out of the coverage checker? Is it no longer possible for a costumer to obtain this information?

Append the last three characters of it to http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords= and load the page.
This won't reveal how much RAM it currently has installed.
