Macbook pro freeces after sleep (after update to mountain lion)
hi,
i got a annoying problem (because it kills one of the macbooks biggest features):
since i updated to mountain lion, the macbook won't come back from sleep mode.
so if i reopen it, the apple-logo appears with a loading bar underneath. when reaching the last bar of the loading bar, nothing happens any more - i have to restart.
i already tried this SMC-reset, but this did not help. bluetooth is not turned on (which i figured out could be a problem).
any ideas?
thx, rainer
These machines were never meant to be "laptops." Not since the late 1990s were Macs truly "laptops" in terms of their heat. As long as nothing else is out of the ordinary, and you aren't being asked in four languages to shut down the machine, just keep it on a cool well ventilated surface that is not made out of felt or cotten, and you should be fine. There numerous pads for notebooks that can cool it down with or without fans. Don't get the iCurve, as the rubber on it can lose its adhesiveness.

My MacBook Pro is running slowly. I run Mountain Lion on it. I received the following report from Etrecheck. Can someone help me decipher it and provide me with steps to fix the slow speed?

I purchased my Macbook Pro in November 2011 and just installed mountain lion but do not have the power nap option.. anyone know why?
It is for the MacBook with built in flash storage.

4. Power Nap requires a Mac notebook with built-in flash storage. May require a firmware update. -
HT1338 How to upgrade MacBook Pro from OS 10.5 (Leopard) to Mountain Lion?
How do I upgrade a MacBook Pro from OS 10.5 (Leopard) to Mountain Lion? Do I need to upgrade in stages, i.e. to Snow Leopard, then to Lion, then to Mountain Lion, or can it be a more direct route?
R.Hi Richard,
You need at least 10.6.6 installed to get & use the App store for purchase & download, & just read that Lion/10.7 is no longer available!???
Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
General requirements
* Mac computer with an Intel processor
* 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
* 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
* DVD drive for installation
* Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
* Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It looks like they might still have it...
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
It's been reported that if you have a MobileMe account, it may be free from Apple.
If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
Lion/101.7 System requirements
• x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
• At least 2GB of memory, I say 6 GB
• Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
• At least 4GB of disk space for downloading, I say 50 GB.
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

What applications are not compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion"?
http://ow.ly/5Iz09
http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Macs that will support OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
As usual, the newer the Mac the better:
• MacBook Pro – 13″ from mid 2009 or later, 15″ from late 2007 and newer, 17″ from late 2007 and newer
• MacBook Air – late 2008 and newer
• iMac – models from mid 2007 and newer
• MacBook – 13″ aluminum from 2008, 13″ from 2009 and newer
• Mac Mini – early 2009 and newer
• Mac Pro – early 2008 models and newer
• XServe – early 2009 models and newer
Macs that are NOT expected to support OS X Mountain Lion
Older Macs and those with weaker GPU’s will likely be left behind:
• Anything with an Intel GMA 950 or x3100 integrated graphics card
• Anything with an ATI Radeon X1600
• MacBook models released prior to 2008
• Mac Mini released prior to 2007
• iMac models released prior to 2007
• Original MacBook Air
This list of compatible and incompatible Macs and system requirements are based off of the first OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview and may be subject to change, we will update when we learn more about the specifics. OS X Mountain Lion will be released this summer but presumably long before that we will know precise system requirements and what Macs are and are not supported by the new version of OS X. Stay tuned.

My app store on my macbook pro no longer shows that i purchased mountain lion. So when I am trying to do a reinstall it is not letting me put mountain lion, without re-purchasing it
Pardon the question, but you are checking the mac app store > Purchases (not iTunes or iTunes store or the app store for iDevices)? Have you tried holding the Option key while clicking on Purchases (shows hidden purchases).

I am at 10.7.5 on a 2009 Macbook Pro. Why should I upgrade to Mountain Lion?
In ways, Mountain Lion is a more efficient operating system than Lion, however, if you are happy with Lion and it meets all of your needs, there is o reason to change. You can easily enough compare the features of the two and see if you are missing something that is important to you. And then decide if you want to change.

Macbook Pro won't sleep after updating to 10.4.11
Hi,
I just updated to 10.4.11 reluctantly from 10.4.9 as whenever I do update I always have issues...I basically just went to software update last week and updated to everything I could. I've just been reading the forums and noted that updating is not always that easy...
Well basically my computer won't sleep if the lid is left open, this is IMMENSELY annoying since I often leave my desk to work on drawings, and I don't want energy being wasted like it is at the minute. Call me picky but I just want my computer to work.
I've reseted the PRAM, (option, alt, p and r), closed all applications, etc, but no luck...
Its a 2.2ghz MacBook pro, 2GB. Thank you in advance
NealThe important thing for the future imho, is to always Repair Permissions before & after any update... seems to ward off most of these problems. Of course that is only good if the disk is Verified once in awhile.
Using Disk Utility in Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later to verify or repair disks...

In fact I'd start with those 2 now, if that doesn't help you may need to reapply some updates by getting them directly from apple>downloads. -
Macbook Pro won't sleep after installing Lion
Hi,
I have just installed Mac OSX Lion last night. Everything worked out fine until I realized that everytime I close the Lid or Press Sleep from the Apple menu, it will not actually Sleep. After I open up the lid, I actually have to press the brightness of the light for the light to comes up. Or else its just going to be blank/black. During I close the lid, I could actually see that the light isn't actually breathing and I wonder how do I fix this? I have tried resetting the PRAM though.I have the same issue with my MacBook. I have it in a docking station hooked to an external monitor and after upgrading to Lion it will not go to sleep. I can click the sleep button from the Apple menue, from the start menue where the password is entered, or even set up sleep hot corners and nothing works. The only thing that worked for me was to take my computer out of the dock then restart. Once I restarted I was able to put the computer to sleep, but only as long as it was no longer connected to the dock. As soon as Lion recognizes there is an external monitor connected to my MacBook it prevents the sleep function. I understand why they did this, because some people had issues with their computers going to sleep while plugged into an external monitor, but I'm not sure their solution is any better because they have now created several unnecessary steps for many people who use external monitors. I hope Apple addresses this issue and comes up with a patch of some sort to give users the option to have it set up one way or another. I'm also pretty ****** that they got rid of Front Row.

Macbook Pro freezes when sleeping after Lion install
Anyone else experiencing this? I have the early 2010 Macbook Pro 15".
Has always ran flawlessly. Installed Lion last week and over all Lion is running great on it.
However occasionally when I close the lid and open it later my MPB doesn't wake up. Screen is black. Keyboad lights up.
I tap my keyboard, the track pad. Press the power button quickly. Nothing. I have to do a forced restart.
Initially it was doing it may once a day (maybe once every 9 or 10 times I put it to sleep).
Then it started doing it more frequently.
Yesterday it froze and I did a forced quit and a lot of my prefrence/system files got trashed apparently. Many of my apps stopped working or didn't recognize thier passwords and such or reported missing critical files. I tried various apps to repair the HD/files but it was obvious too much damange had been done. fortunately I had a Time Machine back up 12 hours old so I just did a complete restore (worked great btw).
Everything's working great again except the sleep issue is still there.
I've reset the SMC/PRAM. Still get the sleep/freezes.
I'm concerned more forced restarts is going to trash my system folder again.
Any ideas on what to do next?So should I just purchase new RAM and install it?

MacBook Pro 3,1 (Mid/Late 2007) running Mountain Lion audio issue?
Hello Everyone,
A few months ago, I installed the ML (Golden Master) over my copy of Lion. Lion was running great prior to install. After the upgrade, everything ran perfect, but I was having issues with both Ableton Live, Logic, iTunes and audio/video being played in Safari. The audio would stutter and even 'bit degrade' to a point nothing could be heard anymore. It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen. When running Ableton or Logic, songs would play fine, but randomly, my CPU would start spiking to ridiculously high amounts and audio would cut in and out. I had never had this issue previous to me installing ML. I upgraded multiple times as new updates for ML came out, eventually ending with 10.8.3. None of the updates fixed the issue. I was just curious if anyone else was having this issue with the same MacBook Pro model? Any insight would be great!
Jeff
MacBook Pro 3,1 (Mid/Late 2007)
2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM
500 GB HDI guess I'm confused. I had the ML Golden Master. Isn't that the same as the intial release version? Previous to installing that, I was running Lion. What do you mean by 'erase the boot volume'?

What am I doing wrong?
I have the following setup,
Macbook Pro 8,2
Mountain Lion 10.8.2
Apple TV2 4.3 (Airplay on)
Airport Extreme 7.6
Airport Express 7.6.2 (extended network)
which according to all the specs should work fine. All the following work fine,
Macbook pro itunes to the apple tv
Macbook pro itunes to the airport extreme
iphone 4s to the apple tv
iphone 4s to the airport extreme
But the airplay icon in Mountain Lion is missing, in Settings -> Display it says 'Airplay Mirroring: No Devices Detected'
I even tried turning off IPv6 for ethernet, but still nothing.
What am I missing? What am I doing wrong? The icon you are after relates to airplay mirroring.
This is supported for Apple TV with software version 5 or later. 4.3 which you have supports airplay but not airplay mirroring.
update your Apple TV to software v.5

Macbook pro won't drag and drop using mountain lion
Since installing mountain lion. I have been unable to drag and drop.selected items just stay stuck to the cursor and when positioned where they need to go the item will not drop. the only way to correct this seems to be by pressing escape command and the trackpad which then returns the item to its original position. this has only happened since I installed mountain lion OS X it is getting very annoying. My model is a mid 2009 15 inch laptop MacBook Pro which has 8 GB of RAM, I have noticed that other people seem to have the same problem but have been using an installed item called LapLink display I do not this have,so this is not causing the problem. any help to resolve thiswould be much appreciated.
I now seem to have solved the problem after reading various solutions. The one that works for me is to to put the laptop to sleep and on reawaking the machine works as it should.

TS4088 Macbook Pro 13" (mid 2010) reboot loop during Mountain Lion install
Hi all.
I have a very frustraiting issue with my mid 2010 MBP 13" (7.1) that started a mounth ago:
Before all my troubble began it was fully updated with the latest Mountain Lion, Firmware and SMC.
During an iPad sync my MBP went into hybernation because of low power (yeah, I know. I should have noticed that)
When I got it back on power it failed to snap out of hybernation. When I held down the power button for a few seconds it did start to boot.
When it came back to the desktop it rebooted only after 10 seconds or so. I let it reboot like this about 5 times until I started to hunt down a way to resolve this on the support forums. Based on the forums I have tried the following:
Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Refit RAM blocks
Disconnect it from power, remove battery and press and hold power button for 10 + seconds
Go to Disc Util, verify/repair disc http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417
Go to Disc Util, verify/repair permission http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417
Run Apple Hardware Test http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509 This test returned no errors in both standard and extensive mode.
None of this solved my problem. It possibly only made it worse. It reboots during boot or just after desktop appears.
A suggestion from a forum was to replace the HDD with a new one. I then bought a WD SSHD 1TB thinking that i might as well upgrade while troubbleshooting.
I switched the HDD and booted. Since the MBP came with the Snow Leopard (10.6.3) DVD I installed with this.
The install went perfect so I thought to myself that I made it. I then went on to upgrading to Mountain Lion through App store.
During the ML install the computer rebooted.... and rebooted.... and rebooted... and........ (imagine my frustration level here).
I tried all of the above but to no avail.
Thinking that Snow Leopard seemed to work I found an old 128 GB HDD and installed that with Snow Leopard. I made a full system update including iLife components.
Now, That works fine except for an extremely slow boot. It takes a coupple of minutes to enter desktop and keystrokes/mouseclicks are cashed for about 5 minutes.
I then took it to a professional Mac repair shop and let him have a go at it (with the original HDD). He worked on it a whole day and tried to switch just about everything (Logic-board, Top case, all cables, HDD, Superdrive, DC-In, Fan) but again with no resolution. He concluded that there is no apparent hardware errors.
When I got it back the fan ran at 100% and I could see (with the Snow Leopard disc) that SMC version was 0.000 ???
An extensive search lead me to this: http://chimac.net/2010/04/27/how-to-flash-the-firmware-3rd-party-hack/
I followed the guide and the SMC was back to 1.6
I re-inserted the SSHD and went into Disc Util to erase the disk to start all over. I erased the main partition but coudn't erase the restoration partition.
Now the disc is installing through the restoration web installer (Reinstall OS X) but it keeps rebooting after about 2.5-3 minutes after the chime. Sometimes I don't even get to type in my Apple-ID before it reboots, and it is so far only downloading the installer!!!
Here is what i don't understand:
Why does the MBP keep on rebooting even when the OS is not yet installed?
Why is there a sluggish keyboard/mouse response the first 8-10 minutes?
If there is no hardware error why does Single User Mode give me bluetoothusbhubport error?
If there is a faulty Bluetooth, how can that result in constant reboot even when the OS is not yet installed?
I suspect that the root cause is with the iPad being connected/syncing while it went into hybernation but the right solution keeps eluding me.
I appologize for the long entry but this is REALLY testing my paitence. I hope some of you great people can point me in the right direction. Here is the report when I startup using the Snow Leopard disc:

MacBook Pro keeps crashing ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion
My MacBook Pro keeps crashing randomly ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Another user suggested that it was bug with the graphic card and suggested that I use gfxCardStatus to control it. However it is only a temporary fix and my computer still crashes. Can anyone tell me what the permanant fix for this problem?? Here is my latest crash report:
