Macbook Pro Freezes Right After Startup.

As soon as I start up my mbp, it askes me to login and then shows me my desktop, but it gives me the color wheel and then it freezes up. Any thoughts? This is really annoying me, I have tried to hard reboot it many times, but to no avail and i have reset the pram, but none of this works. any suggestions?

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.

  • My computer freezes right after startup

My MacBook Pro 13 inch is always freezing right after logging in. And it has the spinning ball and just freezes there and I can not do anything but to wait but nothing happens. I am writing this on a iPad because my Mac is not working. I really need help! MacBook Pro 13 inch OSX 10.8.4.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Freezing right after startup

    Hi,
Recently, my macbook pro has been freezing on me right after start up. It boots fine and then right after loading my desktop, it freezes. The mouse curser is always at the apple icon on the top left corner. Is there anyway to fix this problem other than just turning it off and on? Sometimes it freezes even after multiple tries of pushing the power button off/on manually.
I'm running Leopard, OS X version 10.5.5. If anybody can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Try to boot from your OS installer disk and Repair Disk from Disk Utilities. Have you installed anything recently? Have you tried booting while holding down the shift key?

  • Macbook Pro freezes up after I open lid

I just bought my Macbook Pro about a month ago, and recently whenever I open up the lid the computer freezes up. The computer doesn't respond to any actions besides restarting the computer. The screen isn't black,it's my regular display, but I don't know how to fix this problem.

It's said that only Intel drives are immune to this system snafu. Only can only wait until a system update remedies this problem. (FMI: is yours a SSD drive?)
I don't own your version of this MBP, but have you tried leaving your MBP asleep when not in use, and seeing if that is a temporary workaround? I always keep my unit asleep when not in use, to cut down on boot time. It would be great if you could post your results to this semi-fix, since I'm sure many others are going through the same thing as you.

  • Dual 2.5 GHz G5 keeps freezing right after startup

I'm having a huge problem with my G5. Last night I put it to sleep and accidentally turned off a peripheral right after which immediately woke the computer from sleep. I waited a minute then put it back to sleep. When I woke the computer this morning it was behaving strangely with certain applications not opening so I opted to restart the computer. This was two hours ago. At first the computer wouldn't even boot up. I was getting a steady gray with the apple logo, then a steady blue screen. I zapped the PRAM and also reset the SMU. Right now it will boot up but immediately freezes within two minutes of loading the desktop.
I'm kind of freaking out because I'm working on some very important projects. I'm really not good with troubleshooting beyond what I already did. Any fast help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

Well, you can bet that shif doesn't trigger the bleep-filter.
BTW, I can actually recall writing a bleep filter in an application about 30 years ago or so. At least no Hollerith cards on that one, but it was close.

  • Macbook Pro freezes often after the hard drive replaced

Hi I just had the hard drive of my 17" mbp replaced at the Apple Store. The reason I brought my mbp in was because the Disk Utility couldn't fix my HD's problem (loud noise, extremely hot, slow..and disk utility couldn't run repair), and the genius bar person suggested I replace the hard drive.
However after I had my compter back, even though it is not as hot as before and the Disk Utility showed everything is normal now, the really loud fan (possibly fan I guess) noise still sounds very crazy. I was just doing some web surfing, light work stuff, but the HD area just roared. Also my computer freezes so often now, and apprears busy (showing the rainbow color spinning ball) quite frequently even when I am just using Safari and Mail. This is quite annoying and makes me worried more.
Do you guys have any suggestions? I could bring it back to the store again but it was really a trouble. Any ideas will be highly appreciated. Thanks!!

Thank you both. Before I take it back, I would like to confirm one last thing: how often should the mbp make loud fan noise? Or actually we should never hear the fan noise? I really don't remember when I just got this computer (June 2006) I used to hear fan running like this. But I do know if the CPU was too busy while I were using Adobe programs or play WOW or somehing on my old computer, the fan of my old computer (PC) was pretty loud. I am just wondering if the situation I am experiencing is normal or not before I send it back. Thanks!

  • Installed ok but now my iMac freezes right after startup

Leopard installed (updated from 10.4) ok, I had to restart once during it but it went ok. Once it was installed it froze once, so I rebooted and it seemed to be fine. I ran the software updates and since then when I start it up it gives me the black tinted screen that says I need to restart so hold down my power button.
I looked in the support section and tried to do the first solution listed under 'blue screen' (I assume that's the same as tinted black overlay screen) which was to boot it as a HD onto my laptop and erase a certain file but I didn't have that file. From this posting:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306857
To make matters worse it seems as though my external HD has broken. I'm scared to try option B in the thread above without backing up my files. Has this happen to anyone else out there? I'm a graphic designer and I'm going crazy without my main workstation. I feel like a race car driver without a car.
Any help, any, would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
The screen that tells you to restart in multiple languages, is that what you're referring to? That suggests a kernel panic, see if anything at http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html is helpful.

  • Mac Pro freeze/restart after startup

    Hi Jacob,
My Mac is having the exact problem.  Have you found a solution? I need help resolving this as well. It's also hard for me to get it to an Apple Store. I had a certified Apple repair come pick it up, and they charged about $700 to put in another hard drive and clean and test it. They said nothing was wrong, but the problem still persists.
Any advice you have would be appreciated.

  • My MacBook pro freezes during start up after 30 secs. Any ideas?

My MacBook pro freezes during startup while the logo is still showing and the moving circle stops after about 30 seconds. Any ideas please?

On my Mac that DSMOS message appears about 20 seconds into the boot process.  Booting finishes about 30 seconds after that.
Do those letters "v" really appear on the screen?
Unfortunately, if those are the last messages on the screen, I see nothing there that explains the hang.  The next message I see after the DSMOS message is one about an AirPort daemon, although I'm not sure I understand any connection there might be between that and your hang.
Since you don't have a system restore disc you won't be able to do the next thing I was going to suggest, which is to run the diagnostics that came with that Mac.  If you have an OS X 10.6 installation disc, you could try reinstalling OS X over the top of what's on it now.  Right after that finishes use Software Update to apply any missing OS X updates, or download and install the "combo" updater for the version of OS X 10.6 that you want.  If that Mac has a software problem doing that might help.

  • My 13" MacBook Pro freezes at startup

While using Firefox, my Macbook pro frooze about 2 days ago. The screen was only showing the multi-colour spinning circle.
Pressed [Command + Option + Esc] to force quit. No response
Pressed Power Button for 10 sec.Power OFF
Again Pressed Power Button, the MacBook Pro freezes at startup, the MAC makes the startup music, enters a white Screen and is stuck there. There is a light clicking noise continously heard.
    Followed instructions to RESET SMC.
    1. Power OFF.
    2. Press [Shift + CNT + OPT + Power Key] and release at same time.
    3. Power ON.
    There was no response.
Attempted multiple times to switch-ON and OFF MAC-Book. No response
Attempted RESET SMC multiple times. No response.
Then suddenly when I gave up, it unfreeze after 15 minutes and enters the login screen.
Did a normal shut-down and power up. It was OK.
Then, ran the Firefox in debug mode and disabled the plug-ins.
It was stable for a 2 hours.
Then again, got the spinning colour circle.
So, took it to the service center last afternoon here at North Point, Hong Kong. The engineer there instructed me to backup the hard-disk and recover the CD.
Brough the machine back to my home.
Since the spinning colour circle would not stop, powered OFF the device.
On POWER ON, the screen freeze. Just like the first time.
Tried RESET SMC, Nor esult. Left the device power-on for an hour. No result.
Then, inserted the recovery CD. Powered OFF the Macbook Pro. Powered ON  and pressed "C" immediately. No response. The CD is now stuck inside the MACBook Pro.
Still have the white Screen at Power-On.

  • I have pluged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.
    Help.

    BB1B2,
The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.
    Sorry,
    Clinton

Yep all good things happened to me...i don't know if all these problems are linked, ahh and also my trackpad is behaving very erraticaly sometimes, it's like it is possessed by a ghost. My computer is not under warranty anymore so i'd like to avoid a trip to the Apple store but i'm close to doing just that.
    Any help appreciated...

It's diagnostic software. It's supposed to help you find problems. I don't think anyone is making any software yet that fixes hardware problems.
    That said, the two comments:

would lead me to think it's the logic board. On older MacBook Pro's both the USB I/O ports and the keyboard/trackpad are fed out of an integrated USB controller integrated into the South Bridge I/O controller. On newer models, the USB ports come out of an integrated North/South bridge controller and the keyboard/trackpad are handled by an SMC controller, which itself interfaces with the I/O controller. All of these items are on the logic board, and they're all unrepairable.
...unless of course the "internal drive [that] is installed in a cheap external case" is itself causing the problems. Another thing to try might be a different USB port, if you haven't done so already.
I didn't know the price for Scannerz went up. I could have sworn I only paid 30-some bucks for it. Maybe it was on sale at the time. I don't remember.
    In any case, good luck.

  • Brand new Macbook Pro freezes after iTunes-update??

Updated itunes to 10.5.1 last night and now itunes and my brand new Macbook Pro freezes whenever I open iTunes. I got it last week and it has worked perfectly, but now it freezes and has trouble finding the wifi. What to do?? Can I somehow undo the update?

Is this Java based game Runescape? I experience the same crashes, ive tried using other things in-game other than the OpenGl and i still experience crashes, much more often when i have iTunes running while trying to play. Ive never had problems like this before, even while using older computers with much less memory, etc.. This is my first mac and id have to say it's not leaving a good impression. I planned to be able to play some games on this and consider Runescape requires very low CPU this is kind of sad that a Mac can't process it without crashing. Ive been reading lots of similar posts online and it sounds like Apple should be worried more about customer satisfaction than their own stocks. Hope something works out soon!!
