MacBook Pro Freezes while rendering menu's

I Got a new MacBook Pro 2.2Ghz (Nov 2), with plenty of hard drive space left (80G), decided to create an iMovie which was great no problems here, then decided wanted to burn to DVD. Created a DVD using the Wedding 07 theme and then went to try and create the disc image.
The Mac freezes after about a 1/3rd of the way through while trying to render the menus, causing me to do a hard reboot. I read several topics in here, trying to fix it:
Deleting the com.apple.plist file
resetting the permissions,
using an older theme (got further but still froze after about 2/3rdss of rendering menu's).
Setting the chapter buttons to still's rather than moving images
All to no avail still cant get it to work.
I created another short iMovie, with no chapters, just one menu, put some pics in, music etc and that worked. This leaves me to believe the problem lies in having the chapters in the DVD.
I know quite a few of you have experienced this, has anyone found a way of getting around it or is it we have to wait until an update is released from Apple?

I've been having the same problem with my macbook pro since november. I've been watching these forums to see if anyone has figured out the problem but I can wait any longer so I called apple. I've spent at least 8 hours on 5 different phone calls with 5 different people over the last two weeks. My computer still is not fixed. And from the sounds of the people I've talked to, they have no idea that there is even a problem with some of the macbook pros. I have done everything that they can think of including completely erasing and reinstalling my operating system and testing idvd with a file sent to me from apple. I was able to narrow down my problem to having videos in the drop zones of submenus. I can burn a dvd with as many submenus as I want as long as there are pictures in the drop zones. It burns fine with a picture in the drop zone. I can even burn a dvd with video in one menu drop zone and pictures in the rest. It doesn't matter which menu the video is in, as long as there is only one menu drop zone with video the dvd will burn. Is anyone else getting the same result?

  • 17 Macbook Pro, freezing while rendering video in FCP

Hi I have a late 2008 Model MacBook Pro 17.  My Macbook keeps freezing during rendering in Final Cut Pro 7.  Its been doing this for 3 weeks or so.  I originally thought a SSD was the way to go, but I think I may really need a new processor.  Im a little confused on what I should buy and what fits my MacBook Pro. What I want is to fix the rendering freezing and shorten the rendering time.  I'd appreciate any advice or ideas.  Is my Macbook compatible to a Intel i7 or i5?  Buying a new Macbook Pro is not an option at this point.  Thank you in advance.
Here are the specs on my laptop:
    MacBookPro4,1
2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8 GB RAM
    500gb HDD Momentus 7200 SATA 3Gb/s
    GeForce 8600M GT

    Hi instantclassic99,
I do have this article of key combinations on startup:
Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1533
I would try this with a wired Apple keyboard if possible.  Specifically, I'd try:
    Press Option during startup
Start up in Startup Manager, where you can select an OS X volume or network volume to start from.
    Cheers!

  • Macbook Pro freezing while audio/mouse keeps going

I'm on a Retina Macbook Pro Early 2013 Yosemite 10.10 and I recently have been experiencing a lot of problems with the screen freezing. Can't access any applications during the freeze but the mouse still moves and the audio keeps going, it's just that nothing reacts. Once I force shut down and reboot, I keep getting "graphic errors". Does anyone know of a fix? Some of the times I'm not even running intensive applications, just chrome and perhaps itunes.
    Thanks!

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • MacBook Pro Freezes while using more than two applications at the same time

Over the last two weeks my MBP has been freezing every time i use two or more applications at the same time. For e.g. my whole system freezes from time to time when i use itunes and safari at the same time. This problem never existed before and has just started recently and is really annoying. What can i do to fix it?

Rather than re-installing Safari have you tried simply "Resetting" it (head to "Reset safari" under the "Safari" menu). It is possible that something in your user folder that supports Safari is really the cause of the problem. Re-installing Safari won't deal with this, but re-setting it can.
In fact the first thing you should try is simply choosing "Empty cache..". If your cache files are corrupted then this in itself could explain the behaviour.
If you choose to do the Reset first try it with just "Empty cache" and "remove all website icons" selected. This will reduce the amount that you will "lose" in the process. (Cookies, history, etc). Add in additional options if the first attempt doesn't fix it.
    Cheers

  • I tried to update the software of my iphone 3gs while charging with my Macbook Pro. While the phone was restarting after installation, in the setting up my phone menu, it stops midway with a message in itunes on the laptop that there is no simcard.

I tried to update the software of my iphone 3gs while charging with my Macbook Pro. While the phone was restarting after installation, in the setting up my phone menu, it stops midway with a message in itunes on the laptop that there is no simcard.

Then put a SIM in. You cannot activate an iPhone without a compatible Sim.
If your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken the update restore the lock.

  • MacBook Pro freezes or shut down automatically in sleep mode

    Hi there,
since awhile I'm troubled with a strange problem: Every now and then my MacBook Pro freezes randomly.
The only way to recover is to use the power button. There is no causality with programs I used or with
external devices. I don't use SOPHOS by the way.
The second strange thing is that my MacBookPro also automatically shuts down (after a while) when I use the screensaver
or the sleep mode. Any Idea?
    Kind Regards,

Try a Safe Mode boot ...
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
A Safe Mode boot deletes some system caches that may help.

  • Brand new Macbook Pro freezes after iTunes-update??

Updated itunes to 10.5.1 last night and now itunes and my brand new Macbook Pro freezes whenever I open iTunes. I got it last week and it has worked perfectly, but now it freezes and has trouble finding the wifi. What to do?? Can I somehow undo the update?

Is this Java based game Runescape? I experience the same crashes, ive tried using other things in-game other than the OpenGl and i still experience crashes, much more often when i have iTunes running while trying to play. Ive never had problems like this before, even while using older computers with much less memory, etc.. This is my first mac and id have to say it's not leaving a good impression. I planned to be able to play some games on this and consider Runescape requires very low CPU this is kind of sad that a Mac can't process it without crashing. Ive been reading lots of similar posts online and it sounds like Apple should be worried more about customer satisfaction than their own stocks. Hope something works out soon!!

My MacBook Pro freezes when attempting to access System Preferences. I am able to Force Quit but that's it. No clue what's wrong. Screen went black for about 30 seconds earlier tonight. Never had a problem before a previous update. Any ideas?

Use your Finders > Go To Folder and type
    /Library/Preferences
    and hit GO
A window appears, now scroll down until you find
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
there may be two of them, one is a locked file and cannot be touched, the other drag it to the desktop, reboot and open System Preferences and reset your preferences.
If all is well, delete the desktop file.
If that doesn't work, perform a Reinstall Just OS X
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3046
If that doesn't work, then your going to need to log into another Admin account and remove the files of the other off the machine, delete the old user, reboot, recreate the old user account and return the files.
If you don't have another Admin on the machine, then your going to have to create one at the Single User Mode command line (hold command s while booting with a built in or wired keyboard)
Enter each comand exactly and press return after each.
    mount -uw /
    rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
    reboot
    use a different name obviously.

  • MacBook Pro Freezes, Shuts Down, Three Beeps

Hello, i have been having continuing issues with my MacBook Pro Freezing and not starting up. Sometimes after a slight move or bump it will freeze and not recover, sometimes with three beeps, sometimes not, and sometimes it just immediatly shuts off. It will also do this when it is not bumped, but not as often. I know that the three beeps indicates a memory error, but i have gone through and reseated the RAM and done 10 instances of Memtest while in the command prompt of single-user mode, and it has not indicated any failures. I have also booted into the diagnostics mode on the MacBook and tested the memory and the logig board twice. Still no failures seen. Finally i have verifyed the disk with Disk Utility and found no faults (However one time of my many tries it said that there was a fatal error that must be reparied from the Recovery HD so i booted into recovery and hit repair disk and it said there was nothing wrong, and all of my further attempts have been from the Recovery Partition).
I am just not convinced that my ram or my logic board is at fault here, and i am definatly not ready to put out the money for them if it will not solve my problem.
All help is appricieated. Thank You!

No this is the stock 4GB that shipped with the computer. And the only problem with that technique is that this problem will disappear for almost two weeks and suddenly every time I try to start it it will beep or freeze or if I bump it it will shut off or freeze. And after it acts up for a day or two I could do whatever I want to it and it will show no symptoms.

  • My MacBook pro freezes during start up after 30 secs. Any ideas?

My MacBook pro freezes during startup while the logo is still showing and the moving circle stops after about 30 seconds. Any ideas please?

On my Mac that DSMOS message appears about 20 seconds into the boot process.  Booting finishes about 30 seconds after that.
Do those letters "v" really appear on the screen?
Unfortunately, if those are the last messages on the screen, I see nothing there that explains the hang.  The next message I see after the DSMOS message is one about an AirPort daemon, although I'm not sure I understand any connection there might be between that and your hang.
Since you don't have a system restore disc you won't be able to do the next thing I was going to suggest, which is to run the diagnostics that came with that Mac.  If you have an OS X 10.6 installation disc, you could try reinstalling OS X over the top of what's on it now.  Right after that finishes use Software Update to apply any missing OS X updates, or download and install the "combo" updater for the version of OS X 10.6 that you want.  If that Mac has a software problem doing that might help.

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.
This diagnostic procedure will query the system log for messages that may indicate a hardware fault. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

  • My 13" MacBook Pro freezes at startup

While using Firefox, my Macbook pro frooze about 2 days ago. The screen was only showing the multi-colour spinning circle.
Pressed [Command + Option + Esc] to force quit. No response
Pressed Power Button for 10 sec.Power OFF
Again Pressed Power Button, the MacBook Pro freezes at startup, the MAC makes the startup music, enters a white Screen and is stuck there. There is a light clicking noise continously heard.
    Followed instructions to RESET SMC.
    1. Power OFF.
    2. Press [Shift + CNT + OPT + Power Key] and release at same time.
    3. Power ON.
    There was no response.
Attempted multiple times to switch-ON and OFF MAC-Book. No response
Attempted RESET SMC multiple times. No response.
Then suddenly when I gave up, it unfreeze after 15 minutes and enters the login screen.
Did a normal shut-down and power up. It was OK.
Then, ran the Firefox in debug mode and disabled the plug-ins.
It was stable for a 2 hours.
Then again, got the spinning colour circle.
So, took it to the service center last afternoon here at North Point, Hong Kong. The engineer there instructed me to backup the hard-disk and recover the CD.
Brough the machine back to my home.
Since the spinning colour circle would not stop, powered OFF the device.
On POWER ON, the screen freeze. Just like the first time.
Tried RESET SMC, Nor esult. Left the device power-on for an hour. No result.
Then, inserted the recovery CD. Powered OFF the Macbook Pro. Powered ON  and pressed "C" immediately. No response. The CD is now stuck inside the MACBook Pro.
Still have the white Screen at Power-On.
