MacBook Pro - Glossy Screen or Not

I've just recently started to use a digital camera and Aperture. I'm selling my old Powerbook and will be getting a MacBook Pro. Any thoughts on whether I should opt for the glossy screen on the new laptop? What are the pros and cons of the glossy versus the anti-glare 'matte' screen.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Paul

Hi,
I just bought my MacBook Pro over a month ago, with the Glossy Screen. I had an Acer Laptop with a matte Screen before that and was always verry disapointed about the poor picture quality. I use my MacBook mainly indoors and I'm really very happy with the Glossy Screen. The pictures look so much better!
Best regards,
Gerald

  • I have a MacBook Pro 15" and my warranty just ran out! I partitioned my harddrive into two partitions, one with Snow Leopard and the other with microsoft. This morning I turned on my Macbook Pro and it will not boot into Snow Leopard.

    Good Morning,
I have a MacBook Pro 15" and my warranty just ran out! I partitioned my harddrive into two partitions, one with Snow Leopard and the other with microsoft. This morning I turned on my Macbook Pro and it will not boot into Snow Leopard. I shut it off took out the battery, reinstalled the battery. Then I put in the Snow Leopard CD and booted up to disk utility and The Snow Leopard partion would not show up?? I do see the microsoft partion.
I also rebooted holding down the shift key and still no Snow Leopard
Could you please tell me what I can do, what keys do I press on restart any advice to get Snow leopard back.
    thank you.

Have you restarted holding down the Opt key?  That procedure should give you a gray screen with all of the partitions that exist.  Then select the SL partition for boot.  Also go to System Preferences and Startup Disk, unlock the lock and select the SL partition as the default boot partition, then relock.

  • MacBook Pro Blank Screen (Built - in & External) - continued

This thread is a continuation of [MacBook Pro Blank Screen (Built - in & External)|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1478474]. The thread was getting too long and some browsers were timing out.
    Thank you,
    Apple Discussions Staff

I brought mine into the Apple Store last night. I had not left it for service last time as I had not cleared it of some confidential client data. This time, I encountered a much more knowledgeable Genius who seemed to have heard of the Nvidia problem.
So, my MBPro is on its way to the depot. It will apparently be $310 total, flat fee, supposedly ready within a week.
I do expect Apple will do the right thing eventually and extend warranties for the defective Nvidia subsystem. However, I can't wait until they do. I need my Macbook Pro to be functional.
    Again, my strong advice...
*At the first hint you are getting this problem, turn on screen sharing.*
If you have this specific Nvidia problem, you will still be able to access the machine remotely, which can be incredibly valuable in terms of saving data before you send it for repair. When you hand it over, you will initial a statement saying you have backed up your data and Apple is not responsible if the machine is wiped during repairs. Set up screen sharing so you can operate the machine during the Nvidia failure.

  • MacBook Pro late 2013 does not show login window after waking from sleep

MacBook Pro late 2013 does not always prompt for login, but opens directly to desktop, even though security settings are setup to prompt for password after 5 minutes. Up to now, this only has happened on battery, machine goes to sleep or lid is closed, 10 minutes pass, lid is opened and desktop is shown instead of lock screen. Console shows, that the machine was actually sleeping (10 min no log entries) and also does not show any error in regards to login window.
This behaviour occurs randomly and I could not track down any root cause/behaviour, yet. Sometimes everything behaves as it should.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Count me in, I have the same issue, and from what I read here, it looks like a Yosemite/SSD related issue ?
I'm not 100% sure if it started when I put a SSD in my old iMac 2009 (as a fusion drive) or if that's after that when I upgraded to Yosemite...
I did disable auto poweroff like suggested in another thread : Mac freeze during the night sleep.
    sudo pmset -a autopoweroff 0
    We'll see if it helps.
It happens toughly a couple of times a week.

Doesn't sound like it.  It sounds like you're being logged-off.
Does your Mac go through the complete Restart cycle -- black screen, gray and/or blue screen momentarily, startup chime, etc?
If you're not sure, do a Restart just to watch the process; the next time the problem occurs, see if it's the same.
You need to know which it is, as these will have very different causes, and different places to look for a solution.

Generally any Mac made since 2009 can handle FCP X.
Your small screen is not ideal unless you are young and have good vision.
However, you needn't ask whether or not your computer is suitable as you can find out yourself by downloading the free 30 day trial.

  • MacBook Pro Red Screen?

So I have recently been converted from Windows to OS X when around 6 months ago I bought a second hand MacBook Pro 13"
I have not been having any problems at all until today while I was just surfing Facebook and checking my emails I got a thick red screen that covered the whole screen, I have researched and cannot find anything about a full red screen although some people seem to have problems with red lines, that is not the problem in this case.
It was similar to when you get a Blue Screen on the Windows computers, although it was thick dark red. I could not do anything and pressing the play and pause buttons also did not do anything as it would usually open iTunes and start playing but would not during the red screen.
It might not be anything as I have been told from a friend that I should not worry because Apple OS X is a lot more reliable than Windows but still, I do not want this to happen again.
I have removed the SuperDrive that was built in and replaced it with a HDD caddy that can be purchased on eBay but I have had that in for a while now without any problems, also I upgraded from 4GB to 6GB RAM which again has also been in a while before all this happened. My processor is Intel 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo (2010 model) so I do not think it could be performance issues or that I am doing too much at once because I have had windows laptops that have done more than this before lol.
Other things you might need to know is I'm on the latest OS X which I believe is 10.9.4 and I use an external SuperDrive which was purchased from Apple in order to use discs so don't think that could be the problem and again like I say I have had the Caddy in for around 3 months and the sounds only happen every so often, not today, but the red screen is a one off and have never encountered that before.
If anyone could help me that would be great, its more about me worrying as I approach my new term at university and wanting to last at least the whole year with my MBP lol.

Take it in for diagnosis. The coke definitely screwed something up.
    Barry
P.S. There is no way to remotely diagnose hardware problems.

  • When i open my macbook pro- the screen lights up and then goes black-

When I open my Macbook pro- the screen lights up and then goes black- keybook stays backlite- can not get screen to come back on. Must reboot-
thoughts-?? Macbook is 6 months old and on second hard drive ( failure after 45 days).

Hey! exact same thing happens to me... I use the keyboard shortcut to turn off the screen which is ctrl - shift - eject button. Then just poke a key and it wakes up again fine, it doesn't fix the problem but at elast you don't have to reboot. x

  • MacBook Pro's screen pixelated

Hi there, my mom's late 2006 MacBook Pro's screen has turned all pixelated. Not sure if there's a way to fix this or if I should just take it in to the Genius Bar. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The 2006 MBP has an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card which did not have the problems that the June 2007 and later model MBPs with the Nvidia 8600M GT had. You could try running an Apple Hardware test to maybe pinpoint the problem.

My 13" Macbook Pro's screen resolution is off. I restarted it yesterday and it has been bad since. For best quality I am having to put it on 1024 x 768 (not stretched) which the highest, but still not as good as original and not full screen. HELP PLEASE!

After about three restarts a new higher reolution option appeared (odd) and it is now fixed.

And what is that picture supposed to mean?
Had you disassembled a unibody Mac, even if not 17", it would be apparent that the screws within the red circles and the one in the middle correspond to those that fasten the display to the chassis on the right side, the gold connector on the left belonging to the Bluetooth antenna and the black cable assembly on top is the camera cable. Here's the left side, just for completeness sake, with the hand holding the display data connector (these are looking at the Mac butt-side up):

After all, was the topic of the thread not "are macbook pro 17" screens interchangeable"? But I will grant you that the DVD drive does live just South of the display and its label is visible on the first picture.
